The 2022/23 UEFA Champions League (UCL) begins on Tuesday – and so does the competition’s official Fantasy game.

We’ve already had plenty of coverage on UCL Fantasy in preparation for the big kick-off, with more to come this afternoon, as well as articles throughout the season.

If you’re new to the game or just need a reminder of the rules, check out our ‘how to play’ guide below and don’t forget to join the official FFScout UCL League (Pin code: 75L4Q5EA10).

Our series of preview articles continues by looking at the best UCL forwards on offer.

In true UEFA fashion, the tournament logically starts with Groups E to H playing on Tuesday night, so that’s where we’ll start with these picks.

Scout Picks Gameweek 7 early selection: Brighton double-up and Haaland

FORWARDS

Groups E-H

Karim Benzema (€11m) – Real Madrid

Last year’s top UCL goal scorer, Benzema is amongst the favourites to lead the charts once again. Real Madrid are top of La Liga and play their first game against bottom seeds Celtic. You may think an away fixture in Glasgow is not ideal for the talisman but, if games against RB Leipzig and Shakhtar Donetsk don’t have you licking your lips, then nothing will.

Erling Haaland (€11m) – Manchester City

If the panic surrounding Haaland’s expected minutes wasn’t floating around the Fantasy zeitgeist right now, this guy would probably be the most highly-owned option in the game.

Not only is he playing for one of the competition favourites but he has an affinity for the competition, scoring a hat-trick on his debut for RB Salzburg to start an incredible run of 23 games in 19 games.

He also recently became the first player to score nine Premier League goals in August and the fastest to ten goals. Man City’s first fixture is away to a team who have lost their two best defenders this summer and have since been leaking goals.

Neymar (€10m) – PSG

You could have any of the PSG front line but at €10m Neymar offers the best value for money and is in slightly better Ligue 1 form.

This is not a typo but Neymar has nine goals and six assists from just 545 minutes this season. That’s an attacking return every 36.33 minutes. More than two per game.

The only stumbling block is facing Juventus in the first fixture but they’ve not yet settled on a consistent back four and have often relied on full-backs playing centrally.

Goncalo Ramos (€9m) – Benfica

The doubling in price from last year says it all regarding this young man’s ability in front of goal. He’s already proven that he can get a modest return at the knockout level of this competition, so a home fixture to Maccabi Haifa should be no sweat for the Portuguese wonderkid.

He’s continued his fine form from last season with four goals and two assists from four UCL qualifying matches.

FPL Gameweek 4 review: Kane scores twice but misses penalty

Groups A-D

Robert Lewandowski (€11m) – Barcelona

The King returns with a home fixture to Viktoria Plzen. It took a couple of games for him to find his feet at new club Barcelona but five goals in the three since have made him a strong captaincy candidate.

Playing on Wednesday, unlike the above premiums, he provides a comfort blanket for those that have Tuesday captaincy blanks.

Harry Kane (€11m) – Tottenham

Never doubt Harry Kane’s knack for consistently scoring goals; five already domestically, with a single assist too.

Tottenham’s on-field performances have been inconsistent but the English marksman’s class is ever-present. They have a home fixture up first and then play against leaky Frankfurt and Sporting defences. Ignore him at your peril.

Ferran Jutgla (€5.5m) – Club Brugge

No, we hadn’t heard of him either before researching potential prospects. Five goals and three assists in seven matches are worthy of our undivided attention, however.

Of course, there’ll be doubts over the Belgian league’s standards but every year there are stand-out performers from the lesser-watched leagues. At his price, you could match him with a premium midfielder to gain an edge on those going for a premium forward and budget midfielder.

    Thoughts on this lot?

Have exact money for Cancelo & Archer to Trippier and Mitrovic but have to pull the trigger early this week with the price rises which is not optimal.

Or just get Trippier in for Perisic or Cucurella ( which one) and roll the other FT?

I've gone Trossard for next two GW's then will see. Not confident in Rashford. Always looks good against good sides when we can hit them on the counter but he struggled against teams which defend deep and space is limited

the FPL General on the athletic pod cast said he thought he saw Rashford pull up a bit at the end of the game against Arsenal. May be worth waiting till after the europa league game to see whats what. but yes if you have a plan for the money it isnt a bad move at all, im a liverpool fan and i havent owned diaz yet mainly because i wasnt 100% convinced he would be FPL good.

Thanks for that.. Will hold fire for now until Rashford is confirmed fit.

I'm a Liverpool fan as well, was hoping Diaz would explode this season with Mane gone .. he's been slightly unlucky but generally our attack just hasn't clicked .. not worth an fpl triple up at the moment.

Shame, its quite a step down from Trippier. Alternatively (don't laugh), maybe Emerson Royal? Playing every game, and I know he has his flaws, but can still be quite an explosive FPL option

I find it incredible that referees put up with all the stick they get from managers, players, fans and particularly from pundits.

When you watch Match of the Day, VAR decisions which the pundits - from their cosy studios on their massive salaries - deem to have been correct are given lukewarm, reluctant praise, while mistakes are branded a "disgrace" and "pathetic".

I've watched football since 1990 and in that time hundreds of referees have come and gone but the criticism has remained. Does no one ever stop to think that football is just really hard to referee and its the system, not the ever changing cast of individual referees, which might be to blame?

I’m going to be honest, and I don’t want to come across as if I’m offending you, but to suggest referees are hard done by is wrong.

One of those most protected jobs on the planet. Consistently failing and there is zero meaningful punishment.

The salaries, the opportunities they are given for the job is insane, too.

The only time referees should be awarded sympathy is when they receive any sort of threat. That is totally unacceptable.

VAR is not ruining the game, the officials are. They are useless and to suggest otherwise is naive, at best.

Do you think that officals have always been "useless," though?

My point is that for 32 years I've been listening to the same criticism yet the referees have come and gone. Its not one guy every week at every game.

Who would do a better job and why aren't they applying to do the role?

        1. Athletic Nasherbo
          • 8 Years

Need better custodians of the game, writing better rules and applying them correctly.

The culture of referring organisations and institutions is one of deflecting responsibility.

I agree that rules and the overall organisation could be to blame - those are systemic issues, though, not the fault of individual referees.

It depends on your team and when you plan to WC. Gvardiol overall is a better choice on paper due to Ajax group being more difficult but Leipzig have the difficult fixture on GW2 so if you are wildcarding before GW3, Rensch could be a better option due to attacking threat.

You know you can have a captain for day 1 AND day 2 right? So if someone playing today is poo you can change them.

Same goes for subs. You can have a team of people playing today but if they do badly you can sub them for people playing tomorrow

Fixtures are decent, though. Goal/assist threat too.

I prefer to have a full playing bench to take full advantage of the substitution window (and take a couple punts in the first day's games)

Probably right, I just don’t have the time nor desire to properly research value players etc

      Thinking about something like

      Vlachodimos/Grbic
      Kounde/Mendes/Bassey/Cancelo/James
      Vinicius/Mario/Jorginho/Kwaracchelia/Florentino
      Lewa/Haaland/Mbappe

Diaz , Archer --> Trosshard, Mitrovic worth a -4 ? I have exact cash now. It means I can bench Peresic this gw and could save me a wildcard potentially

I don't play any fantasy game other than our regular one, but I admire people who can juggle more than one. Must take quite an effort to find out who the cheap enabler from Club Brugge is.

I gave up on FPL for all these extra fantasy games as that one took most time. 😀

You dont have to go that deep for cheap enablers. Ajax and Marsellie will do the job...

It's not that difficult because it is better not to get any players from the worst clubs anyway. You just need a full playing 15 and they usually misprice a few players so there are cheap enablers from top teams. Fixtures are much more important in CL than it is in PL due to higher team strength disparity.

This was back in July and we already saw it when Firmino came on vs Everton. All roads are leading to 4231 from Klopp with Darwin Nunez in the picture. Unfortunately the Nunez red card is what has hampered the change plus Robbo being out of form.

"They can all play different positions as well, of course, Curtis can play a line higher and Harvey and Fabio can play there too. Fine. We can play a different system as well, where we might only need two midfielders, but then all these guys can play as a No.10 in the new system. So where is the need for a midfielder? The day when somebody comes to me and tells me why exactly.
