LIVERPOOL’S ATTACK

There were few real positives to take from Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat to Arsenal in Gameweek 10. However, with Manchester City and Arsenal blanking in Gameweek 12, I’m not ruling out a short-term move for one of their attackers with captaincy in mind. That might sound crazy, but despite wider team issues, they have still scored five goals in their last two league fixtures against Arsenal and Brighton, two decent defences.

The decision on who to transfer in has been pretty straightforward in past seasons, yet Mohamed Salah’s (£12.7m) lack of form, paired with his premium price tag, raises question marks. I’m one of Mo’s biggest fans, but he does look less involved than ever at present, producing just one shot and one penalty box touch at the Emirates. With the game finally poised at 2-2, he was also substituted with 21 minutes to go.

His lack of form can be traced back to his return from the Africa Cup of Nations, but context is needed: Salah has still scored two goals and created four in eight league appearances this season. He is also on penalties, so if you do still own him, it might be best to hold a while longer, given that Gameweek 12 fixture at home to West Ham.

However, the most promising player I see at Liverpool right now is Darwin Nunez (£8.8m). Few players came away from the Emirates with credit, but he was one of those who stood out, making good runs in behind and firing three shots on goal. He has only started three Premier League games so far, but has two goals and is averaging a whopping 6.26 shots per 90 minutes. That average will probably come down the more minutes he plays, but it’s still sure to be among the highest across the Premier League.

“Good. It was good, it was good. Sharp, good, involved in nearly everything, scored a great goal” – Jurgen Klopp on Darwin Nunez’s display v Arsenal

Above: Darwin (right) has attempted 19 shots in 2022/23, just four behind Salah’s (left) total of 23, despite playing 431 fewer minutes.

Darwin is a club-record signing, and it is clear that Jurgen Klopp is banking on him to come good as his focal point in attack, which is why I’d put him slightly ahead of Diogo Jota (£8.9m) in FPL.

With Luis Diaz (£8.0m) out, Jota could again shift to the left, just as he did when the winger went off in the 41st minute on Sunday. Yet Klopp has already tried Fabio Carvalho (£5.4m) at left-wing, and with such a short turnaround between their Gameweek 11 and 12 fixtures (73 hours), it does feel a little risky.

Aye it’s unfortunate. Nearly all pundits and commentators are ex players now. It makes for easier headlines when pundits like Gary Neville say something ridiculous (which he basically does on a weekly basis) and therefore more £££. Skill and craft is not what’s desired in this field unfortunately, it’s attention.

I loved when he himself said when the pen was maybe a foul after saying how it should et have been a penalty/red for the previous few minutes - only for the co-commentator to remind him, well if it's a foul then it's therefore a denial of goalscoring opportunity, hence red and pen...

Jeez, wildcards can certainly come back and bite you right in the @rse can't they? In GW9 I brought in eight players including Fofana, James, Sinisterra & Mitrovic (who I transferred out for Martial a week later!) and ditched Martinelli (16 points since) & Jesus (13 points since) amongst others.

It's uncanny how sometimes just doing absolutely nothing can reap handsome dividends.

I wildcarded in GW9 and also did Martinelli to Sinisterra. If you had to invent one of those extreme crazy outcomes it would have been something like Martinelli getting 16 v Spurs and Liverpool while Sinisterra gets -2.

I also captained Salah that week. Those two 50/50 calls cost me 36 points.

Why Haaland remained on the bench. 'He finished the game v Saints so, so tired and didn’t recover well. Yesterday was not good, today a little better but not perfect so we decide not to take the risk,' said Pep. 'Phil (Foden) has problems. Bernardo told us he was so tired.' #MCFC

        b) Mazeroui
        c) Uribe
        d) Evanilson
        e) Pau Lopez

Surely one of the Bayern players (a) or (b), but I can't work out if Mazeroui gets benched.

Darwin seems a reasonable pick considering Liverpool are at least scoring goals. I guess the scoring odds for Liverpool at home to City will be favourable. Whether you back the pool attack when they are performing so very poorly as a team is quite another matter. I bought Auba this week on the back of some good finishing in his first 2 games under Potter and was rewarded with his back side firmly parked on Chelsea’s bench. He played again tonight so I’m not hopeful at all of him starting at the weekend.
Although Spurs are flattering to deceive of late Kane is returning whenever he plays so i would think very carefully before selling him for either of your options. I get your concern on Mitro as he’s a real worry but for now I think waiting to hear about this week at the very least is as advisable. Their will be a lot of panic post weekend though if he no shows as he’s very important for wk 12. My advice, re think and reconsider.

Hope your well Bankst 🙂 although Estupinan is a wing back planet fpl were suggesting he’s got competition for his place although can’t remember who James said was the threat.
Dunk and Webster have more attacking threat from what I can remember.

Newcastle and Palace have good fixtures until the WC so you have three defenders which you could play every week, nothing needed there.

You need to improve one if not two strikers. Wilson is only 7.2 just above Mitrovic. Jota could score a few.

It's tough. Not much to choose from. Dunk/Webster, Guehi or maybe Koulibaly/Cucurella. Chelsea don't really have an obvious choice with the rotation.

        Lots of issues piling up

        WC already played

        2 fts. 0.1itb

        Pope, Ward
        Cancelo, James*, Tippier, Dier, Digne*
        Bowen, Maddison, Martinelli, Gordon*, Andreas
        Haaland, Kane, Mitro*

Exact money for this -4. Need nailed players. Thinking Brighton look good.

James, Mitro, Gordon to Webster, Welbeck, Zaha

        Other thoughts?

Any of: Digne to a Palace defender, all four are 4.5 or James if out for 3 games. Mitrovic to Wilson,

Trossard and Zaha for Gordon and Periera, if you sell James, but it is a little bit sideways ish.

Gordon only out for one week (and Andreas has a great fixture) so maybe worth dealing with Digne instead?

Looking at Chelsea recently, is it possible that not only Brighton was a very good team, but Potter is also a very very good manager.
Team looking more and more assured under him, both attack and defence starting to gel together

Missed the game tonight but all I’ve heard is that Mount for example has suddenly found some form…..says a lot that a player who was barely showing as an option under Tuchel is now back to his best. The size of the Chelsea squad however is made of pure fpl nightmares 🙁

He is a good manager no doubt

True - Chelsea model 18mths/2 years new manager

Could be under new ownership they look longer term if Potter does not lose the dressing room like Tuchel from March 2022 to September 2022

Can’t say I like Chelsea that much at all. My first fpl season many many years ago I even refused both them and Man Utd in my squad. (Didn’t last past my 1st season though)
I like Potter though a lot, I hope the goons now in charge give him a chance to build something but I fear as you say he’ll come unstuck once the reality sets in.
