Interesting some of the comments about City buying Nunes and letting Palmer go, but isnt it good business by City overall. I see him and Doku as different types of ballers and not direct replacements for Mahrez, and net spend is about 20 odd mil after mahrez went for 35 and palmer for 42.5. Pep doesnt have a great history in utilising youth/academy players outside of the cups, unless they are exceptional like Foden. He's been that way most of his managerial career. so dont know why people are really shocked. We also dont know what is being said to palmer and and mahrez for example, if they are not given much game time assurances, only some are happy a la phillips, to potter on the bench getting fleeting chances.

City's academy is a very successful money printing mill. They even have the multi club international arm of it. But yes good business. Sell palmer for massively inflated price because he's english and buy an underappreciated rough diamond who a year ago was one of Europe's most sought after young talents

Also the fact that sales generated from academy products count entirely towards this year's FFP - hence why Chelsea were so desperate to sell Mount.

Similar to Dortmund and Ajax and to a lesser degree Chelsea, Barca and Real.

I think these clubs have the sole intention of training up young talent through their academies or in City's case, their sister clubs, showcasing them and farming them off for a profit. And maybe keep one or two exceptions.

We'll find out. Is Doku not just a Sterling regen, never been particularly impressed when I've seen him play. Raw pace isn't enough, ask Mudryk.

Nunes seems like a weird transfer

I think City's business has been bad, but they obviously know a lot more about football than me.

      1. Bigbars
        • 14 Years

I think he just looks for lots of different types of players to fit differing tactics; ball holders, ball hoggers, defensively minded, attacking minded, hold up, break up... etc....

Then he can do the pep thing and chuck a spanner in his team selection when he wants to play a certain way. I was really surprised with the Grealish purchase, as he is a ball hogger which doesnt follow the usual mo of a pep player. But maybe he is ticking every box for any eventuality. And he has fit in well to what he wants after that first transitional year.
Let's hope they all keep on his good side or else off they go.. Sane, Cancelo.. we're looking at you guys

          • 10 Years

Personally I think Grealish is a great Pep player, good in tight spaces and rarely loses the ball. 95% of teams play a low block vs them, I suppose Doku could be useful in the other 5% or as a sub when teams are forced to attack after being behind.

Tbh I don't really rate Doku. I think he'll be a pure winger backup. I don't think he has the footballing intelligence to play in a Pep team. Happy to be proven wrong.

Nunes is great business though. He's young and he has all the qualities to be elite in midfield. I reckon Nunes will be rotated with Kovacic and groomed to take over that #8 role by next season.

Couple of final questions on WC:

    A) Foden
    B) Bowen

    Start one:

    A) Trippier (bha)
    B) Estupinan (NEW)

Both teams likely to score. So based purely on xGi data it has to be Estu. Obviously I'd start Trippier though 😛

Cheers, also noise aside about group of death and all that but what a great group in the UCL for Toon fans. Gonna be a tight group where something around 9 points might be enough to qualify.

        1. TheTinman
          • 10 Years

          I love the group.

Even if we go out, what an amazing 6 games for the fans.

I think we're better than Milan, and the Dortmund games could go either way.

All teams will take pts off each other, so at least you shouldn't require a massive total to qualify.

3rd place and Europa would not be a disaster at all...

Estupinan in form. Would pick him over Watkins.

Watkins also has 3 assists in 3 in the league and a hatty in europe with a light run-out last night.

I would 100% play Watkins against Gomez and Matip

Cheers Popey. I didn't know about his hatty last night. I like Watkins, a proper team player, great work ethic but converted winger didn't score enough goals. Emery's ramped up his confidence in front of goal so regardless of Pool defence quality it's down to his confidence on the day.

    B) Jackson
    C) Alvarez

    Areola
    Chilwell, Saliba, Estupinan
    Salah, Foden, Saka, Sterling, Mitoma
    Haaland, Pedro

Damn, guess I have to abandon my non-Erling captaincy punt after reading this in the Fulham team news:
"Joao Palhinha is also seemingly on his way to Bayern Munich, leaving the Cottagers extremely understaffed in the engine room. The untested Tyrese Francois is one option alongside Harrison Reed if no-one else arrives in time, while Andreas Pereira or Bobby De Cordova-Reid could alternatively play deeper"

I know the Scout had the same two options and went with Areola (before the "this question is in the article" crew start their shift) but I am stuck between Areola and Flekken for this week. I haven't watched either team play this year yet and both opposing teams are pretty shite. I am currently on Flekken only because of the home match fixture but Luton are probably slightly worse than Bournemouth. Anybody else in the same situation?

If I was playing 3 up front, those are the 3 I'd go for. But I can't see myself benching any of my 5 mids & it just seemed to have Watkins on the bench this week or in rotation with Wissa (who I'd only really want to bench v NEW). So I've just gone with Archer as 8th attacker & will reconsider Watkins (or maybe Darwin) when the fixtures swing around GW10

        * seemed wasteful.

Also prefer to have a bit of liquid cash for midfield flexibility (about 3m itb)

          Agree with this assessment.

    Liverpool reject a £150m bid.

    £100m upfront.

£1.5m for Salah each week, but it's not currently happening.

Ignoring everything else, waiting until the final day of the window for the seller is dumb as rocks and shows that the Saudis don't have any business savvy. A £150m bid made 3 days ago would at least have been given some minor consideration.

If I was Liverpool, I wouldn't have even responded to the fax/email today.

Took them some time to heed Overtinker's advice https://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/25944953
