I don’t get selling the most expensive player on the game on a Monday night

There are still midweek games to play

We legit don’t know what it is yet. Peps injury description and then recovery timeframes aren’t even consistent. Which could be English second language or could be misinformation.

But even if we did know, we don’t know what happens mid week. Watkins could get injured on Thurs. Solanke is safer but he’s still Solanke. Other fires could start where Haaland becomes a lower priority sell

Definitely think paying 0.1 or 0.2 for more info later in the week makes sense

Pep's description is as clear as the issue lets him be, tbf: a bruised bone, not fractured. Haaland must be able to walk, run and kick without pain for them to know it's cleared up. Like Bowen recently, there's no timeframe - they'll just keep checking daily. Once he's moving freely, he can train fully and resume starting

This could be as soon as this weekend. If not, then most likely the Club World Cup

Owned the first half before Wildcard. 150k! I would like to have that, i started with him mostly because u was unsure of Liverpool, with new midfield. But they got the ground almost at once, it's actually City that hasn't got their new signings working, yet.
        Will you without on WC?

Anyone got Callum Wilson on their watch list?
WC19/20 planned so if he gets more minutes against Milan I'd be tempted to punt it.
Any grounds to think Isak might be rested a bit during the next lot of games

I think they will prefer one over the other, and it's probably Wilson once he's fully fit

Bought Isak for his consistent returns and to get to GW18, and he's not going to manage either!

      B. I know Nunez is a rubbish striker but one has to hope he does well against a jaded Manchester utd side.

Think Bayern will destroy all the energy & enthusiasm left in that Manchester United side so I expect Liverpool to find it easy tbh.

      B or D

If you want Guehi out and Porro in, then that's a clear decision IMO.

As for "other" I'd be looking to strengthen Baldock or Chuck - even if just a little - plenty of budget options in those brackets.

I do think Darwin needs to go, but not just yet

George is suggesting that you need not consider Areola -> Sanchez as an alternative at all, as the Chelsea goalie was quite poor in Sunday's game.

Regarding your options, you can wait for further news on Haaland. If he's definitely out, you can move him on for Solanke or possibly even Darwin. Alternatively, you can bench him and move on Andersen for Tsimikas or Porro. Avoid Dalot as United are neither in form nor have good fixtures.

So I'm already -4 this week (Trippier/Haaland out, Porro/Watkins in)

A: Keep as is for this week, use WC on GW19 as I planned.
B: Pivot and use WC now to clean up defense/GK, find a way back to Haaland on 19 with transfers

    Any advice appreciated!

    Dubravka
    Dalot - Tsimi - Porro
Salah - Son - Saka - Palmer -Gordon
    Watkins - Darwin

Possibly B but your defence is okay.

Depends if you want to keep Darwin for the weekend really.

Also Salah to Haaland if he's fit by then in gw20 is fine.

Curious why you changed your mind. For me the WC pros are:
1: Prefer Solanke over Darwin this weekend.
2: Could improve on mediocre Dalot/Tsimi fixtures for the next two weeks.
        3: Goalies are a mess.

I just still have this feeling that a GW19 WC could set me up better for GW20 and on.

other than Porro your defence isn't great then I looked at your bench properly!

a wildcard will improve your squad.

I agree that your defense doesn't look awful, so I'd stick with A for now. Might change to B depending on midweek fires cropping up though, or if Haaland is passed fit, you could even bring him back this week, potentially 0.1 or 0.2 cheaper than you sold him.

      1. odbs1515

Thanks, I'm thinking holding and deciding later in the week makes sense. Never considered I could change my mind and get haaland again! (but not sure I want the headache of the GW 18 blank if I don't have my WC left)

          • 5 Years

If you did pull the trigger to get him back, you'd just make sure that your 8th attacker or 4th defender could cover that week (Fulham are home to Burnley so could be a good place to look).

Not saying that this means you should do it, but just that 18 isn't really a headache at all of all you're doing is benching Haaland for one week. (And all of this is irrelevant anyway if he's out! )

    4. 112kane112
      • 7 Years

      I would go A.

Using a wildcard is no small thing. Your team does not need it that badly.

I wouldn't have knee jerked Haaland so early - as you've potentially took a -4 for nothing.

Plan is pretty simple for me, if Haaland is out take the hit this week for Watkins, turn Alvarez into Raul next week and then Nunez into Haaland.

This gives me Trippier, Salah, Son, Saka, Haaland & Watkins.

Don’t like the idea of spreading the funds when Son & Salah go, simple swaps to KDB & an Arsenal/Liverpool/City mid would do and roll a FT to bring both straight back when ready.

No need to over complicate things, spread funds and then be forced into a WC to get them back, KDB is the key.

Have enough money in the bank to ride out last nights chances and have .8 let to spare once Watkins/Raul come in, trusting Pep (who no one trusts) for a decision this big to save .1 seems madness.

that's fair enough but expecting KDB to be back and hit the ground running night be optimistic.

I agree the second wildcard is best saved to Easter if possible, but sometimes you've just got to use it for advantage.

That said, so many went early with their wildcards this season rather than saving it for December.

Once I get Watkins back, I just don’t know where I’d go with a WC when I feel I’d have all the key big hitters in place, for once, I can see myself saving it for mass injuries or the double period.

Lots can happen but just can’t see past the golden 6 of Trippier, Salah, Son, Saka, Haaland & Watkins, once in, it’ll probably take injury to move them.

I’m not sure tbh, Trippier is getting slated a lot but he’s still got something silly like 5 double digit hauls, wasn’t that long ago he was getting 12 v United, I don’t think I’d sell Trippier for Trent even if I had the funds, I’d probably look for a way to try & squeeze Alisson in instead.

Both teams fixs swing now anyway, Newcastle ease up, Liverpool hit a run where i I can’t see many CS.

I like that striker swapping plan, hopefully no other fires derail it. I've been happy without Alvarez all season, but quite jealous now.

I get the logic for Salah and Son being out, but agree not to trust KDB yet. If you don't want to spread the funds to allow easy route back then that's fine, just keep the money in the bank. Over such a short spell there are much cheaper players that I'd be confident to outscore a returning-to-fitness KDB.

Yeah that’s cool, KDB is the priority and do think he’ll hit the ground running, doubt they’ll rush him back if he’s not at that stage but I guess the point is I’ll be doing two swaps and not spending the Salah/Son change.

See who’s looking good around that time and take a few punts with those spots because the rest would feel pretty template.

Is Solanke essential at just 6.7m?

Nailed on talisman, on pens, guarantied 90 mins over festive period and playing for an attacking Bournemouth side.

Big Dom ticks all the boxes

In fact only Haaland Salah Son and Bowen has more goals than Solanke.

Best move would probably be to wait until the Friday presser

If he's ruled out, Watkins is better long-term, but Solanke has the better immediate fixture

My suggestion would be Haaland to Solanke after the presser, Darwin to Watkins for GW18

Darwin was my the placeholder for haaland in gw19, provided he's back. Could get Solanke this gw but problem is I also have Guehi > Pau pencilled in for next gw, so not sure if another hit would be worth it.

I know his not been scoring much if late, but I would be cautious with selling Darwin now. Salah going to Afcon will likely miss 21-23, maybe 24 if Egypt reach semifinal.
He's on pens when Salah doesn't play.
And while hs not the most clinical, his pen record is amazing.

I can't justify a Haaland sale for a hit here. I can justify it in many RMTs I've seen, but not in my squad:

    Dubravka
    Tsimikas Porro Gabriel
    (C)Salah Son Bowen Gordon Saka
    Haaland Watkins
    .
    Areola Lascelles Archer Coufal
    .
1M OR. 0 FT (Guehi to Porro). 0.5 ITB

Gabriel and Lascelles probably get 2 points each, but I'm not sure who to start between them. I wouldn't be surprised if both get returns. I could get Archer's 2 points off the bench and push Lascelles to second sub if I'm scared enough of Fulham scoring 4+ at St. James's

Still, that's not -4 to sell Haaland, then -4 to get him back when I also have to deal with defensive transfers for the fixture swings and nailedness of Tsimikas and Lascelles, then the Son & Salah tournaments

I'm tempted to do as little as possible and just watch what happens, with a fully playing bench:

GW17: Guehi to Porro. Lascelles auto-subs in for Haaland
GW18: Tsimikas to Pau. Start Archer (AVL) or Coufal (Man U) for Haaland
    GW19: Roll FT
    GW20: Salah + Dubravka to KDB/Odegaard + Martinez
    GW21: Son to Richarlison

It's a bruise, not an injury. He'll be ready for the Club World Cup because the pain should be low enough by then to stop restricting his mobility

I expect him to miss the UCL game as a precaution, then if he doesn't make the weekend, he'll be back for Dubai

If he's confirmed out for GW19 by Friday's presser, then the hit for Solanke's next three games becomes more justified for my team

how do you know this if he couldn't walk after Villa?

it's also the type of issue/injury that can get progressively worse without sufficient rest.

So it he's not available for Palace he's missing two and it could get worse and exacerbate it if he does play in the club world cup.

which might mean missing 3 Premier League games, at that point he'd be an easy sell at £14m for most people.

he's already missed one but people hoping he's back rather than looking at what we do know.

            I'm a doctor

Pep has already said it's not a stress fracture, but just a stress. What I've described up there is what's happening, unless Pep is lying. That's possible, of course, but what I said is based on Pep's quotes which was based on what the medical team told him

Based on what we know right now: the main issue is pain, not an injury or fracture. He couldn't walk freely after the impact. He was already walking freely by Saturday. If he can handle running and kicking freely and join full training before the weekend, he'll play. If he's not fully pain-free by then, he'll most likely be ready for Dubai. This is from his medical staff

It's not an issue to be worsened by stress because it's a bruise, not a fracture or a muscle/ligament issue

He could already walk by Saturday

Limited mobility due to pain is different from limited mobility due to tissue damage

He couldn't walk because it was too painful to bear load on that foot, not because the foot itself couldn't function properly

The pain had cleared enough for him to walk without pain by Saturday, showing the possible speed of his recovery and how mild it was. The next step would be to be sure he can bear more weight (sprints) and take impacts (kicking) without pain to be sure it's healed enough for the painkillers to be enough to see him through a match

There is no definite timeline for pain and inflammation, but a guesstimate... Just like Bowen's recent knee effusion

That said, the medical staff think it's Dubai if it's not this weekend

I think so too, but they're about to have another gruelling UCL game which won't help their fatigue levels. Fulham's goalscoring form is a worry too

GK move: fixture swing and Newcastle GK replacement rumours. I also don't want to trust Areola. I could sell Areola by then instead, but one of them should go

Interesting , is it 2 transfers getting haaland out (and back) vs spend them on goalie and defender upgrades Tsimikas/Dubravka

If Harry Kane was still here I think it'd be a clear choice

There are other moves I could make with the FTs, yeah... But none involve selling someone I'll buy back, for hits. Salah and Son have to go by GW21 - nothing murky about their chances of starting. If I don't arrive there with 2 FTs, I'm looking at a hit. So that's effectively expecting Solanke to outscore my first sub + 8 points, which I can't really justify right now

Agree on Kane, although I think Solanke is a good replacement for those who don't have such bench headaches

Yep fair call, have to be stingy with FT over this period. I have WC still so will definitely sell.

Solanke is a nice replacement but doesn't seem optimal money wise

I did a -4 for Kabore to Porro and Haaland to Solanke but I still have WC in tact which I will use in 19/20 to get Haaland back in and get rid of Afcon players. It´s all team dependent on whether to keep or sell Haaland, for me I can distribute the funds for 2 weeks and have a stronger team for 2-3 GW.

I would wait until Newcastle played Milan. It feels like a game that could potentially made their injury state even worse.
Lascelles and Schaer were in obvious pain vs Spurs, Joelinton had an issue. And this game is si important for them they're going 100% in for it.
Gordon is one of them playing an awful lot of minutes recently.
Barnes is maybe back also, which could be a factor in the Fulham game.
And Fulham is in form, Luton just played very well against both Arsenal and City at home, so Im not that sure this run is the best considering the state of Newcastle. Away to Luton is just after carabaou cup vs Chelsea midweek.

Agreed. If I had inside knowledge that Erling was out for a while, I'd be putting Alvarez in instead. This suggests to me that he was taken out with blank 18 in mind. That said, this is an FPL team with Rodri in it, so should we pay any attention... ?

I agree with your analysis in general on the information we have on Håland.
I don't think he's out for Palace injury wise, but given that he's so important and there are risks with those kind of things, the fact it's Palace home (who's going to play teenagers to fill their eleven) I think they have decided to just sit it out, having ten days or what is in warm climate without stress to heal it properly. I think that's why his family and friends took him out.
He's a big lad, and il not a doctor, but it's a weight thing, and he's heavy. Bowen is a tiny man.

Considering it myself, not certain I trust Pep enough any which way though unless he explicitly says that he's in or out. That said, you'd expect Haaland to either start or not be in the squad at all, so C should be relatively safe.

I've been having a little look/think about Bournemouth & Fulham, and while I'm not against the Solanke pick, I do think their attack is likely to be more successful against sides that will come on to them more than Luton. There's not much creativity there and their goals are mainly coming from their press forcing errors / high turnovers and using the pace & direct running of their front 4.

Fulham's attacking form looks a bit more sustainable to me now that they've got a settled front 4. There's ample creativity there with Andreas/Willian and even Jimenez (see the delightful chipped through ball v WHU). I've been a bit of an Iwobi skeptic but I'm hearing good things and almost convinced there.

Anyway, this is my roundabout way of saying C 🙂
