The clock was started shortly before the start of the nuclear arms race in 1949, and according to the clock the world was at its safest since then in 1991 when it appeared that the Cold War was ending following the fall of the Berlin Wall and the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
The world has become an increasingly dangerous place ever since then though, with the nuclear threat increasing again and Global Climate Change becoming an additional major concern since 2012.
By 2018 the clock was back at the 1953 level, and has crept even closer to midnight since then.

Define "better back in the day"? We've had wars going on in the middle-east for a long time, Russia's aggression in Eastern Europe has been going on for much more than the duration of the Ukraine war, one could argue that it felt like the threat of nuclear warfare breaking out was more likely around 10-30 years ago than today despite strained relations between a lot of those that are regarded as superpowers. I think one of the main differences now is how much "fighting" is done now by proxy, the propaganda game is an entirely different beast with the Internet and authoritarian regimes cracking down on eyes looking in from the outside.

Part of the difference now is that we're seeing more of the bad in the world with ever-improving technology and the Internet. Quality of life and cost of living has always been an issue but it does feel like it's getting out of hand in a lot of places. Just because the likes of Boris Johnson or Trump aren't leading their nations right now when they were a few years ago doesn't mean that it won't happen again, or that those that have taken over for them are exactly better.

Definitely more things to distract us now, but not necessarily better things. I preferred life back in the 90s, but that is tinged with nostalgia of being younger and having fewer responsibilities.

No. Everything is as sh*t as it always has been, only difference is that social media has brought it all to everyone's attention. In the old days, politicians were able to suppress much of the sh*tness by preventing media outlets from reporting on it so we all lived in relative ignorance.

Without doutbt a major proprtion of social media is trying to sell you something. As is main-stream media,

Social media is a general term for alternative main stream media.

There are more sources and interpretation of the news you digest.

Not easier, more complex to digest, but more context at least.

Without referencing any thought is the world good or bad? The world just IS. Only the mind ( a cluster of thoughts right?) says this is good or this is bad.
Realise the nature of thought. What is a thought made of? What is its substance?
We let thoughts define our experience but never become curious about what a thought is. It's complete insanity !

    What would you do here?

    A) Salah to KDB
    B) Archer to Haaland (risk a cameo)
    C) Something else?

1 FT, 9.5 ITB. Need to sell Archer or Salah really to field XI:

    Areola
    Porro Gabriel Botman
    Foden Palmer Rich Saka
    Watkins Solanke Archer

    Dubravka Cash Taylor Salah

A and B if they play will be cameos anyway.
Almost guarantee KDB will play 30 minutes which means could get a couple of assists/goals or blank . Haaland I'd a bit more tricky me personally would wait and see on him.
My choice is A as suspect he will return.

Of those A but I'd wait until after the weekend. Maybe Cash to Estu? I'm a little tentative to get either KDB or Haaland in until we know their minutes won't be significantly limited. KDB isn't going to score double digits in 20-odd minute cameos every week.

Maybe, yeah. But if I do Cash to Estup, I'm playing 4 at the back or starting Archer

I guess if I get KDB now, it's an investment for the next 6 GWs and I'd expect probably 3-4 starts in that run maybe?

Tough this gw. I would say Alvarez but he could easily come off early or not start

Bowen safe but west ham look horrific

KDB won't play the full game

No one in their right mind would captain Richi or Foden. Foden is a troll end of and Richi has no upside, rubbish with baps and could get dragged early

If I had Jota I'd just take a punt on him

Between Alvarez, Foden and Bowen. Kudus back, but isn't Paqueta the creating one(?). Currently on Alvarez, he can do damage even from bench, just like Jota and Darwin have.

Got Porro, Richarlison, TAA, Palmer (and Kabore) so 5 blanks. Richarlison might be the easiest sell if Maddison comes back but I've got a fair bit of value tied un in some of those guys.

        1. GreennRed
          • 14 Years

Points are your value. If players increase in value you'll probably still gain a bit when selling.

I only have 1 player from those 4 teams combined currently so I'm not too worried. Will likely bring in at least one (if not two) more Liverpool but it'll be easier to manage than most. Can hopefully focus a bit on a few punts in the meantime

I reckon I might change strategy to FH25 now (admittedly, TC looks amazing that week too)

Would mean being able to load up on the best 3x Liverpool (Trent, Darwin, maybe Salah) without having to worry about BGW26

Also, would be able to retain Watkins, Richarlison and Porro for 29 (if AVL/TOT get knocked out the FA Cup tomorrow)

I'd see how Solanke looks this weekend and maybe switch for Gordon. Gordon has a good record against the best teams, but Newcastle much better at home than away.

I think that Salah is not needed again until gameweek 30. He definitely won't play before 25, highly questionable whether he will play both matches in the double, then blanks in 26, has City in 28 and again blanks in 29. Planning transfers without him in the equation is going to be much better for teams long term, and for chip strategy as well.

Fact: We don’t know when he is back.
Now, knowing that… forget Salah until we know he is back and continue business as usual.
However, it would be nice to have 2 transfers transfers available - just in case…

Gw27 captaincy isn't easy decision. Most "good" teams play away, Manchester derby and Spurs vs CP are exceptions. Son against double-decker isn't good idea.

Haaland vs Man U at the Etihad is close to TC territory

Most likely Salah to KDB for free.
Any of Saka/Bailey/Watkins/Solanke worth selling for a hit?

Keep seeing people mention GW25, are Liverpool due to have a double that week?

Potentially yes due to EFL cup final changing GW26 to a blank but it will also depend on Liverpool's result in the FA Cup this weekend

Breaking news from the future before gw25: "Erling has been training well, but had little setback. He is a doubt therefore but hopefully he can play. We have to reassess him before the match. Since it's bone, we have to be careful."

If not mentioned already, South Korea avoiding Japan puts them playing one day sooner. While no hope of a GW22 appearance, it is possible that elimination sees Son back for GW23 (bench I'd guess).

Who's everyone bringing in for Salah? Is bringing a Spurs player in, worth it? Spurs obviously blank in GW26

I would say that of managers here sold Salah before AFCON so not sure if we can provide any helpful insight. Can’t see your team but would get some Man City cover then Liverpool. In that order.

        My front 8 are -
        Salah, Saka, Foden, Gordon, Palmer.
        Watkins, Solanke, Archer.

Thinking of punting in KDB or Maddison.

Have to keep an eye on GW26 so not sure I want a Spurs player.

Why do I think that fitness monster Salah will be ready quicker than expected and Egypt will be out before finals and thus dgw 25 is made for him?

Thinking of playing Garnacho vs Wolves and keeping Salah on bench at least for one week for more news.

Especially if Haaland is fit I wouldn't not want to spend "unnecessary" fts.

    Thoughts?

Yeah but if you don't own Jota, you may miss out on his hauls until then.

Could be but Chelsea and Arsenal are not easy games.
