My decisions this week revolve around whether I think Maddison starts against Ipswich.

If he does he's a beautiful hold. If he doesn't then it's going to hurt that I didn't switch him to Bruno. Tempted to hold as Ange may give him a start against a less challenging team, but it's a tough one. Minutes diminishing every week.

    So,
    A) keep Madders
    B) sell for Bruno
    C) sell for another Spurs midfielder to get coverage v Ipswich, but just for 1 week.

Can't see Madders being benched twice in a row. Even if so, he'd come on against a tiring Ipswich second half.

It wasn't a rest - see Ange's comments about his tactical HT subbing v West Ham - so yes he could easily be benched again

exactly, ange has worked out he cant use Maddi and Kulu in midfield unless its a very easy fixture

Consider keeping Havertz for the excellent long run of fixtures coming up and the return of Odegaard. I'll be considering buying him in GW12. Hard to pick a standout on your list. Probably Cunha this week or Welbeck next week. I'm heavily swayed by fixtures, but if you have a rotation plan, then you gotta take that into consideration.

My main focus tonight will be keeping an eye on Wissa. 5.6% owned and unbeknownst to me has been out for most of the season. If you're not worried about recurrence of the injury then he could be a major consideration.
He's only played 404 minutes but in that time has 4 goals and 2 assists. His next 5 games are BOU eve LEI vil NEW.
Plus at 6m, if you were to decide to sell a certain viking, you'd have an extra 9m+ to pump in to the midfield.

  9. How has the ability to save more free transfers affected your transfer strategy?

I usually love a good hit, if you know what I mean, but I've only made 5 transfers outside of my WC this season -all of them free- and I'm planning to save another freebie again this week. Pretty smooth rolling season so far, besides all the points I keep benching. All change at my next mini-WC, though, when I spunk all my frees on Arsenal players, the traditional cause of my poo ranks. Hope you enjoyed my update. Have a nice day.

Players are experiencing an aversion to make transfers this season so far, though I don't think it's a conscious decision. An apparent unintended consequence of the seasons new rule of being able to save up to five, perhaps.

i'd agree with this. i did take a hit last week (think i was the only one with Mbuemo who was essential) and it seemed to affect my rank a lot. Sadly i didn't save any transfers at the start of the season. If you could do that for four weeks or so you can just play the game as normal have spare for the foresseable without hits.

      3. Deulofail
        • 9 Years
        1 year, 1 month ago

Makes sense if it's true, though I don't know if it's true

Also, probably quite conscious for many or most if true

I can tell you that my aversion is a result of scoring lots of points! And paying more attentions to fixture swings (because of the possibility of banking up to 5 transfers). My plan from GW1 was to WC GW4 then save 4-5 FTs for the GW8 swing, then go again. I've been a little lucky to avoid injuries, for the most part, but price rises have also forced my hand a couple of times, which sucks.

I think some popular players have been injured, so there could have been more transfers than usual this season tbh. I don't really know how to know

I think one of the biggest things for me is I now have a lot more clarity around transfers. The idea of being able to keep more transfers feels rewarding, almost like a savings account and is something I look to do. On top of that, knowing I can keep my transfers after wild carding is even more rewarding

          1. Deulofail
            • 9 Years
            1 year, 1 month ago

I think keeping transfers after WC/FH was a big reason most thought it better to save WC for longer this season, as they could use FTs for little changes and not lose any they've saved when "the time" comes for the WC. I thought the opposite. You can use FTs as mini-WC now, but you can make more ground and money by WCing early. The value of saving it is less than I used to be. So I have reversed all my usual tendencies, from WCing late, to taking hits early on, to cramming Arsenal players into my team (I've not owned one this season), and being 1-3m OR at this stage of the season. Instead, I might end the GW in the top 10k!

Losing FTs when WC/FHing was always bogus, and probably a mistake/oversight that was never corrected.

Yeah I’ve really felt patience has worked a lot this season. Not that it would have worked for me last season. Like just hanging on to Welbeck and Jackson for a bit instead of spending transfers on getting in Wood has worked out so well.

A lot of it is just, what happens happens. What people call "luck" and "variance". I was "on the right side of variance" fairly often this season so far, but not a lot in the past, like, 5 seasons haha. Patience has paid off his season if you had the right players, like every season! Just nice to know what it's like to be at the front. I can see why so many content creators are drunk on their elitism!

I think taking hits is a little bit more valuable this year because you not just buying the chance to save up 2FTs earlier, but 3, 4 or 5 FTs earlier. If that makes sense. It would certainly be in my thinking if I was considering a hit anyway.

I think saving up multiple free transfers just for the sake of it is over-rated, but it is a useful tool to have available, especially if you want to say sell Haaland and redistribute the funds using three or more transfers (or do the reverse to get him back), or need to deal with multiple unexpected injuries. It is now possible to do this in one Gameweek without taking hits, providing that you have enough free transfers saved up.

Not losing all your saved transfers when you play your Wildcard or Free Hit chip is also an improvement that adds more flexibility to the game.

But if you do find yourself in a position where you need to take hits because you have too few free transfers available, then the possibility of taking those hits should not be automatically ruled out. It should be possible to avoid this situation happening too often though by means of good planning in earlier Gameweeks.

Yeah I think I am more inclined to save FTs this season, but also more inclined to take hits so I can build the transfers back up again.

Has not changed anything for me.
Used WC GW 2 and already taken -24 points in hits.

It's certainly made me think a lot more about short term picks/punts. It's also made it a lot harder for the big models to choose the best strategy which makes me happy. I think we've got our game back!

Allowing the save of more transfers hasn't affected me (yet)

It's clearly affected others, even if just subconsciously.

In previous seasons, it was rare for people to make frivolous trades to avoid burning a transfer. Yet now people have 3/4/5 banked cos there's nothing to do.

Love the idea of rolling up to 5FT but I haven't rolled a single transfer and have taken two hits so far 🙂

Combination of a few bad initial picks and being aggressive attacking the fixtures. Sitting at 380k so working well enough so far.

I just saw a quote from Trent that Slot has been teaching him how to defend better and he is focusing on defending, now it all makes sense.

    Sels
    Konate Gabriel Porro
    Saka Mbeumo Palmer Smith Rowe
    Haaland Welbeck Cunha

Slicker Rogers L Davis Harwood Bellis

    1 free transfer
    0m in the bank

I'm rolling this week barring any injuries of course. My problem is the WC. GW12 had looked like a good time from afar, but I like my team. Anyone else struggling to find the right time to play it?

    Flekken
    Gabriel Mykolenko Pau
    Saka Palmer Mbeumo Eze*
    Haaland Solanka DCL

    (Fabianski Winks Dunk* Greaves*)

    A) Eze to Garnacho/Johnson
    B) Haaland & Eze to Cunha & Salah
    C) Anything else?

I wouldn't go to Johnson just for the Ipswich game. Garnacho gets many chances but his finishing is frustrating.
B is reasonable but only if you think Salah is better than Haaland long term, it will be hard to go back once you do it.

I'd prioritise DCL out for any of Cunha/Wood/Raul/Wissa etc

My ML rival has sold Haaland. So is my best plan to stick the armband on him? He's been poor though, but Brighton next, unless his arm injury keeps him out lol

Apparently it was just an am injury, not his arm, I read

Really want Mbeumo, but the sensible thing is to probably save a FT, right?

    Flekken (Fabianski)
TAA Aina RAN (V.D. Berg Greaves)
    Salah Palmer Semenyo Rogers (Buonanotte)
    Haaland Jackson Raul

    2FT & 0.1m

    A) Save FT
    B) TAA & Buonanotte > Hall & Mbeumo.
    C) TAA & Rogers > Mazraoui & Mbeumo
