I wouldn't waste 2 transfer for defence, especially when I would still have the exact same two teams. Unless it's on a WC of course.

same Trant will be dangerous at Southampton surely!!!, I don't like Man City's defence at all until after Liverpool, we only got in RAN for potential assists (and my benched 10-pointers Davis lol), but you can't rely on Gvardiols scoring a goal in the next 3 weeks to justify that move. he may score 3 and I will hold my hand up and is the better pick, but unless you have 4FT and above I wouldn't bother.

Having said that Gvardiol looks good defensively (slightly after GW13)

Thankyou mate!!! Yeah TAA vs Saints could be the week he finally hauls!!! Better stick and be on the safe side for that game at the least!!! Can always re-assess in a few week. I am keen to get Gvardial in for Lewis at some points, funds are tight however so that move may not be possible unless an injury occurs , we shall see!!! Good for thought!!

foden, solanke johnson to saka, seymenyo welbeck, but then you are missing out on Chelsea because of Haaland?

I'd prioritise getting in Palmer for Foden. Solanke downgrade after GW11 seems the easiest to fund it without a hit.

Getting pretty bored of this xG and xA stuff, their either under or over, is anyone actually hitting their predicted numbers? Is there even a point?

    1. Deulofail
      • 9 Years
      1 year, 1 month ago

Lol xG isn't a prediction of how many goals someone will score. And even if it were, it wouldn't matter if players were matching it dead on.

So why even use it if it wouldn't matter?

It's just about the quality of the chances they are getting

Ergo someone with shots closer to goal and more central should score more.

If they are under-performing it, it becomes a concern and some say over exceeding they'll drop off.

The real concern is if they aren't getting into those positions and on the end of the pass.

What's DCL's expected goal involved looking like?

DCL is a renowned underperformer on his XG but you don't need data to tell you that either. Just to pick up something on your explanation as well which is a flaw of XG slightly is it doesn't measure the quality of chance you get unless you actually take a shot. No shots = 0 XG which is pretty much what was showing for Solanke lately.

I still think it's a waste of data... For example it doesn't take into account what player is taking the shot, I would expect an attached to score a penalty a lot more than say a defender but the xG would be the same for both

because it's not a prediction of the future! Shots on target and chances created also don't take the player into consideration

It is personal to each player

It's an indicator of the likelihood of scoring relative to the proximity to goal and defenders/goal keeper position for a chance connected on goal.

It's pretty meaningful to be fair, after the score line itself etc.

        2. Deulofail

Do you only use accurate data from the future? Where do you get it? A sports almanac?

In actual fact players do match their xG in the same way that players who score 3 goals from 10 shots scored 3 goals from 10 shots. Players get the xG that they get. It's a point of historic record, not a prediction of the future.

What you're saying is akin to: conversion rates (goals vs shots taken) are useless because a player doesn't score at a consistent rate. If a player with 25% conversion rate doesn't match that 25% in every game, then there's no point in considering conversion rates, so stop going on about them!

The assist part of the equation doesn't work for FPL where you can get awarded an assist for being fouled and other weird stuff etc I get the idea behind it but you are measuring the statistic against a reward system in FPL which is a completely different.

        • 7 Years

Not taking FPL wise, just talking in general, even some pundits reference it and they feel it means nothing

It's a register of their involvement in goal scoring chances, it's meaningful because it gives you a broader view that just converted shots/headers etc...

It is not perfect but it's not a bad indicator.

          1. Tommy Template
            • 11 Years

Its a good indicator to who is involved from an Opta perspective I completely agree. But FPL don't reward assists in the same way as Opta so the over and underperforming on assists is irrelevant really because you could get fouled and register an assist.
