Gameweek 38 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) offers managers one last chance to boost their rank and make up ground in mini-leagues – but where are the genuine differentials to be found?

At this point of the season, ‘ghost teams’ are common, so to get a truer gauge of how popular a player is among active Fantasy managers, we turn to LiveFPL.

We’ve used the top 10,000 as the benchmark for this feature.

We’ll go fixture by fixture, handpicking a few lesser-owned players from the matchups while avoiding anyone with an ownership rate that exceeds 15%.

The obvious caveat is that these ownership figures are from Gameweek 37, so they won’t reflect transfers in this week.

With that in mind, we’ve noted if they rank in the top 50 for overall Gameweek 38 ‘transfers in’.

It’s also worth noting not all of these players are nailed-on to start.

So Liverpool will finish as the champions with the lowest points tally since Leicester. Another asterisk to go along with their covid title.

Will Liverpool ever win a legitimate premier league?

I suspect that might have been different if Arsenal didn't gift them the league in Feb/March.

Agreed, the only way Liverpool can win a title is if it’s gifted to them. They definitely can’t win it on their own merit

How can having a lower points tally be grounds for being less legitimate?
Liverpool have more points than any other team meaning Liverpool are Champions. Isn't that how things work?

The history books tell you Liverpool won the league this season.

It doesn’t care about how good or bad the competition was, or whatever other mitigating circumstances you might think aided them to win it.

All history cares about is whether they finished the season with more points than anyone else.

They did, so champions they are.

I’m not going to tell you what to do or think, but coming up with asterisks to try and invalidate a clubs achievements isn’t healthy and doesn’t make a jot of difference to how history will remember them.

NFL fans did the same thing to Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and the Patriots during their 2 decades of dominance, but whenever you look at the sports almanacs there they still are winners of all those championships that fans begrudged them winning.

Alan Wells won the 100m Olympic Golf Medal in 1980.

It’s universally agreed he doesn’t win that race if the USA had sent a team to that Olympiad instead of withdrawing out of protest against Russia.

But look in any history book or watch that race on YouTube a million times and you’re going to see the same end result every time, forever etched in immortality.

Just a word on the supposed Astrix for the COVID title. Might the Astrix state that Liverpool didn't actually need to win anymore points after lockdown to win the league....in other words lockdown was not a factor.

This season Liverpool have won similar and more points than a number of Fergies Man Utd title winning teams!

I don't think you can secure a 10 point lead as such. Just takes a differential captain shout. I would just play your own game, get who you think scores best and play it. Hopefully it then pays off for you

is that the rest of your team, or their team?

Need to try and box off their biggest threat. I don't think you can guess what they will do, so try and narrow it done to what they definitely won't, which is take out someone who is a differential to you.

so for example, is they have Wissa and you don't, you know they won't take them out so someone like that could be good to box off!

It's such a slim lead that you could argue just go for whoever you think will score biggest i.e. if you fancy saka this week, get him. However you want to put the onus on them to outscore you, boxing off one of their differentials (i'd be tempted to do a -4 and take 2 out from them) so depends if you are feeling shield or sword!

there is no real way of blocking that kind of lead without a free hit (and it still could back fire).

just try and sort one of your issues with the player you think does best. Your opponent is likely to take Isak out if injured.

Mbeumo and Wissa are both on 19 league goals this season. Incredible for Wissa to have scored all his goals without a single penalty.

Mane and Salah were the last duo to score 20 or more goals in a single season (2018-19).

If I were involved in recruitment for a top 10 teams in the Premier League I'd try to get both Wissa and Mbeumo on board, potentially Schade too and do a clean sweep of the front 3.

Brentford will do well to keep them.

      I'd go Rice over Saka.

Trossard could be a better pick than Martenelli.

      Everton could easily score.

You're dodging Mbeumo and Wissa points and potentially Cunha too.

      Good luck

No harm in starting Saliba ahead of Konsa or Burn just in case.

I am on BB, 2FT and £2.7m itb.

    Raya, Slicker

    Kerkez, Muñoz, Gvardiol, Dias, Neco

    Salah, Bowen, Kluivert, Mbeumo, Rogers

    Marmoush, Isak, Wissa

Getting a goalkeeper in will be my first transfer, and Isak to Evanilson if Isak is injured.

Is anything worth a hit? Any suggestions for my second transfer if Isak is fit ?

    TIA

If Isak is fit, I'd do Mamoush to Watkins.

Hold your transfers if you can, GW38 is always full of surprise no shows and benchings, it's going to be last minute chaos.

I'm currently 13 points ahead in my ML with a big prize on the line. See both of our teams below. How would you suggest I use my final FT? I have plenty ITB. Currently thinking to bring in Saka (to block him) or Bowen for Sarr and benching Eze or Gvardiol. Any thoughts?

    My team:

    Raya
    Gvardiol - Kerkez - Kiwior - Livra
    Salah - Mbuemo - KDB - Eze
    Evanilson - Watkins

    GK - Munoz - Beto - Sarr

    His team:

    Henderson
    Gvardiol - Konsa - Burn
    Salah - Mbuemo - Saka - Eze
    Marmoush - Watkins - Wood

    GK - Murphy - Digne - Saliba

Can see 3-1 or 2-1 or similar

Gotta agree with Virg here. This is a pointless article if it doesn't actually do anything other than dump transferred in stats at you. It doesn't really tell me much.

I'll revisit it later. I'm fully on the beach. Will spend probably Thursday and Friday doing my FH draft and then on Sunday before deadline I'll have a quick search for leaks and that'll be it for me.

    Have 1FT

    A) Salah> Saka
    B) Isak> Evanilson

What's the chances of Saka starting, Isak surely will start. they need to beat for top 4 finish.

If isak is out i would get evanilson or a more differential like welbeck (even cunha he does return tonight)

considering evan will be the top popular pick for GW38

and he was unlucky with the one he stabbed through a crowd at close range, really good save.

Last game of the season matches tend to be open, which will suit salah (also Saka potentially). Think Saka is the bigger minutes risk.

ultimately, your decision will be made by the team news. Transferring Salah out will be a luxury not many would be able to afford.

If you have a ML lead of 15-20 points and only one realistic rival, would you use FTs to try and match their team or maximise what you think are the best pick.

Rival has 1 FT and I have 2 and we both wildcarded in 35 to VERY similar squads:

Marmoush and KDB to Palmer and Cunha and bench Mbeumo could get that differences down to 2-3 players max but I’m not sure if it’s optimal

Palmer has been poor wouldn't bench Mbeumo

I guess is more conceptual though. Would you make what you think are suboptimal picks to try a match a chasers squad.

Benching Mbeumo makes no sense at all, although it's difficult to make suggestions without seeing your team.

Marmoush to Watkins/Evanilson/Wissa makes sense. The other can be used on Isak if he's not fit, or if not, I would get Bowen or a Bou mid if you don't already own them.

I might not have asked my question well. I’m not really asking what are the optimal picks in isolation. I’m asking would you make sub optimal picks in order to match a chaser

        1. Conners
          • 6 Years

I skim-read your post and misinterpreted it to some extent.

Regardless, I would just focus on buying players with the best form/fixtures. Palmer has neither.

Cunha is a potential minutes-risk so I wouldn't go there given the other options available.

Can you actually know what the chaser might do? Have they told you? For all you know they could sell some of those sub optimal picks and then you'd have them because you tried to second guess what they'd do, even though you don't want them. Play your own game, you probably didnt get here trying to copy those behind you.

10 points separate the top 4 in my ml, which I lead by 4 points. All have salah except for me, all have isak except me. None have bowen, one has kluivert, two have haaland. I'm thinking of bringing in bowen solely on form with my 1ft. But.............something is telling me that the palace vs pool game will be high scoring, surely salahs luck must change?

Just watched those 2 beauts Charragher and Neville picking their teams of the season on sky. These two clowns need sacking. Embarrassing

Every season we have this issue whereby players are being crowbarred into positions they don't play just because they want to include them. It has to be the best players for the positions!!

Bowen and Mbuemo have had fantastic seasons but they aren't the best players in their position because Salah is so therefore they can't make the team but here we are yet again with Neville putting Mbuemo in the left forward position. HE DOESN'T PLAY THERE GARY YOU MORON! Gibbs White also doesn't play in that position either. Absolute joke..

The inclusion of Munoz has also not been thought through. He has indeed had a great season so lets recognise that. However for that right back position, I'm sorry but his stats don't match up to Trent. Munoz has 4 goals to Trent's 3 but Trent wins every other stat. From playing significantly less minutes he has more clean sheets, more assists and a higher xGi. Not to mention the small matter of him winning the league!

I would also have Wissa as the centre forward. He competes with only Wood and Isak. He has scored 19 goals all from open play, no penalties. Wood has scored only 1 more but also takes pens and plays for a better team. Isak has 4 more goals but again is on pens and also plays in a better team.
