We’ve got a busy day of press conferences ahead of us – and this will be the place to come to get all the relevant Gameweek 9 team news.

There are 16 Premier League managers facing the media on Friday, hopefully clearing up the lingering concerns we have about flagged players.

As ever, we’ll be bringing you the latest key team news updates in this ‘live’ article. Keep checking back throughout the day for the latest updates.

For the headline updates from Thursday’s press conferences (Fulham/Sunderland), head to this article. For a round-up of Wednesday’s pressers (Leeds United/West Ham United), visit this piece.

GAMEWEEK 9: KEY INJURY UPDATES FROM FRIDAY’S PRESSERS

GAMEWEEK 9 PRESS CONFERENCE TIMES

ARSENAL

For the second time in three Gameweeks, Gabriel Magalhaes is set to be flagged going into a deadline.

The Brazilian came off after 71 minutes of the midweek win over Atletico Madrid, with suggestions that he had been stretching his thigh shortly before his substitution.

On Friday, Mikel Arteta confirmed that there was an issue.

“Big Gabi had to leave the pitch with an issue and he hasn’t been able to train yet. So, let’s see how he evolves over the next 24 hours and whether he’s available or not for the weekend.” – Mikel Arteta

Elsewhere, Martin Odegaard (knee), Noni Madueke (knee), Kai Havertz (knee) and Gabriel Jesus (knee) remain on the unavailable list.

Piero Hincapie (groin) returned to the matchday squad in the Champions League.

LIVERPOOL

Jeremie Frimpong (hamstring) is out of Gameweek 9 with the muscle injury he picked up in the midweek win over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Alexander Isak (groin), who complained of discomfort before his half-time withdrawal in the same game, could yet feature, however.

So too could Ryan Gravenberch (ankle), who missed out on Wednesday.

Alisson (hamstring), Jayden Danns (hamstring) and Giovanni Leoni (ACL) remain unavailable, however.

“Jeremie is not in a good place. What I mean by that is he’s definitely not going to play today, tomorrow or next week. Hamstring injury, so that’s going to take a while.

“Alex is not too bad. Question mark for the weekend, so let’s see where he is.

“The same to be said about Ryan. He didn’t travel with us [in midweek]. Today we are in, yesterday we were in as well but we had a day to travel. Let’s see where he is today.

“Alisson is not in the squad tomorrow. That’s also going to take a little bit longer.” – Arne Slot

Wataru Endo was back involved on Wednesday after missing out in Gameweek 8 with an unspecified issue.

Inevitably, Arne Slot was asked about Mohamed Salah‘s form.

“The last thing I worry about is Mo starting to score goals again because that’s what he’s done his whole life and that’s what I expect him to do in the upcoming weeks and months for our club as well.” – Arne Slot on Mohamed Salah

CHELSEA

The Blues have no fresh concerns for the visit of Sunderland.

Enzo Fernandez (knee), who missed out in Gameweek 8, was back involved against Ajax on Wednesday evening. The Argentine midfielder got through a planned 45 minutes at Stamford Bridge.

Joao Pedro missed that Champions League game due to suspension but will be back in Gameweek 9. Malo Gusto is the opposite: he was available for Wednesday’s match but will be banned for the visit of Sunderland.

Cole Palmer (groin), Benoit Badiashile (muscle), Levi Colwill (knee), Dario Essugo (thigh) and Liam Delap (hamstring) remain injured, meanwhile.

Enzo Maresca said on Friday that Delap is aiming for a return next week.

“Liam took part of the session yesterday with the team for the first time. So, he is not going to be available for tomorrow’s game but probably for the next one.

“Yeah, he can be available [for the EFL Cup clash against Wolves next week].” – Enzo Maresca on Liam Delap

As for FPL’s cheapest forward, Marc Guiu, there’s a chance he may be leading the line for the Blues this weekend. Guiu started and scored against Ajax in midweek, coming off at the interval along with other players whose minutes were seemingly being managed.

“Marc is a typical number nine. Physically strong, he is a box player, again he is [born in] ’06, he can improve and he can do many things better and we are working with him every day to help him. As I said many times, he is going to play games with us.

“Then in terms of Joao [Pedro], we know that he can play as a nine or he can play as a 10. In both positions I think Joao is very good but probably when he has another nine next to him, he is playing better.

“We had a chat with Marc two weeks ago, I told him that the way he was training I didn’t like and he needs to change. He changed and he got a chance, so it is like that.

“Since we chat, it’s top, it’s fantastic, it’s working very good.

“Absolutely yes, he’s ready to start [a Premier League game].” – Enzo Maresca on Marc Guiu

Away from team news, Maresca was asked about Enzo Fernandez’s decision to hand Estevao Chelsea’s second penalty of the evening against Ajax. Enzo had scored the first.

“[The team spirit] is very, very good. I told the players after the game that for sure we were very happy about the winning, about the three points against Ajax but the main thing about that game was Enzo, when he gave the ball to Estevao we got to show how is the team in this moment, how they are all together in terms of togetherness, in terms of effort, and this is what we need if we want to try to do something important.” – Enzo Maresca

MANCHESTER CITY

Abdudokir Khusanov (ankle) and Rodri (hamstring) remain out for the trip to Aston Villa.

“The guys who were not able [to play] in Villarreal, still they are not ready.

“I think [Khusanov] is close to coming back but still I think he’s not ready. He has an injury in a dangerous, dangerous position in his body.” – Pep Guardiola on team news

As for Nico Gonzalez (foot), Pep Guardiola couldn’t offer us much new.

“I didn’t see the doctors. We’ll see today and tomorrow how does he feel.

“[It was] something with his feet.” – Pep Guardiola on Nico Gonzalez

The City boss had earlier downplayed the “knock” that Rodri’s replacement picked up in the Champions League this week.

NEWCASTLE UNITED

Sandro Tonali is the one concern for the visit of Fulham.

The Italian was an unused substitute for Newcastle’s clash with Benfica on Tuesday, having been a doubt for the game with illness.

And he’s still “touch and go” for Gameweek 9.

“Everybody has come through [the Benfica game] okay. Obviously, after a game, you’ve got a couple of sore bodies to look at but nothing serious.

“Sandro is still the player we’re monitoring. He did train on Wednesday but didn’t feel 100%, so he’s the one that’s probably touch and go for the game.” – Eddie Howe

On the injury front, Lewis Hall (hamstring), Tino Livramento (knee), Harrison Ashby (thigh) and Yoane Wissa (knee) remain out.

“He will need almost a pre-season. A pre-season schedule that we give to players will be six weeks, and we do that for a reason – so we can build them up and they can play in various games and then they’re ready to perform. So, I’m not saying he won’t play for six weeks but I think to get to his very best level, it’ll probably take that time.

“Firstly, before we get to that stage, we need to get him fully 100% fit and then we can really push him. So, he’s on that road, he’s been to see a specialist yesterday; that was a routine appointment. He’s on track, he’s doing well, so now I think we can push him a little bit harder.

“Still the same [timeline, ie before the November break]. It’s not changed.” – Eddie Howe on Yoane Wissa

“I think Tino is on the grass for the first time today and he’s making really good progress. So, very happy with him.

“Lewis is the same, Lewis is doing really well. He’s been on the grass for a while, he’s been pushing himself, he’s done back-to-back sessions. He’ll be hopefully not too far away.” – Eddie Howe

BOURNEMOUTH

Andoni Iraola has confirmed that Evanilson (calf) is definitely out of this weekend’s match, although the Brazilian striker is hoping to return in Gameweek 10.

Elsewhere, David Brooks (hamstring) has trained the last two days and could be available.

Julio Soler is also back from international duty, while long-term absentee Enes Unal (knee) is now training fully and was given 45 minutes with the development squad in midweek.

“I think Evanilson is going to be definitely out. He’s not going to be able to perform. Brooksy has been training with us last two days so I hope he’s available, so we will win David Brooks. We will recover Julio, because he was with the under 20s of Argentina and after playing the final he came during the week and also we had the good news of Enes playing with the development squad. He played 45 minutes, he is training fully. So also I think it’s good he continues this process and I don’t think we have more news.” – Andoni Iraola

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Cristian Romero (abductor), Destiny Udogie (knee) and Dominic Solanke (ankle) all look set to miss out again this weekend.

“Cuti [Romero], I just saw running on the grass with some of the performance guys. So, positive and progressing. No timeframe but I don’t expect it to be a longer one.

“Destiny is not on the grass yet but still progressing, so again not a longer one.

“Dominic, positive, he’s taking steps in the right direction every day and was on the grass again today, on his own.” – Thomas Frank

James Maddison (knee), Dejan Kulusevski (knee), Yves Bissouma (ankle) and Ben Davies (muscle) are still sidelined, too.

Radu Dragusin (knee) and Koto Takai (foot) have been on the grass recently but it’s unclear just how match-fit they are.

MANCHESTER UNITED

There’s just one United player who definitely won’t feature this weekend: the long-term absentee Lisandro Martinez (knee).

Mason Mount and Harry Maguire are doubts with knocks, however.

“The squad is fine. We have some doubts, we had some issues during the week with Harry Maguire and Mason Mount. Knocks, nothing serious, we will see tomorrow. Licha is out. The rest is ready for the game.” – Ruben Amorim

“He trained really well – not with us, he was on the next pitch and I was watching. He’s feeling really well, the knee is responding well but I don’t want to say a specific week [for his return]” – Ruben Amorim on Lisandro Martinez

CRYSTAL PALACE

Oliver Glasner says it “looks like” his squad have come through last night’s shock UEFA Conference League defeat to AEK Larnaca unscathed.

Chadi Riad (knee) remains a couple of weeks away from a return, while Cheick Doucoure (knee) and Caleb Kporha (back) are still out.

NOTTINGHAM FOREST

Chris Wood (knee) and Dilane Bakwa (unspecified) both missed Thursday’s win over Porto, a match that Oleksandr Zinchenko (muscle) limped out of just before half-time.

Bakwa will definitely be unavailable this weekend, with doubts lingering over the other two.

“Bakwa is going to be a bit longer. With Woody, we are still waiting on news. The injury is settling, but how quick it can settle we are waiting on more news on that.

“We will wait to see how Zinchenko is after coming off. That one is going to be touch and go, I think.” – Sean Dyche

Ola Aina (hamstring) remains sidelined.

ASTON VILLA

We didn’t hear any fresh team news from Unai Emery on Friday but Lucas Digne (ankle) joined Youri Tielemans (calf) and Andres Garcia (unknown) on the sidelines for the disappointing midweek loss to Go-Ahead Eagles. The left-back suffered a deep cut in the win over Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday, so given that it was just a flesh wound, there’S a possibility he may be fine for the weekend.

Elsewhere, Tyrone Mings (ankle) returned to action on Thursday night, with no obvious new concerns picked up in the Netherlands.

BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION

Fabian Hurzeler says that Kauro Mitoma (knock), Joel Veltman (calf) and Brajan Gruda (knee) are “close” to a return.

All of them only have “small issues”, with the Brighton boss adding that “one or two” could be available.

None were spotted in the on-site training gallery but that selection of images did come from earlier this week.

“They’re all close to the team, so maybe one or two of them might be available tomorrow. We really have to go training to training. They don’t have big issues, it’s really small issues they have, nothing serious. We really have to go symptom-adapted. I can’t say that they all will be available, I can’t say that they won’t be available. We have to see really today how it’s going and then we have to make a decision.” – Fabian Hurzeler on Messrs Mitoma, Veltman and Gruda

Hurzeler went one better with Diego Gomez, who was forced off last weekend with a blow to the hip. He is available for selection.

“He will be available, able to start, yes.” – Fabian Hurzeler on Diego Gomez

Jack Hinshelwood (ankle), Adam Webster (knee) and Solly March (knee) remain on the long-term injury list.

EVERTON

Loanee Jack Grealish is available again: he couldn’t face his parent club, Manchester City, at the Etihad last weekend.

On the injury front, this week brought news that Jarrad Branthwaite has “experienced a complication in his recovery from a hamstring injury” and “will undergo a surgical procedure… to address the issue”.

He, along with Nathan Patterson (foot/hernia), remains out, then, but there are no fresh concerns.

“Yeah, it was [disappointing to lose Branthwaite again]. We felt that we had him back, we had him back in full training and expected him to be very close [to being available] for Man City – but he just didn’t feel quite right, so we got it checked and got some work done on it.

“We wouldn’t put a timescale on it – we’ll give him a chance to heal and take his time.

“Patto had a plantar fascia tear in his foot, which he picked up in the under-21s’ game against Bradford City, which is probably going to keep him out for a couple of weeks. In that period, he’s had a little bit of an issue with his hernia, so we’re going to get it tidied up while he’s out with his plantar fascia [tear].” – David Moyes

BRENTFORD

Aaron Hickey (knee) isn’t ready to return after returning from international duty with a knock.

He remains on the injury list with Antoni Milambo, who suffered a season-ending knee injury over the international break.

At the other end of the longer-term absence scale, the injury-free Gustavo Nunes (hamstring) and Paris Maghoma (hamstring) both featured for the under-21s on Tuesday to build their match fitness.

Josh Dasilva rejoined the club until the end of the season this week but remains sidelined.

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS

Hwang Hee-chan (unspecified injury) and Jeanricner Bellegarde (illness) are both available again, having missed last weekend’s loss at the Stadium of Light.

Vitor Pereira added on Friday that Jorgen Strand Larsen, who has struggled with his Achilles this season, has “improved his level” this week.

Leon Chiwome (knee) is still unavailable.

BURNLEY

Lyle Foster (dead leg) is back in contention after returning to training this week.

Jordan Beyer (hamstring), Connor Roberts (knee) and Zeki Amdouni (knee) are on the longer-term injury list.
