Kicking off our Gameweek 15 Scout Notes, it’s the stalemate between Bournemouth and Chelsea.

SENESI INJURY UPDATE

Bournemouth have been haemorrhaging goals of late, so Saturday’s clean sheet was a welcome one. It was a very solid defensive performance, too, in which they restricted Chelsea to zero big chances and 0.92 xG.

Marcos Senesi (£5.0m) not only banked a clean sheet but also his customary defensive contribution (DefCon) points. That’s a league-best 22 such points for 2025/26, now.

injury Senesi

Senesi only just got to the all-important hour mark. Hitting the deck and needing medical treatment in the 57th minute, he attempted to play on before admitting defeat five minutes later.

Andoni Iraola hopes it was just cramp but he’s not 100% sure yet.

“We will have to assess him these days. He was feeling cramps. I have my hopes because he didn’t feel something specific but we have to make sure that there is no small injury there.

“I think we need him. He’s very important for our way of playing. He has played a really good game today and I hope that just the demands of the game physically were so big that he just has felt the cramps in the quad and there is no injury there – but I don’t know.” – Andoni Iraola on Marcos Senesi, in his post-match presser

“Probably we will have to run an MRI or something to see if there is a small injury in the quad but it has happened before to him. It was a very demanding game.” – Andoni Iraola on Marcos Senesi, to BBC Radio Solent

DELAP INJURY GOOD FOR £4.2M FORWARD GUIU?

Chelsea lost a player to injury even earlier in the game.

Liam Delap (£6.2m) came off worst in a tangle with Senesi, with his shoulder giving him plenty of bother as he exited the field.

On came not Joao Pedro (£7.4m) but Marc Guiu (£4.2m), who got almost an hour and didn’t do much worse (faint praise…) than the man he replaced.

If Delap is out for any length of time, it can only boost Guiu’s minutes. With the schedule so busy over December, indeed, it may even lead to the odd start – although it’s worth pointing out that, even when Joao Pedro and Delap were benched against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League recently, Maresca went with Pedro Neto (£7.2m) up top.

“Yeah, unfortunately, he was already out two months and he has to be out again. We don’t know for how long, but it looks quite bad, his shoulder.

“Also, we are a bit unlucky because we need that kind of a No.9. We tried today with Marc [Guiu].” – Enzo Maresca on Liam Delap

PALMER RUSTY + NETO THE LONE THREAT

In truth, Delap and then Guiu were part of a pretty subdued Chelsea attacking performance. This was the first time they hadn’t scored since Gameweek 1, so we’ll maybe let them off.

Cole Palmer (£10.3m) had some mitigation, too: this was his first start since September, so there was some understandable ring rust. He produced a tame shot from outside the box with his one effort of the game, and didn’t see 60 minutes.

We can’t judge him on this fitness-boosting outing – but similarly, he’s not someone who has put himself back on the FPL radar just yet.

“I think it was good. Now I think the target for him is to build the physical condition.” – Enzo Maresca on Cole Palmer’s first start

The only real spark in the Chelsea attack was Neto, and even he wasn’t brilliant. He did, however, create most of the Blues’ key moments. A cross that Marc Cucurella (£6.2m) headed narrowly over. Another delivery that Alejandro Garnacho (£6.4m) nodded against the post. A shot of his own, repelled smartly by Djorde Petrovic (£4.5m). And, in fact, it was from Neto’s run and pass that Palmer’s shot was saved.

So, no return after his recent burst of goals and assists, but he was the likeliest to make something happen.

Above: Players sorted by chances created (CC) at the Vitality on Saturday

SIGNS OF LIFE FROM SEMENYO

Antoine Semenyo‘s (£7.7m) name appears on the above table, too.

Unlike Neto, he hasn’t got the recent form against his name. But like Neto, he was his side’s main instigator on Saturday.

As the FPL exodus continues, this was probably his best performance in months. Lively down the left, he brought two fine saves out of Robert Sanchez (£4.8m), teed Marcus Tavernier (£5.5m) up for a chance that went narrowly wide, and saw a goal chalked off for offside.

Much like last weekend, Semenyo’s owners were left cursing Evanilson (£7.0m). For similar reasons, too: the Brazilian should have held his run for the goal that Semenyo had ruled out, while the profligate forward somehow missed the below chance – even if he was stretching – that would have given the Ghanaian winger an assist.

All in all, Semenyo contributed to eight of Bournemouth’s 13 shots: a game-high five of his own, plus three set up for others.

Iraola interestingly opted for defender Alex Jimenez (£4.5m) as a right-winger on Saturday. The Cherries’ boss effectively said after the match that it was mostly to help combat Chelsea’s attacking strengths, so it’s maybe not an ‘out of position’ experiment we’ll see continued.

MARESCA ON CHALOBAH + FOFANA

Trevoh Chalobah (£5.2m) has still started every Premier League match he’s been available for this season. If it’s security of starts you’re after, he’s probably Chelsea’s best bet at the back.

A clean sheet was supplemented by DefCon and bonus points, so he’s now up to third in the FPL defenders’ points table.

Week-in, week-out starts are certainly not something Wesley Fofana (£4.4m) can offer, as Chelsea seek to protect him. He is Chalobah’s main partner right now, but as Gameweek 14 showed, he’ll frequently drop out of the side to save him from getting injured.

“At the moment, yeah. At the moment, I think in the last four or five clean sheets we had, they were always there. They are doing very good.” – Enzo Maresca on whether Trevoh Chalobah and Wesley Fofana are his first choices

I think I agree with this. It sucks losing value but I don't really need it at this time of the year and Wolves next week is just too juicy. Then bournemouth the week after wiith possible Senesi broken, and even if not, their form is 2 draws and 3 losses in the past 5. They seem to have lost what they had earlier in the season.

        Honestly... Maybe.

Fulhams form is pretty good. 3 wins 2 losses where they beat Spurs and Sunderland, and 4-5 to Man City isn't anything to sniff at either.

But. Crystal Palace next who have the 2nd least amount of goals conceded makes me thing not now.

For Burnley, Forest, West Ham yes, but also Forest and West Ham have improved since new managers so are still bad, but not as bad.

Raul would be a good differential. I'd be tempted.

Correction: Fulham's opponents in GW16 are Burnley. Crystal Palace are their opponents GW15 [Sunday] so you won't face them if transferring in Fulham players this week.

      Hulk this:

Salah's full interview, which has much more nuance and equivocation than the simplified/dumbified quotes that are being promulgated:

What were you thinking sat on the bench? "I don't know what to say. It's funny but I couldn't believe it. It is a really disappointing result for us as a team because we expect to win a game like that.

"We managed to score two goals in the beginning and the game was going in our direction but we conceded silly goals. I'm not attacking my team-mates because I was on the bench, but we conceded silly goals as we did before. We just have to try to keep a clean sheet and win games."

What couldn't you believe? "That I'm sitting on the bench for 90 minutes! The third time on the bench, I think for the first time in my career. I'm very, very disappointed to be fair. I have done so much for this club down the years and especially last season.

"Now I'm sitting on the bench and I don't know why. It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That's how I am feeling. I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame.

"I got a lot of promises in the summer and so far I am in the bench for three games so I can't say they keep the promise.

"I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager and all of a sudden, we don't have any relationship. I don't know why, but it seems to me, how I see it, that someone doesn't want me in the club.

"This club, I always support it. My kids will always support it. I love the club so much. I will always do. I called my mum yesterday - you guys didn't know if I would start or not, but I knew.

"Yesterday I said to them, come to the Brighton game [on 13 December]. I don't know if I am going to play or not, but I am going to enjoy it. In my head, I'm going to enjoy that game because I don't know what is going to happen now.

"I will be in Anfield to say goodbye to the fans and go to Africa Cup of Nations. I don't know what is going to happen when I am there."

What do you do with the situation now? "It is not acceptable for me. I don't know why this is happening to me. I don't get it. I think if this was somewhere else, every club would protect its player. How I see it now is like you throw Mo under the bus because he is the problem in the team now. But I don't think I am the problem. I have done so much for this club.

"The respect, I want to get. I don't have to go every day fighting for my position because I earned it. I am not bigger than anyone, but I earned my position. It's football. It is what it is."

Have you played your last game for Liverpool? "In football you never know. I don't accept this situation. I have done so much for this club."

How frustrated are you? "With respect, I love everyone. I love [Erling] Haaland, I will talk about him. I am the current top goalscorer in the Premier League. He is not yet. He is going to win it hopefully and that is fine for him. I love him and he knows that.

"I am top goalscorer, best player, winning the league in such a style, but I am the one who has to defend himself in front of the media and fans."

Does this hurt you more? "Absolutely. After what I have done for the club it really hurts. You can imagine, really. After going from home to the club and you don't know if you are starting. I know the club too well, I have been here many years. Tomorrow [Jamie] Carragher is going to go for me again and again and that's fine."

Saudi interest? "I don't want to answer this question, because the club is going to take me to a different direction."

Situation impossible now to solve? "I cannot say it is impossible, but from what I feel, I have done so much for the club, I love the fans and the club so much, but I don't know what is going to happen next."

Doubly frustrating that you didn't even come on? "I have been at this club, scoring more than anyone in this generation, since I came to the Premier League, I don't think anyone has scored more goals and made more assists than me. In the whole Premier League. If I am somewhere else, everybody would go to the media and defend the players. I am the only one in this situation.

"I remember a while go, Harry Kane was not scoring for 10 games, everyone in the media was like 'oh, Harry will score for sure'. When it comes to Mo everyone is like 'he needs to be on the bench'. I am sorry Harry!"

When you say about someone wanting you out, who? "I don't know. I don't know. I really don't know."

Sporting director? "No, no, don't put the words in my mouth. From the situation I see that's it."

Had anyone sort of communicated and explain the situation to you. Have you actually asked for that? "I did. I did, but I don't see an explanation. Like I knew yesterday that I was not going to play and that's it, so take it and swallow it and go home."

Were you told personally you weren't going to be playing by Arne? "Yeah, he told me yesterday and had a meeting with him."

Did you let your feelings be known then, you were disappointed? "He knows my feeling. He knows my feeling."

Regret signing that contract? "Imagine how bad that I have to answer it, honestly. That hurts, even the question hurts. This club, signing for this club, I will never regret it. I thought I'm going to renew here and end my career here, but this is not according to the plan, so I'm not regretting signing for the club for sure."

You're one of the greatest players in Liverpool's history. Can you believe it might end like this? "Somehow it will end, but the thing in my head is like why it should end this way? Because I am too fit. Just five months ago I was just winning every individual award so why should it go this direction?

"I'm sorry everybody in a team is not in his form, yet I'm the one has has to defend himself now."

Now is the next step for you to [speak with] Arne again? "No, I don't think so. We spoke a lot."

Has the relationship broken down? "Yeah, there's no relationship between us. "It was very good relationship and now all of a sudden there is no relationship."

Something changed behind the scenes? "You guys know better than me. I don't know."

Do you feel let down from the team-mates as well? "No, no, no. These guys, they know how much I love them. They know how much I support them, even inside before the game, after the game.

"I'm an experienced player, I've been in their position. I always support them, I always give them experience. But no, no, the players they're not connected to the situation. Even they support me so much, so there's just much love between us as players and respect."

Slot isn’t getting sacked. Salah was due to be sold in the summer. Maybe the issues the team have uncovered means they want to sell him in January and reinforce then … but he’s been dropped because he’s not playing well … and Liverpool were 2-0 and then 3-2 up so bringing him on made no sense.

He has "erupted now" because the January transfer window is on the horizon. However that contract he signed in April is a big obstacle around a move. Not too many clubs can afford that kind of money half way through the season.

Brilliant Bennerman - thanks for full details

it appears dishearten & looking for options.

I think to bench him right but slot takes the blame although in his defence
Salah never been asked to defend as his goals / assists have answered the question,
only due to this season results has the spot light fallen on him some I feel wrong due to
          transfers/teams tactics

TA left in the summer - not replaced Jorden Henderson who used to tuck in when
right back when forward. Playing a non right back has been madness & undone the
defence. System should have changed to cover but blame with Slot
& I feel this has unsettled the defence with Konte mind at Real Madrid & Vigil all over the place.

Too many changes when crying out for a holding mid-fielder & Guehi should have come in not Isak.

Statement wrong but one game now & his off - last min to bench as Slot felt his Job could go. A team
that has aged but not replaced.

"" Salah you have been a legend in the Premier League & I for one wish you the best in your future **

Signed a contract, has failed to perform and moreover how he wants to play leaves the right side of the field completely exposed. With the threat of Diaz gone on the other wing teams push up more and he won’t help out.

Needs to take a long look in the mirror while he’s gone.

As I understand it, here's the skinny from Mo: The relationship btwn Mo and Slot has broken down irrevocably. So, it's either Mo or Slot. Hierarchy will have to make their choice, and Mo genuinely doesn't know which way that'll go. Slot sacked, or Mo moved along, if anyone can afford to take him. It's a sad situation, and both Slot and the hierarchy bear much of the responsibility--the former for the tactics and system, the latter for being to slow in the summer window and fkg up reinforcing the backline (Guehi) and, as others have noted, finding a DM on the level of Fernandiho, no disrespect to Gravenberch intended.

        Plink, plink. My two cents.

Additional point: Why did the hierarchy go for Isak when they already had Ekitike? They could've spent that money to get a more stout DM and gotten Guehi over the line.

They lost 3 attackers in the summer

Yes, then buy a left or right winger to deputize for Gakpo, not another 9. On the left wing, they've already got the youngster, Rio.

They picked up Wirtz as a 10, which IMO is a good move; but the back line and the holding DM position, again IMO, are more fundamental and foundational and thus demand more attention and resources than the attack at this point.

Konate has been suspect for some time now, hence the (botched) move for Guehi obv.

TAA's departure and Kerkez's poor integration have caused big problems. Connor Bradley's injury was unfortunate, but Slob's filling in at right back is just ridiculous.

Some of this is down to the hierarchy (head of football ops) and some down to Slot.

Mo's thrown down the gauntlet. We'll see who's more important at this point.

But then they would only have one out-and-out striker - a youngster who's completely new to the league. They're lucky Ekitike's started so well - wouldn't be a surprise to have seen him struggle like Wirtz.

Two strikers was absolutely necessary - the issue was they spent far too much on 2 starting quality players, instead of getting someone a bit cheaper like Strand Larsen or Brobbey. That would have left more budget for a centre-half, and they would have probably been able to get Guehi had they not waited until the 11th hour.

It really reminds me of an Ed Woodward masterclass - spending big money on fancy names instead of plugging the gaps they really needed to. Not like Liverpool at all, but very funny nontheless.

Agreed. Very unlike Liverpool's shrewd business of years past.

In any case, the situation with Mo is very sad.

Is Arsenal defence essential at the moment with Gabriel and Saliba out? Obviously Wolves is a good fixture regardless. I have Timber for that.

Maybe downgrade Enzo to KDH then upgrade Konate, VDV or Diuof to Timber?

He's a left sided CB whilst Saliba and Timber would typically be right sided. I think he's ok till Gab returns. Especially Vs Wolves with Cala banned. Definitely better than Konate.

No, FH not required, unless you want to burn it on punts.

A name like Cash is bound to be a trap

While people are getting him, i’m ditching. He also has afcon soon so beware of that.

Would you make these moves with 4 fts?

Sarr mateta konate diouf > brunoG Thiago timber reinildo

        Sanchez
        Munoz konate thiaw
        Saka Foden Enzo Anderson
        Haaland mateta wolte

        Dub vdv diouf Sarr

I would consider Minteh over Bruno G and Andersen\VDB\Van Hecke over Reinildo.

If set on Bruno G get Esteve or Gudmunsson ie someone without Afcon.

I feel your pain - my bench sums up my season but things
          can only get better

          1st sub Chalobah 11 pts
2nd Sub Van De Ven 6pts
          3rd Sub Rice 6pts (shown 75% injured)

I have owned KDH since GW1 and he has contributed 6 points to my total in that time 2, 2, 1, 1.
          Still glad to have.
