With Gameweek 2 done and dusted already, we’re able to roll out our regular article analysing the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) a little earlier than last week. The idea is to give a roll call of the best performing managers in the Scout league so far, while analysing the current transfer patterns ahead of the weekend’s round of fixtures:

Scout League Standings

Asriel Chen leaps to the top of the Scout league after racking up 101 points in Gameweek 2. Already, he has accrued an incredible 226 points and has established a 12 point gap at the summit. Second overall in FPL, Asriel has his City, Chelsea and Swansea contingents mainly to thank for his outstanding start – captain Carlos Tevez racked up 24 points, while Yaya Toure, Eden Hazard, Fernando Torres, Michu and Angel Rangel returned 57 points between them.

Paul Avery sits in second spot on 214 points – 23rd overall. Notching up a ton of points, he has also recorded back-back three figure scores, with a trio of Swansea and Chelsea players the main protagonists. Rangel, Michu and Danny Graham scored 32 points, while Hazard, captain Torres and Branislav Ivanovic boosted Paul’s haul by 41 points.Darren O’Connor has to settle for joint-third spot after picking up 84 points in Gameweek 3. A solid defensive unit picked up four clean sheets, while Michu (captain), Tevez, Hazard and Graham racked up 53 points between them.

Darren’s total of 211 points is equalled by Renoir Buffon, who leapt up the ranking after a 101 point haul in Gameweek 2. Renoir’s side has a couple of differentials compared to the other contenders – Ali Al-Habsi and Steven Pienaar both registered 10 points apiece, with the usual suspects such as Hazard, Tevez, Torres and Toure all chipping in with points aplenty. Mithun Nair completes the top five, despite harbouring a certain Aleksandar Kolarov amongst his ranks. Captain Tevez, along with Torres, Toure, Pienaar, Shinji Kagawa and Nathan Dyer helped him to 87 points in the Gameweek gone by. The average of our top five managers means we are currently number one in the “Best Leagues”, with 214.4 points on the board.

For the Contributors, Anorak takes over top spot this week. Rafael and Ivanovic both played a part defensively, Toure, Kagawa and Michu supplied the points from midfield, with Tevez and Torres doing the damage up front. Anorak currently sits on 170 points overall – 12,601 in the rankings.

The Market Trends

Michu continues to lead the way for transfers in, with over 139,000 Fantasy managers snapping up the Spaniard after he registered 28 points in his opening two matches. The Swansea midfielder has already risen by 0.5 since the start of the season as we scramble to get a piece of the action ahead of a run of games which sees Michael Laudrup’s men play four home matches in the next six Gameweeks. With form and fixtures on his side, the bandwagon shows little sign of slowing – the same applies to Michu’s team mate Nathan Dyer, with over 50,000 bringing in the winger after another assist in the 3-0 win over West Ham highlighted his cut-price potential. Angel Rangel is another big climber after his goal against the Hammers – over 67,000 Fantasy managers have picked up the right-back since the end of Gameweek 2.

With a blank Gameweek on the horizon for Chelsea, 11,000 have transferred out Eden Hazard. On the other hand, the Belgian’s three consecutive double figure points hauls have acquired him over 128,000 new suitors – similarly, Fernando Torres has earned plenty of investment, with over 83,000 managers picking up El Nino. As wildcards are wielded as a result of injuries to the likes of Sergio Aguero and Wayne Rooney, Torres offers a cheaper option to the Manchester duo, while many feel they simply can’t afford to sit back and watch Hazard’s price continue to escalate; he sits at 9.8 with another rise imminent.

Back-to-back goals from Marouane Fellaini has brought the Everton midfielder plenty of attention ahead of a trip to West Brom. Over 101,000 Fantasy managers have clambered aboard the bandwagon, with the Belgian rising 0.2 to 6.7 since the start of the season. Unsurprisingly, the Aguero and Rooney injuries have had a major knock-on effect on Carlos Tevez and Robin Van Persie. The pair look strong captaincy options for the weekend – Tevez entertains QPR and Van Persie travels to Southampton; so far, they’ve received a combined total almost 206,000 transfers in, with Tevez already up to 9.4 from 9.0 after picking up 18 points in the first two Gameweeks.

No surprise, them, to see Rooney as the most transferred out player this week. Over 197,000 have parted company with the United man after his thigh injury at the weekend – bearing in mind that Aguero is second with 52,000, the Rooney exodus is clearly dramatic and has produced an upturn in ownership for Shinji Kagawa as squads are reassembled – the Japanese star has been drafted in by almost 43,000 ahead of a trip to Southampton and home clash with Wigan.

Elsewhere, aside from Hazard, the Chelsea midfielders are being deserted by considerable numbers. Ramires, Juan Mata, Frank Lampard and Victor Moses have a combined tally of over 132,000 transfers out, with 44,000+ getting rid of Ramires alone. John Terry and Ashley Cole are also victims of the blank Gameweek – a total of 55,000 have shipped the defensive duo, while Man City’s rotation at the back, allied with a lack of clean sheets, is causing plenty concern – Vincent Kompany, Joleon Lescott and Gael Clichy have all seen significant sales ahead of the QPR match.

Can't believe I am seeing people ON HERE talking about "doing without" RVP! Did last season teach you nothing? And now in a superior team. And, for the foreseeable future, back on pens.

RVP is now in a superior team, but long term he is liable to be rested and rotated. This did not happen at arsenal. I think there are better value strikers out there for less then 13m.
I can name you two definite starters for 12m in total that (combined) will both outscore RVP
      Petric and Graham!

Urgent advice needed on one specific point:

    Current team for GW3:

    Jaaskelainen (Cerny)
    Hangeland, Jenkinson, Rangel (Ivanovic, Gorkks)
    Britton, Toure, Bale, Kagawa, Michu
    RVP, Tevez (Pog)

Have only made one transfer per week so far. Am gonna go Bale to Hazzard. Question is, do it for GW3 (and incur a hit, plus can only field 10 players this week), or wait till GW4, this saving points, but also risking massive price rise from Hazzard.

    Ta!

      So it's

      a) points hit, maximum of 10 men this week, selling Bale who is home to Norwich; or
      b) pay 0.1 or maybe 0.2 if you're unlucky extra for Hazard.

      I would do a)

ok my thoughts on the United game

Overall once United woke up they controlled the game until the almighty feck up that let Fulham back into tt. That seemed to make the crowd nervous, which transmitted to the players which seemed to make them retreat further back and allowed Fulham a route back into the game, with Dembele wresting control of the midfield battle. In the end United rode their luck a little, but just deserved the win. Thoughts on the players.

DDG - Some fantastic shot stopping that ultimately won United the game. Still shacky on occasion as the mix up showed, but he has hardly played with Vidic and it will take time to develop an understanding. He will get better at the crossing and command part of his game as he bulks up and learns more English. The defence will get there

Rafa - Great going forward, but still suspect defensively, it was his mis-placed pass that led to the opening goal. But he is young and he is Brazilian. I expect to keep his place for the time being, at least until Smalling returns (I can see Jones being used as a defensive mid)

Vidic - Has clearly lost a lot of bulk, whether this is due to lack of training or a deliberate act designed to reduce the weight on his knee I don't no, but he is not as big, he was dwarfed by Brede. He doesn't yet look back to his best and is not the goal threat he once was, though this may change when he gets a regular cb alongside him as he seemed to take the responsibility of staying back and allowed Carrick to move forward

Carrick - Although he hasn't been bad, he's clearly wasted as a cb, hopefully Evans can take the cb role this weekend and Carrick can take Ando's spot.

Evra - His best game for a while, he looks as he is responding to the threat of Buttner.. He got forward well, but showed more energy and desire than he does for a while in tracking back and doing his defensive job. Amazing what a bit of competition can do

Valencia - What a waste he was at rb. He gave Briggs a torrid time and looked dangerous until Fulham took control. Plenty of crosses and full of running. Hopefully he will continue in this form, but once his price drops to 8.5 his returns will match his performances. Please Fergie, don't put him at rb again.

Anderson - He started brightly and tried to get stuck in but faded as the game went on, I maintain that he is wasted in the role he is given. We bought him on the back of some dynamic attacking performances, so why we use him deep is beyond me. He can be greatm but I think his time may be up

Cleverley - I may get castigated for saying this, but I was impressed with him. He was consistently finding space to be available for pass, was always looking to move the ball forward and drove forward whenever he could. You could tell what a big part he was in our early form last year. Cleverley and Carrick should start the Saints match in midfield if possible.

Young - Other than his cross for Rafa he didn't actually offer very much. That being said he is still better than Nani, I would start him next game but tell him it's his last chance

Kagawa - Truly brilliant. Just what United have been lacking, a dynamic attacking mid. He was making runs, always looking to move forward, didn't give it away, showed Scholesesque qualities for the goal. He could be the key player this season. Plus his comments about United passing it sideways too much were bang on the money.

RvP - Aside from the goal, and taking set-pieces he didn't do much, though some of his hold up play and link play, especially with Kagawa and Clevs was impressive. but he was bought to score goals and did it brilliantly. Welbeck and Rooney would have looked to pass in that position

I was there and this is a brilliant analysis of the game. Well done pal. Agree on every point. Not sure why you thought you'd be castigated for giving cleverley a glowing report though. For me he has been our best player along with kagawa of course for the first two games. If he stays injury free, i have a feeling he's going to get better and better and could be a very good pick this season.

Erm...Let me have a think...Yes would be my answer to that question. A big fat massive YES. World class striker, kagawa feeding him through balls, he's going to become as big a legend at united as ruud van niistelrooy. Met him at his medical, got my shirt for my lad signed, scored a great goal on saturday, when he's properly match fit, because he isn't quite there yet, watch him go. 20-30 goals this season, not even a doubt in my mind. 🙂

Nice to see you are so confident, he should be back to a decent level of fitness after International break. I honestly didn't think he would start against Fulham beacause he had no pre season but I should know by now you never second guess Fergie. Kagawa looks like a real class act, been impressed with his first two showings. He always wants the ball.

Yeah i have been nothing but impressed with kagawa. Watching him saturday for the first time up close, he reminded me so much of scholes, constantly making space for himself to recieve the ball, pass and move, pass and move, constantly on the move, looking for runners, making dummy runs himself to pull fulham defenders out of position. A brilliant display and he will be our main man this season for creativity. I have no doubt that RVP will be a revelation at united, providing he stays fit, the more they play together, the more effective they will be. And the sooner we get some central defenders back the better!

I think I am going to suck up the price drop and stick with Valencia.

He will rise again soon enough.

Then that will mean me playing Valencia and Torres for my Utd and Chelsea coverage against the masses.

When aguero comes back I may even just sell teves and go rvp, Torres and graham. In the hope ag and tev just share points. But I hate getting people out when I've made a bit of money on them. Anyone thought about this?

if tevez is in form, you transfering him out doesn't automatically mean he stops scoring goals. You have to make the decision on form, not on blind hopes. especially if you've got tevez in early, he looks amazing value. he can easily be the highest scoring player altogether come the end of season, he is that good.

I have decided against a 4 pointer for RVP and will stick with Kags for the next few GWs.

As a result I am looking to rid my team of Cole or Torres. My team is linked and I would appreciate thoughts on the following options.

    a) Cole to Saylor/Rangel

    b) Torress to Ade

    c) Cole and Torres to Baines and Ade

All options would likely be followed by Nasri to Hazard.

    Many thanks

Guys, I'm on my WC and I'm having a tinker with my team. I'm looking at Jenkinson and Betrand. Both are outstanding value at 4.5. What's the chances of them getting regular gametime. Presumably Jenkinson is starting because Koscielny is injured, but how about Betrand playing oop?

Jenkinson isn't playing because Koscielny's injured, it's more because of Sagna, who could be back next week, bit risk having him.

Not nailed on at all. Ramires will play allot of games. And Cole is always playing.
I'm thinking that all of my players should play all the games. So therefore I don't fancy Bertrand in my team.

Not sure that QPR is a good game for Yaya. If City are comfortable, he'll just sit back and pass the ball to death. The only way he'll be getting into the box is when they're chasing the game.
