Sir Alex Ferguson has handed Fantasy managers a major boost this morning by revealing Robin Van Persie will be fit to face Wigan tomorrow afternoon. The Dutchman was subbed off at half-time by Louis Van Gaal in his nation’s 4-1 win over Hungary on Wednesday and with no official club statement, many had feared the worst.

Hardly known for his quick healing powers, Van Persie’s availability is of significant news this weekend, with a substantial majority expected to hand him the captaincy ahead of the Latics clash. With four goals in his first two starts for United, Van Persie has wasted little time in maintaining his outstanding scoring record in the Premier League and with Wayne Rooney still absent due to a thigh injury, Ferguson – like many of us – will be heavily reliant on his summer signing from Arsenal to continuing his scoring spree tomorrow.

Ferguson confirmed at this afternoon’s eagerly-awaited press conference:

On the injury front, everyone’s fit….You always have concerns about players travelling [long distances] in international breaks – we had Chicharito, Valencia and Kagawa. They’ve all done it before, although with Shinji we don’t know exactly how he reacts to travelling back from long distances. Hopefully he’ll be okay.

As the fixture schedule now starts to pick up, Ferguson certainly doesn’t need to take any unnecessary risks. United face Galatasaray at Old Trafford next Wednesday before embarking on a tricky run of league matches which sees them travel to (liv, new, che) and a certain degree of rotation up top can be expected, with the likes of Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez set to pick up more game time over the next few weeks. For now, though, Ferguson’s words have soothed us and offered plenty assurance – we can forge ahead with our Fantasy plans for the weekend with confidence renewed.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

No he's confirmed it 100% for this week, last time as a flippant mark in the post-match questions and could have changed.

Friedel this week - Lloris in a couple of games. We have the rare luxury of not needing to rush.

I'm not sure Dempsey will start this week but after that I think he'll alternate between wide right cutting in for home games and CAM when away.

So my 100-1 bet for the weekend. Has to be worth a cheeky £5. Swansea at 2/1 away to Villa is excellent odds IMO

    Man City @ 8/11
    Stoke v Man City

    Chelsea @ 3/4
    QPR v Chelsea

    Man Utd @ 1/4
    Man Utd v Wigan Athletic

    Swansea @ 2/1
    Aston Villa v Swansea

    Arsenal @ 4/11
    Arsenal v Southampton

    Sunderland @ 9/4
    Sunderland v Liverpool

    Tottenham @ evens
    Reading v Tottenham

AVB: We have world class players that we're looking to fine tune.

Seriously? I can't find anyone other than Bale. Modders was definitely class and VDV had the ability to produce some world-class performances.

      You have Bale?

      Abort, abort!

But seriously, picking an out of form player will almost always lead to disappointment.

        Don't agree.

There's a difference between a decent performer in an out-of-form team (= yet to gel) and an out-of-form player. Having said that, you don't get FPL points for a decent performance but there's no denying Bale's potential.

      Both really strong sides.

A for me as Hazard over Bale any day and Fletcher over Torres as I don't think you need to Chelsea double up. Would prefer Cuellar over Davies but A over B for sure.

Im in a similar predicament, and have just come up with:

      Foster/Bego
      Baines/Hughes/Cuellar/Demel/Davies
      Cazorla/Hazard/Dyer/Mclean/Guthrie
      RvP/Tevez/Jelavic

I havn't seen much Mclean love, is there a reason i dont know of? AJ plays on the opposite wing right?

exact two transfers I was looking at for hits. If cole was injured I was going to take Baines, so I have settled to leave it this week. Kagawa to Cazorla was the plan if he was out, but SAF is saying hes ok. I dont think he will play myself, but who knows. It is tempting, but will that hit pay off? if his next two fixtures were better I would say yes.

Anyone considering Maloney as a differential after this weekend? On free kicks and pens in Gomez's absence (can't see him in the starting 11 even if fit), only 5.0m and Wigan are a different breed in this formation to the beginning of last season's whipping boys...
