634x258 Suspensions

Four players fell foul of the five-yellows limit in Gameweek 20, with Gareth Bale the most high profile protagonist to earn a one-match suspension ahead of a home match with Reading. West Ham pair Kevin Nolan and James Collins also sit on the naughty step for their game against Norwich at Upton Park, as does Bradley Johnson of Norwich City…

Despite seeing red on Saturday, Steven Nzonzi will be available for Stoke’s trip to City after the club lodged an appeal for wrongful dismissal last weekend. The midfielder was set to serve a three-match suspension for a challenge on Southampton’s Jack Cork but he’ll take his place in a likely rearguard effort at City in tomorrow’s clash.

Conflicting reports surround Samir Nasri’s availability. The Frenchman was handed a straight red for his “headbutt” attempt on Norwich’s Seb Bassong at the weekend – while the local press reported the club had decided to appeal, the Mail, however, have suggested that City won’t appeal. Earlier today, Roberto Mancini admitted he was uncertain whether the club would take any action – a three-match ban would see the Frenchman miss an FA Cup clash with Watford and league trip to former club Arsenal, in addition to the Potters’ clash.

The New Year brings a little more leeway now, with the Suspension Tightrope loosening considerably. Players now have to accrue 10 yellow cards to trigger an automatic suspension – if they reach that landmark by the second Sunday in April (Gameweek 33), they will be handed a two-match ban. So far, there are five players just three bookings away from – Luis Suarez, James Perch, Angel Rangel, Craig Gardner and Mark Noble have all received seven cautions apiece. Our sidebar widget has been updated accordingly and will be tracking all the way through to the April 14 date.

Elsewhere this week, Marouane Fellaini returns to the Everton fold for a trip to Newcastle after completing a three-match ban, while Mike Williamson will be hoping to help shore up the Magpies defence after he sat out the 7-3 loss at Arsenal due to a one-match ban. Stoke will be relieved Ryan Shawcross and Geoff Cameron are back in contention for the trip to City, having conceded three at home to Southampton in the duo’s enforced absence at the weekend. Fabian Delph is available for Villa once again, as Paul Lambert tries to address his side’s woeful form as they head to Swansea tomorrow.

It's going to take a team disintegration of major proportions before i do the Bale swap this week and get him back next week. Just seems like a waste of a transfer.....

If Michu is out I am thinking of going Michu > Hazard/Oscar & Enrique to Walker. I will make a £0.5,m l profit on the sale and his price could drop in the meantime....

Is my thinking logical or flawed?

Interesting choice that - the short-list was Walker, Naughton, Vert, Azpilicueta....

I don't see a cleansheet in sight for Everton although Jags has the potential goalscoring prowess...

Logical. But doubt his price will fall sharply. I bought for 7.6 but I can't afford to lose any value before WC.

Not entirely sure how the prices and profit work but is a profitable when on a WC to just keep on bringing in players who are rising that night until the final day of ur WC then obviously selecting the team u want in the end?

Neither am I normally. Annoyingly, most of the ones I've taken this year have cost me more points and the ones I haven't done (like Walcott the other day) would have paid off handsomely.

By the way, I've taken a hit this week but its not New Year yet.

Did Bale actually dive? Personally, I don't think it was a dive, but it wasn't a penalty either, as he went down far too easily.

But that happens so much. From the amount of times I've heard the phrase 'he was looking for it', you'd think everyone would be booked every time. But I bet in the majority of cases, players can stay on their feet but don't because they feel contact, and the penalty is usually given. Is that a dive?

So are we assuming Michu means he's returned to the squad, or returned to the starting 11?

Late fitness test is not good, as we won't know until KO

it says return to the team, I am guessing if he fit enough he will start. Laudrup said he wanted him 100% so if he wasn't he wouldn't even be in squad

Pienaar has been so much better in real and FPL terms since Fellaini has been out.

Who does everyone here think is the better prospect for January's nice run of fixtures for Everton?

Ideally of course they both continue to play well and score. It just doesn't seem to me to be the way it's gone so far

Anyone think the Ruiz "goal" stood for Ruiz (Berbatov assist) due to the popularity of Berbatov amonf FPL players and the absence of Reicher popularity in FPL teams...............

Had Ruiz's shot hit off Berbatov before going in, i have a feeling goal would have been credited to Berba..............

That's kinda my point.............Press association more likely to overlook someone like Reicher whereas if it had hit someone like eg RVP/Suarez then the Press Assoc would have been more likely to change...............
