634x258 The Stock Check

A disappointing Monday night affair saw Southampton dominate the opening period, only to concede ground in the second-half as Everton gained superiority. With little on show for Fantasy managers, here’s the Monday night Stock Check…

On the Up

The Southampton Defence
A second clean sheet in the last three maintained the form of the much-improved Saints rearguard. With Artur Boruc making several key saves, he is presenting a seemingly assured budget option in goal for a 4.4 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) price tag, while both Luke Shaw and Nathaniel Clyne go on offering value for their 4.0 valuations.

Leighton Baines
In truth, the service from the Toffees left-back was not up to its usual standard but, having gained his second consecutive clean sheet, Baines delivered returns and, pre-bonus, is now just six points of the top of the FPL defender rankings. With West Brom and Villa at Goodison in the next two, further profits look on the cards for those who have kept the faith.

Going Down

Marouane Fellaini
It’s no goal in his last five starts for the towering Belgian. More significantly perhaps, the injury to Seamus Coleman forced a reshuffle that saw David Moyes shift him back to a deeper central midfield role and introduce Victor Anichebe up front. With Kevin Mirallas looking bright from the bench on his return from injury, Moyes has further attacking options and there will be slight concerns that the Everton boss may consider a change of position for Felliani having seen his side draw consecutive blanks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

As an FPL manager Jenkinson might be more of a problem than a solution. As a Gooner I think it might be worth giving him a go.

      A. He definitely should, I don't know why he hasn't already.
      B. Nastasic (I think Azpi's place will be under threat when Terry returns). Nasta also a rotation threat but City have better fixtures and a better def.

Schneiderlin might get the max BPs tonight. He was Saints' best player. 2 BPs for Lambo and 1 for Fellaini or Bainesy I reckon. Oh how I would love Clyney to get at least 1 BP

Please use your influence to get a better system. I'm sure this has been said a million times but...

Surely the whole reason for bonus points is to reward players who played well but didn't score or assist. At present it is just just an extra boost for players who have done just that.

    Here it is
Jagielka 3, Fellaini 2, Coleman 1, Boruc 1 (in the mix Hooiveld, Ramirez, Anichebe)

OK, I’m assuming there were murmurs about the Suarez 3 yesterday. Fair enough, please also remember however I put the following below my predicitions: “I think as little as 5 ppi could seperate 3bps and 0bps in the Liverpool match” and “it’s such a tight game I wouldn’t rule anything out, and I mean anything, 3,2,1,0.” Well Suarez on 3 got 37 and Sturridge on 0 got 32. I’d rather be the guy who predicts Suarez 0 when he gets 3 than the guy who predicts Suarez 3 when he gets 0.

Thoughts on tonight as a Baines owner and a non Afro owner.

Baines wasn't at his best but nor were Everton. Fortunate to get the CS but Evs will not be as rotten as that again. Definite improvement second half and his complete monopoly on corners and FKs bodes well. Home games against West Brom and Villa coming up - I can't bring myself to get rid. Plus he's got a wicked haircut

Think this may have exposed Everton's top four pretensions to be honest. I didn't think they were great against Newcastle and the first half tonight was abysmal. Distin's + Jag's distribution was shocking, Naismith was a passenger, Peanuts was awful, less said about Jelly the better. Fell was probably the best player on the pitch and I think Moyes might be tempted to start with him in CM against the Baggies. It's a toughie - if he continues to play in the hole then he offers outstanding value for 7.6 but the temptation to splurge a bit more for Walcott and his inconsistency is tempting.

Interested in what other peeps think?

WBA VILLA manu nor REA might make my mind up though,

I agree with you. Fellaini is so good in the CDM position that Moyes felt he can shore the team up as Saints were pushing on. He played deep even before Coleman went off. I think Moyes will occasionally drop him deeper to shore up things and then push him back up.

11 points between the two of them for the last two games, I will keep for the time being.

Distin's distribution and general use of the ball is hopeless, but he's a good defender.

Baines gone for me after the next two, never to see my team again. I need the quiet life.

Fellaini will stay for the next 5, position dependant.

I don't think Jelavic is totally to blame. I think the main issue with Everton is that they are not dominating the final third like they were earlier in the season.

If your are not getting much of the ball in final third, you really got to make the most of your chances.

Trouble is, Fellaini is both Everton's best central midfielder and their best centre forward. Moyes chose to sacrifice the latter for the former. He won't do that much longer but is clearly aware of hos lack of depth and the danger of a post Christmas slide.

Benched Fellaini and was fearing the worst but even if he gets the 3 BAPS all 7 I started ahead of him outscored or equalled 6

I'll never do it again marouane
