Aaron Lennon has returned to full training for Spurs ahead of the trip to Wigan. Gary Cahill and Ashley Cole are included in Chelsea’s squad to face FC Basel, Tony Pulis fears Marc Wilson could be out for the season, James Milner is hopeful of returning for Man City this weekend, while Michael Laudrup reveals Swansea’s focus on defence ahead of games against three of the top four:

Spurs were handed a boost ahead of this weekend’s trip to Wigan after Aaron Lennon returned to training yesterday. The winger has failed to feature since picking up a knee problem in the Europa League home clash with FC Basel three weeks ago but, after narrowly failing to recover in time for Sunday’s win over City, now looks set to return to the Spurs XI for the DW encounter. When available, Lennon has been an automatic pick under Andre Villas-Boas; he started the first 28 Gameweeks before being briefly sidelined with a hamstring tweak and his comeback now places question marks over the Tottenham midfield ahead of the double Gameweek 33. If Villas-Boas rolls out the 4-3-3 formation that finished the win over City, Lennon and Gareth Bale can be expected to take the wide roles, placing doubts over Gylfi Sigurdsson and Clint Dempsey’s game time. Alternatively, the latter two are perhaps more likely to battle it out for a role on the left of a 4-2-3-1, with Bale tucking in behind a lone forward and Lennon installed on the right.

James Milner is optimistic of a quick return to action for City this weekend. The midfielder was forced off with a hamstring injury in last week’s loss at Spurs but speaking to his club’s official website, he has revealed:

“I had a tight hamstring and as frustrating as it was to come off, I think it was the right decision. Obviously we were 1-0 up at White Hart Lane when I went off and it was such a big game so you want to play every minute you can. But I think it was the right decision to come off, if I had stayed on the pitch I might have torn my hamstring and been out for the rest of the season. I’ve done some work with the physios the past few days.. I’m hoping to get back into training and hopefully be fine for the weekend which is obviously a positive.”

Milner had teed up Samir Nasri for City’s opener at the Lane and has also grabbed a goal against United in the last three Gameweeks. With a double just around the corner, he’s starting to blink on Fantasy radars – coming in at 6.1 in FPL and with a 0.8% ownership , Milner has started 10 of the last 13 league fixtures for Roberto Mancini’s side and could well be worth consideration as a Gameweek 36 differential if he can prove his fitness.

Michael Laudrup has revealed Swansea’s approach in Saturday’s goalless draw with Southampton was designed specifically to prevent the Saints from creating many chances after a recent run of poor defensive displays:

“I said that to the team before the Southampton game that we had conceded two goals in each of the last four games, even at home, and we should have the mentality to keep a clean sheet. We always create chances, but if we have a bad day in front of goal and we defend well it is 0-0. But if we concede one or two goals we will need two or three to win and that is too much to ask. That’s what’s happened in the previous four games, so to get a clean sheet was a big positive.”

Having picked up their first clean sheet in five attempts, Swansea now face a daunting schedule, with games against Chelsea and United on either side of a double Gameweek that hands them a home clash with City before travelling to Wigan. From a Fantasy perspective, it’s debatable whether a defensive-minded approach will prove fruitful against three of the current top four – if Laudrup intends on keeping things tight, however, Michu’s owners may be a little concerned. The Spaniard had notched in back-to-back matches prior to last weekend and, having scored against United and Wigan already this term, in addition to netting away to Chelsea in the Capital One Cup, will be confident of returning to goal scoring form should Laudrup afford him a little more offensive freedom.

Chelsea’s defensive injury worries are starting to ease after Ashley Cole and Gary Cahill were included in the squad to face FC Basel in the first leg of tonight’s Europa League semi-final. While this is good news for the Blues as they battle for European silverware and a third place finish, the pair’s return is set to further muddy the waters when it comes to double Gameweek 36, with increased competition for places at the back under Rafa Benitez. The duo have missed the last four league matches due to hamstring and knee problems respectively but with Benitez revealing “they are both fine†and will train ahead of tonight’s match, Fantasy managers may be thinking twice over opting for David Luiz due to Cahill’s return, with John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic also in the frame at centre-half. Cole, however, had played all but one league under Benitez but has failed to flourish going forward, producing just one assist since the Spaniard arrived last November.

Tony Pulis has admitted Marc Wilson and Matt Etherington are both doubtful for this weekend’s home game with Norwich, amid concerns that the duo may not feature again this season:

“Both of them are having intensive treatment and it’s a case of keeping everything crossed for them. They are clearly a concern, and at this stage we don’t know when, or if, they will be back. They have been a miss, there’s no denying that.”

Wilson continues to be plagued with a hamstring injury which has curtailed his game time over the last few matches. Subbed off after 51 minutes of the Gameweek 32 defeat by Villa with the problem, the left-back missed the following league match but returned for last weekend’s win over QPR only to limped off after 61 minutes after suffering a recurrence of the injury. With the likes of Andy Wilkinson and Geoff Cameron offering cover at left-back, Pulis certainly has no reason to rush Wilson back for this weekend’s home clash with Norwich.

After Luis Suarez’s 10-match ban was announced yesterday, Liverpool were dealt another blow after it was revealed Steven Gerrard will require shoulder surgery over the summer. The Reds skipper has been bothered with the problem for a number of weeks but is set to finish the final four games of the season before going under the knife and could be joined in this weekend’s squad to face Newcastle by Fabio Borini, who returned to full training earlier this week. The Italian has been plagued with injuries in his debut season on Merseyside but has recovered from a shoulder dislocation and may be handed a sub role against the Magpies, according to Liverpool coach Mike Marsh:

“It has gone really well. He’s been involved in training for the last week or so, non-contact. He had the all-clear from the surgeon and joined in during the last couple of days and it’s looking really good. He might be included on the bench at the weekend, it might be the week after. He’s coming to the time when he can be included off the bench pretty soon. We’ve hardly been able to use him so it will be like an extra player. We’re looking forward to that.”

Would have to do a 4 pointer next week. Kone and Hart would be ideal but as you say, finding a way for this to work is a challenge. Would be helpful if we knew how much gametime RVP is going to get.

    Suarez is not a racist.

Evra was winding him up (as Evra does to everyone) & he responded by telling him to f**k off, he did use the N word, but that doesnt make a person a racist.

Simply calling someone a name, when they are provoking you, does not mean you are a racist.

If a non-white person called me a white boy in the heat of the moment, I wouldnt start crying & accusing him of being a racist.

    Actual racism is unacceptable.

The race card is over-played & boring if you ask me.

    I love you Suarez

I actually agree with the first point, I just think he is that unintelligent and borught up in a way to not know that it is offensive. On the other hand he must be constantly in heat as he did it on numerous occasions throughout the game.

Ignorance is not an excuse. I don't even think that is the case though. He knows it's offensive otherwise he wouldn't have said it. It was used to provoke Evra so he knew exactly what he was doing.

I think it's easy to hide behind cultural differences. I don't think he is the sharpest tool in the shed but he is definitely a tool and knows how to be nasty to someone as we all do.

And if you play for Ajax you become well aware of racism in the form of antisemitism. It's not as if he is a sheltered kid from Uruguay thrown into the spotlight and doesn't know how to act.

The "numerous occasions" issue is the whole crux of the problem, as that is disputed and there is no evidence that he did. In fact, the evidence points to his version of events being more likely. I know people (and I'm not saying you) like to stick their fingers in their ears when it comes to that point.

    @Shaylan

Most full backs have high assist threat but minimal goal threat as they mainly cross from wide but are rarely in the box. There are exceptions; Baines, Rafael, GJ etc. Vermaelen, Vertonghen, Agger and other good ball playing CBs often make penetrating runs though the opposition midfield right into the box, which obviously leads to a definite goal scoring opportunity. Here's a video of Vertonghen's goal against Swansea. His assist for Bale's goal was from a similar run.

Anyone posted this yet? From the BBC Sport website:

"Lewandowski could have signed for Blackburn in the summer of 2010 for £4.3m from Polish side Lech Poznan. He was due to hold talks with then Rovers boss Sam Allarydce but the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud forced the cancellation of his flight. Two months later, the striker signed for Dortmund. Allardyce instead bought Croatian Nikola Kalinic for around £6m. "

If any team had signed him up for their youth team he wouldn't have cost them anything. It doesn't mean Lew would have stayed and become the player he is now.

For minus 8-12pts you could have 9-10 DGW players, and rinse them out with the wildcard and set yourself up for the run in. That's what I'd do.

      Something like:

      DDG> Hart
      Enrique>Kolarov
      Walcott>Hazard
      RVP>Tevez/Aguero
      Cisse>Defoe/Ba/Kone

Kone might have to come in to reduce funds. There are four or five players needed and regulalry being discussed.
My feeling is that this might not be such a bad time to play the wc.

my defence for this week is poor:

GJ (new) Sagna (MUN) Samba (rdg) [davies, demel]

can anyone suggest a move that is worth a 4 point hit? or shall i wait for next week?

Can you afford Johnson to Vertonghen / Kompany for a hit? Don't think I'd consider it otherwise.

money no issue - 4.8 M in the bank. already have hart (so can double up with company but risky) and not sure if vert can score 4 points more than GJ - neacastle are pretty tooth less recently.

So I've been playing around with the stats tables and comparison tool to try and find any argument for buying Defoe instead of Lukaku, but regardless of which time period I look at Lukaku smashes Defoe in almost every aspect even with fewer minutes played per appearances (early on in season).

So what it boils down to then is if there is enough value in the fact that Spurs still have more to play for. And I don't think it is.

So.. anyone in the Defoe camp?

Defoe is rubbish. But he does score which is the only requirement of fpl. We are not here to judge

his goal per minutes ratio is second to none. harry barely played him a few season back yet he came on and did the business. also that was hardly poaching against city! he 's got some amazing individual goals this season, many starting from runs well outside the box. he gets a lot of crticism yet adabayor has been a joke this season. the one thing he is supposed to do is hold up the ball and he cant even manage that.

No, i think Bale is enough attacking coverage from Spurs.

Still trying to pick 2 from Tevez, Lukaku and Kone to go alongside Robin though. Headache material.

motivation is a huge part of sport. you see a lot of flat at this stage of the season and its generally amongst those teams who are safe/won the league already qualified for europe. swans 00 with saints was first alarm bell for me, especially having michu.

I definitely think there is a real case for Swansea having switched off a bit too. Still unsure whether that is or will be the case of WBA, I wish somebody had looked at this last season and noted how the teams with nothing to play for performed.

Defoe for me .. I'm a firm believer that stats only tell part of the story.

Watching Defoe last week when he came on was enough to convince me he is a great option. Adebayor was so ineffective that if Defoe doesn't start, it's a travesty.

That said, I've gone for Ba this week with a view to getting Defoe for Lambert next week 😉

I just figure he's a shoe in to start Vs Swansea (nothing to play for) with Torres playing vs Liverpool last week and vs Basel tonight. He then surely plays at least one in the DGW, injury pending.

This worries me about Tevez and Lukaku too. I wouldn't surprise me to see them just playing 1 of the 2 games in the DGW. Kone seems the only nailed on striker for the DGW.

                  This is getting messy.

Kone seems the most nailed on but the least interesting looking at the stats. I've probably not watched WBA and Wigan enough to trust my own judgement on how dangerous these two are.

I think Defoe's 1-dimensional-ness might get him dropped again for Ade (if he's even picked ahead of him in the 1st place). So I don't like him as a target.
I like Lukaku a lot - and Clarke *could* get a reaction out of West Brom after letting them slip - but the fact is they don't have it all to play for so they will naturally have flat games.
I've ruled them both out because of that and much more in favour of Kone, Ba even...

I'm there, but reluctantly so. I can't see much value in Lukaku atm, nor in any of the other DGW forwards bar Tevez. I'm planning to get rid before GW 37, or maybe 38. He does have flashes of brilliance, Tottenham pumped up after the City win.

If not for the DGW I'd have gone with Carroll or Sturridge instead though.

    Looking at spam/racism/trolling:

Site mods/owners, you're got a large community here, and all I've heard is that you're doing stuff with a new crowd-moderated comment system - I can't see it being enough. Promote proper discussion is to use forums (I hate that word, but we are talking about giving a taxonomy to discussion rather than simply attaching it to a chronology), and a series of filterable comment/content streams (e.g. a forum topic for each post, displayed under each post). Every piece of content is an opportunity for some attention-seeking idiot to become 'a character', and by the mercurial speed of new comment pages, get some sort of satisfaction based on the amount of comment replies. This forces controversy, not discussion.

Start to categorise discussion along with your devolved moderation, then if people want to get their kicks trolling it won't take long for them to hit a brick wall.

Haven't seen much of it, but what I read said that the stickies would be in the current format? A series of filtered views sounds good - but it still means there is no category - so you are essentially asking people to moderate on a good or bad basis, which is still rubbish unless you employ some kind of auto-tagging, which is still rubbish.

The bad side to the forum argument is that you are intentionally downscaling the audience of each post to prevent the mayhem. f you've got the energy for that much spam, and reporting for the site catch up with you and stop you, then you are certainly a clever/disturbed monkey.

Would be good to see the test though if what I've read is wildly wrong now.

THe other major advantage of the new site is the secondary system called "crowdcontrol" which gives the mods amazingly new improved ability to quickly mod. Plus there will be a lot more mods.

Drop me a mail at homecrowd@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk and take a look at homecrowd. We have, of course, looked a forum solution but that has its own major problems. The overwhelming trend on the web is to move away from forums to advanced comment systems with social media integration - I don't see us going in the opposite direction as a good thing.

HomeCrowd's features, with stronger moderation will, I'm confident, improve matters here.

We've been working on HC for five months now - I've already invested a lot in its development. The problems you raise are valid but we are taking them very seriously and trying to improve things.

Cool - I'll drop you a line - I get your point about advanced comments etc and hopefully you've got a good balance. Though most solutions tend to be sold on 'we'll its a bit like twitter' and 'uses oAuth'....which is fine if thats what people want, but it tends to discourage longform discussion, and sadly can alienate users over 40 or those who want anonymity + it favours those who help improve rankings by using SM channels (maybe I should take a look before continuing that rant tho!).

Who are you to demand what people can or can not post about?

Some people like a bit of fun/banter, some people do not.

Stop trying to change the world to suit you & you alone.

I am not saying what people can or can not post about.

A bit of banter on this blog is good.

Constant RMT's etc etc are quite boring

Neither am I - but I'm suggesting a meritocracy and categorisation.

So less RMTs would suit you? Me too. Put them under a RMT category then. If you've made the effort and added some good info, people will reply.

Under HC, if you sort by rating, all the lower rated comments will relegated to your last page. Presumably, if folk hate RMT's that much, this will allow you to view all the very best discussions in that thread and avoid the RMT's.

We dont' want to rule out RMT's - often this is how new users reach out to the community.

Fab - though the category point still stands - it makes sense to rate posts in context (i.e. RMT v RMT rather than RMT v Amazing meme) otherwise RMT will disappear as they are essentially a sub-type of comment.

Very good post. I think some on here should just get msn or whatever the equivalent is these days as the site just becomes pages of drivel at times. A forum system would help keep the discussions on some sort of track rather than 7 pages of unfunny puns

          Very unlikely.

Walcott rose last week when most here didn't think he would.
