Following on from yesterday’s preview movie, which highlighted the Projections and Rate My Team’s Player List feature at work, we now cast an eye over the Build My Team component.

Once again, I got together with Rate My Team’s creator, Chris Atkinson, to demonstrate and talk you through how this feature works in practice. The movie highlights how you can piece together a pre-season lineup and how, once the season is underway, Rate My Team can help not only with transfer strategies but also with selection dilemmas such as the captaincy and bench order.

In the third part of the Rate My Team movie previews we’ll be talking at length on how the tool works behind the scenes, including a full run through of the steps we take to keep it maintained and providing numbers that can help with your lineups.

Just a note for those looking to add their team id’s in order to retrieve their lineups in Rate My Team – as the movie explains, this feature is not available until squads are locked down for Gameweek 1 and made public. Otherwise, of course, we’d all be able to view each other’s teams right now by just adding ID’s into the tool. Rest assured, once Gameweek 1’s deadlines has passed, you will be able to add and save your team ID to transfer your current lineup into the tool for tinkering.

Fantasy Football Scout Memberships are now available for the pre-season price of £12.50.

What is Rate My Team?
Rate My team is a statistical model built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has an attacking and defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence factored in.

How Can It Help Me?
If you’re a member you can use the Rate My Team tool in a number of ways. Firstly, you can use it as a projections tool to predict what specific players will score, on average, over the next X number of Gameweeks. As you would have seen in our first movie, you have a players table that can be filtered by position or FPL cost and which can be extended to show any number of Gameweeks. You can also sort on ā€œValueā€ to find those players projected to offer the best points per million return.

However, this is just one part of the functionality. Rate My Team can also analyse your existing FPL lineup, recommend captains, vice captains, your bench and bench order, and allow you to model your future transfers. You’ll see this at play in the movie above.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Interesting that Chris said he got a 6-week score of 328 in his RMT...I was looking at the team I liked for 33 weeks and I got 337...what's more I could increase that because I didn't always pick the highest ranked RMT players, I've not checked rotation especially carefully yet and I've not bothered trying to maximise my 6-week score either

so I say 340 plus may well be acheivable

has anyone found anything significantly better than 340?

I can't seem to hit it WITH one of those guys. Although, the program is new to me. When RVP is in the squad it leaves me with very little versatility elsewhere.

The 6 week projection is not even that accurate, since we (hopefully) won't have any of blanks offered by the Chelsea/Villa players in GW3 in our teams... I guess it depends on what transfers we make during that time...

But just for the sake of comparison, I got 337 too...

I think the RMT table I more of a "feeler" for team effectiveness. I'm still going to stick with my 333 team as the balance was far superior and allowed for more rotation. I was able to milk the numbers a little bit and hit 339.67 but is left me with both Jrod and Lambert, plus two Everton defenders.

Too many eggs in one basket for my taste

There'll be a lot of rotation in friendlies but once the season starts he'll pick one to be the main man. Hopefully Lukaku but realistically Torres until he loses patience with him.

    @Berbinho's forehead

Nutters? the only ones deluded are Liverpool fans who think they will actually finish above Arsenal before the start of every season. 23 and 40m for Higuain and Suarez are enough considering the circumstances

You know what? Actually forget that. Keep your focus on getting into that Thursday night Second tier european League. Whats it called again? Maybe keeping Suarez would help that, though he deserves UCL football.

Good luck fighting with Everton for 7th and 6th

Tough call. I'm not liking the striking options this year too much. I'm used to betting on the likes of Rooney, Tevez, Suarez, etc. RVP is very expensive though and that money can be used in midfield. I'd say 2 but get ready for the wildcard if RVP goes on fire

    SkyFF questions

    1) If I use my transfer to remove an existing captain, the new player will automatically replace him as a captain. So is this considered as part of the CAPTAIN CHANGE for the week?

    2) With no quota on monthly transfers, can I basically use all my 40 transfers in an attempt to win the monthly prizes? Seems ridiculous.

Because....I can then have 3 captains.

      Caz (C) plays on Mon
Caz (C) again plays on Sat
Use my transfer: Caz to Haz on Sun. Haz (C) by default
Use my captain change to make Bale (C) on Mon

Ok, so the first line there is just misleading... a new GW starts on Saturday at 00:01am, so it doesn't matter who you captained the week before...

I think they (Sky) will have included sanctions to avoid these scenarios, but if not then I dare say you will have found a loophole in the game...

Although it is to be noted that this is only a gain in the short term, since wasting transfers to take out your best players every week seems a little silly...

But if your only aim is to win Manager on the Month, then why the devil not? šŸ˜€

Come to think of it....The whole gameweek concept seems insignificant in Sky because you can make a transfer on Sat evening and score on Sun....basically if you use your one transfer/week on Sat evening, you can actually have 12 players + 2/3 captains

"In order to be eligible for scoring, transfers must be made before the earliest kick off that day; transfers made after the earliest kick off will start scoring from the next day. For example: If you transfer in van Persie before the earliest kick off on Saturday he will be eligible to score points immediately. If you transfer him in after the earliest kick off on Saturday, he will be eligible to score points from Sunday’s matches"

I've emailed them to ask Question 1) Waiting for their response. šŸ˜‰

            Think of it....

If i can have 3 captains a week, nothing stops me from having 5 captains a week ....say in DGW36.

Unless there are only 4 days of matches, then there would only be 4 max...

I think the fact that they have stipulated several times on the rules page that two is the limit, you would still be allowed to make the transfers but after you've had your second load of double points, the rest will all score just single points...

Let me know what they reply with...

Over the busy Xmas period or in DGW36, its very much possible Zep

Will do. It shouldn't matter, as i'm still following their rules as to using ONE captain change per week. Here's hoping its a loophole.

I've got Thomass67 working on the monthly prizes too. Create new accounts every month basically, I don't think there are many managers who will either realise this or go for it. Fancy the odds.

Starting completely afresh again, so all 120 spots open for allocation.

Season 1 and 2 are linked. Similarly, seasons 3 and 4 are linked. Keeps them fresh as there are new people every season.

I just think he's too lightweight to play deep...they have Lamps, Esssien, Ramirez and Mikel (who might be leaving but then again Mourinho liked him before) as well as Luiz who can chip in there if necessary

also is Van Ginkel in the mix for a defensive role?

    Hey everyone!

This is my first post! Last season was my first FPL endeavor and I only discovered the community here halfway through the season. Needless to say, the insights here dramatically helped me navigate the 2nd half! Anyways I just wanted to wish everyone good luck and hopefully I'll get to meet some of you as the season progresses.

    Best of luck!

Nice but don't like the mbiwa pick he doesn't rotate with your other defenders, if you look at this site http://www.fantasyfootballmad.com/en/home-away-rotation you can see which teams rotate home and away so potential to get rid of turner and put in a Southampton player that would give you a pretty decent option

I have Boruc. Not gonna get a Southampton defender who'll hit me doubly if Southampton concede if I had both.Rotation spreadsheets are grand but sometimes I'll go with defenders away rather than home. Mbiwa will help solidify the Newcastle defence and I expect it to be more similar to two seasons ago and be a better CS bet than Southampton.

I like it. Sexy midfield but maybe downgrade one of them to upgrade forwards. 1st team I've seen with Wes in there but may wanna take him out cos you'll have a double hit if they're there and Sunderland concede. Can get a few 4.5 defenders but 4.5 keepers are scarce.

Yeh I've just seen bit and pieces of Sunderland preseason games and Wes has looked good. I did have turner from Norwich in there. Yeah I like the midfield prospects better this season and a jrod/anelka rotation doesn't look half bad either. I can do terry to Coleman mirallas to Michu and lukaku to 7.5 as well. 5 9mil+ mids looks very good.

Need to decide which 1 of these 3 CHE players to drop from my squad - thoughts?

    a) Terry - probably most likely to start both, decent attacking threat for a defender, but massive hauls less likely
    b) Lamps - chance of starting both, but most likely just one. On pens and has an eye for goal. Potential for big haul is there.
    c) Lukaku - probably least likely to start both. On form and could score huge, even from one game.

My other CHE cover is, obviously, Hazard. Thanks

Terry and Lamps have been warned by Mourinho that they wont be starting in week in, week out. Given that a game against United follows this DGW, I wouldn't be surprised to see both of them rested. I would opt for Luiz and maybe Lukaku. The defence for Lukaku starting only one game is that he is more likely to get a big haul against Hull.

Pretty sold on my front 8, wouldn't change a thing. Now I'm just trying to sort out my back 7, think it's good but I'd love another opinion:

    Mignolet (Lewis)

Toure M. Turner Collins (Clyne B. Turner)

Not too many. Shaw,Clyne, Amoribieta, Vlaar, possibly Baker, Yanga-Mbiwa. Shaw and Clyne would have you doubling up with Boruc.

    Mignolet (Given)

    Collins--IVANOVIC--Shaw (M.Turner, Parr)

    Walcott--Snodgrass--Mirallas--HAZARD (Thomas)

    Rvp--BENTEKE--Rodriguez

Nasty hasn't been confirmed out yet.. Yes he is injured but is still to be assessed.

why do you say that? lescott was known to score a few goals himself when he was at everton yeah?

Surely if he gets game time, he'll have the same CS potential as Zab and could possibly get on the end of a corner or two.

At Everton, yes. In the last few years for City, not so much. He is still a solid defender, but Kompany is more likely to get on the end of a corner these days than Lescott. Also, as Mr. Greedy says below, Nasty will eventually come back, and he will take Lescott's spot.

Zab is better because he swings crosses into the box like his job depends on it. His role might be different under Pelligrini... but if it is similar to last year, he is a better shout than Lescott.

Can't afford to miss out on the Chelsea boat. All the serious players will have 3 in their team, and looking at the fixtures, Chelsea could be in for a massive haul. So finding the right 3 could put you pretty high in the rankings from GW1 (a feat I have never achieved).

I'll be going Haz, Luiz & Lukaku (then most likely do Luiz & Lukaku > Mert & Sturridge for a hit GW2)

Okay, then he will be easy to hop on at 5.5... It's always easier to jump down than to jump up.

Michu wasn't a risk... he scored 20 goals in the La Liga and was talked up constantly on this board. I had him in my team GW1.

Lambert scored 25 goals the season before he came to the premier league...

Lukaku was a 2nd half of the season gem, but if you had him in your team to start with last season, you would have dropped him... he rarely started.
