Injuries to some of the Premier League’s biggest stars have dominated discussion amongst the community, with wildcards and hits falling like confetti. We also catch up on those in far better health in our community leagues.

Hottest Topic

Greenwindmill posed a timely question this week. Given injuries to Christian Benteke and Theo Walcott (and with Robin Van Persie still a doubt for the weekend), our moderator contemplated just how we judge whether a hit is worthwhile or not. Among those to answer was Brutus619, who puts forward a good case for hits and an even better case for inclusion in a forthcoming Scoutcast Full Jonty.

Many Fantasy Football managers almost fainted when they saw Robin Van Persie had been handed a 14m price tag in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) this season. But even though other strikers such as Olivier Giroud have outscored him for a fraction of his price, Jonny believes his price may have been perfect. His reasoning is that despite a volatile market in the last two weeks  in the FPL game, RVP’s ownership has remained relatively steady. Could he remain 14m for the rest of the season? Even though he missed last Sunday’s Manchester derby, RVP has still not dropped in price this week.

For those considering drafting in Romelu Lukaku as a replacement for the likes of Van Persie or Benteke, Blue Lion’s post will prove fruitful reading. With another loan move under his belt the young striker looks prime for points, he argues. This was certainly the case against West Ham.

Wakey’s regular Falling Stars posts offer a welcome antidote to those of us with jerky knees, looking to transfer out poor performers. Each week he profiles a selection of players who have dropped in value to show how sometimes it is worth hanging on to unfashionable players. Stephane Sessegnon, who is 0.3m cheaper than his starting price, is among his pick of the Gameweek 5 Falling Stars.

HeelsOverHead has been delving into the history books to see which of the current crop of Premier League players have the best track record of hattricks and braces. Turns out there are nine current Premier League players who managed a hat-trick last season. Find out who they are here.

The penny has long since dropped that the bonus point system favours defenders. But could this mean we experience the first season where defenders become the highest scorers in FPL? Going into Gameweek 5 Ryan found that nine teams had a defender as their highest scoring player. Will this still be the case at the end of the season?

One of this week’s most popular hot topics, with 30 votes at the time of writing, was Portsmouth Bubblejet’s epic look at the best rotation options over the coming weeks. Certainly plenty to ponder there as we look to prepare our teams for the weeks ahead.

Community Leagues

HeelsOverHeads’ Worst To First – 2 Million+ Club, for teams with an overall rank below 2,000,000 in the first five Gameweeks, now has five out of the 23 teams that entered in the top 1,000,000. Bales of Fury continues to lead the league with an overall rank of 344,013.

In Thomas and Peppie&Felix‘s Friends Life competition the three league leaders are Forca, Daniel and Thomass.

Meanwhile, the five league leaders in In Tommy We Trust’s All Things…. leagues are TheRealAVB, Tommy Tour, LawnDart, Mind over Mata and Binij.

LawnDart topped Torres Magic’s Early Bird league with a score of 64. Just 14 survivors remain, but entry is still open for more to join. In his Last Man Standing league 847 are left.

Those successfully traversing the It’s A Long And Winding Road (LAWR) H2H leagues are TommyTour59, Turbo Dog, IAmSuarez, Beric, Super Hans, ManAmongst and DonTheSpecialOne. TommyTour59 is also the LAWR main league leader.

Elsewhere, the 552-strong UEFA FFS FA Cup kicks off this week with its preliminary round. Team allocations and the Preliminary Round Draw will be posted on the FFS Uefa website by Friday, Sept 27.

Surely not worth me selling Walcott this week for a 4 pointer, as I can get 11 out with Collins to sub if RVP doesn't play?

Thinking next week Walcott>Oscar, then either Walcott back for Mirallas or Lukaku>Giroud if he doesn't work out, which I don't expect him not to so will likely sell Mirallas for Arsenal cover.

    Mignolet
    Coleman Zabaleta Clyne
    Brady Erikson Mirallas Wanyama
    RVP(c) Sturridge(vc) Lukaku

    Harper Collins WALCOTT CHESTER

hmm, I am selling Walcott for another hit (one was already taken)

My back-up is Kim, so most certainly 2points, so it doesn't satisfy me 😐

I jumped the gun, and sold my bench dross for Lukaku on Saturday. In hindsight, a 4 point hit for fodder>Giroud + Walcott>Oscar would have made more sense in current light. So I might still sell Walcott, and take the 4 point hit, but can't see Oscar returning much at Spurs that's all...

    Which one?

    A) Mignolet + Boruc + Walker + Nasri( with no option of upgrading Nasri to Oscar in the coming weeks)

    B) Marshall + Boruc + Baines + Oscar/Nasri

    The rest of defense\ Midfield

    Wilson, Turner, Clyne

Michu, Ozil , Barkley, R. Morrison

    Cheers

This happens in all of the middle east.

I worked in UAE, so I know.

They take their passports off them for the first 2 years, so they can't go home & not return.

They have to work 12 hours a day, 6 days a week.

      Paid buttons.

      Treated as slaves.

If there is a car accident & it is a westerners fault, they still prosecute the Indians/Pakistans etc.

      Disgrace.

Walker or Vidic... Both are playing in teams with solid defensive mindsets (Utd's city drubbing was an exception - they'll keep plenty clean sheets under Moyes' negative tactics).
Vidic is up for every corner & again Moyes tactics place heavy emphasis headers from physically dominant players on set pieces.
Walker gets forward so much he's almost like a winger, pace to burn, gets in loads of crosses & isn't afraid to have a shot either.
      That's my 2 pence.

Walker due to form and fixtures..also getting bonus and cheaper than Vert. Already in my team.
Vidic...forma and fixtures. He has a good chance of bps if Man Utd keep a clean sheet, which they will over their current run.
Ivan...in the absence of any attack he is the best option for Chesea defensive and attacking returns.

Walker , fantastic fixtures, good defensive form, and great potential for attacking points, created equal highest amount of chances the last game, if I'm not mistaken.

Vidic - Once again good fixtures, and bonus point potential

      Ivanovic

But honestly , I know nothing.

Rafael: He is the most nailed on alongside with Evra in United. Assist, Goals, CS, BPS.

Dawson: cheap, Spurs is looking good so far in defense.

My starting 11. I have only Redmond on the bench and he could not start.

Am I in danger not to have 11 out fielded players this week. Already made a 4pt hit and want just to go with it. Deal with Tekekek next week.

      Mig
      Hang Lovren Vidic Coleman
      Ozil Lamps Brady Whitts
      Rooney Sturridge
      bench: Redmond, Benteke, Wisdom.

Actually I like my first 11 but if I go down to possible 9 I would we worried. Thoughts appreciated. ..

Vidic. Utds fixtures are as good as it gets for next 15wks. BPS system should hopefully benefit him.

Dawson is good value at 5.1

Walker is the best combo of price, attacking threat a security in his team.

Those 3 from United all carry risk IMO but I would punt on Vidic being the safest at the moment.

Nasty if nailed-on is also a great pick-up.

I still think Mert is good value too.

So, a lot of Walker love with Vidic probably in second place. Interesting.

I had been all set on Vidic (or possibly Ferdinand as a more budget friendly option) but this is swaying me. Cheers all.

Spurs are a different beast this year and could really push for the title if they can stay solid at the back and keep up their chances created, which will sooner or later be rewarded with goals IMO

      Walker and Vidic.

      1. Walker for assist and clean sheet potential (never thought I'd say that about Spurs last season).
      2. Vidic due to Moyes team's defensive resilience and goal threat. Plus I think he's kindly priced too.

What to do with anything with this midfield.
At the moment I have lined up with a 5-2-3 for this GW

    Anyway my mids

Ozil, Eriksen, Ben Arfa, Ward-Prowse and Kasami

I have 1 million to spare

    Rest of My team is
    Cech/Boruc
    Shaw, Zab, Vidic, Walker, Ivan
    ...
    Sturridge, Lukaku, Giroud
