A goalscoring legend rolls back the years to put in a match winning shift that pockets him a double figure Fantasy haul. Elsewhere, West Ham’s resilience is on show to tempt our belated investment, while down at the Lane, Tottenham’s midfield personnel remain in flux as another popular target finds himself on the timber.

The Game Changer

In a season seemingly crowded by prolific, stand-out options in attack, it’s perhaps ironic that Fernando Torres should, at last, show a glimmer of former glories.

Today’s goal and assist returns in the dramatic win over City saw Torres deliver on the promise he had previously shown in recent matches. More significantly, his performance seemed to demonstrate a new hunger and confidence coursing through his veins as, time and time again, he took it upon himself to stretch the City backline with positive movement and surges between defenders. All this following a glaring miss that typified his previous displays at the Bridge.

It would be premature and foolish to announce that Torres is back but, having impressed in matches at Spurs and in the Champions League, the former Liverpool striker is beginning to chain together convincing performances. Today he capped it with Fantasy returns – a double figure haul no less.

As Chelsea’s expensive midfield options – Oscar and Eden Hazard – drew a blank, Torres is perhaps unlucky to find our forward lines so fully booked by other in-from options. It seems unlikely that Fantasy attention will come his way in the current landscape, but there’s little doubt that Torres’ form at least warrants our attention and recognition.

The Underused

Despite earning a fifth clean sheet of the season at the Liberty stadium today, West Ham’s defence remains largely ignored by Fantasy managers.

With under 6% ownership, keeper Jussi Jääskeläinen is the most popular member of Sam Allardyce’s resolute rearguard. While his 5.5 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) price tag is perhaps an obstacle given the value offered by Southampton’s Artur Boruc, in front of him we have a cast to choose from across the price brackets.

Winston Reid is perhaps the jewel in the crown – a dominant centre-back of some standing, he already has a league goal to his name and top scores for Bonus Point System (BPS) points with 52. Below him, we find James Tomkins, a relatively new option having earned a recall in place of former favourte James Collins. Priced at 4.7, Tomkins arguably has a greater goal threat than Reid and is just as capable of earning bonus points given his aerial presence.

At the lower end of the scale, Razvan Rat now looks assured of starts as Joey O’Brien and Guy Demel battle for the right-back role. The Romanian is installed on the left and offers a route to Big Sam’s defence for just 4.5. He’s now started the last five and looks set to earn significant interest following today’s returns given the Hammers forthcoming schedule.

The Selection Poser

The Spurs midfield continues to cause concern for Fantasy managers, with Andre Villas-Boas today introducing Aaron Lennon into the mix. Having dropped Christian Eriksen to the bench at Villa last weekend, today it was the turn of Gylfi Sigurdsson to make way as Lennon took up the left flank role.

With Eriksen benched again, only seeing action with thirty minutes remaining, it’s rapidly becoming clear that our options in Tottenham’s engine room are limited to Paulinho and the emerging Andros Townsend. Both saw 90 minutes in the win over the Tigers, although Townsend was fortunate to end the match having been knocked unconscious after falling into the White Hart Lane crowd.

With Eriksen’s ownership plummeting following his recent relegation, it now looks set to be Sigurdsson’s turn to suffer losses – the Icelandic international is owned by almost 10% of FPL managers, having enjoyed a spurt of investment following a 16-point haul in Gameweek 4.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

It seems a lot of people, myself included, have Suarez & Sturridge but also Ramsey & Özil.

If you do, is any of them facing the chop with Arsenal playing Liverpool next weekend?

It may have been a profitable week but it helps to stay ahead of the curve in this game and I'm just thinking that this could one of those pivotal points in breaking the templates that seem to form...

Ramsey is now a rotation risk possibly or he's stuck on the wing and looking ineffective when there. He's also held by almost everyone so his points are actually worthless.

Might be something do with the fact he gets loads of shots in matches, was 3rd for goals in 2013 behind Messi and Ronaldo, and is on penalties with excellent fixtures to come.

Giroud might be on FPL form, but i'd still rather Arsenal's midfielders when all fit. He didn't have a great game bar the goal. He's also facing, Liverpool, United and Southampton in the next 3.

I'd feel very uncomfortable losing Gru, Demi. Sole forward and with ARS in the goals, he's always going to be in the mix.

On saying that, Benteke is a great shout. Benteke, Suaz and Gru is still a great front 3 though.

    Michu Analysis:

I've seen a lot of people frustrated with Michu and looking to ship him out, for me I wouldn't at all. Here's some key stats and things to think about with Michu and why I think people should hold onto him.

    Swansea's upcoming fixtures -Cardiff (A) Stoke (H) Fulham (A) Man City (A) Newcastle (H) Hull (H) Norwich (A)

So far this season, Michu's scored 2 goals, one against Liverpool at home and one against Crystal Palace away.
Out of the 9 matches played so far this season Michu only scored 3 goals in these last season, Manchester United, Sunderland and West Ham all at home.

Also people are comparing Michu's performance at the start of last season to the end of 2012 and the beginning of 2013 until now. Michu hasn't been as prolific as he was at the start of last season, but he's still been good in my opinion.
There has been 27 Premier League matches since the start of the year and Michu has featured in 25 of these, playing at least 60 minutes. In these matches he's got; 7 goals, 2 assists, 5 yellow cards and 9 clean sheets. This totals up to 95 points - 3.8 points per game (that's without bonus points and captain choices.) If we times this by 38 (the total number of matches in a season) it equals 144.4 points. I'd happily take that off of Michu. This season he's on 4.1 points per game, 155.8 for a season. But last year he scored 190 points, an average of 5 points per game.

Why has Michu returns declined? One factor is he returns better when playing as an attacking midfielder. He played in this role in 63% of games he played at the start of the 12/13 season, until the end of 2012. In these games he played as an attacking midfielder he scored 10 goals of his 13 goal total.
He has played as an attacking midfielder 48% times from the start of 2013 up until and including today out of the 25 matches. This season he's played as a centre forward in 3 out of his 9 matches.

Another factor which may have affected Michu's returns is the amount of goals Swansea as a team have been scoring.
From the start of last season until the end of 2012, Swansea scored 27 goals in matches that Michu played, which is on average 1.42 goals per match. Where as for the whole of 2013 (25 matches) Swansea have scored 27 goals again, which averages at 1.08 goals per match. This season they've scored 12 goals in 9 games, 1.33 goals per game.

In my eyes I feel Michu hasn't done awful so far this season, like some people are saying. If Laudrup plays him as an attacking midfielder, rather than a centre forward his returns will increase. Also if Swansea as a team start scoring plenty of goals he should be on the score sheet. And yes, Swansea won 4-0 at home to Sunderland and Michu didn't score or assist. But last year Swansea beat Stoke 3-1 at home and Michu didn't score or assist. Yes they didn't score 4 goals, but they still scored plenty of goals. An attacking player doesn't score in every high scoring match, as frustrating as it is.

    And here's some other stats from last season in the Premier League;

    Goals -
    Total: 18
    Relegated Teams (6 goals) & Top 5 Teams (5 goals): 11
    Other Teams: 7
    Home: 11
    Away: 7
    Position - AM: 11
    Position - CF: 7

Michu clearly likes the numbers 11 and 7!

If you're happy with 144 points from Michu when he's priced at 9.0, then you have low expectations.

Walcott got to 194 points last season from a 9.0 starting price. Mata and Hazard did similar or better from a 9.5 starting price.

No mention of Europa League which they didn't have last season. Swansea don't have a huge squad to rotate effectively, and Michu plays every minute of every game.

No. Hart should've stayed on his line which is where Nastasic was trying to give him the ball. But Nastasic might have been better to head the ball as far out to the wing as he could, away from Torres. He's still fairly inexperienced.

Salma needs your help. How do I clean up this mess?

    Mig
    Coleman Chester Dawson
    Ozil Januzaj Kim Michu
    Soldado Studge Rooney

    Bank 5.1
    2 FT

Subs - Davis Barkley Ward Murner

Kim out should be the priority isn't it? Thinking Kim > Hazaa/Oscar/Silva

That leaves 0.5. Can't see a better move than Soldado > Tekkers. Could then do Roo > Suarez in GW11, even though I really want to keep Rooney too.

However, Agüero is mighty tempting. And my defence is shambolic.

You could make arguments for both mate. And Vice Versa.

If it were me, I'd find it difficult to do A just because I like all three players.

B is good if you can afford it, but it of course means you lot a lot of budget for other things.

B makes more sense imo, but like I say you could make a strong case for +/- on each of them

I was planning to do A this week from 2 weeks ago, but the Suarez hat trick messed up my plans. This double up was only meant to be temporary.

I'm not sure I can bring myself to get rid of Sturridge unfortunately, after he has scored a goal every week except GW5, that is ludicrous consistency

I'm probably going to do C
