I would probably have given a goal. But the rules (particularly the offside one) are open to interpretation, and in this case the referee interpreted that he was interfering with play. His is the only decision that matters either way - he did the right thing in checking with his linesman and from then on ultimately making the decision. As I say, I don't agree with his decision, but it see no clear evidence for criticising him for making it.

The dubious goals panel awarded the goal to Barry 2 weeks later as they felt it had taken a touch off Barry. So the ref in this case argued that Barry had not been in the gk's line of sight , yet the goal was awarded to him. Go figure.
