Here were are on the eve of Gameweek 35 and there’s the small matter of the Sixth Round draw for the Fantasy Football Scout Cup IV to deal with. Just 16 Fantasy Managers now remain, which gives us (well, me at least) a slightly startling reminder as to how close to the season end we are.
As always, you can view the full set of results from the previous round with a single click (provided you click right here), as you can with the draw for this round (right here). What follows is a summary and a preview of those two pieces…
Scoring back-to-back top scores isn’t unprecedented in FFS Cup history (remember the legend that was NBJ?), but nonetheless it’s mighty impressive. And that’s exactly what hamyai_hamyai has done, after bashing Green_Libero 99 – 63. That huge win now sets up a Last 16 meeting with the second highest-ranked Fantasy Manager in the competition, Pocket Beatnik (coming in off a 82 – 53 win over milanista).
Perhaps I should have stuck an asterisk after naming hamyai_hamyai as the round’s top-scorer, because it was in fact a joint-top-score. Biscanators also notched a score one point short of a century, despatching Minkfish by 39 points in the process. Standing between him and a spot in our Quarter-Finals is Dame Judi Dench M.
Also one win from a Quarter-Final is SammyC, who was involved in the highest-scoring tie of the round against Wonderboys. The final score in that was 95 – 87, and the victor now goes on to a Round Six match-up with elana_s.
The highest-ranked Fantasy Manager left in the competition (and therefore instantly dubbed ‘favourite’ by me) is 58th in the world daniel.mf. The Republic of Macedonia’s number one takes on Pez in the Last 16.
As luck would have it, the two worst-ranked Fantasy Managers in the Last 16 face each other. 135,758th in the world Joel Farthing takes one 152,081st overall PowerOranje. Whoever advances will of course be named as my ‘plucky underdog’ for the next round. How far will late-season form take them?
All ties to be played over Gameweek 35 and I’ll bring you the results once it has concluded. Good luck to all those competing in the Sixth Round.
