Manchester United’s managerial merry-go-round and Jose Mourinho’s mindgames provided the main focus of this week’s discussion on the site. We catch up on the community’s thoughts on how fixture congestion and David Moyes’ sacking will effect teamsheets over the final three Gameweeks. Our man in Burnley discusses his side’s promotion to the Premier League and we also take a tour of the community’s Fantasy Football fortune-telling booths. As ever, we look at the ups and downs in the community leagues, including two managers’ tussle for a rather smart jacket to keep them warm for next season.

The Hottest Topics

The community’s crystal-ball gazers were out in full force this week. Many attempted to peer into the future and assess what effect both David Moyes’ departure from Manchester United and Chelsea’s Champions League aspirations would have on their teamsheets this weekend and beyond.

Moyes’ removal from the Old Trafford hotseat and subsequent appointment of Ryan Giggs as interim manager provoked one of the biggest bouts of clairvoyance when we asked where next for the Red Devil’s Fantasy assets? RonH believed the second change in management in a year will take time to bed in and their players should be treated with caution. Meanwhile, Carrick Deserves More Mata foresees significant bench positioning for Moyes signing Marouane Fellaini – the Belgian wasn’t even amongst the subs yesterday.

The fate of Wayne Rooney under the temporary Giggs reign was also a source of debate. The Sarjeant sees goals, assists and bonus points in the striker’s future and urged the community to draft him in for the season finale. Christina, however, suggests caution – his research reveals that Rooney is not as consistent at home against teams in the bottom half of the table, though Rooney managed to dispel that theory with a 13-point return in yesterday’s rout.

Chelsea’s upcoming teamsheets were also hotly discussed after Jose Mourinho threatened to ring the changes in order to deal with the fixture congestion caused by his side’s Champions League progress. In Isacki’s discussion on Mourinho’s famous mindgames, The Shadow was sceptical of the Chelsea manager’s talk and believes Mourinho is merely deflecting attention away from the Blues’ lack of striker options – Mourinho was true to his word, though, and made seven alterations to his side in this afternoon’s win at Anfield.

The Sarjeant was back again at his fortune-telling booth later this week to challenge the community to predict this weekend’s scores. Visit his Punters Predictions hot topic here to see which of you has been closest to guessing Gameweek 36’s results so far.

As the season draws to a close, tactical changes, points hits and risks become more commonplace, according to Jafalad, as Fantasy managers look to consolidate or snatch mini-league glory. His end-of-season tips provided some excellent ideas on ensuring the final few Gameweeks are a success.

Burnley fan Sif had much to celebrate this week after the Turf Moor outfit confirmed their promotion back into the Premier League. He has kindly shared his inside knowledge of their players to offer us some potentially lucrative budget options for next season – the community has clearly taken note, with one of his tips, Kieran Trippier, among a raft of 2014/15 prospects mentioned in MJ6987’s hot topic on next season’s key players.

The Community Tournaments

In the Fantasy Football Scout contributors and moderators league Spencer continued in front after Gameweek 35, albeit with a reduced lead of 10 points.

Elsewhere, Zan Keroski’s impressive tally of 93pts was enough to scoop first place in @ocprodigy’s Gameweek 35 Scout Pick Challenge.

In TorresMagic‘s Leagues, five were eliminated from his Last Man Standing league, leaving six to fight in the last two rounds. His FPL Open and Elite 64 competitions have reached the semi-final stage.

Teddy’s Ironman competition has seen that chap Jonty take the lead, after retaining top spot in the competition’s Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and third in the Sky and Metro leagues. Bonz is in second overall and In Like Flynn rises to third due to his unassailable lead in the Metro league and an upturn in FPL form. Gigging Order continues to top the Sky league.

In Kings of Lyon’s Who Wants To Be A Millionaire league, for those with a rank outside of the top 1,000,000 at the Gameweek 8 mark, Elizabeth Genius clung onto the lead despite slipping to 4,028 overall. John Woods is just ten points behind after rising to 5,507 in the overall rankngs.

Gnu’s Wigan To Me… head to head league is heading for a nail-biting conclusion with Damo and  Jonty  battling it out for this competition’s top prize, a Barbour jacket.

A few points of discussion for the DZ:

    1) What do you predict will be United's back 4 for the DGW?
    2) How many minutes will Mata likely get?
    3) Is Connor Wickham the real deal?

    1) In my opinion, Giggs seems like he's a traditionalist and having played many games with Vidic and Ferdinand, I think he'll go with the same back 4 that got the job done. If he does this, Ferdinand at 4.9 looks a steal.

    2) Has there been anything from Giggs explaining why Mata didnt start? Not starting Mata and leaving Fellaini out leads me to believe it was an anti-Moyes stance or maybe he just didn't fit the structure. Seems very odd but with 2 goals coming off the bench, surely he has to start in front of Kags, Welbeck or Valencia? Predicting 120+ mins but a fit(?) RVP may change that.

    3) His form is incredible and has three very easy home games in a team hungry to stay up. He's done it against both tough and weak opponents. The only problem is that most have Aguero and Rooney meaning Suarez will have to go. Very risky when Pool will be going all out and a home game v Newcastle on the final day.

    What are all your thoughts?

I think I could able to afford to bench Jones for GW 38. Just need a guaranteed United defender for 37..

A mod should hot topic this. It's going to be a popular question this week.

I actually considered doing Suarez to Wickham last week (as part of a WC), but decided to stick with Suarez, partially due to Wickham being yellow flagged at the time. In hindsight it was the wrong choice. Now I'm considering it as my 1 FT this week, but I'll probably stick again after going back and forth on it until Saturday.

I don't need the money and to me it seems nuts. Sunderland are usually quite rubbish and Liverpool usually score goals for fun. Sunderland scoring 4 and Liverpool scoring 0 won't be a regular occurrence.

I was considering the move to either Wickham or Borini even before the Cardiff game, with an eye toward bringing in both Mata and Yaya if Yaya was fit. Today's results across the board made the issue only which of the two strikers to bring in for Suarez, not whether to remove Suarez. Chose Wickham over Borini on gut feel.

So now have 8 dgw players and may take one more hit (for -12) to bring in a 9th. Laissez les bons temps rouler. 🙂

I got Kolarov back in January, and only shipped him for Demichelis this week to have a more nailed City defender for the last 4 games. I knew what I was getting into with Kolarov, and was happy with his contribution to my team. His 1 minute cameo last week annoyed me though.

I take no notice of Team/Player/manager of the year rubbish. Most have their own agenda and the results are, I think for the most part written at the same time as the questions. Or the opinions of the small select group asked are already known.

Ramsey is the worst one, I just can't believe that omission. If you took Suarez and Sturridge and Yaya out of the equation, then Ramsey would still be one of the best (if not the best) option for Player of the Year.

Only thing I can think of is that he was out for so long, and during that time, his team sort of lost its way a tad. This is just an assumption on my part to try to figure out how and why Ramsey would be omitted. Otherwise, the dude has played out of his mind.....when available.

My assumption is that they wanted to pat Gerrard on the back for his 9,000 penality conversions this year, and that ONE nice pass he made to sturridge/sterling earlier this year

                Well he did assist Ba.

Bias aside, Gerrard has been immense at the back. Filled in as the 3rd CB and prevented several goals.

Since I'll be keeping whoever I don't sell for the last week as well it comes down to this...

        Eriksen (whm, AVL)

        AJ (mun/WBA, SWA)

If I go by form, AJ has to go...

Sunderland are playing different tactics now, and AJ disappears in games...

Eriksen is playing well and should be heavily involved any Spurs goals...

He's back, but I don't think he's gonna play. The team is doing just fine without him. I had him starting this GW, but I knew in the back of my mind that it was a stretch considering that Sunderland tied Man City and beat Chelsea without his services. Now, they have won again without him. Not sure he gets back in the squad, save for a Vergini injury. Or maybe he gets one out of the two DGWs. He's probably not worth it even if he is playing and is cheap. The guy has been a huge letdown for me in FPL.

Assuming JT is fit for Norwich, any hits to remove a SGWer worth it?
