With Aaron Ramsey and Wayne Rooney sidelined through injury and suspension last weekend, the community was on the hunt for heavy hitters in attack and midfield. Luckily our community articles, hot topics and members’ tables were packed full of detailed analysis on their replacement options.

The Community Articles

Arvin-ation nailed this week’s top discussion this week; what to do with Ramsey and Rooney, now that both players are set for spells on the sidelines. Here’s his list of the likely replacements owners should be considering. He was back again at the end of the week with another excellent trio of attacking punts ahead of the forthcoming Gameweek.

I decided to turn my hand to community writing and have a look at Fantasy Premier League bonus points among defenders, to discover which players were benefitting this season. Applebonkers, Doosra and Ludo are among those to add some excellent research to the ensuing discussion.

Among our regular scribes, Sticky Mockwell was back with a look at the latest bandwagons and how well they performed in light of heavy previous investment. So far his hypotheses that patience is a virtue remains true.

The start of a new month means we take a look back at the previous few weeks’ articles to find the community’s favourite piece. The overwhelming victor in September’s poll was The Puntmaster with his weekly trio of differentials. So far two out of three of his picks have brought points each week. We strongly urge you to read his recommendations for Gameweek 7.

Another regular writer to do well in the poll was The Sarjeant. He was back again this week with his regular Form Guide ahead of the weekend’s fixtures.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

Hottest Topics

The Rooney and Ramsey injuries also dominated community discussion this week as we looked over the likely replacements. Why is Pardew for Kinnear started the discussion off with this look at the best exit strategy for the pair.

For Ramsey owners, Southampton’s midfield assets have caught the eye for many community members such as The Sarjeant, who started this discussion on the credentials of Dusan Tadic and Sadio Mane to replace the Arsenal man. Ludo, meanwhile, had been looking closer to home for a Ramsey replacement and recommended his team mate Jack Wilshire.

Gylfi Sigurdsson’s poor recent form also came under the spotlight, with some community members considering ditching the Swansea midfielder. However, Triggerlips has been looking into his underlying statistics though and urges patience.

Another tough decision the community faced this week was which champion should represent them in this week’s Scout Picks. With the community champions trailing in fourth behind Paul, Mark and myself, you decided to opt for Greenwindmill’s idea to base his picks on our Rate My Team computer’s decisions. Can a machine prosper where mere mortals have failed?

There was less optimism about the technology behind UEFA’s official Champion League Fantasy game, after further technical glitches left managers frustrated this week. Our man Anorak has been in touch with the game’s developers and called on the community to give their views on where it has gone wrong. He’ll be passing on all your comments to them in a bid to help them improve their game.

Finally, Costra Nostra has been taking a look at one of the golden rules of Fantasy management of never taking a hit for a defender. He urged Fantasy managers to instead think beyond that initial Gameweek and look to the long term when assessing whether the initial four-point hit will subsequently pay off.

The Members Tables

Those eyeing up Southampton’s Tadic as a Ramsey replacement will be pleased to see the midfielder featuring prominently in my top crossers table.

For those looking for Wayne Rooney replacements Erlando’s minutes per chance on goal table is a must read. This has a minimum criteria of 10 shots in the box to ensure only the most potent attackers are featured.

Meanwhile, Gigging Order has been taking an in depth look at the Chelsea midfield to assess the best option from its midfield in terms of goal attempts.

Following my community article on FPL bonus points among defenders, Doosra has updated his Bonus Burglars table to pinpoint defenders who perform well in the key Bonus Point System (BPS) areas of clearances, blocks and interceptions (CBI), tackles and passing.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

The Tinkerman has shot to the top of the Fantasy Football Scout moderators and contributors league in FPL, closely followed by Paul, who tops the moderators and contributors league in the Ultimate Fantasy Premier League game.

The Puffinboy Memorial Cup league, dedicated to one of our first posters, continues to be led by Rasping Drive, who with an overall rank of 636th also has number one status in the FFS Old Farts Club and FFS Dead Zone leagues.

AZ’s Early Bird Cup reaches the final this weekend when DT42, who defeated AZ in last week’s semi-final, will take on Dusan Citizen, who dispatched Costa- The Chosen One.

Finally, India and New Zealand are the teams to beat in the FFS UEFA Hockey World Cup team competition. They are the current group leaders going into this weekend’s matches.

Silva and Dyer rose yesterday, no popular fallers.

Siggy, Vardy and Aguero rose the day before, Adebayor was the only faller of note.

First off; Is Downing even worth considering? I know he has decent stats, but its still Downing. And what do people think about Dzeko/Balotelli? Is it even close?

Remember Downing at Villa. A regular points scorer who had an FPL price in excess of 8m.

      I wouldn't count him out.

Flip side, is why did loads of people bring in Balotelli/Falcau when they continue to flatter to deceive.

Form, form, form is everything. 😉

Not counting him out, but he seems like a player that can play decently for his team and get some assists. Goalthreat, not so much. Gotta lose Chadli, but considering keeping him this home game and having 2 FT after the international break.. Same with Balo. I dont really see him/LFC getting it on, but gaining the extra FT gives so much more room to play with after the break. Also the fixture is good, disregarding form..

Who cares about the name... Downing is producing & he's proven he can put up a 160pt+ season.

I don't think you can have Dzeko as Jovetić will eat into his game time.

As for Balotelli, his fixtures look incredible & the return of Sturridge can only help his prospects.

Its not about the name, its about the quality following the name. This 160 point season is 2 years ago and hes failed to even have 3 good games in a row since. Not buying it.

Between Jovetic and Aguero i reckon one of them will be injured 75% of the time anyway, so plenty of gametime for Dzeko and he is Pellegrinis favourite, somewhat.

And yeah, think i might just keep Balo and hope that Sturridge helps him out.

Soton have conceded very few big chances and Spurs created few, could be a tight game. Duff offers little (i guess? havent seen him play much) and with key injuries and a bad defeat last round they`ll be struggling. Myself wondering about Neil Taylor vs Bertrand, which one to play..

Dont think ADM is captain material. Still very unsure of his fpl value. Great player, insanely good actually, but if you look at the points hes actually gotten this far, only the goal vs Leicester has been "intentional", if you can call it that. And he was poor last game, by far his worst game in the United shirt.

    Tough tough decisions to make..
    Which 3 should I start?
    A) Cahill
    B) Naylor
    C) Moore
    D) Clyne
    E) Chester (Won't play)

I'm currently set on A,B and C but is benching an attacking fullback going to haunt me?

Yeah, i do. They need 3 points and with Jovetic/Nasri out, id say theyll keep the 442. Villa beat them last year, too. And even if Aguero only gets 30 minutes, he can bang a brace anyway, hes that good.

I heard Jovetic had a cameo during UCL? Ahh ya thats true. I'm just hoping he lasts the 90 and scores more than 6 points. I'm just banging on Yaya to get some of his form back and Silva doing well in order to help Aguero perform to his maximum.

He got 5 minutes at the end. Still a while until he starts a game imo, with his injuryproblems in the past. Yaya looks fat and uninterested, combined with his usual lazyness. Silva has been playing well already.

If you want to keep the high rank and play "safe", you should pick who you think most people at your rank will pick, too. To minimize the swings. I dont like this way of playing, but then again ive never had a particularly high ranking to protect either. Always been chasing/making early mistakes.

Idk.. Is top 22k considered high? My highest ever was 69k and that was at the end of last season. LOL Yes, I have been always chasing up people due to mistakes made early season...I prefer to go with my gut feeling I guess instead of following the crowd (what fun is that) How's your season going so far?

Yeah 22k is great this early. Exactly, thats atleast how i play too. But sometimes the generic way is the smart play, atleast when it comes to captain picks since they are so crucial. Its going pretty meh, 225k atm. Rough early season, burning WC and such. Just playing for fun this season, trying to regain some interest in this game and bpl in general.

I thought among the ppl here 22k would be meh. Captains really swing the gameplay a lot. Esp when u are chasing or trying to hold on the lead. Ahh FPL is really a good way to gain interest in EPL as a whole. I learnt that from last season! Hang in there you would come back and do well! My normal start to a season is roughly about 1m + so you are doing way better.

After the Villa game I doubt BR will be 'smart' and rest him again. I'm just hoping my MF delivers this week after a horror show last week. Ya there's always a chance Sterling's mins will be managed to avoid burnout..

Sterling has been very up and down this season. He played an insane amount of football this calendar year and its taking its toll, and we have more players to rotate him with now. But yah, we need the win and Sterling is our go to guy, so i would be fairly surprised if he didnt start.

Yup me too. He is a great talent and has many years ahead of him, so I guess in a way BR is right to protect him. We all know what happened during his first season and he suffered a horrible burnout the second portion of the season. Btw, thanks for the help and replies! 🙂

Not to mention he was absolutely horrible in the first few months of last season. So he definitely needs protection and still is rather swingy. But hes an amazing talent and really our most important player along with Studge. Np man, enjoying the discussions:)

He has his fantastic days and off days so often it's quite hard to judge his ability. I agree he is liverpool's most impt player along with Sturridge. But I'm amazed at how much he grew last season in terms of play

Fab was very close to a rise on FPLStatistics, but they had Pelle 9 percent short.

If caulker got to 4.5 i'd buy him, would be a great bargain at that price

Caulker owners who were planning on selling him this weekend must be distraught by his timing, after seeing him hang on for so long! Lol

Naismith must be the most volatile player this season. First up 0.6, and now down 0.4 in around 13 days. Has any other player had 1.0 in price changes yet in total?

It's the cheap striker curse. First it was Bojan, now Naismith... Ulloa will follow in a few weeks.

Yep. What goes up must come down in the case of cheapie strikers... Ulloa, i would be amazed if he doesn't go 4-5 games without a goal or assist soon & his price wil plummet too.

I'm giving him the Burnley and Newcastle games and then I'm selling in gw9 regardless, after earning a tidy sum on him. 0.4 already. Pump and dump as trigger calls it 🙂

I wouldn't be so sure. Ulloa is the centerpiece of their offense. You can't say that about Bojan or Naismith.

Do you not think leicester will eventually struggle though? I know they've done very well so far, but shirley the pace of the premiership will carch up with them soon, maybe not & ulloa will get 15-20 league goals... That's another 10-15 on top of the 5 he has already

So I've taken a punt on Downing, in for Ramsey. Lets see how this goes

I was on verge of doing same... But i did a comparison in members area on downing vs moses... Over last 4 games... Moses underlying attacking stats are actually much better than downing's, so i went with victor. Que a downing 12 pointer 😉

True. But Downings fixtures are much better 😉

And Moses doesn't tend to get bps points either

Diame was another one i was considering, but his stats werent all that super, even though bruce is nearly playing him as a second striker... Chris brunt & larsson on their days can bring in good points too... I just needed a sub 6.0m for rambo so i could do hazard & duff > Mane & Baines next week for everton's good run. No doubt injuries will derail that plan!

Yea hdowning does have the fixture factor... I rarely use the members area tho so decided to make a decision based on those stats tables for once.... Time will tell whether it pays off!!
