Our Monday regular is rolled out once again, as we scour the Premier League treatment rooms to assess the players who picked up injuries over the weekend action.

Aston Villa
Gabby Agbonlahor was named in the starting XI to face City but was forced to withdraw prior to kick-off due to illness.

Burnley
Right-back Kieran Trippier is set to be assessed after he was stretchered off with an ankle injury during the 2-2 draw at Leicester – after the match, Sean Dyche was hoping the injury isn’t as bad as first feared.

Chelsea
Thibaut Courtois was subbed off midway through the first-half of yesterday’s win over Arsenal due to a head injury. The club have since confirmed the keeper has been given the all-clear after undergoing precautionary tests and is expected to turn out for Belgium over the international break.

Crystal Palace
Scott Dann is set for knee scans after being forced off just 12 minutes into the weekend loss at Hull.

Everton
Steven Pienaar lasted just 64 minutes of the weekend loss at United before being forced off with a possible recurrence of the thigh injury that had kept him on the sidelines since Gameweek 2. John Stone was stretchered off at Old Trafford, with Roberto Martinez a little worried in his initial prognosis:

“It’s a ligament problem in his ankle. We are going to assess him in the next 48 hours. It’s such a massive blow because, as you have seen today, he plays with an incredible arrogance and great maturity. It’s not for me to say yet [whether he will be fit for England] because we need to get the medical department to assess him. But for him to come off, then I don’t expect John to be fully fit for next week.”

Hull
Ahmed Elmohamady was subbed off in the dying minutes of the weekend win over Palace due to injury.

Leicester City
Esteban Cambiasso missed out with a recurrence of a knock picked up at Palace last week. The Argentine had previously been passed fit by Nigel Pearson but was unable to make the squad for the 2-2 draw with Burnley.

Man City
Fernandinho will be assessed after picking up a hamstring problem during the weekend win at Villa, Manuel Pellegrini confirmed post-match.

Man United
Luke Shaw was withdrawn midway through the second half of United’s win over Everton yesterday but after the match, the left-back revealed he expects to turn out for the upcoming internationals:

“It’s not a bad injury, it’s a dead leg on my knee. I felt it in the first 20 minutes when I got caught but it carried on during the game so I thought it was probably best to come off before it gets any worse. I spoke with the doctor and obviously the manager as well and both feel it’s best that I do go [with the England Under-21s] as it’s not an injury that is going to keep me out. Hopefully, I should be training in the next couple of days and can get another two games of 90 minutes each.”

Post-match, it was also revealed that Paddy McNair had suffered a hamstring injury in the 2-1 victory. The young defender was forced to withdraw from the Northern Ireland squad for their forthcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers with reports claiming that he could be sidelined for three weeks.

Newcastle
Magpies right-back Daryl Janmaat has puled out of international duties for Holland after picking up a hamstring problem during the weekend draw at Swansea.

Stoke City
After overcoming a thigh problem for the trip to Sunderland, Victor Moses was subbed off with a recurrence of the problem, with Mark Hughes explaining:

“Victor came off against Newcastle on Monday and we had him scanned. Nothing showed up and we were hoping that it was just a neural thing but he felt it almost immediately and had to come off. We lacked his drive and the purpose that he’s given us in recent games and although him going off disrupted us, it’s not an excuse as we should have been able to compensate for that.”

Sunderland
Emanuele Giaccherini and Ricardo Alvarez missed the 3-1 win over Stoke through injury and post-match, Gus Poyet admitted the duo, along with Seb Coates, “are going to be out for a while”.

Tottenham
Kyle Naughton was an early casualty in yesterday’s win over Southampton – the right-back was subbed off midway through the first period after sustaining an ankle injury as a result of a challenge from Ryan Bertrand.

    Want more opinions

    Changes over the break?

    Bego
    Ivan - Clyne - Pieters - Naylor - Moore
    Fab - Sterling - Siggy - ADM - Boyd
    Costa - Pelle - Welbeck

    2.7m in bank, 2 FTs.

    1. Should my priority be getting Kun in for Pelle? That would involve swapping Ivan -> 5.5 defender.

    2. Should I be looking to replace Pieters? Best move at present looks like Pieters -> Baines. But then I might bank the 2nd transfer and save it to use to downgrade Bego and Ivan next week to get Kun.

    1 or 2?

Option 2 gives you the classic kunless kick arse team. Id go for that, hope for the best without kun, save your other ft and then be happy you have a back-up plan to get him for just one hit if it proves to be the wrong decision

    Aguero Costa Ulloa

Would you make any changes? One FT, 2.5mil

Would really appreciate some guidance, folks. What would you do with this lot. 1FT, 3.3m ITB ...

    Krul
    Baines, Clyne, PVA, (Naylor, Dummet)
    Siggy, ADM, Fab, Sterling (Wanyama)
    Costa, Welbz, Pelle

Bring in Chelsea keeper? Dummet for Azpi / Ivan? Something else?

That would give you rotation & security.
You'll play Krul this Gw so you may feel it's worth saving transfer at the very least until internationals are played.

Your team looks good, AdM's on fire but if I didn't have him I don't think I'd be getting him right now with their run of fixtures.
I'll be ditching PvA for Baines soon but I need a little dosh to do that but you've got decent coverage in defence with Cahill & Baines nailed every week.

What to do with this lot?

    DDG/Gilks
    Chester/Cahill/Duff/Dummet/Clyne
    ADM/Siggy/Sterling/Downing/Marney
    Costa/Pelle/Aguero

    1.7 ITB

    A) Bring In Baines (Cahill would have to be his replacement unless I take a hit)
    B) Replace DDG (Tough fixtures after West brom)

Is Baines playing for England currently ... obviously it's worth holding off until he gets through the next 11 days unscathed ... but that imminent price-rise makes you ponder the gamble!

Is a good point you make. I've got 0.3 to play with so not really fussed ... but if it were buy him now or not be able to avoid him it's a tight decision. Just wait for him to slam a goal and assist for England and things will go nuts on here 🙂

Where do you see the line on this TM?

An early transfer cost 4pts to fix if it turns out to be the wrong move. Let's say there is a 25% of that occurring (which is on the high side) so every 4 times you do it, once you are forced to transfer them back out. On average that costs you 1 pt each time.

Could you make that 1 pt back with an extra 0.1m? Or more easily framed, could you make 10 pts by the end of the season with an extra $1m today?

I believe you can which is why I do early transfers at this stage of the season if it will make me 0.1m sell price (ie 2 rises or 1 fall)

Let's say Baines doesn't get injured but 1/2 core players do? You are forced into hits where Baines could have waited a week. Really wish Welbeck got a red card. Would have been a great lesson.

They were 2.9% out on one a day or two ago someone said. Even when FISO had it very close early in the season (before everything went wrong) there was still a little wiggle room. I think the FPL Stats team are doing pretty well if they're getting it right with a ~3% margin of error.

Agreed they are way ahead than the rest for risers.
Why are they losing accuracy? Should be going the other way if on top of it. Things change daily but they don't know at what rate.

I don't think they're going backwards. I think there's just an element of randomness in the calculations, probably as a result of wildcards. As the number of wildcards played each week diminishes and players reset after rises and falls the calculations should become more consistent I think. But if a player has been particular popular or unpopular with wildcard players it might affect their rise/drop thresholds a bit.

FPL Stats is a little conservative, FISO a bit aggressive. I would say if FISO says they will go up, you should expect they might. If FPL Stats says they will go up, they will go up.

I dont like to wish for players getting injured but it would certainly help my cause rather than hinder it at the minute. Bit early for Walcott. I will wait and see how he plays first. Though he was back with a bang last year before limping out

Hey all, grateful for some guidance here. i have 1 FT and 0.1 in the bank. I don't mind taking a point hit, if need be:

    Forster (Gilks)
    Clyne, Taylor, Wilson (PVA, Chambers)
Fabregas, Siggy, Sterling, Di Maria (Albrighton)
    Pelle, Diego Costa, Aguero

Thinking of bringing in a high scoring back (Ivanovic, Baines) and dropping one of my big midfielders (Sterling, Fabregas) for a mid price option such as Chadli. Also, should I be trying to squeeze Wellbeck in there?

    Grateful for any advice.

That's the ideal front 7 imo. I'm missing ADM coz I chose Baines over him. Good team. A West Ham defender or keeper might be a good idea.

Both have high ownership. Are you willing to risk taking out Fab with the amt of assists he has gotten and Sterling with his good fixtures ahead? I guess for this week it's better to save the FT to use it for next week, when everton's good fixtures kick in.

Pelle looks solid for now, so you should stick with him. He has quite a lot of good fixtures ahead. Plus there's internationals this week so I wouldn't want to make any transfers till they are all done, in case of injuries.

      Hope this helps!

International breaks are just the worst. Maybe we could join forces with club managers, who don't want the potential injuries, and get them somewhat reduced! Teams like Italy, Germany and Spain are always going to qualify for euros and world cups so give them free passes for major tourneys. Just have a few select play offs to decide the remaining teams. This may sound crazy but in my fantasy world it works cos it don't disturb our season and you would end up with the same teams present anyway. And when players get injured on international duty it just ain't on. Don't get me wrong I like having the tournaments in a summer but interrupting the season to have something as pointless as England vs San Marino is very very annoying.

    1. BeachBadger
      • 12 Years
      11 years, 2 months ago

Elitism. We all know Spain and germany and co are gonna qualify but you have to give the others at least a fighting chance. They can't improve unless they get competitive games against the bigger teams. May not mean much to you, but those ticket sales from the England game could mean a lot to the San Marino FA. (San Marino might be a bad example of this as they seem quite rich 😆 but Im sure they dont pump money into football)

      Short memories.
      England didn't qualify for 3 world cups 74, 78 & 94 & didn't need to qualify for 66 & 70 (cough cough) so have only qualified for 8/13 world cups since 62.
When do we decide these things? Not that long ago we wouldn't have seen major championships without the Czechs.
Belgium, Poland, Hungary & the old Yugoslavia were major forces at a time when Spain failed to make a dent on the International stage.
So make this rule now? Why? because it suits the money league/nations yet again.
Come on, this breaks almost all the rules and unexepected surprises of watching this game.

        - Dzeko had a higher threat rating than aguero this week despite not scoring any points (84 to 73) and second for threat overall (only to Cisse's 109).

        - Dzeko's had 21 shots this season so far... fifth overall (Aguero 25, Pelle/Balo 23, Costa 22). 17 of those were inside the box, fourth overall (Aguero/Pelle/Costa 20).

        - Aguero's shot accuracy this season is consistent with last (48 this to 48.8 last) whereas Dzeko's performing within himself (19 to last season's 36.9)

He's also played exactly 15 fewer minutes than Aguero - hardly massive (though I appreciate that Aguero started the season with a knock). And he's not about to fly all over the world for some friendlies - have you seen Aguero's international fixture list?

        Krelliot
        Ivan - Clyne - Wilson
        Fab - Sterling - ADM - Siggy
        Costa - Aguero - Ulloa

        2ft, 1.1 itb. can't get both

Captaincy for next week has more viable options than usual

ADM, Aguero, Costa, Hazard, Sterling, Sanchez, Welbeck, possibly Baines if you've the guts.

Costa for me atm, but it's close.

Costa for me I think. Pelle looks good also.

Forgot to add Pelle too, yes. He's not in my thoughts for the armband, just hope he scores well.

I have Costa, Aguero, Sterling and I could be bringing in one of Welbeck or Baines.
For me, it's only Costa, unless he gets injured, in which case it's Sterling.

Baines - never captain, never bench!

Although if you had gonads the size of watermelons it's a tempting prospect!

Has to be Costa... Especially if Dann is out.

Could be tempted by Welbeck but is risky. Hull arent that bad. Has to be Costa realistically.
