Our Monday regular is rolled out once again, as we scour the Premier League treatment rooms to assess the players who picked up injuries over the weekend action.

Aston Villa
Gabby Agbonlahor was named in the starting XI to face City but was forced to withdraw prior to kick-off due to illness.

Burnley
Right-back Kieran Trippier is set to be assessed after he was stretchered off with an ankle injury during the 2-2 draw at Leicester – after the match, Sean Dyche was hoping the injury isn’t as bad as first feared.

Chelsea
Thibaut Courtois was subbed off midway through the first-half of yesterday’s win over Arsenal due to a head injury. The club have since confirmed the keeper has been given the all-clear after undergoing precautionary tests and is expected to turn out for Belgium over the international break.

Crystal Palace
Scott Dann is set for knee scans after being forced off just 12 minutes into the weekend loss at Hull.

Everton
Steven Pienaar lasted just 64 minutes of the weekend loss at United before being forced off with a possible recurrence of the thigh injury that had kept him on the sidelines since Gameweek 2. John Stone was stretchered off at Old Trafford, with Roberto Martinez a little worried in his initial prognosis:

“It’s a ligament problem in his ankle. We are going to assess him in the next 48 hours. It’s such a massive blow because, as you have seen today, he plays with an incredible arrogance and great maturity. It’s not for me to say yet [whether he will be fit for England] because we need to get the medical department to assess him. But for him to come off, then I don’t expect John to be fully fit for next week.”

Hull
Ahmed Elmohamady was subbed off in the dying minutes of the weekend win over Palace due to injury.

Leicester City
Esteban Cambiasso missed out with a recurrence of a knock picked up at Palace last week. The Argentine had previously been passed fit by Nigel Pearson but was unable to make the squad for the 2-2 draw with Burnley.

Man City
Fernandinho will be assessed after picking up a hamstring problem during the weekend win at Villa, Manuel Pellegrini confirmed post-match.

Man United
Luke Shaw was withdrawn midway through the second half of United’s win over Everton yesterday but after the match, the left-back revealed he expects to turn out for the upcoming internationals:

“It’s not a bad injury, it’s a dead leg on my knee. I felt it in the first 20 minutes when I got caught but it carried on during the game so I thought it was probably best to come off before it gets any worse. I spoke with the doctor and obviously the manager as well and both feel it’s best that I do go [with the England Under-21s] as it’s not an injury that is going to keep me out. Hopefully, I should be training in the next couple of days and can get another two games of 90 minutes each.”

Post-match, it was also revealed that Paddy McNair had suffered a hamstring injury in the 2-1 victory. The young defender was forced to withdraw from the Northern Ireland squad for their forthcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers with reports claiming that he could be sidelined for three weeks.

Newcastle
Magpies right-back Daryl Janmaat has puled out of international duties for Holland after picking up a hamstring problem during the weekend draw at Swansea.

Stoke City
After overcoming a thigh problem for the trip to Sunderland, Victor Moses was subbed off with a recurrence of the problem, with Mark Hughes explaining:

“Victor came off against Newcastle on Monday and we had him scanned. Nothing showed up and we were hoping that it was just a neural thing but he felt it almost immediately and had to come off. We lacked his drive and the purpose that he’s given us in recent games and although him going off disrupted us, it’s not an excuse as we should have been able to compensate for that.”

Sunderland
Emanuele Giaccherini and Ricardo Alvarez missed the 3-1 win over Stoke through injury and post-match, Gus Poyet admitted the duo, along with Seb Coates, “are going to be out for a while”.

Tottenham
Kyle Naughton was an early casualty in yesterday’s win over Southampton – the right-back was subbed off midway through the first period after sustaining an ankle injury as a result of a challenge from Ryan Bertrand.

Sterling if he plays both England games, i think Rodgers will rest him for that game, hoping he doesnt as an owner myself, but just a feeling unless Hodgson rests him vs San Marino

Not much between them really, Chelsea seem to be tightening up at the back. If you have no other pressing concerns in your team then you may as well go for it, though.

The more I look into Arsenal's fixtures, the less clean sheets I can see them getting. But yeah, if he wasn't suspended then I probably would've done that... It sucks how he's out for one of their best fixtures.

Hey guys. I posted a bit of a rant about the scoutcast yesterday and it got me to thinking about putting a more positive swing on it, Seeing as it's international break and we're all not up to much, I'll ask ye all:

How would you improve the Scoutcast?

    Heaton
Baines, Clyne, Van Aan, Duff, Moore
    Maria, Hazard, Tadic, Sigurdsson, Tiote
    Costa, Pelle, Luka
    In bank: £1.3m
One transfer that I am considering is Luka to Welbeck. Other was Tadic to Sterling but not sure...

    Foster / Krule
Terry / Bertrand / Van Aanolt / Hutton / Dummet
Fabregas / Di Maria / Sterling / Siggy / Chadi
    Uolla / Welbeck / Costa

    £4.0 in he bank

    A) Downgrade Terry and upgrade Welbeck-->Aguero for a hit?
    B) Dummet--->Baines
    C) Save it
    D) another option?

i figured there is a way for us to play the well sought after formation of

    1-6-3

    3 forward
    4 midfield

and... Clyne baines ivan which i consider the latter two as a 7mil midfielder. and a penalty taker at that

too heavy they said, but im in for their attacking threats considering CS is hardly comes by nowadays anyway. well CS is always a bonus if they knicked 1,

so... anybody else who is going for the same boat of clyne baines and ivan?

There's a sound logic to that.
I'm looking at it after the internationals but will need to take a hit so I'll mull on it.

Yep. I really need to downgrade Fab/ADM/Sterling to beef up my defence. ADM's form and Sterling's fixtures lean me towards Fab but with over 50% ownership it'd be scary to be without him 🙁

Why Mangala Innsie? It's a bit of reassurance for myself. I swapped Mangala for Terry in my draft side and I feel it was a really bad move.

City's defence is a nice little differential I reckon, and Mangala's got good goal threat. I expect City to tighten up with Mangala and Kompany partnership.

Ownership and explosiveness. Could really hurt if he gets a big score. Highest scoring mid in the game. Haul away at old Trafford suggests kinda fixture proof. I own both btw.

Gilks looks like dropping. As my 2nd GK backup to Gilks I should just leave it, right? Or would it be worth the .5/6m to bring in Foster/Guzan to rotate?

I do too. But Burnley's struggles with injuries and Gilks' potential price drop have me considering it. The rotation is decent for Burnley's tough fixtures.

I'd just have begovic(which I do) or Forster and play them every week. Don't worry about the other one. I was looking for a 3.9 on wc just to save the 0.1. Didn't find one so got McCartney. Every transfer is worth 4 points so it ain't worth a transfer at all IMO.

Oh well yeah. I don't want to be harsh but it really does show that toughness and resilience is a huge part of playing through/coming back from injuries and succeeding as a footballer. Many would say Rooney's been slow to find form when coming back when the truth is he's returned astonishingly quickly from his injuries.

Yeah I guess that's correct. He's always back in for 90 mins straight away anyway. Thing about tooney is he's streaky, if he scores get him in as he can score for weeks in a row. But if he's not scoring that can go on and on.

Assuming an uneventful international break, I'm looking at doing Rafael + Moore -> Baines + Reid (for free). Good moves? Here's the rest of my team:

    Forster / Hamer

Di Maria / Siggy / Sterling / Downing / Cork
    Costa / Aguero / Pelle

After taking a couple of economic and math classes this year I have realised an error in our thinking.

We regularly read into points per million (ppm) when comparing players. I don't have the time to do this analysis but for those spreadsheet masters out there, an accurate representation would be points per million over the minimum alternative cost.
    For example:
baines at 7m ppm should be points per 3m as the minimums replacement is worth 4.0
    ADM at 10m ppm should be points per 5.5m (10.0 - 4.5)
    Aguero at 12.0 ppm should be points per 8.5m (12.0 - 5.5)

Would lead to significantly more accurate multi position analysis and with an international break upon us I hope there is one of the many math and spreadsheet genius' on this sight that has the time to delve.

You compare them to other players at their lowest. Eg comparing Boyd to Moore.

Divided by what? You suggested that a 7m defender should be points per 3m. Is a 4m player rated on points per 0m?

I get (and appreciate) the concept, just see a gaping hole in the application 🙂

It's obviously a subjective argument as football doesn't translate to baseball statistically. But the simple way to do it is to identify the impact players at a position then look at the relative value comparatively across the board.

Grumpy, this has always been on my mind but didnt know how to explain it!

Baines and Boyd in your team

      or

Clyne and any mid up to 6.5 (Siggy???!!)

      (used season starting price)

The extra cash and the points scored by the 'alternative players' should always be on you mind

    3. BeachBadger
      • 12 Years

Hmm interesting thought but it doesnt factor in the difference in the base level players. How does a 5.5m striker compare to a 4.0 defender? I'd fancy theres probably more value in the base defender.

      1. Grumpy Camel
        • 13 Years
        11 years, 2 months ago

I agree with this concept too. It's for wiser mines than mine to work out the infinite finer details. Comparing a 7m defender to a 7m midfielder is not correct as my suggestion is not entirely correct. The point is that the opportunity cost (for the economists) of a player should be taken into account.
        Example. (Incorrect numbers)
        Moore ppg = 3.0
        Baines ppg = 6.2
        3.2points / 3m = 1.06 points per million

        Boyd ppg = 3.0
        ADM ppg = 7.3
        4.3/5.5 = 0.78 points per million

If these numbers were correct baines is a much better upgrade

Certainly food for thought alright. At the end of the day though The simplest solution is often the best. Take a defender and mid combo as a unit and see which you prefer. Of course there are other factors still at play.

I'm not buying that hype yet.

Early bandwagon? He also seems rotation proof out of the pool midfield

If he continues to play in that position, then maybe.

But I don't think he will. But only time will tell.

Sturridge out means we're none the wiser at the minute really. I'm considering doing Sterling to Hendo and get Baines in defence but Sturridge back could have a massive influence on Sterlings ability to rack up the points.

    a) Begovic + Ulloa to Guzan + Welbeck

    b) Falcao + Fabregas + Duff to Aguero + Chadli + Baines (-4)

    c) Find another way to use one of my FTs

      Of the two - I reckon A.

Feel like trading Ulloa out before Newcastle is probably a bad idea

Would you consider other Everton's defender apart from Baines as a cover for their upcoming tasty fixtures?

Actually jags and Coleman will both transpire as decent options IMO. Coleman overpriced but both will get points. Baines obviously the stand out option.

No reason to get Coleman over baines at the same price as baines is on penalties
7.0m is a lot but they have been playing better and have some really good fixtures to come plus Coleman to return as well

No. I'm struggling to convince myself I need Baines as it is.

if Coleman had several price falls again i'll consider him.

Howdy DZ. Was after some opinions in regards to my side

    Krul foster
    Clyne Bertrand Naylor pva duff
Cesc siggy sterling tadic Di Maria
    Aguero Costa vaz te

    2 FTs and 0 itb.

    Thinking one of the following:

    A) sakho and chadli
    B) naismith and chadli
    C) Welbeck and 4.6
    D) cisse and downing

Got 2 free transfers and trading tadic and vaz te to play a 3rd forward or or rotate chadli with others.

I'd keep the faith with Tadic, it's criminal he hasn't scored yet and Southampton have some tasty fixtures. If your hearts set though i'd probably go C

    Hazard-Silva-Sterling-Siggy
    Costa-Falcao-Pellé

    Subs: Gilks; Marney, Dummett, Hutton
    1ft, 0.0 itb

Tell me what's wrong with my team.

Prob save transfer or wait and see if any injuries over break. The two players I don't like are pva and terry but that's just prefernece. Wait and see for now.

Barring injuries, which option better? B cost more but I could afford.

    A. Welbeck and Baines
    B. Aguero and Chambers

Is aguero a must? Mean theres better value upfront but not as consistent!

He's not a must at the minute but he is ticking along alright. He starts exploding and then he will be a must but as of now i think you're okay going without

Not a must but he's a good (c) option, explosive and on pk. Flip side is his injury record and price. Don't let price put u off though, with elite players u have to overlook this.
