This week’s ScoutCast is a throwback – a return to the days when Granville moaned about his team of red flags and names like Robin van Persie and Yaya Toure dominated our thinking.

Granville and I slip into such subject matter like it’s a pair of old slippers, whilst assessing the Aguero fall-out, the Dzeko option, Ivanovic versus “Dave” Azpi and how I’ve modelled my Fantasy Football management style on Roy Hodgson.

We roll out the regulars and lament the demise of the ScoutCast team – eliminated in the opening round of our own cup competition. Some things never change.

Swim in nostalgia via this link or roll back the years via the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Haz, Sanchez, Yaya, Siggy
    Rooney, Kane, Sakho

Subs : Mccarthy, Yun, Moore*, Fabregas*

He might still play in central defense or even in midfield if Arsenal are short. But I feel regular gametime is unlikely.

Probably a weird question, but does anyone have any knowledge about how harsh the winter weather is expected to be, particularly in the Manchester area?

I'm asking because I'm deciding whether to go with Hart (with no playing 2nd GK), or to have Pantilimon/Fabianski rotating. If a City fixture gets called off then I'd be stuck with no GK!

      1. Puyol Pants Up

I think any fixture is the EPL has the potential to be called off. Not just in Manchester.

It's not just the weather after Christmas. You also have all the Cup games when they clash with a league fixture. Hart is a keeper worth having, but it's fairly certain a second keeper will be called upon at some point for most teams.
My opinion Rickardinho is that you really must have a fully playing bench, at worst with your Winter Wildcard.

          1. rickardinho
            • 11 Years
            11 years, 7 days ago

Yep, I agree, but all the signs point to Hart being a great choice. Just don't know if I want to expose myself to unnecessary risk though as a fixture is bound to get cancelled sooner or later

        B) Bartley

Bartley on very borrowed time depending on when Fernandez comes back which I think is supposed to be kind of soon. Saylor I know less on..so many different defender options they have there.

Wasilewski seems nailed...but he plays for a rubbish side with rubbish fixtures. Perhaps Saylor is a better option. Slim pickings in that barrel.

I think he got up to 65% last year. It's hard to say because of how high of a percentage of dead teams there are.

Couldn't agree more. Which is also why I am so pleased that the Aguero injury came at the time it did. Right when they have their best run of fixtures of the season to mix up the game a bit! Love it.

If you didn't captain him you would lose something like a half point for every one he scored. And he scored a lot.

              This is much better.

        Thoughts on this:

        Guzan (heaton)

Bertrand - Naylor - chambers (duff - Moore)

        Fab - Siggy - sterling - Eriksen ( Boyd )

        Costa - welbeck - aguero

        Thinking:
        Aguero --> van persie
        Chambers --> Hutton

Then next week: sterling & welbeck --> Sanchez & cisse

Dzeko is more nailed on imo, but it is a minefield

yep thatd why i was asking, found it odd that someone here wrote that, yet fpl has the guy at Calf injury - 25% chance of playing

if he was close to return, fpl will not have him at 25% AND YES AT 75% NO?

Never go by the FPL flags. theyre pretty much just guesswork and they tend not to change them too often

They had McCarthy red flagged for about 2 weeks even though he was on the bench at QPR

The mathematics behind Hart VS Fabianski/Pantilimon rotating:

Is a 6.0 Gk like Hart (and hence 10.0 gk budget) worth it, over a rotation costing 9.5 (eg. Fabianski/Pantilimon)? Let's do a step-by-step analysis:

To get in the top10k this season (which is my target) has so far required 843 points, which is a 56.2-point weekly average (ie. 843 divided by 15gw's).

My sell-value is 104.0, which means that each of the 56.2 points is costing me 1.85m per-GW on average (i.e 104 divided by 56.2).

RMT projections for next 8 GW's (until I use the Jan WC) suggest Hart will score 3.18pts more overall, which is an average of 0.4pts per week more (i.e. 3.18 divided by 8gw's):
        - Hart: 28.02
        - Fabianski/Pantilimon rotating: 24.84

So, is an increase of 0.4 pts per week worth 0.5m of my money per week? That ratio means I would pay 1.25m per-point (0.5m/0.4pts), which is significantly lower than the 1.85m per-point per-gw that I pay per-point on average.

So yes, it is worth it. In fact, it would be worth up to 0.74m per GW (1.85m x 0.4pts) to be precise.

Other factors are worth considering too:
        - If Hart gets injured/rested/suspended/fixture cancelled, then I don't have a 2nd GK
        - I may decide to use my Jan WC earlier, which would increase Hart's average value more (since the last 3 of his next 8 fixtures are the tough ones).

I have a lot of respect for your analysis of the game and I always seek your opinion. But I think you are over-analysing this

Thanks, you're probably right. I can't decide if I want the safety-netting of 2 playing GK's or just the one No.1. Doing my head in! 🙂
