As if out of sympathy for the Fantasy Premier League, or podcast recording software crashed at the death this week. Finished. Kaput.

Panic ensued – hands on head there were cries of “I can’t go through that again” from host Mark as I desperately attempted to recover our lost words. Luckily, temporary files restored, our fifty fourth episode was rescued and rebuilt like Ledley King’s knee. Hopefully it won’t collapse again next week – like Ledley King’s knee.

Within it you’ll find unusually muted tones as Mark and I dissect the events or rather “non-events” of the weekend. Frustrations vented, this week’s broadcast picks up to its usual pace and departs on an optimistic note.

        I'm happy to go without a City defender for a couple of weeks. I think my defence will score well enough with Baines and Cole.

        Possibly overkill on City but Villas fixtures can't be ignored. I think I'll go with this for now and see how it goes.

    I swore to myself I wouldn't get Baines as he's so expesnive plus the fact that Everton ALWAYS start badly...but his fixtures are hard to ignore and the Cech injury has handed us Hilario as a cheap route in to Chelsea defence.

    Someone please talk me out of this...

        Fixtures and form.

        Rooney and United look good for attacking points - irregardless of oppo.

        Suarez up against dodgy Arsenal defence...plus he's bang in form (for Uruguay and Pool)

        and O'Hara...well I just prefer him to the other 6mil options I suppose....

      You need a way to get Hilario out of your team when Cech comes back. 3-4 weeks time... and remember the internationals are on at the start of Sept. If he's back fit in 3 weeks, he'll be in contention against Sunderland on Sept 10, and that means Hilario will only have played twice.

      Rumours that Jagielka is going to Arsenal... that might weaken the Everton defence. Arteta is back as well so he could be on pens, and will take some free kicks. All this could affect Baines.

              I think Given is a good shout. Ivanovic didn't play the first game, so its a tough call to say who AVB will start at the back (apart from Cole).

              You could double up on villa if you're brave and go

              Given - Warnock - Cole

              I hate doubling up... but Villa's fixtures may be good enough to allow you to do it. Alternatively, pick Hilario, and keep cash in reserve to get Given once Cech is back.

                Not a fan of doubling up in defence...especially on mid table teams! I've reverted back to what I had previously now.

                then upgraded Brunt to N'Zog

                Personally reckon Bos will get the nod at right back - played there all of pre-season and AVB hasnt once played Ivan at right back.

      Exactly what I've done mate - allowed me to Get Baines in - see above. 🙂

      Really not sure about the Cghelsea defence.

      To be fair though - AVB has never played Ivanovic at right back. Only ever ben Bos or Ferriera. Even so, I think its wise to have a nailed on, which at the moment looks like Terry, Cole and Hilario. When Cechs back we should have an idea of what his first choice back 4 is...and make adjustments accordingly!

      Over the course of the season you'd do well, but could you hold on if Chelsea went on a 2/3 week bad spell.

      The issue with double/trebling up on a team is non-existent over a season (if you think those players are top value), think Johnson/Foster last season (double on BIR defence). But the problem is riding the ups and downs, when that team does badly - you do badly and you'll want to swap 1/2/3 of those for players who are doing well at the time.

    I can't see them resting Zamora, he's their main man.

    Interesting on Senderos though as he's in my team and I enjoyed the 6 points last week. It might be one of those where if they need to keep tight they'll have him in the middle and push hughes out wide and then when they want to attack they drop Senderos and put a more attacking full back in. Worth keeping an eye on.

      What if Given costs more than 0.5 more than Hilario? Quite possible and then you have a problem.

      Very cosmo of me but I'd go for a nice Papaya and Banana Smoothie in goal with a Mocha in reserve. I know they're and expensive pairing but they rotate perfectly.
