In today’s Scout Notes, a talented Saints winger receives the scorn of boss Ronald Koeman, Tottenham’s man of the moment continues his exceptional run and Everton’s record signing falls short once more. Elsewhere, Liverpool’s defence holds firm as they chase a top-four berth.

Kane the Spurs saviour

He may have left it uncomfortably late, but Harry Kane was once again on target for Tottenham as they clawed back a 2-0 deficit to secure a draw against West Ham. The 21-year-old striker has now netted 12 times in his last 11 league outings following a last-minute spot-kick at White Hart Lane, with only Sergio Aguero and Diego Costa (17 apiece) boasting a superior output than the English striker’s 14 this term.

With one eye on the Capital One Cup final and the midweek Europa League tie at Fiorentina, Mauricio Pochettino opted to rest Christian Eriksen, switching Erik Lamela to the left flank as Andros Townsend provided width on the right. Mousa Dembele – who’d piqued our interest recently with one goal and two assists in his last three matches – flattered to deceive in the first half and was replaced by the Danish playmaker at the break. Roberto Soldado’s introduction in the final 30 minutes instigated a formation change, with Kane dropping in behind the Spanish marksman in a 4-4-1-1 set-up.

The north Londoners now enter a blank Gameweek 27 before compensating with a double Gameweek in Gameweek 28 (SWA, qpr). Kane and Eriksen remain the frontrunners in terms of viable Tottenham coverage during that period, with no clear candidates emerging for that third berth. Danny Rose’s strike took his tally to two goals and three assists for the season, though, and at 4.8, he looks the value route into the Spurs backline right now. Looking beyond the double, the Lilywhites’ schedule (mun, LEI, bur, AVL, new) sees them match-up against the current bottom-three Premier League outfits, strengthening the long-term investment potential of Tottenham’s attacking contingent.

Kouyate’s scoring streak continues

With three goals in his last five league appearances against high-calibre opposition (tot, MUN, ARS), Cheikhou Kouyate is defying his modest 4.9 price tag. The rangy midfield general demonstrated his finishing prowess with a towering header in the first quarter of the Hammers’ match against Spurs, turning in a cross from full-back Aaron Cresswell. Diafra Sakho supplemented the Senegal international’s strike with one of his own, notching his second goal in four outings for Sam Allardyce’s side.

Fit-again Winston Reid partnered James Tomkins in West Ham’s central defence having returned to full fitness, while James Collins replaced substitute Carlton Cole late on. The Irons’ back line certainly has its hands full in the upcoming weeks, with another three consecutive London derbies (CRY, CHE, ars) on the horizon. With Sunderland, Leicester and Stoke also in the next six, Stewart Downing’s 28% owners will be desperate for a return to form. Fielded on the right of a 4-3-3 yesterday, his blank means he’s now managed just a goal and assist in his last nine.

Lukaku spurns his chances

In the wake of another frustrating afternoon at Goodison Park, Romelu Lukaku has now only mustered one goal in his previous 12 league outings for Everton. A hat-trick in the Toffees’ midweek Europa League tie seemed to augur an upturn in form for the physical Belgian frontman, yet he failed to force a save out of Leicester goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer in any of his nine attempts at goal. The big Belgian still managed to pick up a pair of assists, however, whilst fellow forward Steven Naismith opened the scoring with his second goal in six league matches, but Everton were unable to register their first home win since Gameweek 16.

Elsewhere, Leighton Baines replaced stand-in left-back Bryan Oviedo on his return from injury, while Aaron Lennon was reinstated in the starting line-up having been cup-tied for Everton’s 4-1 victory over BSC Young Boys. Tim Howard turned in a poor display between the posts which may give Roberto Martinez food for thought – the Toffees had registered three successive clean sheets with Joel Robles in goal prior to the US international’s return to the fray in Gameweek 25.

Leicester snap run of defeats

Leicester City exhibited signs of recovery in their closely contested draw with Everton. Nigel Pearson’s side broke a run of four defeats as Serie A veteran Esteban Cambiasso and David Nugent both tallied their third goals of the league campaign. Once again, Pearson kept faith in the new 5-4-1 formation, with Matthew Upson, Wes Morgan and Robert Huth fielded at centre-half, much to the detriment of Marcin Wasilewski’s 5% ownership. With no fixture this weekend and trips to City and Spurs in the upcoming four rounds of fixtures, it’s fair to say that few will be eyeing up the Foxes’ main men for now, though the schedule does take a turn for the better around the Gameweek 31 mark in the lead up to their Gameweek 34 double.

Liverpool’s resolute defence

Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Southampton in the final fixture of Gameweek 26 marked the Merseyside outfit’s fifth clean sheet in their last six outings. Furthermore, it’s the first time since 1985 that the Reds have recorded five consecutive shut-outs on the road.

Former Saints centre-back Dejan Lovren earned his first start of the year as he came in for the injured Mamadou Sakho, who needs a scan to assess the severity of his hip complaint. Jordan Ibe was fielded at right wing-back and Lazar Markovic at left wing-back in Brendan Rodgers’ 3-4-2-1 formation, leaving no room for Alberto Moreno in the starting line-up – the Spaniard was omitted from the XI for the first time since Gameweek 18.

Philippe Coutinho’s superb opener helped the Brazilian to his second double-figure return in the last four, whilst Raheem Sterling’s goal means he has now scored or assisted in five of his last seven league appearances. Elsewhere, Daniel Sturridge was only fit enough for a second-half cameo, having started both of the Reds’ previous two matches over the last eight days, with Rodgers clearly keen not to over-utilise his star forward.

Mane benched for tardiness

According to Saints boss Ronald Koeman, winger Sadio Mane was supposed to start at St Mary’s Stadium but was dropped to the bench as punishment for turning up late to the stadium. In his place, January loan-signing Filip Djuricic made his first start for the Hampshire club. Given that Graziano Pelle extended his goalless streak to nine appearances, having not scored since 20 December at home to Everton, it’s fair to expect that Mane will be reinstated to the first XI as Koeman attempts to address a run which has seen his side score once in the last four Gameweeks.

Elsewhere, the 3.9-priced Matt Targett was handed a start at left-back after recovering from a head knock, while Morgan Schneiderlin clocked 45 second-half minutes as he stepped up his return to action. With Ryan Bertrand now available again, though, after serving out his three-match suspension, Targett looks set to return to bench-warming duties.

Hey everyone. It's been quite a while since you've heard from me. Been incredibly busy with work and studies this past month. Despite giving no time to the game at all, I've been lucky enough to make my way into the top 10 worldwide. However, I think it is time that my luck runs out which is why I'm contemplating on 'selling' my team to one of you on the website. Given the limited time that I give to the game these days, I'm sure that one of you could contribute more than myself and give yourself a better shot at winning the FPL this season than I would. You can run the game with your name after taking over

If anyone of you is interested, I'd appreciate if you could email me your team link and a short description of your interest in the game in general at bigmanbakar@gmail.com

Seriously pal. It doesn't take too much time to manage an FPL team. 5 mins every day at max and you're sorted.

In both the seasons where I finished top 100, I was completely overwhelmed with work and made so many casual lucky decisions which worked for me.

Decision making by popular consensus. That's generally a poor way to make winning decisions. If you're really going to give it away just give it to an individual IMO.

Then we would all be able to benefit and means you can give back to the community rather than selling it to a randomer.

I genuinly think it would be great to vote each week on who to start/transfer/captain on the 'community team'. Obviously the site admins would need to be the only ones with access.

Well done but this is a pretty odd proposition. You have played all season to get to 10 and you don't want to try and win because you don't have time?! Pretty weird. Even people that are stacked, study and other commitments will achieve more if they take a small amount of downtime to do something they enjoy.

You need to spend less than an hour a week on fantasy football to make optimal decisions. Most people just spend more because they enjoy it. You don't even particularly need to watch the games, be clinical about your decision making and have a crack at winning.

How much money can you hope to gain from selling your team. Maximum £100... what's the point. And you can't make out that it's not about the money otherwise you would just give it a stab with the free 30 minutes a week you can afford to give up.

Lastly, what sort of person buys a FF team from someone. There's sad and then there's that.

at my peak levels of obsession, it took up way too much time and focus. Destroyed weekends. Kept me awake in the middle of the night where I am for random games like Stoke vs Leicester, WBA vs Burnley.

So I see where he is coming from. You don't get to 10th in the world without effort. Though I do think at his current rank and strategy, he can maintain a top 1k finish no problem, but just have to be more efficient about time spent on FPL to balance with his other priorities.

slot an hour of FPL deliberation in your schedule for Friday night. More than enough time to make key decisions. Still think you should maintain ownership of your team...otherwise, get all those screenshots done pronto! it's not every day you're top 10 in the world for something.

Congrats btw you jammy fook 🙂 It's been great exchanging opinions this season and last.

whole thing seems very odd to me....why would you come this far to give the team away, it's not only the prize but the glory of a good finish.

even if you ignore your team from now till end of season you will still have a great finish...

you should at least get someone to help you with the team, and split the prize...

You've given no time to the game to get to top 10, there's only a 1/3 of the season left. Why not just keep giving no time and see where it gets you?

I think that common sense should prevail here and I should admit that I've just been lucky - especially the past 3/4 weeks rather than carrying on with the slight hope of my luck not running out!

So there isn't anything going on that would prevent you from taking 20-30 minutes out of your week to have a quick look and do a transfer till the end of the season?

You just want to quit because you think your lucks ran out?

Nope I'm thinking of quitting because I think that anyone out of you guys can do a better job than myself with this team till the end of the season. For example, I'm completely unaware of the double gameweeks situation as well while most of you know what is going on so can make better choices

Everyone up there at the top has been ridiculously lucky at some point. I don't see what the harm of continuing is

O e alternative would be posting your team here every Friday, look at the suggestions and doing whatever you feel sounds like the best. You will be making the moves, not someone who randomly gets into the top 10 making pretty much the same moves

this is a good idea...keep control of your team and come on and ask us for advice....

if the issue you have is you think your luck has ran out then take advice from people you trust on FFS...

the whole game is about luck anyway. some skill involved of course, and just basic common sense.

i think it is such a shame you have done so well and come so far to hand over your team. i would say if you didn't touch the team or even made one obvious transfer a week you will still finish inside the top thousand which is a great achievement,

also about the double gameweek it's only 2 teams with a double and fixtures are not even that great.

You'd rather be able to say that you were Top 10 and gave it away than risk dropping in rank through actually playing the game? You're just about guaranteed a very decent rank if you just play safe and boring from here on in.

Id love to have a go taking a team over from the top 10 and perhaps on to winning it, but would never felt like I had truly won it if by some miracle I did.

I understand that your time is limited. But please don't give up the chance to win it unless you are really really sure, its highly unlikely you'll ever be in the this position again and i think you could manage it on just an hour or 2 a week. Ive been playing since 06 and have 4 top 5k finishes and am up there again this year so I know how hard it is.

Id be happy to contribute my opinion (for whatever thats worth!) and Im sure there are others who would be happy to help also. 🙂

What a thread. I think my favorite part of this whole thing is that when I took a look at your profile to check out your team, your previous post before this one was twelve days ago and just reads, "Coutinho (c)" -- exactly the kind of madness/genius thinking that crowdsourcing a team will likely not be able to achieve. Good luck, would love to see your minimalism carry you through.

Yours sincerely the guy 6 points behind you 🙂

In seriousness just keep going - the DGW business looks tricky but its not that hard. Just a case of debating if a few Spurs or QPR players might be worth bringing in. You also have 10 of my 15 players which makes progress pretty hard at the very top (unless you throw in some big punts and they come off)

...I also think that you might just barely be able to reach No 1 with 40 points to claw back. But you will need differentials and/or a captain punt to come off - the teams up top are so similar.

having been in a similar position as you , I can understand where you are coming from and just wanted to add my $.02 -

I would strongly suggest you persevere. I'm sure you are a good fantasy player but trust me - the chance to win comes only once. You'll remember this season even years later. I can understand why you want to quit - once the holy grail becomes so visible, you start feeling the pressure more. You focus on every nitty gritty , every decision even moreso because you're afraid the wrong move you make might be the 'fatal' one ..

It takes very limited time, go with your gut, its very noble of you to offer someone in the community a chance to experience the glory of winning fpl for the first time but trust me - stick with it. the experience of being in with a chance to win the fpl title on the last gameweek of season is something that very few are privileged to experience.. I lost out but had great memories of the season

Hello TFF. First of all congrats on the awesome rank. You have by far exceeded any achievements I have have ever managed in playing 6 seasons of FPL, so well done.

I enjoyed reading this thread also. Just goes to show the goodwill generated within FFS. And well done for posting.

HOWEVER. I would just like to highlight the fact that this is not the only FPL team you have linked to your username this season.

Earlier in the season you had multiple discussions with Rickardnho, and at the time, you both claimed to be first season FPLers. Your link at that time also pointed to that fact.

During one such discussion I interjected with a comment about how silly I was including the likes of Mascherano/ Lucas etc. in my very first season.

You agreed wholeheartedly about how, you, also had made similar mistakes in your first season. Despite having no FPL ranks in your history.

When I called you out on it, you decided not to comment. And now I see you have re-instated your original FPL account as your link.

I know this is really, really sad that I remember that conversation so clearly. I have googled and can't find a link also.

However, the fact remains that I remember clearly that you run 2 teams. Absolutely brilliant performance from you with your original account this year. But the my theory, and justifiably so, is that you started a new account this season and have switched to another.

I know this whole post sounds like sour grapes but I thought I would type it for clarity's sake and for the benefit of other FFS users.

If you want to deny it, go ahead. I will have to find a moment or two from my busy schedule ( just like you 😉 ) to delve deeper into google to find it.

Again, amazing rank, congrats, but man up and admit you have two teams.

I remember the discussion and this does seem more than a tad strange that a first season player, who was flagged up by RCA should now post this.

Just logged in and read all of your comments. Appreciate your concern.

As far as the multiple accounts saga is concerned, I don't know what it has to do with the thought of me giving up my FPL team. Yes I did run multiple accounts - there is no harm in admitting it. But two different accounts with the same team, the same captain and the same bench order week in week out (I don't know how that comes across as cheating) . However, I did delete the duplicate team in game week 20 when I thought I had a decent chance of having a crack at winning the FPL with my original side. If you find this to be misleading, have a look here:

        My original account : http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/49/history/
        My duplicate account : http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/358524/history/

Compare the ranks I have had this season with both accounts for proof that both the teams were the same. Every single rank till game week 20 is the same until the duplicate got deleted. I entered my duplicate team in the Team Orange league as well which is why I got removed from all leagues as soon as I deleted that account.

Even if now you have an element of doubt in your mind that I might have another duplicate team, just think about it - why on earth would I not give up that team and give up the one which is more highly ranked

Thank you to all those who have emailed me - I shall respond to each of you individually.

So you must have a shedload of teams then. If not you were planning on deviating at some point had it all gone pear shaped. So yeah, it's dubious.

Which begs the question, why the feck would you have 2 teams if they're just going to be identical? The only reason I can think of was IF it turned out well, like it has, then towards the end of the season you could differentiate the teams and give you two chances of winning.

I remember seeing two teams in equal 2nd I think it was earlier this season or last season that were the same person. One of them got deleted.

How many e-mails have you gotten? You are going to respond to each of them individually! How long will that take you?

You're completely unaware of the double gameweeks? It's not rocket science, it could be summed up in probably 30 words I would say. Stop fishing for likes.

"why on earth would I not give up that team and give up the one which is more highly ranked". Why on earth would you give up your team either way. It's a game, just play on ffs.

"Despite giving no time to the game at all"
You made transfers almost every week - that takes time, maybe just a few seconds, but still time

This reeks of attention seeking to me. And fair play to you, seems to have done the trick.

      Morning everyone,

Seems like I can't catch a break this season 🙁 Could really use your input.

What to do with my team with 2 Ft's? I'm pretty sure Oscar and Terry are going and might end up taking a hit to field 11!

      Panti
      Terry Fonte Bellerin PvA Baird
      Sanchez Hazard Oscar Cazorla Eriksen
      Aguero Kane Defoe

      A) Oscar, Terry > Silva + Bertrand, GW28: Defoe > Austin

      B) Oscar, Terry > Silva + Skrtel, GW28: Defoe > Austin

      C) Oscar, Terry, Baird > Silva, Bertrand, Naughton (-4)

      D) Oscar, Terry, Baird > Silva, Alderweild, Dawson (-4)

      E) Other

      Cheers

Bruce will play imo. Subbed off because QPR were down to 10 and Hull wanted to bring on more attacking players and shift away from their 3-5-2. I would be very confident of them going back to 3 CBs for a trip to Stoke.

Is Walcott and Wisdom to Silva and Dawson the best I can do here?

      Foster/Myhill
      Terry/Bertrand/Jones/Wisdom/PVA
      Sanchez/Walcott/Hazard/ADM/Boyd
      Aguero/Kane/Defoe

      2 FT, 0.8 ITB

Then I'd look at maybe ADM and PVA to Eriksen and Rose for a hit next week?

With this week's blank games and no other obvious captain i feel it's a punt week 🙂

i may only have 10 players currently but got 2FTs for the DGW at the moment and im planning to swap Defoe out for a 1 week punt, my picks would be Ings Cisse Benteke N'Doye Sturridge

Benteke is my preferred option (crazy i know) but Newcastle concede so many chances. he couldve easily got that goal but Sinclair beat him 2 it, also Sherwood's Spurs won 4-0 at Newcastle last season even though that doesn't mean anything.

so if you have a comfy mini league lead this is the week to take a punt imo

Don't mind keeping Defoe for 1 more week before bringing Austin in for the DGW but wondering if it's worth getting rid of Walcott now or waiting and transferring him out for a DGW player next week (Eriksen).. Thoughts?

not necessairly......wenger taking it slowly with Walcott as he did last year.

the thing is even if he starts he is rotation risk for the following game, so best to get rid and this weeks the perfect time to do it if you cant field 11 (effectively 2 pt hit).

      Giroud vs Austin

      - Giroud plays for a better team, averages excellent points and has decent fixtures to come... plus represents a differential.

      - Austin is cheap, scores frequently and has a double gameweek.

Instinct is to go for Austin next week, but have a nagging doubt that selling Giroud is a mistake.

However, i will have to take -4 to swap Giroud to Austin?

        Is yours a free transfer?

It could be - but depends on what I choose to do next week.

I have Eriksen to Mane, plus one other transfer to make.

To those with Walcott, I'd like to chime in with my 2 cents.

I can't see Wenger starting both Welbeck and Walcott together as it affects the balance or the team. (Unless Welbeck starts CF with Giroud dropping to the bench, but unlikely).

And in the last couple weeks, I really believe Welbeck has been their best player. Cannot see him getting dropped on current form

worth 2FT to field 11 players?

2 good transfers, and worth it for the long run. In saying that, I'd rather field 10 and have 2 FT the following GW

maybe i'll just do wisdom> dawson and field 10 then

Has there been a better goal in the league this season?

Wow what a poor week for me, was on 42 points going in to Sat but was hopeful of decent returns with Kane(C), Sturridge and Mane. Between them they managed 10 points with Studge and Mane 1 point cameos :/ This game is harsh sometimes :F

Don't be silly. If you don't get free time during the day just cut off 15-20 mins. of every Friday night's sleep. Read Scout Tweets & make your transfers.
