Fantasy Football Scout is pleased to announce two new Fantasy Premier League cup competitions which are set to take place over the season run-in. First of all, we roll out the eleventh instalment of our open-to-all cup competition, sponsored by Paddy Power. This is your chance to join our previous winners – donnellyc, Jonty, Gribude, Goonerdave, Ninja_Fit_Saints, sleepingmaster, Mch, Wild Rover, Tdubb05 and our reigning champion CMIFLFC in our hall of fame.

We’ve also opened entry for the fifth instalment of the Fantasy Football Scout Members Cup, as Trigg looks to defend his title. Fuzzy Dunlop, Kippax Kikkers and Acquafresca were our other previous winners of this tournament.

If you’re familiar with our competitions you can get your entries in right now via the links below. If you’re new to all this, read on for an FAQ on the competitions.

Enter the Paddy Power XI Cup via the entry form here.

Members can also enter the Members Cup V via this entry form.

How do the cup competitions work?

Our cup competitions are very similar to the Fantasy Premier League’s Fantasy Cup game. Entrants who qualify for the first round will be randomly drawn against each other and the winner of the tie is whoever has the highest score from that Gameweek, minus points spent on transfers (like in the original game and in head-to-head scores). In the event of a tie, the manager highest in the overall standings will progress.

When do they start?

The qualifying rounds for both cups will take place in Gameweek 28, with the first rounds running on Gameweek 29.

Fantasy managers can enter their teams from now right up to Wednesday March 11, when we’ll stop entry and will be drawing the first round ties from the qualifiers.

There will be 512 qualifiers for the members cup and 1024 for the Paddy Power Cup XI – depending on the number of entries. All our previous winners gain a bye into the first round draw where they will join the top scorers from Gameweek 28.

FPL standing will decide who progresses in the event of tied positions. The same rules apply in the Members Cup

How do I enter?

Enter the Paddy Power XI Cup via the entry form here.

Members can also enter the Members Cup V via this entry form.

In both cases you will be sent a confirmation email to verify your entry and you’ll be asked to confirm your FPL team id at the point of entry – please be sure to click the link to verify that your team is correct before confirming.

To check that you’re entered correctly, please scan the list of current entries.

The Paddy Power Cup XI entry list can be found here.

The Members Cup entry list can be found here.

When will I find out if I’ve qualified?

Results from the qualifying rounds of both cups will be published on or around March 11 and then weekly from that point on.

What is the Gameweek Schedule?

These Cup competitions will be played out according to the following Gameweek schedule:

Are there prizes?

Prizes will be announced in a follow up article.

Do I have to enter if I’m previous winner?

Yes, because your FPL team ID will have changed, we will need to record you entry again. As a previous winner, you will be given a bye to the first round proper.

Do I need to be registered with Fantasy Football Scout?

We ask you to supply a FFScout username so we can feature you, as a member of our community, in any articles associated with the tournament. Ideally, you will already have a username with us but this is not essential to enter (although it is for the Members Cup) – you must, however, supply a username for the purpose of the tournament so you can be identified in articles. You must not change this username throughout the course of the tournament, should you do so without permission, or should you enter multiple teams or if your FFS account comes under moderation for any reason, we reserve the right to remove you from a tournament.

Is a lead of 110 in a mini league quite alot at this stage or easily caught?

Its rather substantial, depends how similar your teams are in terms of chances of catching up.

Form is temporary, class is permanant 😉 He was so close to scoring last game, I really can't see him being a hinderence.

Gers23, he is your differential at this stage. You either hold on to him and pray or get rid. Ozil is good to free up cash. That lead is so hard to catch you need players like sterling/sturridge/siggy and just hope they fire

He's a very good player, no doubt. One of the best at Arsenal. But he's not the essential people want to believe. I think Ozil plus 2.2m to spend elsewhere is better value.

Quite a lot. I'm 140 behind in a £ league and pretty much gave that up as a lost cause a month ago.

I think it's doable, I was 1 point of catching a 40 something lead last year, and all that took was a differential captain and a good punt. Get a few of them and you're in with a shot 🙂

Play your game as it is when its close to the end if its getting tight match them up. Hard to gain on identical teams.

Depends on the players behind and experience, I have a good record and 100+ points behind in mini league (currently 45K) but its possible although I think you have a very good shout

Is Rooney likely to play further forward if RVP is out for a week or two?
I still have Rooney in a limited transfer game, on the bench mainly.

Can't see why not Flynn, Wilson it also out injured fwiw. He also has pens.
It's very likely, but then again it is LvG we're talking about, he may play AdM or even Fella up top

Rooney has played as a striker in the last 2 games. LVG recently referred to him as the best striker at the club. United have plenty of midfielder options. So, yes, if RVP is injured there's a good chance Rooney gets a few games there at least.

I hope so anyway. I'm planning to bring him in as my captain this week. 😉

Possibly longer if Mane is one of those confrontational players. Dropped for being late either means he'll buck his ideas up and be good to have, or throw his toys out the pram and end up being a bench or reserves player.
I hate having players who are a risk like that. Let's hope it is the former and he comes out all guns blazing this week.

How many clean sheets will S'ton get against West Brom (away) and Palace (home)? 0, 1 or 2?

I have to pick a player from WBA, Sun, S'ton, Villa, Palace or Hull for under 5.8m to be captain for 2 games.

Ideally I'd go for Mane but I can't guarantee he'll start, notwithstanding his lateness, they have a multitude of options in his position. Bolasie would be nice but has been a sub in the last 2 games. I fear I may have to plump for a defender and Clyne is the best option I think.

What have been your worst transfers this season? As in, net points in vs out.
Mine was this weeks use of my 2 FT's after WCing, Silva and Cazorla out to Sanchez and Mane.
23 point swing and it left me in an even worse position as I have Wisdom and PvA on my side.
That swing could have gotten me into the top 20k this GW

Anyone have some serious blunders this season?

I have had plenty but mainly C choice has bee my fall this year, I feel having a standout C the last few years as helped me

Good point on the captaincy issue, there was that long period in December when AGuero was out where there was a lot of shift in ranks with people punting on Silva, Rooney, Jovetic, etc... Hopefully Aguero gets a nice injury free run before seasons end. I can imagine last year was better set-up with Suarez being default captain.

That's an interesting strategy Steve, maybe your strategy didn't work out as well this year because of the change in the price change system no?

Not just yet Steve, there's still much at stake and blunders in the top 10k to capitalize on 😉

    Cazorla Silva Sanchez Cork

    2FT and 2.2ITB

Wisdom to Dawson this week and hope that PVA plays then Defoe to Austin and Caz to Eriksen next week?

I'm in very similar situation with my team, I'm considering Wolly and Toby as well as Dawson for Wisdom replacement. I think Dawson could come 3rd out of those tbh, but then I have WBA cover in Foster.

Kane doesn't have a fixture this week btw! And Cork prob won't start. I'm thinking you might need to shift PVA as well, or Cork, but it's tough cos PVA *could* start

      Foxcatcher was great.
      Starred up was great.
      Grand Budapest Hotel was great.
      Frank was an underrated gem.
Boyhood was really unique and easy to watch.
      Nightcrawler was great, too.

I must watch Whiplash and Birdman, haven't seen either.

Most awfully diabolical waste of time I've ever sat through was Interstellar.. McConaughey was good but the rest was just sad.

I liked Interstellar. It was irritating though when they tried to explain the science - 'black hole sucks in time, 5th dimension has something to do with time blah blah'. They said it so quickly like it was just some bull$hit science made up for the movie

Just checked into something and this is what I can see

    1. GW33 fa cup semis occur
    2. All other gw's bar 30,34,37 have CL games or internationals midweek
    3. Uefa dont let games clash with theirs
    4. This means man utd/arsenal, villa/wba, liverpool games wk 33 (whoever goes to fa cup semis) need to get rearranged either week 30,34 or 37
    5. Chelsea already double gw34 so if man utd progress, chelsea v man utd is either gw30 or 37
    6. High chance is gw34 is mega dgw with liverpool, chelsea and wba/villa winner and maybe arsenal too if they beat man utd

It could be chelsea dgw week 30 if man utd win but thats a big game and its a bit too big for such a quick reschedule so my bet is week 37 if that happens

So to sum up, gw33 will be tiny
    Gw 34 will be huge
Gw 37 if manutd win vs arsenal will be dgw for chelsea and man utd

He got to the ball first but followed through into matic. It looked a foul to me, yellow card perhaps. Massive over reaction looking for retrospective action.

I'm not sure why matic ban was reduced, you can't react like that regardless of how aggrieved you feel. Should have just crunched him in a 50/50 later on like Roy Jeanette would have done.

I was out all night, came in and watched highlights and my first impression was 'ouch' but fair, heard the commentator and thought that's not quite what i saw, so watched in slow mo and that confirmed for me, Barnes reaction says a lot for me as well.
It was only then that I realised there had been a storm whipped up by Mourinho and some pundits.
Gary Neville made the same point as me in the Sunday press and most importantly of all Granville agreed. 😉

I can understand Matics reaction as well, as in actual time it's fair to say that he feels he's been caught maliciously and I would probably have felt the same... and his reaction was illegal but not exactly criminal damage either.

Aye. I just watched it tonight. Wasnt at all intentional. You can tell from just thinking about how it would happen when playing yourself. And the speed these guys play at, of course that will happen. Worst bit was, matic was actually not even caught proper, hence he sprung up so quick. Maybe up here we're just used to a more physical game eh? They dont have a proper life and death derby anywhere in england likewe do haha. In an old firm game, thats just a tackle to getthe game going

Down to personal preference etc but I think a couple of hits over the next couple of GWs plus future hits for future DGWs could be the way to go to sort out your team along with high ownership could be the way to go if you are chasing

Chelsea players to X this GW could be worth it

    Just about planning

Don't hold onto a player for value, value not as important at this time of the season

Wait until all games are played before making transfers

Look at future transfers and games to be played around CPL etc

      • 13 Years

Whilst hits are ok in the right scenario, each one takes the edge off the extra game benefit. The more you can do it with forward planning and FTs the better

    Morning all.

How did Silva look this morning? Where abouts was he playing?

Since him and Eriksen's fixtures from GW28 onwards (when I'll bring one of them in) are both great, and their stats are similar, it's hard to pick between them. Was Silva's 17 point haul just a one-off?

To be fair, Aguero was quite good.. goal aside he made one ridiculous run through the middle and came close with a shot.. and his general close control and hold up play was great at times.. there were a few times where I was genuinely aghast at how he had managed to retain possession.

1 off but still a decent shout, city need to win and he will be part of it, the prob is the game before Barc where he may only get 60 mins to be rested but at the price and form worth it over most mids in that bracket

Agreed, Bony will be match fit soon to start the full 90.
Naturally, Silva will go on the wane surely? He's not a goal scorer. this last GW was the first time in his FPL career to directly contribute to 3 goals. He's over performing for sure, and can't see him keeping this up with all of Bony and YYT carrying more goal scoring responsibility on the team

I have Sanchez, Caz and Wally and need to drop one so was looking at Wally > Silva or Di Maria (Di Maria mainly because with RVP out and Falcao out of favor we may finally see Rooney up top and Di Maria in his rightful place AND United HAVE to play well to see out the season if they're going to finish top 4 with our upcoming run)

tbf to Silva though he did still thrive at LM during the late season last time 'round when it was Silva v Nasri..mostly because he had a free role even if his starting position was out wide

Perhaps but it's definitely not the same as the #10 role. With Aguero, Bony/Dzeko, Nasri and Yaya back in the team, I can't envisage the same returns for Silva.

            Thanks mate.

Current midfield is Sanchez, Haz, ADM (soon to be Eriksen), Mane ad Boyd so after doing Giroud -> Austin I could afford Silva instead of Mane, but I still think Mane will come good and I still very much fancy him as an option.

I'll answer seeing that most are trying to avoid it.

              I'd definitely take Silva.

City generate many more chances per game than Spurs and almost double the amount of shots in the box. Spurs with 4 games in 9 days will be mentally and physically tired by the time they reach DGW and Eriksen may well not play 90 in both games. City could easily create as many chances at home to Leicester as Spurs do in both their DGW games.

I think the answer is to ignore DGW and ask yourself which of the two you'd want under normal circumstances.

PS I think Sanchez to Eriksen is a better move. Silva is more central to City than Sanchez is to Arsenal. But most on here still aren't ready to hear that.

                Thanks again, mate.

Hmm, you do make some good points. I think Eriksen is more central to Spurs than Silva is to City, athough the point you make about Sanchez I agree with.

Can Silva keep up the form he showed against Arsenal. Apart from those few goal involvements on the weekend I honestly didn't think he played overly well.

Many on here say that he is not a good FPL option when City are playing two strikers, which I tend to agree with. Your thoughts on this?

Also need any opnions on anything? I want to reverse the favour, you're always helping me on here 😀

Personally I think too much is made of the 2 strikers thing although I have no doubt that City are better playing 4-2-3-1 with Silva at 10 for many reasons.

I watched Silva against Chelsea and was very impressed with him. I do look at stats but I also give a lot of weight to what I see in games, especially when I watch them live. He is very classy.

Eriksen interests me more for the fixtures after DGW than for DGW itself. I will probably bring him in but for ADM (and I already have Silva) so that's an easier decision for me.

Yes, you can help me with this... Costa to Rooney (c) this week? I would plan on keeping Rooney for 3 GWs. Alternatives are Sturridge or Giroud but I don't think either are nailed on to start all 3 games. I plan to bring Costa back in GW 30 unless suspended.

Yeah exactly. To be honest I'm not overly convinced.

He is classy, always has been, but it's only this season where he has been considered a half decent FPL option.

True. I think though, even if both players blank, Eriksen will still get the two extra points for the extra game. I don't see him being rested, I'd say Poch has learnt his lesson from that after benching him against the Hammers.

If it is for free, I'd go for it. Don't fancy Costa as an option at the moment. As you say Sturridge and Giroud aren't 100% nailed even though the latter has form on his side. Sounds like a good plan, I actually consider Rooney to be a good option now that RVP looks like he is out for a while.

Thanks. That's my thinking too. Bringing Rooney in as (c) could look very obvious after the event and it is very probably what I'll do. It's just that his recent record is so poor and that makes me more hesitant than I probably ought to be.

Yep, I think it's a great move and would even consider doing Giroud -> Rooney if I didn't have to save this week (for Kane and Austin next week) and also plan my PvA escape-route.

Fair enough for thinking that, but you just have to remember, he was playing CM then!

Anyone else enjoyed some schadenfreude at their ML rivals this week?

One of them actually sold Aguero to bring in Costa and Ivanovic, and all the rest bought in Costa.

I enjoyed floating the 'you do realise Chelsea Spurs QPR are not playing next week don't you? How many players can you field' and receiving one reply amongst the deafening silence: "6, I'm f******".

Technically whoever blanks this week gets a DGW later so same number of games. Getting a low score this week is irrelevant.

The only criticism is a lack of DGW strategy to maximise points.

        Aguero Kane Austin

That is a mental transfer for me, mate. Yaya nowhere near the potential of Alexis for me, unless of course Kunny Kun gets hurt. That said, I don't mind him as an option if you have the funds, but not at the expense of Alexis.

Yeah that does smack of boredom. Alexis to Ozil I could see paying off depending on who you upgrade to elsewhere with those released funds.

tempted to use it to get on the Sturridge wagon in a short time

with Eriksen in my sights too there's potential for a lot of funds to open up so I want to tread carefully..only 12 gameweeks left and its now or never..

Im away to sleep but for anyone who missed it, heres a link to the funniest post on here in ages posted by Capt. Shirokov ... Keep in mind the guy asking the original question came on to ask it about 2 minutes after the final whistle. What followed was comedy gold. 😀

                    Hi.

Keep in mind that it took more effort to ruin the match(es) for me than it did to type 2-3 characters and hit Post (depending on whether the answer was No or Yes)

So the way people responded perfectly typified their personality, maturity and respect for their fellow man.

You'll always get jokers. Even if no one had mentioned the score then you could have had a 50-50 split of yes/no response.

What do people think of Wolly as a Wisdom replacement? Has very good fixtures coming up, even if Stoke haven't been keeping too many clean sheets recently. Alternatives would be Toby if fit, or Dawson (but I have WBA cover in Foster)

Really think that's better than a Soton double up for £0.4m more? WBA have Soton and City in their next 4, not amazing fixtures. You could be right, just playing devil's advocate and I do like Wolly/Toby also

Well, maybe not 😉 If Toby is fit, that double up looks a tad more attractive to me. Especially since WBA have a horrendous run in and would require one if not two transfers in the future.

yes. people must be complete morons to not understand. I knew the final whistle had probably gone and so I posted to see if Silva made it out unscathed as this site would surely know.

"trying to avoid all spoilers but have to know for FPL, did Silva escape without injury? thanks!"

anyone who responded with a spoiler is a child. simple.

there's no "I was asking for it" I asked a simple question that had a simple answer and the trolls came out of the woodwork to purposefully ruin it for me.

then it turned into a joke that even mods jumped in on.

not the biggest deal in the world, just a football match. the overall scene was pretty disappointing considering the vast majority are (supposedly) mature adults.

                        carry on.

two players you'll definitely want back (one immediately)

Rooney (c) hinges entirely on whether he plays point with RVP out and Falcao 'out of favor'

Selling Kane who doesn't take up much of the budget is mental imo. Save him for the DGW. Rooney might be back up front but you shouldn't expect him to suddenly be banging them in as a result.

A little, the first part yes

Now the latter is interesting though, who's your other striker other than assuming Aguero?

Interesting, you have to be quite a maverick to get Rooney in. Not something I'd recommend to most unless I know your playstyle, I'd steer clear, not the sensible move Gers

Yeah consensus' still out on that one, to be fair to him, Chelsea have been underwhelming as of late. If it's true though, and with Matic's red, Chelsea may struggle to maintain the lead.

Fair enough. I have to chose one of them though, who would you go with?

                                I'm leaning towards Eriksen.

                                Sanchez, Hazard, Mane, ADM, Boyd.

Replacing ADM with one of them.

Likely, I'd way for pressers though Badge. Toby may be confirmed fit for the match and he could be the best bet into that back line. Alot depends on what you could do with that extra .9m

Not much mate FPL wise, trying to get in the top10k soonish before the gap widens. My latest use of 2 trannies hasn't helped my chances though 😆

I found it impossible to move into the top 10k round the end of last year lol Everyone with the same teams Suarez (c)

Im clinging on in top 1k at the minute but barely treading water.Little things like Bellerin and PVA being out last week costing me the chance to post big scores and do some real climbing. Managing alright though other than that.

😯 Let's hope it's not the case this year then!

You're definitely well set-up mate, most have PvA and Bellerin being a slight concern, IMO. You have a great team though mate, Haidara and Boyd are great bench material for this GW. Pretty sure you have the template top 1000 team, apart from two or three picks as well.

After the DGW fiasco, I'd be looking at a AdM upgrade and Giroud upgrade, I think the money will be invested in the heavy hitter up top for this second half of the season Badge.

In order to field XI, I will need 3 out of the 4 to start this week:
                      Bellerin
                      Clichy
                      Ameobi
                      PVA

What do you think my chances are? If I think I'll only field 9 or 10, then I'll prob use my 2nd FT...suggestions?

Bellerin looks likely after his injury, albeit it was served on the bench
Clichy, hopefully, first choice LB and Pell prefers him for the big games.
                        Not sure, has competetion no?
PvA, a lot of opinions on this one, most say out of favor for being a defensive liability. I'd wait for the pressers though and hope Poyet confirms the speculation

Ameobi hasn't played a minute in the last 2, fwiw. Before he played a few in a row and scored one. Doesn't look good under Carver

0.0 in the bank and have Baird, PVA and SWP, all of which are doubtful.

                      I looking at Baird-Dawson/Bellerin, PVA-Bruce and SWP-Ibe for -4.

I read that Ibe is not fancied by some?

Possibly the most boring use of 2 ft's I've ever made.

                      Kane & Wisdom > Cisse & Wollscheid. 🙁

No game. Bench of Ivan, Haz & Eriksen.

No, I had him in early but transferred him out during Jan WC. Got more value tied up in Erik'n & Haz.

Surely better to sell Eriksen than Kane?

                              See reply above.
He's back in next week & may be using my 2nd WC to do it as I may want Austin as well as tidying up my backline.

Hmm ok. I'd probably prefer to keep the WC for later in the season and just play with 10 men this GW. FTs are pretty precious so using them to take a player out knowing that you'll be bringing in him straight back in isn't for me.

Keep your WC till later, there will be lots of doubles around GW33/34. How you got to top 50k this season is beyond me 😀

Different ways to play this game and I play by my own choices.

Didn't mean to have a go at you, just pretty strange to say the least that you announce that you've sold Kane, and the WC thing I don't get either. Kane is probably worth £3m more than you can currently get him for

I agree about Kanes value but he's worth diddly when he has no game. It was a choice between him & Ivan and I preferred the striker option.
The WC will cater for both DGw's but don't want to use it as late as GW33/34 as I left it late 2 seasons ago and it backfired or at least I didn't get much value from it.
But is that not one of the great things about this game and this site, it's choices & opinions. I'm not a maverick as such but I do tend to follow my own instincts and I enjoy that.

I was face palming at the Kane transfer. I've just read that you transferred him out in the Jan WC, how can you make that mistake twice lol. Most other people were getting him in the Jan WC if they didn't have him already. He has a DGW the week after next ffs!

And he's back in again... 🙂
Kept 2 ft's so as to field 11 this week, will either take a -4 next week but more likely use my 2nd WC. This was all part of the plan.
Going into Jan WC my forward line was Kane, Austin & Ings, kept Austin for fixtures but quickly swapped for Kane.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing. 😉

You say using your 2nd WC in late Feb was all part of the plan, but no offence that seems quite illogical, even if it was the plan all along. You should absolutely save your WC till you need it more, it's very valuable and your team isn't that bad.

Have you already done the Kane move or still considering it?

WC wasn't necessary planned for Feb but since this DGW was announced and knowing Chelsea will have 1 later swayed me that way.

Like Mark just pointed out, surely taking Eriksen out is a better route to take no? Less value lost, and less room for error, no?

See above Zasa. Financially Kane was better to sell. Losing 0.1m as opposed to 0.3m

Just saw, interesting decision. That value lost is awfully close, I do love Cisse as a pick, big fan of him and is in my community picks. Also noticed you have a great bench with Walters to cover Eriksen/Hazard. Good luck mate, see you've already pulled the trigger.
