In a few days time we’ll all be wallowing in the empty void of a fortnight’s international break but, thankfully, it’s Gameweek 7 on our agenda right now. With just a few hours before another deadline, here’s our Catch-Up, helping you to digest the key news and scan the key Scout articles published in the last seven days…

Teamsheet Talking Points

Roberto Mancini’s revelation that he’s set to freshen up his City side for the visit of Sunderland could potentially wreak havoc with Fantasy plans. While the Italian’s intentions seem like good news for owners of Carlos Tevez – we’ve handed him a Scout Picks place on the back of his manager’s comments – there’s a definite worry that the likes of Sergio Aguero and David Silva could be benched for the Black Cats showdown:

“We played on Wednesday night and on Saturday we start at lunchtime – it doesn’t give the players much time to recover which is why I had to rest some players against Dortmund. We need at least five or six of the team to be fresh against Sunderland.”

Turning to the other side of Manchester, Robin Van Persie’s armband potential was given a boost ahead of United’s trip to Newcastle. Alan Pardew has ruled out Tim Krul, Steven Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini from Sunday’s match and with Wayne Rooney back to slot alongside the Dutchman, the visitors’ chances of bouncing back from last week’s loss to Tottenham seem to have taken a turn for the better.

As always, our Team News and Injuries & Bans have also updated for the weekend’s matches, with every little morsel of information collected and available for your consumption.

Intriguingly, this week’s “From the Physio” article examined Dimitar Berbatov’s chances of making the Southampton game at St Mary’s. Facer gave the Bulgarian every chance of making the game and, while Martin Jol gave Berbatov just 10% chance of being in contention, it’s interesting that the Fulham boss avoided ruling out a comeback.

This week’s ScoutCast offers its very own brand of weekend preview, listen in to Mark, Granville and “their kids” right here.

Looking Forward

This week’s coverage for Gameweek 7 began with Frisking the Fixtures, assessing how the teams are shaping up over the coming weeks and our Watchlist Updated piece zones in on players with more specifics.

We would let the week pass without taking an in depth look at some of those who enjoyed a surge up the Watchlist rankings and this time around we threw you no less than three likely suspects. We’ve taken a look at the burgeoning talents of Southampton’s Uruguayan import Gaston Ramirez, another Belgian defender with a penchant for panache in Jan Vertonghen and Spanish midfielder David Silva, who has been building up a head of steam these last few weeks. Here’s a snippet from the latter…

“The champions currently present a perplexing prospect to Fantasy managers. Whilst the absences of Sergio Aguero and Mario Balotelli allowed Carlos Tevez to make the early season hay, a fully fit front line will surely spell rotation, and with City’s fixtures very much on the up (SUN, wba, SWA, whm, TOT, AVL) potential investors might lament the untimely absence of places to securely hang a hat.”

Members Club

Our fellowship of Fantasy Football Scout members helped themselves to another couple of exclusive articles as Mark first shone the spotlight on Eden Hazard ahead of Chelsea’s home game with Norwich. With Juan Mata vying for our Fantasy affections within Roberto Di Matteo’s midfield, we delved deep into the statistics to ascertain just why the Belgian’s Fantasy returns have suddenly dried up over the last three Gameweeks.

Guest contributor Chris Glover is always welcome around these parts and he continued his Moneyball series by taking a look at Liverpool’s young prospect and Fantasy steal, Raheem Sterling.

Talking Tactics

Paul strode out into his Technical Area this week to analyse Roberto Mancini’s recent tactical tweaks. After the experiment of the much talked about three-man defence, our man with the know-how looked at the return to a more ‘standard’ backline…

“After a tricky first five fixtures, it seems that City are finally starting to click. The return to 4-2-3-1, Silva’s improving fitness, Barry and Aguero coming back from injury and Toure in a more advanced role once again – it all bodes well for the champions and for Fantasy managers looking to invest in their attacking assets. With four home games in the next six (SUN, SWA, TOT, AVL) in addition to trips to West Brom and West Ham, it’s lining up to be a potentially prosperous time ahead.”

Over on the Fantasy Premier League website our traditional Thursday Preview under the guise of ‘The Scout’ has been published and awaits your consumption. We’ve got all the usual bells and whistles, with a regular scan of tactics and interesting numbers from the game, on top of another new set of players we have our eye on.

Weekly Regulars

The Scout Selection Committee had a real quandary on their hands this week as we found ourselves spoiled for choice ahead of a Gameweek that looks positive for a whole gamut of players. After much deliberation, Paul finally issued another helping of Scout Picks just a mere few hours ago.

Even more recently, we offered our usual trio of options from a less fashionable pool of talent with our Spot The Differential article.

After a bristling start to his Fantasy career, Eden Hazard has suffered three consecutive blanks, causing his owners to get fidgety. Nevertheless, a home game against a Norwich side who have just conceded five against Liverpool, seems to have restored the faith. Hazard is heading the race for the armband in our Captain poll so far this week with 20% of the vote.

The in-form pair of Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez present strong alternatives, with strikers Fernando Torres and Sergio Aguero also jockeying for position having also notched last time out. It’s a fascinating tussle in a Gameweek that looks set to cause a decent swing across the mini-leagues.

    * I was panicking last weekend and was planning upto an 8 point hit. As it turns out, I’m not even gonna make a change. Heres what i’m going with..

    Jaask
    Baines Ridgewell Hangeland
    Hazard(vc) Pienaar Michu Yaya
    Berba (Sterling) RVP(c) Tevez

    Subs: Demel, Cuellar

Do I need a transfer or hold onto the two for the break?

In the same boat, Viper. Would've made an 8pt hit losing RVP in the process had Gervinho not risen while I was in the transfer screen!

Change has looked less essential as the week has passed, and now I'm trying to keep the discipline to not do Gervinho in for Pienaar. 2 FT over the international period should be invaluable, I feel.

I was fully set on Yaya & Berba -> Bale & Lambert. Now with Yaya doubtful i'm back in that frame of mind.

2 free transfers would be nice! Having Berba at home to Villa next week would also be nice aswell. Pros and cons to both options..

    Foster (Fed)
    Ivanovic Baines Hughes (McCart, Cuellar)
    Hazard Michu Piennar Kagawa (Noble)
    Podolski Tevez(c) 2 FT, 0m in bank.

    What is the best move?:
    a) Cuellar to Ben Davies, start him
    b) Noble to Sterling (long term move, think i would still have to bench him?)
    c) Kagawa to Gervinho?

I've compared his stats from gw1-3 to gw4-6, and his offensive stats have reduced. I will be looking to offload soon. It is a shame, he undoubtedly has promise in Wigan's formation, his goals toward the end of last season were an example of this.

And fwiw I'm sort of assuming that Silva is going to be rested (which is why I don't have Berbatov in there, I can't risk two being rested after a WC) so this Jelavic/Carroll question may actually come in to play.

Actually, slightly prefer Carroll for the next few over Jelavic, if for whatever reason I decide not to get Berba in. After this week:

            West Ham have:
            SOU, wig, MCI, new, STO

            Compared to Everton:
            qpr, LIV, ful, SUN, rea

Bearing in mind I can bench for the odd rough fixture (where so-so ones might only give me a headache again)

I have wildcarded this week, good to go?

    Foster

    Gibbs, Baines, Wilson

    Bale (c), Gervinho, Cazorla, Ramirez

    Ba, RVP(v), Jelavic

    Subs; Begovic: Sterling, Demel, Gorkss

I know, I know, the double up on arsenal is risky, but feck it, im going for it 🙂 Comments welcome

I wouldnt go with both, but fixtures are good enough and plenty of options to hop off onto other options if you wish to sell Gerv or Cazorla later. I am seeing Ramirez is so many teams now, thinking of getting in as part of a -4 in GW9. Liking the Stoke double up and the front 3

thanks mate, yeah i was like that, i dont like doubling up but to be honest i feel safer with two arsenal mids than say shoving fellaini in there and tripling up on everton, and your spot on, thats the reason ive done it, can easy opt out onto another decent player, say silva for caz, or someone decent for gerv.

Yeah ramirez has taken a shine to people's teams hasn't he, i feel comfortable having him, he's a sharp player.

Oh well, leaving team as it is, fingers crossed!

yo man! haha! time will tell el padrino, time will tell lol. Well my logic is, villa are absolute rubbish, this is a team that shipped 4 to southampton, they are dyer at the moment, and if anything will happen, surely bale will be connected. i am pooing it though ha!

i agree, it is risky, what would you personally do, drop one of the two? i like them both! plus i dont see anyone worthy apart from silva in for caz, nobody around i think is better than gerv for his price at the mo.

it's gonna be a tight one, I can tell that is probably going to be the only difference between our teams... all depending on who does the better now!

It's only personally but I would definitely put some Chelsea contingency in there for the Norwich game, and then swap them out afterwards, maybe Mata. I do like the looks of having both of them though I have no major problem with it, I wouldnt get Fellaini or anything either as you have Jelly. Stick with your gut mate, I know you like em both a lot and it could pay off.

yeah i was like that today thinking i better put some chelsea in there or at least some city, but with chelsea's fixtures comin up after norwich i want no part of it lol, gonna be tough for them, and as for city, rotation galore! but if silva starts performing he may replace cazorla, but gervinho could be replaced with someone decent i guess.

yeah no need for fellaini ive got jelly, in fact jelavic wouldnt be a bad shout as captain ya know, didnt think of that ha! will stick with the double arsenal pairing tho, i like it too much lol.

Haha if they ended up on the same score, I would just swear and hope for my men to bridge that 1 point gap between us!

Yea that's why i was saying to get rid after Norwich game straight away, however like you say if you keep an eye on Silva, city have some good cames coming up then you can sort out the double Arsenal by getting him in. Can see Silva coming into his prime again and possibly being a must have soon, I am holding 1.9 million in my bank at the moment for an immediate transfer if I think that is gonna happen especially with City's fixtures.

haha! Well here's to the best man lol! i just hope i maintain a lead in my mini league, that etchy guy is second to me again! he always crawls back taking like 8pt hits every single week! he'll stumble though, he makes rash decisions.

Yeah sorry i knew you meant that, but for one game i'll pass on chelsea i reckon. Yep exactly, silva is already on my watchlist.
Thats a good idea actually man, he's looked sharp last two games, if he does pick up pace he's going in my team for sure, een if it is for cazorla, purely because of fixtures, they're awesome for city!

Rightio, im off to bed now, up early tomorrow for a run and then watching all the footie, praying for my cazorla and gervinho haul haha! Best of luck man!

Evening Folks... College has been far more hectic than I expected and my attention towards Fantasy Premier League has unfortunately taken a turn for the worst 🙁 I know I'm not on here as much as I was a month ago, but I'd really appreciate any thoughts on this team. Any transfers needed? Have I benched the right people?

    Foster

    Cole - Rangel - Fonte

    Bale (C) - Hazard (VC) - Pienaar - Sterling

Van Persie - Tevez - Graham

Subs: Green - Kacaniklic - Demel - Hangeland

Bench is fine. But given the state of the Newcastle defence I'd captain RvP

Another good point. Got burned by Hazard when I captained him against Stoke but I reckon the Potters'll be less 'cynical' against Liverpool as they might see it as a possible three points?

Guys.... would you WC this team over the international break?

    Jussi (ARS)
McAuley (QPR), Baines (wig), Gibbs (wha)
Hazard (NOR), Michu (RDG), Barfa (MUN), Bale (AVL)
Tevez (SUN), Suarez (STO), Graham (RDG)

Subs: Ruddy (che), Puncheon (FUL), Clyne (FUL), Gunter (new)

Not sure if you can tell, but I have an unbalanced ratio of home-to-away players each GW, so my rankings been going up and down like a yo-yo... And I would like to fix this. Thoughts?

    Davis
    Rafael, Ivanovic, Clark
    Hazzard, Carzola, Michu, Nolan
    Tevez, RVP, Berbatov

    Begovic, Guthrie, Hangeland, Demel

2 free transfers and 0.1 in bank.

Is Carzola > Bale and Berbatov > Lambert the best moves available? or what else would you suggest?

Got the same dilemma. While patience is key in FPL, and Cazorla is "due" a brace, one also could argue Bale is an imminent threat to all his opposing team, thus making him the more essential of the two (i.e. Lambert and Bale).

However, the latter option makes you have both Cazorla and Lambert, while the first only includes Bale (presuming Berbatov does not feature). Or are you thinking of doing both? Nevertheless, I would not make a hit.
