Steven Fletcher scores twice as Sunderland grab a win at Palace. Vito Mannone drops to the bench as Costel Pantilimon earns his first start of the season, whilst Fraizer Campbell is in the points for the third home match in succession for Palace.

Fletcher at the Double

The Scotsman took his tally to four goals and an assist in the last four as the Wearsiders clinched a vital victory last night. Like QPR’s Charlie Austin, Fletcher is another forward whose contribution is looking crucial to his side’s survival bid – Sunderland have only scored six goals in the last six Gameweeks and the 5.3-priced frontman has now played a part in five of them. With Everton, City, Chelsea and Liverpool in the upcoming five fixtures, though, few will be willing to consider Gus Poyet’s main men right now.

Mannone Benched in Black Cats Reshuffle

Poyet finally swung the axe on his error-prone stopper last night as Costel Pantilimon took his place between the posts for Sunderland. In spite of his recent poor form, Mannone had proven a reliable source of save points for Fantasy managers, having chalked up at least one point for saves in seven of his nine appearances, but after last night’s omission, his 9.9% of Fantasy Premier League owners will be looking for an exit rout.

Absences Build for Sunderland

The Wearsiders look set to be without a couple of key first-team players for this weekend’s home clash against Everton. Patrick van Aanholt laid on his second assist of the season but was stretchered off with a possible dislocated shoulder shortly afterwards, whilst Lee Cattermole was true to form and fell off the suspension tightrope after earning his fifth caution of the campaign. Poyet is likely to turn to Liam Bridcutt (who grabbed an assist last night) to sit in front of the back-four against the Toffees, whilst elsewhere in midfield, a goal for Jordi Gomez and assist for Will Buckley could ensure they retain their weekend starting berths.

Campbell in the Points Again

The Eagles may be struggling in front of their own fans this season, with just one home win in five, but their 5.2-priced striker continues to benefit from Neil Warnock’s attacking approach. Campbell had scored against Leicester and Chelsea in the previous two at Selhurst Park and grabbed a somewhat fortuitous assist thanks to West Brown’s calamitous own goal last night. With three goals, an assist and three bonus points in his last six now, he looks the man most likely to deliver under the new manager, with last term’s top scorer Jason Puncheon once again overlooked as Wilfried Zaha continued on the right.

Defensive Frailties Continue for Warnock

The Palace boss partnered fit-again Scott Dann with Brede Hangeland in the heart of defence last night, with Damien Delaney – available after serving a one-match ban – left out of the squad altogether. The 3-1 defeat means the Eagles now have just two clean sheets in ten under their new manager and have worryingly conceded at least twice in the other eight matches – 19 goals against is just one fewer than the top-flight’s most porous defence (QPR, with 20) and underlines how quickly their defensive assets have fallen in the post-Pulis era.

Experience tells me that Fletcher doesn't score two goals every week. In fact experience tells me that when you get Fletcher in he will either get injured or not score for many gameweeks, plus crucially he becomes a costly money pit.

What has experience taught you about how to succeed at FPL?

This applies to veterans like me who have been at this for seven years now...and those who are maybe just a season or two into playing FPL. Each year we learn lessons.

My main lesson is do not compete with anyone else or rivals. Compete with yourself and set targets where you want to stand 5 GWs from now. Making decisions based on rivals (esp in first 30 GWs) more often than not isn't the right move.

Yes, I don't really understand why Mark is so obsessed with competing with Granville, especially when there are many others closer to his score in the Mods and Contribs mini-league.

This is a good point. I set myself a target of getting in the top 10K. My rivals are then those in the top 10K so I'll look to counter well owned players by getting them in and hope my differentials do well enough to carry me further into the depths of the top 10K.

This kinda contradicting. You saying don't compete with anyone else and set targets where you want to stand in x GWs.
Don't you set those targets by relating to others?
this game is all about competition.

      A few things:

      1. Do transfers early.
      2. Don't be afraid to take a hit if the player coming in has explosive potential.

If you like to take plenty of hits to build up your team early on make sure you leave no injured players in your team and always buy early...Buy low and sell high...I used to be a buyer btw in real life !!

      1) don't waste money on goalkeepers
      2) don't buy people with no prem experience at the start of the season e.g. Bojan
      3) be pragmatic, stubborness will kill you - see Yaya and Ramsey for details
      4) if someone is on fire, get them in immediately
      5) don't go too heavy in defence, you're doomed to fail long term
      6) avoid hits unless you genuinely believe it will improve your ranking in the medium term

But in your defence those early Utd fixtures looked good with a new coach,
You just got trolled really tho I would q paying anything more than 5.0 in this game where GK returns over a season is negligible.

I've learnt nothing. I still make the same mistakes 😆

I think something I've learnt this season is, it's actually worth it to make early transfers. The risk of mid-week injuries and problems are actually pretty low, and it really helps your TV to catch all the early rises, especially in a price system where 2 is usually the max number of price rises per player per week.

Don't be afraid to chase points if it looks like they are an indication of things to come

Wherever possible bring in players who have form AND fixtures (but form if you have to choose)

      Ditto for captaincy

      Build team value

Try to address your weakest links rather than tinkering

Find the bargains, the underpriced players, to enable you to get more of the "big obvious players"

Hits don't need to pay off in one week

Haven't learnt much or rather haven't listened to myself:

      - Buy nailed on players (I had FLuis)
      - Get OOP players (only recently got Baines in and never had Sanchez)
      - Penalty takers are a must (not got Hazard or Gerrard)

Learn to swallow your pride. For example, a few seasons ago I didn't get Dempsey until it was too late because my logic was '9m is too much for a Fulham player'. He kept on scoring week after week until I finally had to give in after this massacre. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17175770

Try and combine form and fixtures which builds team value e.g. taken 1st 8 point hit of the season this week because
Hutton > Chambers - was on radar, rising in price, avoided yellows for 2 weeks now, bandwagon because of goal
Tadic > Downing - WH are on form and so is Downing and good fixtures coming up
Sterling > Sanchez - rising in price, on form and cash released from previous 2 transfers means I coudl afford him - plus he's now a placeholder for Walcott.

between now and Jan wildcard I think those 3 will outscore the other 3 by at least 8 points and it will build team value. I always rise up the ranks massively in second half of season.

        These were terrible moves!

" I always rise up the ranks massively in second half of season" ??? You've never even had a close to decent finish according to your link?

Honestly some of the advice from so called experienced managers on here is atrocious. Chasing cash rises is a ridiculous strategy imo as quite often the best scoring players will nit be the highest priced players for any given period. I always seem to have cash in the bank and am never overly bothered by value building.

The key things in fpl imo are form, fixtures, captains and value players I. E. Points per million.

Don't sacrifice points for a defender. Even if they get a CS then you only break even.

Don't break your team structure to fit one man in - no-one is essential

Don't take more than a 4-point hit - they are very unlikely to be worth it

Don't make trades before close to deadline. The times where you benefit will be no consolation to the times you bring in a player on a monday, only to see him injured, or someone else injured.

Try and avoid planning out transfers weeks in advance. Stuff always comes up

      1. Play your own game - don't let your rivals influence your decisions.
      2. Make your transfers based on whoever you think will score most points. Forget about coverage, balance, ownership and any other not-points-related argument.
      3. Make transfers early in most of the GWs.
      Exceptions are
      - international breaks
      - in case you're bringing players made of glass with mid-week fixture (e.g Aguero)
      4. Save a transfer if not sure what to do with your team. Next week could be more decisive.

Not much to add to the already sound advice posted thus far. A couple of additional points, namely:

      1) Watch as many games as you can, especially those involving players from your squad or those you are planning to buy. It's more reliable than statistics, and can really help your OR. For me the best example this season was watching Burnley vs Man United and seeing how well Di Maria played. This, combined with his majestic performance during the intl break against Germany, was enough for me to bring him in and captain him for his 28 pt haul in the next game.

      2) Don't let pride get in your way when jumping on bandwagons (thereby ignoring that internal voice that wanted to get there before everyone else)

      3) But at the same time, bear in mind that if a player scores one week (goal, brace etc), the probability he will repeat the performance the following week is not that high. Unless his name is Suarez (or Sanchez!)

Been playing fantasy football for about 20 years now the way to consistently have a good finish is to basically be as boring as possible and go with the obvious decisions. You are unlikely to be beat the people who run like god and some how make the perfect maverick move for 38 weeks but you'll consistently finish in the top 1% and in the long run you'll almost always come out ahead of them.

Be a little more adventurous with hits. I never used to take one but now I can see when a hit comes good, the rewards are much greater.

Be careful who you listen to on here too. Everyone plays the game differently and most have different strengths. As a rule, never listen to anyone who hasn't made the top 10k.

      1) stick with cheap GK
      2) Load the Front
      3) Stick with form mids
      4) Rotation of def is a joke, (play LBaines, Chel, SOT defenders all year)
      5) Wildcard early, get the price rises build the team value
      6) Set Goals
      7) Don't take hits!!!!!!!!*

*unless the hit is for a well formed player with fixtures to suit

Just looking ahead to transfers as Oscar is someone I've got my eye on. Was concerned with long haul flights and internationals ahead of gwk 12 but turns out I have nothing to worry about. ADM and Aguero owners can also be left pleased that their final fixture of the break is also in Europe.

    Brazil international fixtures

    Turkey v Brazil 12 Nov
    Austria v Brazil 18 Nov

Verdict: Brazil players should be rested and fine to play for Gameweek 12 (Nov 22-24) with two Europe based games

    Argentina international fixtures

Argentina v Croatia 12 Nov - Upton Park, UK
Port v Argentina 18 Nov - Old Trafford, UK

Verdict: Argentina’s ties are in the UK which is good news for Di Maria and Aguero owners.

    Fixtures for Chile

    Chile v Venezuela (Nov 14)
    Chile v Uruguay (Nov 19)

Verdict: The Uruguay match is Nov 18 evening local time. So should be just enough time for Chile's Sanchez to train in good time for Nov 22 match against ManU.

I've updated to include Chile...looks like three matches in the break and last one on 19th...just three days before Arsenal's gwk 12 match.

Sanchez won't be training until the day before that match. Makes him a slight doubt I think surely...unless he's Suarez like and can just step off the plane onto the pitch and score.

It should but match on Nov 19 against Uruguay...long haul flight Nov 20...training Nov 21 possibly...game Nov 22.

Suarez managed that kind of schedule but few other players do.

Yep looks that way.. the Nov 19 is deceptive as its actually 18 local time.

Sanchez did indeed play the full 90 for country a few days before getting a goal and assist v Hull http://www1.skysports.com/football/live/match/326995

I'd say the Spanish FA would be pretty bloody minded to play him in the friendly for 90 mins given the fuss that Mourinho has made about his inj record. It'd be like a declaration of war.

might not destroy, but Roma are in a bit of shambles themselves. And Bayern have a bit of momentum having beaten Roma, Dortmund recently. Of course they'll rotate, but I'll take the risk.

Hi, I need some help with my current squad for GW11, need improvements? Got 1FT and £0m spare.
    De Gea (Mannone)
Bertrand - Ivanovic - Clyne - (Wisdom, Cameron)
Di Maria - Sanchez - Sterling - Sadio Mane (Albrighton)
    Costa - Welbeck - Berahino

    Many thanks in advance.

I suggest keeping the FT as you have no pressing concern. Maybe Webz to Sakho/Cisse next GW? Former owner here and I got tired of him not scoring. Though I you'd wan to hold on till he plays against United.

His manager doesn't seem convinced. Even by scoring he starts on the bench, so not sure what more he can do.

Even if he starts, he'll be a risk of dropping back to the bench if he has 1 bad game.
