Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 10 – Sunday

Sergio Aguero grabs the match-winner against United as City win a fourth straight Manchester derby. United’s worries at the back continue as injury and suspension hit Louis van Gaal’s side. Nacer Chadli grabs his fifth of the campaign and Harry Kane stakes a claim for a starting role as Spurs come from behind to get the better of Villa.

Aguero Wraps Up Win Against Rivals

Sergio Aguero took his tally to ten for the season with the winner against Man United in the Manchester derby. The Argentinian now has seven goals and eight bonus points from his last six appearances in a run of form that has seen him emerge as an ‘essential’ pick right now. Notably, the City striker’s goal yesterday came in a week that saw the likes of Diego Costa, Graziano Pelle and Saido Berahino all blank, allowing him to open up a five-point lead at the top of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) forward standings. Aguero still has ownership under 25%, though with City set to roll up to Loftus Road next weekend, that level of interest is surely set to increase over the coming week.

Derby Day Blues for United

The 1-0 loss to their local rivals was the first time in seven outings that United have failed to score, as Louis van Gaal’s start to life at Old Trafford continues to stutter. Angel Di Maria now has just one assist to show for his last three and has lost ownership in each of the last two Gameweeks, with the current of form of Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez proving too tempting for many. However, United have three excellent home fixtures in their next four (CPL, HUL, STO) and Di Maria will have the chance to rediscover the form that saw him collect three double-figure hauls between Gameweeks 4 and 7.

Defensive Concerns Build for Red Devils

Attack is certainly likely to be the best form of defence for Van Gaal’s outfit, with their problems at the back showing no sign of abating. Rafael was injured in training prior to yesterday’s encounter, whilst Marcus Rojo dislocated his shoulder during the derby and is looks certain to miss the Crystal Palace clash this coming weekend, according to his manager. With Chris Smalling also suspended for that match after a catastrophic red card at the Etihad, and the likes of Jonny Evans and Phil Jones struggling with injury, Van Gaal is likely to have to stick with the partnership of Michael Carrick and Patrick McNair at centre back next weekend – it’s now no clean sheets in the last six for United, and a makeshift backline are sure to have their work cut out in turning that defensive form around.

Chadli and Kane Stun Villa

An inspiring comeback in the last ten minutes from Mauricio Pochettino’s side saw them clinch a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa, with Nacer Chadli netting his fifth goal of the season and substitute Harry Kane scoring his seventh in his last seven appearances late on. With Erik Lamela sacrificed to the bench as Pochettino opted for a front two of Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado, and Cristian Eriksen hooked off at the break, Chadli looks the one regular Spurs player worth owning right now, as his eight-point haul at Villa Park took him up to fourth in the FPL midfield rankings. Kane, meanwhile, is yet to start a league match, though his manager has hinted post-match that he deserves more minutes. Spurs have decent fixtures ahead (STO, hul, EVE, che, CPL) and the 4.8-priced Kane may well be afforded further opportunities to show his capabilities across that schedule.

Villa Losing Streak Continues

Problems are mounting for Villa right now, who are without a win since Gameweek 4 and will now have to cope with star striker Cristian Benteke, who is suspended for the next three after being dismissed for violent conduct. Andreas Weimann scored his third of the season against Spurs – and his side’s first goal in 547 minutes of football. The schedule ahead is decent enough for the Austrian (whm, SOU, bur, cpl, LEI), but with morale so low amongst the Villa ranks, he is still unlikely to rival Diafra Sakho or Berahino for our affections in the budget forwards bracket.

      thanks for names.
      never thought i'd say this but downing seems more solid keeper rather than 1 week punt. albeit if you 1 week punted him for this current gw you'd be loving it. brunt is interesting, put him forward for the differentials a couple of weeks ago, noticed on MOTD he was the one in the box for the OG, also shot just over from in the area earlier on too. plus corner taker with lescott and dawson at cb is almost chelsea corner taker good.
      other names were ones i was thinking plus maybe nasri

    Chambers, Terry, Clyne
    ADM, Sterling, Siggy, Fab
    Aguero, Sahko, Costa

    Hutton, Wisdom, Marney

    Which would you go for as i have 2FT so will mean -4 hit

    A) Terry + Sterling + Siggy > Jags + Sanchez + 6.1m MID (Downing?)
    B) Terry + Sterling + Siggy > Baines + Sanchez + 4.5m MID
    C) Sterling + Siggy > Sanchez + Milner/5.3m MID

        Quite similar team to mine!

        Option B is out as it leaves you with 2 cheap MIDs one of which will have to play

        prefer A

        can you do Terry + Sterling > Sanchez + cheapie e.g. Dummet ?

      downgrade Sterling to Downing, Alcaraz/Hutton to Alderwield... spare cash to give more flexibility in coming weeks

    Sanchez is destined to blank on sunday with the amount of people bringing him in (including me) this week - can't see him getting double digits for his fourth week in a row, but hoping for that of course!

    Tricky trip to Wales though 😛

    Caved in and bought Sanchez. Completely weakend my midfield but they all have decent fixtures (provided they all play).

    Krul
    Baines, Chambers, Clyne
    Fab (liv), Sanchez (swa), Downing (AVL), Wanyama (LEI)
    Costa, Pelle, Aguero

    Time to log off until Sunday.

      If you had a FT I'd suggest switching Welbeck to Pelle. Team looks solid enough without, but feel Sot could maul Lei next week.

    For his price, Sanchez needs to do more to convince me that he is fixture-proof for me to rip up my template. Sure, he has ripped a couple of weak teams apart lately, but in four matches against Everton, Man City, Tottenham and Chelsea his contribution has been just one goal and no assists.

      wouldnt say fixture proof at all. problem is look at arsenal's next 10 or so matches. gw22 is their next premium defence they face

    Best way of getting Sanchez into this team?

    Foster,McCarthy
    Clyne,Hutton,Baines,Duff,Moore
    Sigurdsson,Di María,Fábregas,Boyd,Sterling
    Welbeck,Diego Costa,Agüero

    The only players I actually want to get rid of are Siggy, Welbeck, Sterling. but I'd need to do all 3 to get Sanchez.

    What are your guys thoughts?

        only 1 with .3 ITB. I have contemplated your suggested transfers, but that would lead to a -8... seems quite a price to pay!

          the only other options are selling baines or fabregas it looks like

          or go super cheap by selling siggy to a 5m

      Your team is pretty similar to mine (see below post). I don't know about you, but I can afford Sterling + Welbeck -> Sanchez + any 5.4 or less forward. SO that leaves options like Kane, Ulloa, Naismith and co, not the most appealing, but its something.

      1. Brian (Not the Messiah)
        • 14 Years

        If I do Sterling-> Sanchez I can only do Welbeck -> 5.3

  27. D1B

    So, I have lost faith in Sterling and unfortunately missed transferring in Sanchez last week before the price rises hit :/

    My team is as follows:

    Krul , Mcarthy
    Moore, Clyne, Baines, Chambers, Naylor
    Sterling, Siggy, Boyd, Tadic, Di Maria
    Aguero, Costa, Welbeck

    I have had a pretty decent last few weeks, but I am considering making a bold move this week. I have 2 FT and 0.3 ITB. The options I considered (some bold, some not) so far are:

    A) Sterling + Welbeck -> Sanchez + Kane
    B) Sterling + Welbeck -> Hazard + Berahino
    C) Boyd + Welbeck -> Fellaini + Kane
    D) Sterling + Moore -> Chadli + Trippier
    E) Sterling + Boyd -> Downing + Chadli
    F) Boyd + Welbeck -> Downing + Berahino

    I am open to any suggestions though. Mostly just looking to move out Sterling and seeing what I can upgrade/downgrade at the same time to make it the best possible move. Thanks

    At 241M, the LVG XI was the most expensive team ever to have been fielded in the Premier League. And that's without Mata and Falcao.

      Its a tough one. I do think he's essential, but he's impossible to get without sacrificing a big hitter. I may leave him for another couple weeks.

      Sanchez will outscore hazard, but given chelsea fixtures and hazard's upturn in stats. It may be wise to hang onto him.
