There’s no surprise to see that Sergio Aguero’s knee injury dominated discussion this week as the community struggled to come to terms with his absence and the array of replacements on offer. Our community articles offered some cheap, differential alternatives, while our hot topics proved to be a mine of information on how best to cope with the fall out from his absence. We look back on all this and examine how our members have been beavering away and constructing statistical tables to help choose Aguero replacements plus, as ever, we catch up on the latest in our community leagues.

The Community Articles

The Puntmaster’s latest trio of differentials featured some of the game’s most injury prone players for Gameweek 16. Let’s hope they can keep off the treatment table before the weekend kick offs.

Meanwhile there was some cause for celebration this week as Gameweek 15’s Scout Picks Community champion Kurran managed to beat one out of three of the Scouts. Dusan Citizen, who won this week’s search for a Community Champion to represent you in this week’s Scout Picks, will be hoping for similar success.

Congratulations were also in order for 3rdTurd, who scooped November’s best Community Article prize and a £25 Amazon voucher for his detailed look at clean sheets over the last decade.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

There was no denying this week’s hottest topic among the community, with Sergio Aguero’s injury leaving Fantasy managers without this season’s star player and an array of options. Priced at £12.6m in the Fantasy Premier League game, his departure from our teams will also leave many with a large amount of spare change. In our discussion on what to do with the Aguero millions, Just a Hat was among those looking to beef up his defence with Leighton Baines and Joe Hart on his wishlist.

Aguero’s departure also means that the template team is well and truly ripped up, with a wide array of attacking trios set to line up for Gameweek 16 according to Heels over Head’s look at the post-Aguero forward lines.

Midfield is another area that many of the community are looking to address with their spare Aguero money. Yaya Toure is top of a number of shopping lists after scoring three double-digit FPL hauls in the last four Gameweeks. The Tinkerman believes we are returning to the golden era of 2013 when Toure ruled our midfields.

Roscola urges Toure suitors to be cautious, though. His research shows that the Ivorian’s strong form may have been due in part to David Silva’s absence. With the Spaniard returning from injury, history suggests Toure’s returns could slip.

Daifra Sakho has emerged as one of a number of key targets to replace Aguero, with Accounting on Chris putting forward a compelling argument for drafting in the West Ham striker.

Sakho also features in Rickardinho’s nuts and bolts look at the array of Aguero replacements and there was further support offered in our hot topic on Aguero exit strategies.

With Crystal Palace, Burnley and Sunderland at home in the next five Gameweeks, City coverage looks crucial – even if they are without their influential striker. To help, Punty penned this handy guide to gaining team coverage, while Innsie has some important news regarding the bonus potential of Manchester City defenders.

The Members’ Tables

Replacing Aguero also dominated our Members’ Tables this week. Vougiedipond produced this look at how the key alternatives fared over the last six Gameweeks, while Sverdet’s table on Aguero replacements looks at more immediate statistics, covering the last four Gameweeks.

The Thinktank has been looking at how Manchester City players performed last season to offer further thoughts about their prospects this season.

Elsewhere in our Members Tables, Giggs Boson drafted this look at defender goal threat. Filter by the last six Gameweeks and one or two Manchester City players emerge as good options.

I also assessed some backline options this week but instead looking for the worst defences at conceding set plays.

Predicting future returns was the aim of Jcw1989’s table this week, looking back on players’ last four matches to find those who have the potential to do better. My goals imminent table, looking at those with a high number of goal attempts but no more than one goal over the last four Gameweeks, also aims to predict future form. Its new leader will please fans of one London club in particular.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

Aguero’s injury should transform Zep’s Dead Team Challenge, where managers keep the same team all season. Here are the latest leaders among his competing ghost ships.

Tinkerman once again clings onto the lead in the FFScout moderators and contributors league, although second placed Athletico Timbo has narrowed the gap to just ten points.

don't be silly. Swans at home, tottenham sure to leak a goal on the road (IMO) and siggs will want to put a stamp on his old employer.

If yaya blows up tomorrow then you'll know he is worth a FT, but I wouldn't take a hit to get rid of a good player who is sure to get 90min playing at home.

    Panti/Hamer
    Kompany/Terry/Hutton/Wisdom/Yun
    Yaya/Haz/Alexis/Downing/Boyd
    Costa/Bony/XXXX

XXX=Sakho or Austin ? Could go with Sakho then swap to Austin in the next week.

My bench is strong enough. Cant judge him by shots in box.....either he gets a head on a set piece or he doesnt. He is good for 2-3 goals a season. Hopefully he gets them in the next month.

You have three players on the suspension tightrope. Sakho is obviously better this week, but I like Austin a touch more longer term. With all those players on the tightrope you might have to use that FT elsewhere even if you wish to switch from Sakho to Austin next week.

Alreet lads. I was just wondering how the non geordies see the newcastle team at the moment? We've won 7 out of 9, are 7th in the league, 4 points off champions league, all with a massively injury/suspension hit squad and without actually playing very well! Does this mean that it won't be long before we revert to type and fall away, or that when we actually click we can kick on and challenge for the europa league (or even 4th spot if the others keep messing up, and we buy a striker and centre back in the window). Our young'uns have shown enough glimpses to suggest that they could develop into cracking players. So who knows!

You have a lot of injuries at the moment and I think they're going to end up catching up with you. I can see the likes of Liverpool and Everton putting runs together at some point too. Think you'll end up around mid table.

That's the thing, our young'uns have really stepped up to the plate. Dummet, Haidara, Colback, Abeid, Ameobi, Aarons and Perez all look like they have a good chance of making it. Cabella has got something, and will hopefully be good next season, riviere was just starting to score before he got injured, siem de jong hasn't played but is back in training. We have suddenly got a strong looking squad. I reckon if we were to sign a quality centre back and centre forward in the window, then we would be looking sweet!

I am. I don't have any bench this week and I feel Kompany is more likely to play this week than Zabaleta. Thereafter, I can account for the match that Kompany will miss as he will be suspended whereas it is unpredictable when Zabaleta will be rested. Also, Kompany also pops up with a goal or two every season and I feel he is due one

Haz at home is a no-brainer. Yaya is a solid punt though more risky

on a WC this week and have arrived at this team pantilemon guzan azpilicueta terry hutton yun clichy
    mirallas hazard yaya alexis siggurdsson
    cisse bony dzeko
apart from being unable to play all 8 attackers any given week i see no reason not to have any of them. double chelsea defence cos i felt i wanted at least one. rotation liable to rob a few. are there any glaring errors (besides formatting, which i'm sure is atrocious)

Wouldn't touch Clichy with Kolarov fit.

really? dang. thought that he'd play at least half. with the defence i have i'd only need one from three most weeks. i guess i shud be making better use of the slot tho. cheers 🙂

It is a good team for sure. Personally I think sakho and Austin are the two biggest bargains in the game so there's no way I'd go without at least one.

I know Austin is suspended but it is only one and you have a strong squad

yeah. that is a good point. they are screaming out to be picked. not having a Whammer is something i'm trepidatious about but i like my mids over downing and that leaves sakho, but austin has pens and a crazy home record. i'd probably go with him. currently i'm benching cisse, and expect him to do well. so maybe i shud just utilise the cover this week for austin and avoid having a 15 pointer laughing at me from the bench 🙂 thanks dood. it's sage advice

Firstly, you started the post with an un-capitalized "O", .... 😀

      clichy.. risky.

Mirallas 1 week pick could pay off, not sure about after that though

hey cheers. yeah. i'll probably replace clichy now. mirallas, well he is just a dip into whatever goes round at everton. if others are getting good points with lukaku and baines, i'm just hoping for a piece of the pie. 🙂

    How's the team looking lads?

    Guzan
    Baines - Azpilicueta - Wisdom
    Sanchez - Hazard - Yaya - Sigurdsson - Boyd
    Rooney - Lukaku

    Schmeichel; Yun, Austin, Chambers

Who should I captain? Play safe with Hazard/Sanchez? Or go for the differential in Lukaku?

Currently 15k, want to crash my way into the top 10k this week.

I would say so especially with the way Everton are playing this season it's a big risk and could pay off massively but I find if you cap a midfielder and it comes in you usually do better than forward players

Hate to ruin your party but it's a genuine possibility that Cabellaro gets a game when they have to play in space of 2 days during Christmas period. They have easy fixtures so they can afford to give Willy a match.

But Hart is better. Willy is the no.2, he knows that. There's the FA Cup game on Jan.4th for Caballero to play anyways. No need to throw him into the league games when Hart is in a great run of form with good momentum

I guess I'll just take a blank on the chin then.

Doubt that they'll rotate though. Hart is the main man, and GK's don't need as much rest as outfielders

If you're trying to convince others then it's a poor argument. On that basis, I could argue the exact opposite with my stats of 58 v 38.

But if you're just admitting that you're a poor judge of which keeper to play, then your choice might be wise! 😉

Looking to make a move. want to upgrade Albrighton (for a hit) to someone that is actually worth it and will start. So I want to bring him in to start over my 4th d for example, as I have Austin suspended.

    Current team..

    Guzman McCarthy
    Azpil - Clyne - Bertrand - Yun - Wisdom
    Sanchez - Oscar - Siggy - Downing - Albrighton
    Costa - Rooney Austin.

Southampton were solid against arsenal and Chelsea, just a bit unfortunate to concede almost every shot on target
