Last week, West Ham made Argentinian midfielder Manuel Lanzini their seventh summer signing, with the 22-year-old joining on a season-long loan from UAE Arabian Gulf League side Al-Jazira, with an option to make the move permanent.

New Hammers boss Slaven Bilic was glowing in his praise of Lanzini, nicknamed “The Jewel”, and likened the new acquisition to a certain Man City playmaker:

“I watched him two years ago and I wanted to take him to Besiktas, but it was difficult. Now, the chance has come to get him, he’s going to help us a lot as he will add even more creativity in the crucial parts of the pitch. At the age of 20, he was given the No 10 jersey at River Plate who, with Boca Juniors, are a massive club of course. He’s not very strong but he rides challenges, he doesn’t go down – so I hope he could be big for us. There are deep playmakers like [Andrea] Pirlo or [Luka] Modric or you have playmakers between the lines up front like Silva. He’s more like him but he can play in all positions behind the strikers.”

THE HISTORY

Having come through the youth system at River Plate, Lanzini made his senior debut as a 17-year-old in a 1-0 win over Tigre in August 2010. He made 22 appearances for Los Millonarios during the 2010/11 season, although he failed to find the back of the net. Lanzini then spent the 2011/12 campaign on loan at Brazilian side Fluminese, where he made 37 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals, and helped them win the Carioca in 2012.

Upon his return to River Plate ahead of the 2012/13 season, Lanzini was handed the coveted number ten shirt, worn by the likes of Ariel Ortega, and went on to provide eight goals and two assists in 26 league appearances before stepping up his creativity the following year, delivering five goals and nine assists from 41 outings in all competitions.

In 2014, Lanzini joined Al-Jazira, and scored eight goals in 24 league appearances alongside former Juventus and Roma forward Mirko Vucinic, helping secure a second-place finish in the league.

Lanzini has also been capped four times for Argentina at under-20 level, but has yet to earn a call-up to the senior side.

THE PROSPECTS

Although Bilic has opted for 4-4-2 on occasion during the summer, the Hammers are expected to line up in a 4-2-3-1 for the season ahead. The Croatian primarily employed that formation during his time at Besiktas and rolled out such a system for last weekend’s trip to Charlton.

This would certainly enhance Lanzini’s prospects of finding a place in West Ham’s starting XI, with the young Argentine taking up one of the places alongside fellow new signing Dimitri Payet in the three attacking midfield slots behind a lone striker. This would see the likes of Enner Valencia, Matt Jarvis, Morgan Amalfitano and Mauro Zarate battle it out for the final berth, with Diafra Sakho looking favourite to lead the line.

In terms of match sharpness, though, the new boy has conceded he’s a little behind his team-mates, which indicates he may be eased into life in the top flight until his fitness is up to speed for the demands of the Premier League:

“First of all, I want to settle here, this is a very difficult and competitive league. It’s then about being at the same level as my teammates and getting into the starting XI as quickly as I can. I have already spoken with the manager. I told him I was looking forward to starting training, to getting fit and getting up to speed with my colleagues.”

Certainly, once he’s fully fit, Lanzini – at a price of just 5.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), could warrant some consideration should he live up to Bilic’s expectations and establish himself as a first-team regular at Upton Park. At this point, though, Payet (7.5) and Sakho (6.5) look the strongest options right now, with the former – who created more scoring opportunities than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues last term – also handed dead-ball duties by Bilic.

Judging by his manager’s comments, Lanzini is clearly a favourite of Bilic’s and the Hammers’ new coach Julian Dicks has also been suitably impressed by what he’s seen in training.

Whilst the Hammers’ first three away matches (ars, liv, mci) are hardly enticing, their first four fixtures at Upton Park pit them against Leicester, Bournemouth, Newcastle and Norwich in the opening seven Gameweeks, suggesting Bilic’s side may well deserve our Fantasy attention. For now, Lanzini looks one to monitor but once he’s up to speed, the Argentine may well emerge as one of the strongest options in the budget midfield bracket.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Arsenal's pre season form, the wealth of options in midfield plus their kind early fixture run have prompted me to double up on Arsenal's attacking assets in my draft Gameweek 1 side in FPL.

For me Walcott and Ozil are amongst many stand out picks. Walcott offers that explosive quality, plus he can score if he starts on the bench. Ozil looks to be the player Arsenal sought to sign, and looks primed for assists.

Who else is doubling up on Arsenal mids/fwds? If so who are your top contenders? If not, why not - is it too much coverage or is the threat of rotation too great?

I am tripling up on them with Mert, Kos and Ozil.

I am doubling down on Chelsea and Arsenal Defences this year as I expect Czech to be the difference for Arsenal.

Ramsey is a much bigger goal threat than Ozil - the last two seasons have proven that. He is a much better pick. In fact out of Caz, Ramsey and Ozil, I would put Ozil last.

He can easily become another 5.5m or even use that extra .5 to get Koscielny. Looks a good punt though on pre season form.

I'm amazed every season everyone overlooks giroud. Wen he plays he scores and wenger seems to love him. If u look at his actual minutes last season due to injury he still made up alot of points! And with all feeding he's gonna get.... well he goes straight in my basket.

Any reasons people are overlooking him?

I got him at the start of last season and he was terrible. I had him at the end of last season and he lost his place. Now this season he's even more expensive and all Arsenal's goal scoring mids are fit. That's why I'm overlooking him. I think the last point is probably why many others are too.

I see ur point... but if we look at the underlying stats.... he had a mere 21 appearances last season due to injury yet still scored 14 goals and provided 3 assists. That's pretty good going. I'm not sure he lost his place in starting team? Wasn't he serving his red card suspension?

And to add his conversion rate was 24.6% last season. 1 in 4 shots he scores..... I like those odds at a mere 9 Mil.

He had an average of (0.68) goals per game across all competitions which was only bettered by aguero (0.69). Kane sat at 0.64 pg and Costa 0.52.

With that in mind given a good streak of game time he's a better bargain then kane or Costa.

So basically he's averaging a goal every 96 mins.

I always have kept the faith in him and have been rewarded. I am going to stick with him now.

All I'm saying is he is Def worth consideration with the rest of them.

Ramsey and Caz and Wilshere will be fighting for that CM berth where they all play there best football, and will not score that we'll from the wing. Also, even with Sanchez and Welbeck out in the short term, they may not even play on the wing if they aren't in CM (Ox, Walcott {assuming he's not up front which is a possibility}, as well as Sanchez and Welbeck within a few weeks). Özil and Coquelin are the only nailed on arsenal midfielders/strikers at this point in time. He's also been the most consistent in pre season, being involved in goals almost every game whereas the other's only are involved in a couple games. The way Wenger talks about Santi and the way he is playing should assure him that CM role. Though there will be rotation, he will probably play there most games to start the season. Özil will always play CAM and IMO Ox should definitely be a starter in any team, so looks like Ramsey will be pushed out wide to start, although Wenger could be ballsy and play Monreal on the left like I have said he should so many times (mostly 3 years ago). COMMUNITY SHIELD WILL CLARIFY HIS CHOICES

In my assumption that Ramsey will play wide, it's implied Walcott would play up front. If Giroud plays, I can't see ramsey getting into the team other than through rotation

Ozil for sure but still deciding who else to get. Walcott, Giroud and Bellerin are the contenders. Ideally I want a player who will stick around in the first team and they all have question marks.

I don't understand the Ozil love - in the short time Ramsey was fit last season he was so much more threatening - even from RW. Don't forget in the final GW he hit the post twice after coming off the bench on 70 mins - has Ozil ever looked that threatening?

Ozil is a slight gamble in that I think he's set for a much improved season. I'm using foresight rather than hindsight on this one. I'm a big Ramsey fan but mainly when he's playing as a CM. I'm not sure how often that will happen this season especially with so much competition. Ozil at least is nailed on.

I understand that - but you have to remember than when Ramsey was fit last season he was pretty much nailed on in that front 3 (ahead of Theo). In fact, I thought he was ARS best player in the last 10 GW - in the Man Utd away match he was brilliant.

I reckon in Arsene's mind he'll best looking to rest Caz (slotting Rambo in the double pivot) for the hard away games because against Utd he was completely dominated by Fellaini and Blind.

I think Ramsey could become one of the best CM's in the world if he's given more game time there but out on the wing he isn't as influential despite still being a very good player.

Just for reference its also useful to not the PPG.

              Ozil 4.7
              Ramsey 4.0

This is slightly skewed - Ozil came back from injury halfway through the season, and it was in this half of the season that the majority of Arsenals clean sheets came from, so his PPG benefitted more from CS points, whereas Ramsey was fit all season.

I have Koscielny, Walcott and Ozil - I honestly feel that this will be Theo's season if he stays injury free.

Ozil I am hoping will score more this year as well, but I only got him over Fabregas because of the 0.5m saving.

Koscielny I am definitely looking to keep all season.

I think the Arsenal mid points will be spread too much, I can see Ozil, Walcott, Ramsey, Caz all getting 100+ points but with Sanchez getting the majority and only so many to go round I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Jordan Henderson outscores them all again.

I don't think that's right Doos, because they don't have to score every week to be good picks. If they each scored in alternate gameweeks, they'd quickly be top of the rankings.

Haz and Fab were in the top few mids last season for a long spell up to Christmas. The season before, Suarez and Sturridge were an extremely viable double-up.

Walcott is the best for me, may captain him GW1. Wish I could fit in a second....

      Hazard Walcott Milner Mane

With 50% goal involvement, Mane should be in the baps frequently. So I prioritise him over a second Arsenal mid atm. That man(e) is a goal machine.

Koscielny and Cazorla are the ones I have gone for.

Why didn't I choose Walcott? Well valued at 9.0 he's a huge rotation risk and I like players to be full on starters. For 0.5 cheaper I am happy to opt for Cazorla who I believe is nailed on if the worst comes to worst and Cazorla does not play the community shield I can go for Ramsey who I put ahead of Ozil.

I've already figured out a way to Aguero in with Hazard so I am unable to spend more cash.

Ozil is definitely safer than Cazorla. Sanchez is too once he returns.

Getting 2 of them looks a good idea for the short term, based on their fixtures. I do have a nagging doubt about their GW1 form, though. I'm remembering the Villa and Palace games where they seemed to stutter a bit.

I have Kosc and Walcott, but might need to shave 0.5m off..

The pricing is the tricky part as in both Dream Team and Sky Walcott is substantially cheaper than the others but in FPL he is the dearest...

I was contemplating the same thing, but Sterling's recent surge in City's preseason makes me think twice about double up on Arsenal. I have Walcott at the moment, but I feel with Sterling and Walcott playing through the middle'ish can be very dangerous

I am doing the exact same thing with the same 2 mids.Ozil should be playing in his favourite no 10 slot and have a feeling he will step up this season.I feel it's worth the slight gamble on Walcott due to his potential explosiveness and the fact it's a make or break season for him.He can easily be downgraded if it doesn't work out.Doubts over Ramsey's role is the only thing that puts me off him at the mo.

Arsenal are a watching brief for me - Charity Shield will maybe give an insight into starting XI. Total embarrassment of riches. I only have Mert for now as I think he is well priced, fairly nailed on and maybe due some more attacking returns.

Ozil tailed off last season and cost me a bit - but I think is a different player early doors. Will be really watching Theo - don't need an excuse to get him! The one that interests me is Wiltshire and where he will play. Could easily become part of a power 5 at some point.

At the moment its Ozil & Caz for me but that could change, depends on Walcotts game time and performance in the CS match. At the back I've opted for Cech as he's nailed on and cheaper than Kos

Currently have Walcott/Ozil in mid with Hazard and Sterling but might have to do Sterling to Milner to make def a bit better ..... Team keeps changing too much to really be sure. Won't be certain till after this weeks CS.

If you are doubling up, I think you have the luxury to go for Walcott since you already have a safe choice as well so Walcott and Ramsey/Ozil/Cazorla for me. If you are only going for 1, then Walcott is too risky.

      Deciding teams on pre season.....
I've always felt pre season is a terrible way to decide ur teams. Take man u last season.... they had an amazing pre season then flopped the first load of gw's.
Teams player lesser teams or teams that are experimenting new players and formations.... so outcomes can be misleading. City's 8 nil win... so tons 10 nil win.... this doesn't truly reflect the players form but more a fact that added a couple of easy goals.... jus like sterling's double and now everyone jumping on him....
Anyone agree or disagree and reasons?

Ok I'm a bit bored so I just wanna see what's the general consensus on these things..

    1. Rotation GK or 1 GK + 4m?
    2. Azpi or Ivan?
    3. Southampton defense, Y or N?
    4. Merte or Kosc?
    5. 3rd defender, uber rotation or 5.0-5.5m?
    6. 5th defender, 4.5m or 4m?
    7. Arsenal midfield of choice?
    8. Sterling or Silva?
    9. Hazard or Fabregas or Costa?
    10. Depay's prospect, Y or N?
    11. Mane's prospect, Y or N?
    12. Best sub 7m midfielder?
    13. Best 5th midfielder?
    14. Kun's placeholder striker?
    15. Benteke, Lukaku, Pelle, or Giroud?
    16. 3rd striker?
    17. Balanced or top heavy?
    18. Sacrifice Kun, Sanchez or Hazard?
    19. Early WC or keep?

      That's a lot of questions:

      0. 3-4-3 probably but I'm more interesting in 3-5-2 than I have been most other seasons
      1. 1 GK + 4m currently
      2. Depends on spare £ but I don't mind having Azpilcueta one bit
      3. Sure
      4. Kosc easily
      5. Depends on formation and mids/strikers
      6. 4.5m probably
      7. Sanchez
      8. Sterling for cheaper price
      9. Hazard
      10. Y
      11. Y
      12. Not sure - maybe Lens? Not really looking below 7 for playing midfielder
      13. Depends on formation
      14. Rooney or Costa
      15. Benteke
      16. Depends on formation 🙂
      17. Will usually lean towards top heavy
      18. Sanchez currently
      19. We'll see
      20. I asked this yesterday - it's a tough one. I'd probably jump on probably....

      0. 3-4-3 at the start of the season.
      1. Rotation GK, never feels great to waste a transfer on a keeper.
      2. Azpi
      3. Nope.
      4. Mertesacker. 0,5m cheaper, so why not?
      5. I have Williams who is 5.0m and rotates with Huth, so a mixture of both.
      6. Targett
      7. Ozil, Walcott, Cazorla, Ramsey. In that order.
      8. Sterling.
      9. Hazard and Costa.
      10. Yes, looks like the FPL kind of player, selfish and all.
      11. Nope.

      0. 3-4-3 always.
      1. I normally despise a rotating GK, but there is a lot of good options this year at only 4.5
      2. Ivan. Go big or go home.
      3. Southampton defence is a big Y for me
      4. Kosc for sure, Paulista will threaten Mert
      5. 3rd defender = rotation. Some good 4.5's this year
      6. 5th defender = always 4.0
      7. Walcott is midfielder of choice. after him, it's Ramsey
      8. Silva, 100%
      9. Hazard, Costa, Fab.
      10. Y, he's in my current draft
      11. Mane is a decent shout, but 8 mil is very expensive for a midfielder playing for a 'lesser' club with no FK's or Pens
      12. Cabaye or Ritchie
      13. I've gone for Andreu due to a strong pre season, but Fletcher or Wanyama are decent fillers.
      13. Benteke without a shadow of a doubt
      14. Seems weird to say, but probably Costa.
      15. Benteke without a shadow of doubt.
      16. Deeney if going cheap, although I think Gomis could be a great option at 7.
      17. Fairly balanced, but with an emphasis on getting quality captaincy options both in midfield and up front.
      18. Sanchez out of those 3, plenty of other Arsenal options to cover him, espcially if Walcott nails down his spot.
      19. Keep the WC until the bitter end, especially with these chips.
      20. Probably won't get Kun until GW 4.

Hello everyone, great questions KOFLOK, 1st post fwiw, all imho of course.

      0. 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 or others?

3-4-3 seems to allow more flexibility given there are decent value prospects in attack below 7m and a 4m 5th defender frees up 0.5m.

      1. Rotation GK or 1 GK + 4m?

Personally it will be a 5.5 + 4 to track a premium defender, but it's debatable and 2 x 4.5's needs some luck although a Kasper one may be of value to save 0.5m.

      2. Azpi or Ivan?

It's Azpi for me as he tracks Ivan to around 2% and yet his discount is 14%. Too large an injury/rotation discount imho.

      3. Southampton defense, Y or N?

Maybe Cedric, but Lescott's PPG tempts more... although Chester has just muddied that water.

      4. Merte or Kosc?

Kosc's epic PPG is only matched Gooner wise in yield terms by Cech, assuming the later is par to Ospina.

      5. 3rd defender, uber rotation or 5.0-5.5m?

Huth, then Coates will be my 3rd + 4th as their form, value and cover seem good.

      6. 5th defender, 4.5m or 4m?

4m if you can rotate the 4th.

      7. Arsenal midfield of choice?

Cazorla seems the more relaxing investment for now for the non-gamblers.

      8. Sterling or Silva?

Silva until I buy Kun, as he not only enables a smoother transfer but his 6 PPG equates to 60% of value, higher than all premium players.

      9. Hazard or Fabregas or Costa?

All in the same returns bracket v price, so fit in the one(s) that suits your needs.

      10. Depay's prospect, Y or N?

Good prospect but the safer Rooney is perhaps worth the unknown-factor premium, for now.

      11. Mane's prospect, Y or N?

Good if you can fit him in, nice fixtures, looks undervalued on PPG, even more on starting.

      12. Best sub 7m midfielder?

If I had to buy one it would probably be Albrighton @5m due to his end of season productivity and invest the rest wisely.

      13. Best 5th midfielder?

None look starters so erm... Baker looks the one if it quickly goes very wrong at Villa.

      14. Kun's placeholder striker?

Rooney could become Kun and Silva > Depay, but a small kitty is needed for that one and a slightly bigger one for Cost > Fab if that move becomes necessary.

      15. Benteke, Lukaku, Pelle, or Giroud?

None for me, but Tekkers looks the least annoying of that lot, by some margin.

      16. 3rd striker?

Sakho due to his modest pricing, 10 PL goals @good strike-rate and decent enough fixtures.

      17. Balanced or top heavy?

      33.5/66.5 atm.

      18. Sacrifice Kun, Sanchez or Hazard?

When all are back? It's going to be difficult to have all 3 w/o destroying overall value so the one with least volitility would perhaps be the safest one to drop as their Cap bonus would be smoother and less painful. Mind you the overall return differential maybe less dramatic, so I guess look at match-ups and hold more volatility in good runs. So Hazard maybe the one to consider dropping as he doesn't tend to be quite as explosive?

      19. Early WC or keep?

I don't know, depends, no WC plans tbh.

      20. Will you keep Rooney / Costa if Kun scores in GW 1 and rising in price?

I do atm have plans for Kun and they include both Roo or Costa (and Depay or Fabregas), but plans do change eh...

Silva or Sterling .. Sterling or Silva

This has been a conundrum in the minds of many a manager since the moment the brash, cocky, and arrogant 'Sterling' was announced as the newest addition to the blue side of Manchester. With his price being put at 1£ cheaper than our beloved FPL Star of the previous season 'Silva', some of us were enticed whether he could improve and be a potential golden ticket to the FPL crown.

This led many of us firmly with our scouting caps on towards the pre-season friendlies.
Over the course of the 4 preseason games played so far Silva has managed to score 2 goals & an assist. On the other hand Sterling has been even more lethal aggregating a total of 3 goals & 2 assists coupled with the two penalties he managed to draw. This has piqued our interest even further in the ever menacing Sterling.

So i dug up some research over the past 3 seasons & this is what i managed to find.

First let me start with Silva,

GP GS A CS CC ADW PCR SA YC RC C

    2012-13 32 4 8 14 103 58% 85% 56% 2 0 64

    2013-14 27 7 9 13 84 53% 88% 45% 5 0 54

    2014-15 32 12 7 11 93 46% 86% 60% 8 0 34

If we look closely, then we can see that over the past 3 seasons, the trend has been an increase in goals scored mainly due to a better shot accuracy leading him to become one of the sweetest finishers of the last season. But this has also led him to become a little reckless & a bit selfish with the increase in yellow cards & a dip in the number of crosses.

    Moving on to Sterling,

GP GS A CS CC ADW PCR SA YC RC C

    2012-13 24 2 2 9 37 51% 84% 43% 1 0 51

    2013-14 33 9 5 9 51 53% 82% 67% 3 0 71

    2014-15 35 7 7 13 75 52% 81% 53% 5 0 81

Sterling,on the other hand seems to have shown progression in all areas with a little inconsistency in his shot accuracy. There has been an increase in his chance creation & crosses over the past 3 seasons which is actually a bit surprising considering all the hate he was getting for being selfish.

Many of you might say that Silva has the advantage of 'Experience' over the young 'Flamboyant' englishman, but i feel with all of Silva, Yaya & Aguero's experience behind him (which he sorely missed at his time in Liverpool) he can only improve & (might be I a little bold in saying this) even turn out to be this year's 'Eden Hazard'.

From what you can make out I've already made my decision..hope this helps in making your decision a little bit easy too!!

nice, thanks. I did wonder if Sterling's 'break out' season of 13-14 was largely due to playing alongside Suarez, although now he's at a new club with a new wage, perhaps he won't feel so 'tired'.

I might captain Sterling week one. He's playing up front for Man City, at least until 70 mins when Aguero returns.

      Nice write up Sushant!

If money was no object, I'd go for Silva without a doubt. However, Sterling is playing for a much better side, with better players around him as you said. Sterling could equal or better his performance when playing alongside Suarez/Sturridge the season before last.

Thanks for taking the time to gather all of this info. I do agree that he will have a much better season. How high will his ceiling be is the question? Best fantasy player? Not quite. The shot accuracy is pretty concerning considering Silva scored 12 goals to Sterlings 7 playing roughly 400 mins less than Raheem. Pretty much the difference between their total fantasy scores.

    How about a RMT guys:

    Ruddy - Rudd
    Ivanovic - Cedric - Huth - O'shea - S. Taylor
    Hazard - Sterling - Özil - Ritche - Fletcher
    Rooney - Benteke - Pelle

Can easily go Rooney + either one of Benteke/Pelle to Aguero + 5.5 forward. Ivan and Cedric to play all weeks in the beginning, Huth and O'Shea will rotate. Very pleased with Hazard, Sterling and Özil, and I believe Ritchie is the right player from the new teams to punt on early on. Rooney and Pelle has decent opening fixtures. I'm not a 100% convinced regarding Benteke, would like to see him play first, so he is the biggest questionmark so far. What do you think?

A lot of people are using defensive rotations for both keepers and defenders based on getting a player playing at home each week. However Below is a table (hopefully it will present correctly) of Home & Away clean sheets for each team last season.

    Team HCS ACS

    Chelsea 11 6
    Southampton 11 4
    Manchester City 9 5
    Arsenal 8 5
    Everton 8 2
    West Bromwich A 8 8
    West Ham United 7 2
    Manchester United 6 5
    Liverpool 6 8
    Swansea City 6 7
    Sunderland 6 7
    Leicester City 6 4
    Stoke City 5 4
    Tottenham Hotspur 5 4
    Newcastle United 5 3
    Aston Villa 4 6
    Crystal Palace 3 4

    Bournemouth * 10 9
    Norwich * 6 8
    Watford * 7 8

    HCS - Home clean sheets
    ACS - Away clean sheets
    * - Championship stats

Looking at the stats, popular teams selected for defensive rotation don't do as well at home as you might first think with most doing just as well away than at home.

Sunderland, Swansea & Liverpool all seem to be keeping it slightly tighter on the road, while teams such as Stoke & Spurs are only marginally keeping more at home than away and West Brom sharing their clean sheets out equally.

The most noticeable teams that look great for Home rotations are Everton & West Ham (will this continue under Bilic?) with a 80% & 78% clean sheet hit at home respectively.

I am not saying this "limited" sample size should destroy our rotations but it's something worthwhile considering for those of use placing such importance on a home fixture.

Yes I have had this approach every season but this analysis shows that in most cases we may be missing out. As you say, alot of teams (especially the lower ranked teams) like to play safe away from home and therefore will make themselves tighter. TBH thinking about it in real terms it is very logical and backs up these numbers.

I'm going to embellish an earlier point. Pulis spending £8m on Chester shows he's following the same pattern he established at Stoke.

In his final three years at Stoke, only Liverpool spent more (net spend) on transfers. Let that sink in for a second. The spending wasn't done through expensive marquee signings, it was a procession of slightly over-priced mediocre players in the £4m-£9m range, with little or no resale value.

It's a big part of why he was sacked: all that money spent yet turgid football and mid-table obscurity to show for it. And it's why he left Palace - he wanted to do the same there and they wouldn't let him.

I feel sorry for West Brom fans.

Coates, O'Shea and Kaboul fighting for two spots (plus Wes Brown but I think we can forget him). Coates was very much in favour under Advocaat. Too hard to call who will win but bear in mind that O'Shea is 34 years old now.

      Hazard-Sterling-Ozil-Chadli-Redmond

      Rooney-Benteke (Deeney)

Question marks right now to get playing def for 4.0 if Trippier dooesnt get place and Milner/Hendo/Chadli. Thoughts? 🙂

1st season in FPL, can I get away with a defence this cheap? I just can't bear to let any of my mid/front go –

    Schmeichel (Butland)
    Taylor Cedric Huth (Baker, Alderweireld)
    Hazard Walcott Mane Cazorla (Barry)
    Rooney Deeney Costa

Is that Steven or Neil Taylor? If it's Neil I would go with Williams instead for safety

If it's Steven, also consider Targett as an alternative 4.0 DEF that should start the season until Bertrand is back

It's a tad risky, you might miss out on a defender now and again.
Imagine the points haul you could get with those attackers though....I'd be tempted to go the whole hog and get a cheapy for Alderweireld and put even more into attack- death or glory!

Hmm, agreed! Particularly on Palace - at the time the general consensus was that the board should have let him spend some money - but really, he kept them up, and now they're arguably in a better position than they would be with him in charge.

Lescott, McCauler, Olsson, Dawson, Chester ... maybe he wants to play 3 at the back with two of McManaman, Brunt and McLean as wingbacks?

To those going with Rooney/ Costa and planning to swap to Aguero. Let's look at this scenario:

GW1: Rooney plays Spurs (h), Costa plays Swansea (h), Aguero plays West Brom (a).
GW2: Rooney plays Villa (a), Costa plays Man City (a), Aguero plays Chelsea (h).
GW3: Rooney plays Newcastle (h), Costa plays West Brom (a), Aguero plays Everton (a).
GW4: Rooney plays Swansea (a), Costa plays Palace (h), Aguero plays Watford (h).

So what will happen if Rooney delivers GW1? Are people really going to ditch him for Aguero that plays Chelsea and Everton over a Rooney that plays Villa, Newcastle, Swansea? I can't see the sense personally. Likewise Swapping Costa to Aguero seems a bit sideways.

I assume some will say "I'll wait til GW4 to bring Aguero in" but then again if Aguero does well he may suffer a price rise.. And as the most expensive player in the game this will mean re-structuring your team unless you plan to WC.

Just seems to me that planning a transfer/ WC before the game has even started is bad news, but time will tell I guess.

    Just my two cents....

      I think it is a bullsh!t rumor.

If we are going to buy a player, it will be one of:
*A striker for a lot of money (like Benzema), who will immediately be first choice.
*A young defensive midfielder (like Samper), who will be Coquelin's understudy.
*A CB (I doubt) for a lot of money to directly replace the aging Mertesacker.

Indeed, I am not a fan of a particular club but Arsenal has the best middfield in the league imo. No need for Draxler there, should buy Aubameyang or Benzema. I think Paulista could be a good replacement for Mertesacker already though.

Yes, if you look at the other players in the squad - Koscielny, the fullbacks, the entire midfield - I think we could even do better than Paulista. And we have tried as well - we had a confirmed Howedes bid rejected.

But yes, we really need a backup DM, I don't Arteta anywhere on the pitch in PL and CL games.

We've already added lens to the team and aiming to sign an attacking centre midfielder before start of season. If that happens then at £5.5m defoe def worth a punt. He's a proven premier league goalscorer unlike someone a promoted club such as deeney.

No chance. We've signed lens who will play left of the front three and it'll be either johnson or giacherrini on the right. We literally had no other options last year, hence why he was used in that position.

I think so to start with, although I can't guarantee it 100%. We're trying to offload fletcher. Wickham would obviously be a worry. At this stage though I def think we'll start the season with defoe, although heard we're trying to sign another striker. That won't happen until we sell fletcher or graham though.

I am going for 5 big hitting defenders this season

    Allows

    Schmeichel/ Fabianski

    Clyne Ivan Mert Azpilicueta Koscielny

    Silva Ozil Hazard

Rooney (Wilson and Deeney rotating home and away)

    Subs: Barry, Wanyama

    1. Allows flexibility.
    2. Can bring in Henderson for Barry if I downgrade Hazard but with over 50% ownership and half of that sticking the armband on him he is a must really not to lose ground.

I can get Augerio in for Rooney simply by downgrading Hazard to Fabregas.

      -------------------Coquelin------------------Cazorla/Ramsey
      --Ramsey/Walcott-----------Ozil-------------------------Sanchez

Walcott, Ramsey, Cazorla, Ox and even Wilshere compete for the two spots, so even for someone of Ramsey's quality, there should be rotation.

HVT was mentioning this morning about a possible Tri-athlon league where you total all points from a single GW from Sky, UFPL, FPL together and see who comes out best across all formats of FF.

Would there be any interest in this?

For those that have played all 3 games in a single season before do you foresee any major issues about running something like this?

Yep. The total points system effectively gives a bigger weighting to the games which are higher scoring.

Really you need to try and find a means of levelling them out.

Average % position might do it - sounds like quite a boring format though. My average relative % position is better than yours doesn't have a great ring to it.

Yeah good point - I assume some kind of formula could work but not something I'd be great at to be honest

I'm not sure I could go through with such a light defence so already made a couple of changes to take out Benteke for Sakho and bring in Azpilcueta for Simpson (could even spread the 2m instead).

I do like the idea of going big up front to start. One mid + Costa and Rooney to Aguero is an easy upgrade too.

Well if you want my opinion on your team:

I like Panti in the goal, tried to do this myself but can't find a way to fund my Chelsea cover by getting Azpilicueta (have Courtois atm).

Would prefer Williams over Jenkinson, rotates well with Leicester and Saints (since you have Huth and Cedric).

Would also prefer Henderson/Milner over Chadli but ofcourse Chadli is also a good pick for 7.0, and Ozil/Cazorla over Ramsey.

A bit worried about the lack of Hazard/Fabregas in the middfield too.

Not sure about Sakho either (also have him though...) but haven't heard anything about him lately, which isn't a good sign I suppose.

Anyone offer some advice? Currently on this:

    Schmeichel / Butland

    Cedric / Koscielny / Mings / Shawcross / Morgan

    Ozil / Walcott / Depay / Milner / Ritchie

    Rooney / Costa / Deeney

    Issues:

    - Not sure on Milner at all, but I also don't like the look of many other 7.0m mids, so I'm not sure what to do with him.

    - Is 3 Arsenal players too much? Was torn between Kos and Azpi but opted for Kos because of fixtures and better attacking threat?

    - Lastly, is it too risky going without Hazard because of his 53% ownership?

Opinions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Ozil and Walcott together are nice but Milner, Ritchie and Deepay combined are a bit punty. No City cover is going to hurt you as they play West Brom and could run up a cricket score.

how is milner punty? roven fpl player when in centre mid, nailed, and highest mins played to chances created ratio of all players in the premier league last year

Yeah- Last year when he played for City.

He is with a new club and it's too early to tell how he is going to bed in or where he will play.

Not sure what to do to change the Midfield up though, had Ayew before, but again he's a punt... and I don't like the look of Chadli either?

I'd like to get Sterling in, but can't see any way of doing it without dropping one of the big boys?

I think Milner will do well, give him a chance for a bit - can see a decent amount of goals and assists from him for only 7m, plus looks to be on corners with Benteke now in the box (when he starts playing!) I'm definitely starting with him.

Good looking team although no Hazard is a bit risky (especially with no Fabregas to cover that area) but it's a pretty good balance overall. I'd say Ozil and Walcott double up probably not the best idea and also what's your aguero contingency plan?

Milner is fine (see my post below)

3 arsenal is fine, they are gonna be super strong this year

I don't like having both ritchie and deeney - youre gonna have to bench one of them every week, so may as well downgrade ritchie to a 4.5 and invest the money in rest of team - otherwise that value is gonna be sitting on the bench doing nothing

get huth instead of morgan, morgan gonna be rested after gold cup

of course no hazard is a gamble - but it's not madness to go without him

you just have to go with your gut feeling on that choice

I think Milner is a fine choice at 7.0m, Hendo and Chadli just as good.

3 Arsenal should be fine, I only chose Azpi over Kosc because of the Chelsea factor.

Could go without Hazard to begin with and maybe WC early on to get him in, but in my opinion 53% is too high to leave him out.

My thought is that maybe if I leave out Hazard and have Costa I can get away with it for the fist few weeks seeing as Chelsea don't have the best fixtures.

You think I should downgrade Ritchie?! Not sure about that as I like his attacking threat and Bournemouth's reliance on him for set pieces and goals.

I'm planning on getting Aguero in GW3 hopefully by either going Costa + Rooney to Benteke + Aguero or downgrading Walcott when Sanchez is back?
