The imminent return of premium powerhouse Sergio Aguero, coupled with the poor form of Alexis Sanchez, ensured there was plenty of advice from our community writers and hot topic posters for those looking to freshen up their squads. Fifth midfielders, team form, Chelsea’s malaise and the best striking options are amongst issues covered, as we also catch up on the best Members stats and latest from our community leagues.

The Community Articles

Our community writers have been full of good advice this week about the key transfers to consider going into the weekend’s matches.

The Sarjeant offered up his latest colour coded look at team form, while YMA was on hand with his latest bookies based predictions. Also keeping a sharp eye on the betting markets was Jarvish, who has looked to spread betting to see if they can help make up our minds for the best options this weekend and beyond.

Meanwhile, Rakkhi has used the international break to take stock and look back at recent history to see what we can learn from Gameweek 12 table toppers of the last four years, in terms of strikers and teams looking to continue their fine form. The week’s key bandwagons are also analysed in Rodellegabomb‘s look at the most talked-about players ahead of this weekend’s games.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

With injuries mounting up over the international break and Manchester City on the verge of welcoming back injured forward Sergio Aguero, the community has been craving advice on freshening up their forward lines.

Owners of Manchester City’s injured striker Wilfried Bony, such as Sin Espinas Comaderia – Havana Gila,  are amongst those pondering whether to draft in Aguero sooner rather than later. Mr Alex though is less convinced the Argentine can hit the ground running.

There are certainly plenty of other strikers to consider, in particular Olivier Giroud, Romelu Lukaku and Harry Kane, in our discussion on forward options.

With funds needed for the likes of premium options such as Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane, cheap fifth midfielders are back in vogue. Bournemouth’s out of position budget midfielder Josh King is among those Eden Hazardous is eyeing up. But Scored with a Sheep believes King may find himself back on the bench before too long, according to murmurings from the Dorset coast.

Fifth midfielders were also discussed in our look at how best to free up funds in our squads, which also considers the merits of favouring a cheap defender with kind fixtures to lead our substitutes benches.

Amongst the more expensive midfield options being discussed was Liverpool man Roberto Firmino. Irish Madrista has been leading the praises but even he is wondering if it may be folly to punt on him now.

Another midfielder where caution is being exercised is Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez, who, as Saniul pointed out, goes into Gameweek 13 on the back of poor form and possible fatigue after playing 180 minutes for Chile over the international break. The same cannot be said of his team mate Mesut Ozil, who took a break from international duty to spend time on the Arsenal training ground to add to some of the impressive assist and creativity statistics highlighted in Zasa‘s regular pre-Gameweek stat attack.

The entire Chelsea squad, including once prime midfield targets such as Eden Hazard, are being given a wide berth due to their poor form. Despite a fine upcoming schedule, our discussion on Chelsea’s disappointing campaign so far suggest many will continue to distance themselves from Jose Mourinho’s men.

Midfield fears continue amongst Southampton’s ranks for Roscola, who points out that after an international break Sadio Mane is more likely than not to find himself on the bench.

Just how many hours during our working days do we spend chatting about Fantasy Football? Doolittle is about to find out when some changes in his office take effect on Monday and he will no longer be able to access the site at his leisure. As one of our most popular posters, we hope he still sneaks in the odd visit during the day and can still find time in the evening to post.

On the subject of popular posters, this week we revealed who had attracted the most votes from the community for their comments and hot topics. The full top ten can be found here.

Everton? I was a little bit iffy on that one. Potential 0-0 in my eyes.

Fancy a cheeky treble long shot:

        Leicester & Over 2.5 goals
        Arsenal & Over 2.5 goals
        City & BTTS

Looking at 2-1 scorelines or bigger in all 3 games, imo.

Aike. Did they lose? I don't really fancy the other big leagues' fixtures this week, other than the PL. Maybe Atletico, but other than that I'm not confident enough in my personal knowledge on those teams. 🙂

              What Spanish team?

Ah wait it was rangers, I was pondering a few of the Spanish top 7 but went for the shorter odds 'banker' of the old firm side.

Dortmund lost 3-1 off the back of a trademark Hummels defensive error.

    Managing Price Fluctuations (Ighalo/Lukaku)

That thread is all over the place so let me state here why it is best to sell Ighalo after the price rise.

In the short-term their is no net difference. The 0.1 rise on Ighalo is spent entirely on satisfying the increased purchase price of Lukaku.

But, the 0.1 spent on Lukaku is immediately available as SP (theoretically just held as a capital sum invested).

You have received and spent the 0.1, but have a full residual interest in cashing it in, immediately available.

In the other scenario, you can only sell Lukaku for 0.1 less. This is the material difference. The single rise has you halfway to the selling price you have already made by delaying your acquisition.

    1. Puyol Pants Up
      • 11 Years
      10 years, 4 months ago

Disagree. This would only matter if he wanted to sell Lukaku right away.

      1. Ziegler1988
        • 12 Years
        10 years, 4 months ago

But say Lukaku gets injured tomorrow. He has 0.1m less resale than delaying

        1. Puyol Pants Up
          • 11 Years
          10 years, 4 months ago

          Big if...

The more likely scenario is keeping Lukaku for another month. Then selling him.

          1. Ziegler1988
            • 12 Years
            10 years, 4 months ago

Still can't be certain that you'll sell on full value or halfway to another 0.1m resale. It's a very minor issue though, you can say being able to lose 0.1m on an injured player without losing resale is flexibility

          2. Murder on Zidane's Flo…
            • 14 Years
            10 years, 4 months ago

Let me give you something that isn't an if.

You can NEVER be in a worse position selling him at the latter opportunity. Under no possible circumstances.

But you can selling him before the prices. Because the SP begins higher you are ALWAYS one rise behind, not one rise ahead.

This may not cost you, but the best strategy is undoubtedly to sell after the rises.

      2. Murder on Zidane's Flo…
        • 14 Years
        10 years, 4 months ago

There is nothing to disagree with.

It is a fact (distinct rom an opinion that can be disagreed with) that the SP you have for Lukaku is lower when selling him at the earlier opportunity.

You are just being stubborn, which is a pity.

I agree, I sold Aguero and rebought on WC for same reason. I'd rather have higher resale value than 0.1 towards a rise

No brainer of selling ighalo after his rise lol. Who knows maybe lukaku will get a rc/injury thus not rising the extra 0.1

Results say one thing, but the stats tell a different tale. I don't know if many of have been swayed by Newcastle's string of 2 CS's in a row vs (STK, bou). So I just wanted to point how awfully poor & lucky their defense was to not concede 2+ goals.

    Bournemouth 0-1 Newcastle:
    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CTN9uk0UwAAKrdG.png:large -
    Shots: 20-2, Pass acc: 86%-72%, Chances created: 12-1, Possession: 60%-40%, Crosses: 44-3.

    Newcastle 0-0 Stoke:
    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CSqjJfCXAAEb0Vs.png -
(close match, poor finishing both ways, Newcastle the better attacking side)

This table highlights their poor overall performance these last six GW's. Sort by SitB, Big chances, & headed goal attempts conceded. Also count up how many chances they've conceded from all three zones. Staggering. Last six (CHE, mci, NOR, sun, STK, bou) - http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/public-stats-tables/view/6810/

    Just sayin'

1 pt behind league leader who has double arsenal defence...waited too long to get one of them
also Mig clean sheet chances are like .001%

Now that I'm not going down the Aguero route planning to spend some of the 3.4 ITB. Worried that Myhill will soon be a deputy with Foster ready to get back.

Myhill > DDG (for a hit)

    Yay or nay?

    DDG
    Bellerin Cedric Williams
    KDB Sanchez Mane Mahrez Bolasie
    Vardy Pelle (c)

    Hennessy Igahlo Sagna Moreno

Not sure on keeper choice and bench order.

Sanchez. If I had Bolasie i'd also be tempted to have a punt on him.

Have gone Ozil (C), Mahrez (VC) for now, but will be keeping an eye out for Vardy news in the morning, still tempted to risk it on him.

Considering Pelle's away record is it worth:
    Pelle & Kompany----Kane & Dier -8?
Have to take a -4 anyway as onky 2 defenders playing.

I got Rose in this week. He's more injury prone, but 3 assists in 3 games was hard to resist.

Anything you would want to change about this team or the XI?

    Butland,
    van Dijk, Janmaat, Nyom,
    Sanchez, de Bruyne, Bolasie, Mahrez,
    Vardy, Lukaku (c), Kane.

And a bench of Ruddy, Huth, Dawson and Westwood.

***Just have enough money to do Vardy to Aguero for free next week...
