Suspensions and late transfer window deals left many of our community’s best-laid plans in tatters.

Our hot topic posters sift through the cinders of a fiery transfer deadline day and the knock-on effect on wildcards wielded over the international break.

Meanwhile, our community articles look back at a disastrous set of predictions for the Scouts last weekend. Our Members tables focus on attacking defenders and midfield maestros and we also take a look at those best placed to cope with evolving team sheets at the top of our community competitions.

The Community Articles

Sergio Aguero and Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s lack of goals last weekend meant our Scout predictions were less than successful during Gameweek 3, according to Andy85wsm’s latest look at our crystal ball gazing skills.

One of our Spot the Differentials of the near future is likely to be Stoke’s new loan signing Wilfried Bony, who has joined from Manchester City. Zlatan Time, is among our community writers who thinks Stoke boss Mark Hughes has done very well to nab the former Swansea star.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Transfer deadline day proved an eventful one for the community, with rotation and relegation looming large over some teams. Our hot topic the day after the deadline closed looked at the impact of the new arrivals and departures on our plans.

The search for cheap goalkeepers was among the key issues, with Hull’s successful recruitment of David Marshall seemingly sounding the death knell for Eldin Jakupovic’s time as a budget option between the sticks.

Meanwhile, as King Nidge points out, Sunderland’s failure to transfer in Boavista shot stopper Mika Domingues means that our hopes hang on Jordan Pickford in the sub-4.5 keeper bracket. It is worth noting that the Wearsiders are looking for special dispensation to sign another stopper, whilst Pickford withdrew from England Under 21 duties with a thigh problem in midweek.

Everton had mixed fortunes in the transfer window, missing out to Spurs for the signature of Moussa Sissoko, but securing West Ham forward Enner Valencia on loan. Tim Howard’s Beard was on hand to assess the Toffees’ prospects post transfer window.

He also took a look at how Chelsea may line up, following the London side’s recruitment of their former defender David Luiz from Paris Saint Germain, as well as left back Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina. Staying with Chelsea, RoysCallerAnne pondered why it is that the Fantasy Premier League bonus point system has such a dislike of their striker Diego Costa.

Another intriguing transfer this week was Manchester City’s Wilfried Bony to Stoke on loan. Andy85wsm takes a look at his chances of success in comparison with another similarly priced striker, Christian Benteke, who swapped Liverpool for Crystal Palace this summer.

Meanwhile, In Like Flynn is less than impressed with some of the high prices clubs are paying for average squad players who may struggle to even secure a regular first XI spot.

Sergio Aguero’s three-match ban, handed out this week after his altercation with Winston Reid last weekend, has also altered many best laid plans. We asked who is wildcarding this week to cope with his loss, while Triggerlips looked at the best time to bring the Argentine striker back in.

Among key targets for wildcarders are West Ham players, who are embarking on a favourable run as Jay’s analysis showed.

Arsenal players are also high on many of the community’s watchlists. But, asked S Kuqi, which of Alexis Sanchez or Mesut Ozil represents the best use of our money? For Carpe Diem, Sanchez looks a great option, particularly as the Chilean seems to be unaffected by fatigue when returning from international duty.

With considerable transfer activity anticipated as the international break marches on, Sinik sparked a discussion on the thresholds for price changes. Among those to see their price rocket is Watford midfielder Etienne Capoue. FPLVirgin popped by today to ask whether the budget pick has earned a starting XI berth after his two goals so far this term.

Finally, Diva urged community members to look beyond overall rank history when receiving advice.

The Members Tables

Manchester City’s midfield talent come under scrutiny in Ziro’s latest table. He also spent this week looking over Liverpool’s attacking options. Meanwhile attacking defenders were the subject of Andy85wsm’s most recent table, as well this statistical construction by Flashmule.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing the safety score was 34, which saw 157 managers depart and 2,900 remain.

Cak Juris is the new leader of Red Lightning’s Top 10K Any Season mini-league. This is his fifth season and he’s never finished outside the top 11,000.

The Irish Contingent competition, which is organised by HVT, is led by Godot, closely followed in second place by RoysCallerAnne.

Facer retains top spot in the FFS Moderator and Contributors league going into Gameweek 4, closely followed by Evs.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Cheers. Interesting. All it takes is one injury and things can change. Something has definitely happened behind the scenes then. And I read something where PSG were very unhappy with Sakho's professionalism and attitude. Must be something in it.

Hmmm... not sure where you read that from. I can't remember anything of the sort, I think he was always well respected for his attitude exactly, that's why he was their captain at 17 years of age. They only sold him because he wanted more guaranteed first team football and there was an established pair ahead of him. Now, I think it was a bad choice of course, because when your team plays 4 competitions, 3 CB's will certainly get a good amount of football. The 4th may have pretty restricted minutes, but even the 4th is much needed.

I think the problem here is that Sakho has been destined to be off the field for too long (taking the ban and then the injury) and got bored. And so he lacked some discipline. And then Klopp took a bit harsh route in disciplining him and that backfired by escalating the situation. Because, come on, he's not offering other injured players to get their fitness up by taking a season on loan in a low mid-table club. It's a punishment. And Sakho, who pledged his future to Liverpool whole heartedly, is in his full rights to say no to such idea.

If things continue this way, I expect a transfer in January. He's going to be the rare CL eligible top class CB by then, for teams that need a reinforcement. By the way, I know just the club that most certainly _will_ need that reinforcement, and it happens to be a one in which Sakho has said he wants to still play one day.

Agree with all the points. There's no doubt in his ability, and this has been reaffirmed by Jurgen Klopp, local journalists and so forth. I'd be gutted if he left in January/next summer, but it's looking an option with him being out of favour now.

Here's what happened at PSG: https://twitter.com/Kop_Central/status/770884906276757508

He was a huge figurehead at PSG and was their youngest ever captain, if I'm not mistaken. A proper leader figure and a really good CB. But they bought Thiago Silva, who's a better LCB, and Sakho wanted to play as you said. The likes of Matuidi have always spoken highly of Sakho as a player on and off the pitch. But I don't think we can deny there are problems with his attitude/professionalism - its the reason he's fallen out with a manager who loves him and rates him highly. Sadly.

I was going to give a proper answer to this, but it got way too long even for me. So I just say that I've been following PSG very closely from pre-Qatar era, and can say that the journalist there pulled that out of thin air. Nothing of the sort was ever stated by anybody who actually worked with Sakho either as a player or as a coach. On the contrary, everybody spoke highly of his attitude and professionalism even at the bad times.

One thing I mention though, just to underline how completely bs that article is: the journalist's claim that PSG was more patient with domestic talent than any other European club would is the exact opposite of the truth. PSG has since then understood the mistake they made by overlooking their own academy players.

Mauricio Pochettino had just seen his Tottenham side draw their second game of the season when he gave a clue to his dramatic deadline night move for Moussa Sissoko. Pochettino does not go into specifics much when discussing players or transfers, but in a corridor at White Hart Lane after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool, he said what he would be looking for in the window’s final days.

“We need a player who is more direct, more aggressive offensively,” Pochettino revealed. “Because we have players like Eriksen, [Heung-Min] Son or Lamela who like the ball played into their feet. So we need someone who has characteristics like we saw from Liverpool, like Sadio Mané, the type of player that can break the defensive line. I'm not talking about kicking or punching someone, only running and having the right mentality.”

Then grabban and king fighting it out in support role. Although I guess stanislas will compete for no.10 aswell?

Still could turn up for general chat, couldn't he?

On the other hand, he might want to avoid that in fear of too harsh banter after having had such a bad start. Like, if he really touted some players here that ended up failing, or was negative about some that have been great assets and everybody else owns. You know, he's comes out as extremely confident, even stubborn, about his choices, so when they go wrong that's an easy target. He took it pretty badly when we laughed at him last season after he sold Kun right before his 5 goal night.

I haven't seen any posts from him lately, but his team still appears to be active - he played his wildcard in GW2, and made a further transfer on 27th August for GW3.
He's having a terrible season so far though - currently 560th out of 561 in Top 10k Any Season with an overall rank of 2,711,568.

I wouldn't have a problem with double West Brom personally as you'd only really play both for their best fixtures given your other defenders are pretty solid.

Cech isn't a bad pick though, I just like keeping keepers cheap generally.

I've gone with benteke and Slimani but very torn between these 4. Any other input welcomed!

Benteke - amazing service waiting for a striker. Palace don't score many
Bony - prolific striker, Stoke v attacking under sparky
Slimani - stunning player, Leicester v attacking plus Mahrez service
Lukaku - big pondering carthorse but playing for new manager may become prolific again

I like that plan although lack the balls required to ditch Ibra

It doesn't take balls to ditch Ibra.....It takes balls to be run into a burning building asa fireman or patch folk up in A&E as a nurse....Ditching Ibra is quiet easy really.

Both roughly as appealing as each other. Can you not get them both?

        @Shipstontrev

What are your thoughts on Josh King? I fancy him as a 4th mid enabler

Someone mentioned Wilshire could play the no 10 rather than King, but seems unlikely IMO

King has really come on a lot since he joined, he nearly got an equaliser at West Ham and scored a good goal at Palace. If Wilshere does well, he could benefit from the better service. He also plays 90 minutes, unlike Gadton Ramirez, who is the same price. Fixtures after West Brom aren't too kind though, MCI away in GW5.

So will Wilshire play CM then? Rather than no10!?

I think so, maybe replacing Arter, who uses his mouth as a card magnet.

Now that Kun is out, I pretty much have to get Sanchez or Ozil...

With Giroud pretty much back, is it fair to say Sanchez is back on the wing, and therefore Ozil better in terms of price:point ratio?
