As was the case last week, the Fantasy Football Scout Community’s attention has been split roughly down the middle with Fantasy World Cup approaching its climax and the launch of Fantasy Premier League 2018/19 provoking debate.

Rainer and the exquisitely named Ohhh Shola Ameobi helped bridge the two games with a look at the Premier League teams most affected by the ongoing tournament and when the players involved in the 2014 World Cup returned to domestic action.

We’ve got a round-up of the week’s hot topics, and the usual array of Community tables and competitions, in our regular article below.

The Hottest Topics

This time last week, we were midway through the World Cup quarter-finals and Legomane asked whether sticking or twisting was the best option regarding Fantasy World Cup captaincy.

G-Whizz returned with his regular clean sheet odds hot topic ahead of the semi-finals, while rainy mused on the anticlimax that was the yellow card count.

Rainer, meanwhile, helpfully pointed out that Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea could be badly hit by their players returning late from international duty.

Before the semi-finals commenced, our Community discussed their transfers, captains and chips. With England and Belgium set to contest the third-place play-off later today, Siva Mohan looked at the rotation between the semi-finals and the fairly meaningless “bronze medal” match in the 2014 World Cup.

Legomane returned with a stick-or-twist semi-final special, as did G-Whizz with his last look at the clean sheet odds of this World Cup.

Ohhh Shola Ameobi examined the precedent of when the Premier League players involved in the semi-finals of the 2014 World Cup returned to their respective clubs.

World Cup ongoing or not, there’s no escaping the buzz around the FFS Community regarding the FPL launch.

Maximus Bonimus Pointimus asked if other managers adopted a player-orientated or structure-based approach to their Gameweek 1 squads, while Giggs Boson looked at the merits of both goalkeeper rotation and one Charlie Daniels.

Holding Matip held court while discussing five at the back and value according to position, while HamezMace floated the idea of a very early wildcard.

Rich2086 and Prøfeßor Bear gave a rundown of the Wolves side and warned us not to write off their assets, before CloudSky looked at some of the eye-catching fixture runs in the first quarter of the season.

Eden Wizard, meanwhile, suggested that Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero could well play together at the start of the season.

Norman Conquest rounded up the latest additions to the FPL game and their respective prices.

Our “members only” hot topics concentrated on the Rate My Team launch and, using this tool, what the best team over the first six Gameweeks would be.

The Eliteserien summer break was also a source of discussion, with Dupuytrens looking ahead to the transfer window and European Under-19 Championship.

Community Tables

Our members have been hard at work this week, creating no fewer than 13 public stats tables. FPL Virgin, in particular, has been beavering away, creating nine of those tables including the best defence of last season and the talisman theory.

Wainright looked at defenders who made the most penalty box touches, while easilythebest listed the players who had the most “big chances” last season.

Hotdogs-for-tea, meanwhile, rounded up the defenders who created the most chances and were the most attacking in 2017/18.

Community Tournaments

Ahead of the third-place play-off and final, competition in the Fantasy Football Scout mini-league for the McDonald’s FIFA World Cup game is hotting up. The current top of the league reads as follows:

1. Sladuna (385 points)
2. Lincon316 (363 points)
3. Ludaslol (362 points)
4. SmokinBadger (361 points)
5=. Matt5138008 (358 points)
5=. McGettigan16 (358 points)

Our Mods and Cons league, meanwhile, shaped up like this:

1. ZidanRamos (336 points)
2. GSumner (323 points)
3. JohannesN (309 points)
4. Jackpenn (300 points)
5. Matzi11a (296 points)

The latest update for Frøgball, which uses combined Fantasy scores to represent different nations, is here.

If you are running a community tournament or are thinking about starting one, and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round-ups, please email us a summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet, or head to head competition at geoff@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Selling Kane, Lingard, Fellaini, C.Sanchez and Stones

Buying Hazard, Pogba, RLC, Tielemans and Munier (0.0 ITB)

Chasing a 16 point deficit. We'll both play max cap, so hoping I can get a higher scorer from 15 decent players, no slackers. Are there any obvious players I've missed with a "high ceiling", as they say?

My other players are Mbappe*, Lukaku, Modric, KDB*, Pavard, Hernandez*, Courtois and Subasic*. * = currently a differential.

Stones would have been a differential for me, but I want to go Belgium-heavy (6 players), and don't want my Belgium attack cancelled out by my 3 England defenders.

Rival has Kane, and I doubt he'll sell him, because he's been arguing with me about how good Kane is.

Selling Modric, Lingard, Fellaini, Subasic, C.Sanchez

Buying Chadli, Tielemans, RLC, Lloris, Pogba.

But it's too boring to explain ebverything. Nobody cares 😀 Thanks for feedback

You’re using your wildcard? I won’t get into why you waited until now to use is but your lack of Belgian attack is worrying me. Belgium is very close to their original XI, England has made 5 changes. I see a thumping.

Looks good to me. I prefer to back a side from today's games, as it might be more open. Then back the opposite defence and defence(s) from the final (as you've done with France). As it stands, though, I think Kane is a good captaincy option since you have no Belgium defence. However, if you're not chasing anything, then it's okay to play the odds with Haz/Lukaku against England defence and use the money (perhaps Hernandez > Munier? Perhaps not worth it)

I think Belgium and England will both concede. Stones and Maguire are there for goal threat. I don't see the point of Meunier today.

I'd stack Belgium attack. Something like Hazard, Lukaku, Mbappe, KDB. Then fill in with French defense and the budget starters in Tielemanns and RLC.

Would advise you dump Chelsea assets regardless. Willian looks like he could be off. If he stays, could be a bargain but then again he has always flattered to deceive. Can't think of any nailed 5.5 Chelsea defender. Willian to Jota or Siggy if you can make it work for me and Chelsea 5.5 to Coleman. Also personally prefer Auba to Agu
