2017/18 was a season of mixed fortunes for Fantasy owners of Tottenham Hotspur players.

Harry Kane matched his best-ever single-season haul for league goals (technically beating it after the Premier League goals accreditation panel retrospectively awarded him Christian Eriksen’s strike in the 2-1 win over Stoke City), but will also be remembered for frustrating blanks in home matches against Swansea City, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Brighton and Hove Albion, West Ham United and Huddersfield Town. A fair share of Fantasy Premier League managers will, meanwhile, still be ruing their “Kanexit” strategy in December when the England striker punished his deserting owners with back-to-back hat-tricks.

Christian Eriksen‘s total of 11 strikes (one subsequently scratched) was his best goal haul in a Premier League season, but the Danish international recorded only half of the assists (ten) he had managed in 2016/17.

Dele Alli scored 50 fewer FPL points in 2017/18 than he had managed the previous campaign, with his goal tally (nine) exactly halved. Even Son Heung-min‘s goal (12) and assist (eight) returns, as impressive as they were, were down on 2016/17.

Spurs’ wing-backs, most notably Ben Davies and Kieran Trippier, coupled their clean sheet prospects with regular attacking returns but were at the mercy of Mauricio Pochettino’s irksome rotation policy on the flanks; not one of the Lilywhites’ four full-backs started more than 26 league matches in 2017/18.

The north London club are, at least, a comfortingly unchanging presence amid this summer of big-money moves and new manager recruitment. At the time of writing, Spurs were one of only two Premier League clubs – the other being Burnley – who have yet to sign a player during the current transfer window.

Pochettino will be taking charge of Spurs for the fifth successive season, meanwhile, and we can expect the same brand of quick-pressing, attacking football he has cultivated in his four years at White Hart Lane. Although Pochettino occasionally rolled out a three-man backline in 2017/18, we will inevitably see more of the Argentinean coach’s preferred 4-2-3-1 system again this season.

In-depth data on Spurs’ season is available in the Members’ Area, while Fantasy Football Scout members can also read our detailed analysis of the key statistics in the article below.

In picking a defender a how much does threat factor into your equation? Obviously Azplicueta is a stay at home defender and Alonso a wingback but Alonso's threat ratings were through the roof.

quite a bit actually, thair attacking is what sets them apart from the rest in the same price bracket.

Almost none. I've always ignored the Threat rating on the FPL site, if that's the threat factor you mean.

Does anyone has stats on Arnie vs top 6 from last season? His form is exemplary but want to know if he was fixture proof last season

I don't know your definition of fixture proof, but he was inconsistent, despite being explosive. Trolled me actually. Kept him for like 4 blanks straight, sold him, then he started scoring. I would manage my expectations.

    Foster (Stekellenburg)
    Robertson Shaw Coleman PVA
    Salah Sane Sanchez
    Aguero Arnautovic

Remaining position will be rotated between :

    Sorloth Hughs Masuaku

    Thoughts appreciated 🙂

Wan-Bissaka is the other rotation option £4.0M palace...

Any other £4.0M defenders that emerge could replace Coleman or PVA.... Ideally Bennett or Bednarak

Shaw will 100% start the season for Utd... we all know he’s better than young, it’s whether he can reach the form he had before his leg break injury... I think he can ... certainly he’s back as fit as he’s ever been.

Morning, how does this look please?

    Ryan
    Robertson | PVA | Mendy
    Salah | D.Silva | Richarlison | Neves | Cairney
    Kane* | Aguero

    Button | AWB | Peltier | Kamara

    0ITB

*Assuming Kane is back, if not Auba in for Kane and Jota in for Neves

    Long term plan is:
    - D.Silva to KdB
    - Aguero to Firmino

    Feels nice and balanced.

    Thanks

      It’s actually very good!

Obviously Aubamayang instead of Kane from the off would e my choice and use the funds to upgrade elsewhere but if Kane’s back its class.

      Confident on David Silva starting?

      Thoughts on mine above?

I’d actually go Gundy ahead of Silva until Kdb is back.
I’d go Kane to aubameyang, and with that extra $ I’d be upgraded Neves to Jota (if u want to stick with wolves).... Neves scores afew crackers from long range in the past, but they are rare goals and plays very deep. Do not expect much from him fantasy wise, where as Jota scored 18 last season and is heavily involved in their attack.

    Hi guys. RMT please.

    Foster
    Mendy | Shaw | Robertson
    Salah | Mahrez | Mkhi | Richarlison |
    Pereyra
    Kun | Firmino

    Button | Wab-bissaka | Peltier | Karama

Weakest bench I've had for the start of a season so not sure. 0itb

So do I downgrade firm to arnie and spread the £££

Shaqiri is a real punt! I presumed they signed him as back to Mané and Salah who should start GW1. Also not a big fan of money ITB to start, prefer getting best team possible out there. So I’d say upgrade Shaq with that ITB, maybe Siggy.

    Morning all.

Please let me know what you think of the following:

    Foster
    Mendy V.Aanholt Robertson
    Mhiki Salah Mahrez Richarlison
    Aguero Arnie Zaha

    Bench: Patricio, Stephens, W-Biss

Think it is balanced and seems template. Still undecided over switching Aguero to Auba.

Might go for a 3-5-2 and downgrade Zaha and upgrade Stephens to Jota or Hughes.

    Appreciate any comments....

Like it a lot! Good balance, captain options.

Richarlison is the one I can’t decide on. Currently have Sigurdson instead, but Rich could be great value if he gets his form back.

I pretty much know which teams I want played from but can’t settle on the actual players.

    A. Sigurdson, Townsend, Kamara (bench only)

    B. Richarlison, Zaha, 4.5mid (bench only)

I prefer Sig over Rich, but Zaha over Towns, but can’t afford both.
    Thoughts?

I prefer B as its seems like it has the potential to have more fire power. Monitoring Zaha's situation at the moment to see if he does move to another club...

Which one you like better? Kinda into Sanchez, given he is playing as striker. Have been great last two games.

    1.
    Patricio
    Shaw PVA/Bailly Robertson
    Sane Salah Sanchez Pedro Richarlisson
    Lacazette Arnautovic

    2.
    Patricio
    Shaw PVA/Bailly Robertson Tomkins/Cedric
    Sane Salah Sanchez 6.5
    Aguero Arnautovic

Pretty similar teams, pretty much Laca and Pedro vs Kun and a 4.5 defender

I feel Lamela maybe worth adding to your team. Because, since coming back from injury he seems hungry (game against Leicester at Wembley last season). Having a good pre-season. And likely to be starting?! I think yes, due to the world cup etc.
