More pre-season problems for Man United as Liverpool dominate

There were contrasting fortunes for Manchester United and Liverpool in their pre-season meeting this weekend.

While Jurgen Klopp’s side once again looked like a team worth trusting with Fantasy Premier League investment, the reasons to avoid Manchester United continue to grow.

We’ve taken a look at the big clash for Scout Notes…

Manchester United 1-4 Liverpool

  • Goals: Andreas Pereira | Sadio Mané (£9.5m), Daniel Sturridge (£6.0m), Sheyi Ojo, Xherdan Shaqiri (£7.5m)
  • Assists: None | Mohamed Salah (£13.0m), Shaqiri, Andrew Robertson (£6.0m), Ben Woodburn

Manchester United’s defensive woes worsened over the weekend as they were thrashed 4-1 by Liverpool in Michigan. Chris Smalling (£6.0m) pulled up in the warm-up and was forced out of the game, while Luke Shaw (£5.0m) sat out the match too. That meant that Eric Bailly (£5.5m) had to play in the meeting while carrying an injury himself, and Jose Mourinho also revealed that Nemanja Matic (£5.0m) would miss the start of the season.

“Smalling? I’ve no idea (about a return). Shaw? I’ve no idea. Matic had a surgery. Yes, of course (he is out for the start of the season). I don’t know (about a return). He came from the World Cup with an injury and the time he had to rest in the holiday was not enough to resolve the problem.”

Such a slew of injuries could seriously damage United’s clean sheet prospects for the beginning of the season with Antonio Valencia (£6.5m) potentially out for a month, Diogo Dalot (£5.5m) not available until September and Marcos Rojo (£5.0m) and Matteo Darmian (£5.0m) destined for exits. There hasn’t been too much interest in the Red Devil’s defenders thus far, Bailly the most popular with just 5.8 percent backing. However, David De Gea (£6.0m) has become the most fashionable shot stopper and he could be set for some sales in the coming days. Since Friday, the Spaniard has already lost 0.4 percent ownership, with Ederson (£5.5m) or Alisson Becker (£5.5m) potential alternatives to the United man.

Man United were equally poor at the opposite end of the field, mustering just three shots on goal. One of those was Andreas Pereira’s impressive first-half free-kick but forward players Alexis Sánchez (£10.5m) and Juan Mata (£6.5m) were starved of service playing in front of a second-string midfield. Anthony Martial (£7.5m) was not involved again and it looks as if the problems are mounting for Mourinho, which may put Fantasy managers off owning United assets.

“Antonio Valencia comes from holiday – I think too much holiday for him. His condition was not good when he was back, then injury and also go back. Anthony Martial has the baby and after the baby is born – beautiful baby, full of health, thank God – he should be here and he is not here. So we have Alexis (Sanchez) and (Juan) Mata who play every minute of every match and now we have Real Madrid and after that Bayern Munich and that’s our start.”

On the other hand, Liverpool demonstrated their credentials for Gameweek 1 investment with another strong performance. Of particular note was Sadio Mané dispatching his second penalty-kick of pre-season, despite the fact that Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) had won it. Also on the pitch at the time was James Milner (5.5m), long-time taker, and Fabinho (£6.0m) whose history suggested he could be in the conversation. The fact that they did not step up for this one does imply that the Senegalese forward could be set to take spot kicks in the league this season. Salah’s penalty record at Liverpool is scored one, missed one, while Roberto Firmino (£9.5m) has missed two from three he has taken.

Xherdan Shaqiri (£7.5m) put on another good display which could see him force his way into the starting line-up earlier than expected, especially with Firmino still absent. The Swiss international played in an advanced role against Manchester United providing an assist and scoring a spectacular bicycle kick in the second-half. Also pushing for first-team involvement is Daniel Sturridge (£6.0m) whose substitute appearance in this match provided his fourth goal of pre-season – no Liverpool player has more so far.

The battle between Joe Gomez (£5.0m) and Ragnar Klavan (£4.5m) to start at centre-back alongside Virgil van Dijk (£6.0m) for Gameweek 1 was not furthered by this particular match. Gomez started Liverpool’s previous encounter with Klavan replacing him at half-time, this time around it was the Estonian who got the nod from the beginning. He played 45 minutes before Nathaniel Phillips came on for him while Gomez replaced van Dijk in the 65th minute. We will definitely need to follow this situation more throughout the summer.

MANCHESTER UNITED XI (3-5-1-1): Grant (J Pereira 45’); Fosu-Mensah, Bailly, Tuanzebe (Gomes 81’); Mitchell (Fred 71’), McTominay, A Pereira, Herrera (Bohui 81’), Darmian; Mata (Chong 71’), Sánchez (Williams 81’).

LIVERPOOL XI (4-3-3): Grabara (Kelleher 45’); Moreno (Robertson 65’), Klavan (Phillips 45’), van Dijk (Gomez 65’), Camacho (Chrivella 65’); Lallana (Woodburn 45’), Fabinho (Jones 65’), Milner (Grujic 65’); Mané (Ojo 45’), Solanke (Sturridge 65’), Salah (Shaqiri 45’).

Don't worry too much of it for now, still some time for tinkering!

Probably too much spent for your GKs. If you're going premium, go with a 4.0m backup.

Alonso is a bit at risk for rotation, same with Stones. I'd look to Mendy instead. And maybe instead of Alonso I'd go Robertson or Coleman.

Nice in midfield and forward. I'm not sold on Jorginho, I'd look to try to get to Pedro

  5. Arsenal review: who might be nailed?
    Deulofail

Which Arsenal players have a chance to become nailed? Which should we avoid due to the uncertainty of having a new manager?

Emery has played 4-2-3-1 in the last 2 International Champions Cup games. However, this is still pre-season with no Torreira. He favoured 4-3-3 at PSG and 4-2-3-1 previously in Spain. Here are the ways in which I see the current Arsenal players slotting into these formations. Where there are multiple options for one slot, I have depicted the rough preference from left to right with slashes to separate the players.

    4-2-3-1

    GK: Leno/Cech
    DEF: Bellerin/Lichtsteiner/Chambers - (Mustafi/Sokratis/Mavropanos/Chambers)*2 - Kolasinac/Monreal/Maitland-Niles
    CM: Torreira/Elneny - Ramsey/Guendouzi/Xhaka/Maitland-Niles/Elneny
    AM: Mkhitaryan/Nelson/Perez - Ozil/Mkhitaryan/Smith-Rowe - Aubameyang/Ramsey/Iwobi/Welbeck
    ST: Lacazette/Aubameyang/Perez/Welbeck

    4-3-3

    GK: Leno/Cech
    DEF: Bellerin/Lichtsteiner/Chambers - (Mustafi/Sokratis/Mavropanos/Chambers)*2 - Kolasinac/Monreal
    MID: Ramsey/Xhaka/Guendouzi - Torreira/Elneny - Xhaka/Guendouzi/Maitland-Niles
    FWD: Mkhitaryan/Ozil/Nelson/Perez - Lacazette/Aubameyang/Perez/Welbeck - Aubameyang/Iwobi/Welbeck
    __________________________________

    Notes:

    - The only likely mainstays across both formations are Leno, Torreira, Ramsey, Aubameyang and whichever 4 defenders are preferred by Emery.

    - Yes, Lacazette could become nailed in the CF position, but there is too much competiion for that role - as well as the left-side attacking role - for me to confidently conclude that he's nailed (despite Arsenal fans calling for the signing of a big-name winger, myself included). We've also seen with Pep that the idea of risking both of you top strikers together can at least weigh on a manager's mind. We may or may not see rotation affect the CF spot, with Lacazette the most likely candidate for a benching.

    - On the face of it, you could say that Mkhitaryan looks nailed, but in reality, I have no idea who would be preferred on the right-side of a 4-3-3 attack. He should slot nicely into the 4-2-3-1, though.

    - The formation, in part, depends which players remain at the club. Ramsey would likely be nailed in either system, but his move away from the club would likely trigger a greater use of the 4-2-3-1 formation, since there is no one likely to fill his boots in a 4-3-3, making runs from deeps etc.

    - Arsenal are likely to sell at least one of Welbeck and Perez to raise money. As you can see, at least one of them is surplus to requirements. A new quality winger, though, would give the front 3 or 4 some really quality competition, and allow for a rotation of 5 people for 4 spaces in a 4-2-3-1 without reducing the quality of the XI in each game. Such a scenario might spell an exit for 2 of the mentioned attacking players rather than one (including the possibility of loan deals).

    - Emery is known for rotating his FBs, which reduces the appeal of Bellerin, Kolasinac and Monreal. I think we'd all agree that Bellerin is most likely to be the closest to nailed, if you're willing to tke the gamble or back him up with a decent bench option. At 5.0, you might argue that you could do the same with Kolasinc. As much as I love Kolasinac's swashbucklery, I think he may be exposed as a defensive klutz, which could see him dropped for a period (rather than simply rotated). If he can prove himself at the back, he could become as nailed as Bellerin, with Monreal used primarily as competition. It's also worth mentioning that Arsenal are rumoured to be willing to sell Monreal to make funds available elsewhere. I doubt it's true, because he is basically a better version of Lichsteiner (older, wiser back-up), who they just acquired for the other side of the defence. But they may be wanting to make a quick buck for another purchase, and knowing Arsenal, they would likely have another free transfer lined up to come in and support free transfer, Kolasinac.

    - The CBs are a nightmare to predict. I'd love to see Mavropanos get a chance to prove himself, but admittedly that's based on a decent performance in 2 games towards the end of last season, plus 15 minutes before he was sent off at Leicester. Mustafi seems likely to be the first choice CB with new signing Sokratis the next choice. However, Emery is also supposedly in love with Chambers. You might say these two spaces are Chambers of Secrets with Emery wanting to play out from the back with the Philosophy of the Stones. You might.

    - I might be over-romanticising pre-season, but Nelson and Smith-Rowe have stood out in the highlights so far. Other youngsters have looked good too. With a new manager looking to curry favour with the fans, it's not implausible that he gives a couple of these a chance so he can take the glory for fostering homegrown talent (that's what I would do). It also saves money in the long-run, which should go down well with the board, But it's not implausible that these players feature for 0 minutes in the PL this season either.

    - Maitland-Niles was a fan favourite at times last season, with hopes he would get a starting berth this year, but with Guendouzi and Torreira coming in, he's unlikely to be a fantasy prospect at any point this season.

    - Taking over from Maitland-Niles, Guendouzi has been winning the fans' hearts in pre-season. I genuinely hope he gets a chance to oust Xhaka this season, or at least pushes him to become less of a liability. Guendouzi has already been likened to Side-show Bob, of course, but I think he likes like David Luiz in a parallel universe where his body moved in a way that was a bit more predictable for its owner.

    Honourable mentions:

    - I've not included Holding, because I've never seen him have a good game at Arsenal, and I'm hoping he doesn't get a look-in this season (harsh).

    - Koscielny may be back from injury before Christman, and at 33 yeasr old (in September), he may or may not become integral to Arsenal's defence again.

    - Joel Campbell seems likely to never play for Arsenal again.

I'm avoiding completely until GW3 - the mother of all fixture shifts, plus would have had a couple of proper games to have seen how the team/individuals are shaping up under the new manager.

Would certainly not surprise me - always seems to happen when very long-serving managers go (look at Rioch after Graham, and Moyes after Ferguson).

I'm biased but am actually quite impressed by how we've handled the changeover so far. We seem to have much more of a plan than United did when Fergie left. And Rioch wasn't that bad.

      Thanks for this 🙂

At the moment Arsenal assets interest me for 2 slots in my squad , the F1 position and the third or 4th midfielder (M3/M4), depending on what formation I go for.

Lacazette for a 1.5 saving over Aubemayang is attractive, especially if he is the central striker. But I assume Auba is on pens and the no.1 attacking asset they possess, so I assume he is most nailed on. Liverpool have also shown us the wingers can outscore the strikers in certain formations 😉 Is auba worth the 1.5m extra?

And M3/M4 i'm looking at Ramsey or Miki. I notice Miki didn't start the last friendly, I guess if it comes to a straight shootout for a place in the team between him and Ozil, Ozil wins? You suggest Ramsey is nailed on, I think he would be superb in a 4-3-3, but do you reckon he can provide value as one of the double pivots in a 4-2-3-1?

      1. Deulofail

Cheers for the reply RM. Yeah, Aubameyang can clearly still score from the wing https://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2018/07/12/world-cup-final-transfer-tips-the-big-numbers/?hc_page=3#hc_comment_18355816

In pre-season he has often been the farthest forward down the centre as he swaps with Lacazette, too. Likely to be on pens and scores all types of goals. I feel Lacazette will rely on Arsenal's form and fixtures to score (and I think he will score plenty), but Aubameyang is the more fixture proof of the too, given his range and consistency of goal-scoring. Here's more opinion on the debate: https://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2018/07/21/jota-a-viable-out-of-position-fpl-option/?hc_page=10#hc_comment_18392993

In the midfield, I think it's too difficult to discern who wins out of Ozil and Mkhi if they are competing. At 8.5, Ozil is too much of a risk, despite being the slight favourite (probably).

I think Ramsey has already proved tht he can be good value in a double pivot, though I would argue that muchh like Lacazette, he could be relying on a good Arsenal performace to allow him oppotunities in the box. In a 4-3-3 he'll be more attacking in general, of course, so Arseanl don't need to be as dominant or persistent with the counter-attack to get him into shooting positions.

Thanks for the links, interesting stuff! Yeah my own personal opinion is that Auba is every bit as good as Kane but for 1.5m less, he's also a captaincy option too whereas maybe Laca doesn't have that trust yet. (Just as an aside I see that Firmino is one of the most well owned forwards, I could cover his ownership as my F1 striker, but I think theres a chance he misses out in favour of sturridge GW1 anyway, and Mane is the same price as Firmino and on pens, so he might be my 3rd Liverpool asset to go with Mo and Robertson).

Yeah to be honest I don't really like Ozil or Miki, and would prefer to have neither in my team! But at 7.0 I can't really ignore the value he may offer, if he's nailed on to play. You're right about him already proving himself, to an extent, in that position, and I think if the side is built to get the best out of Ramsey he could well outperform his pricetag (and Ozil and Miki), performing as a sort of Lampard-esque figure breaking into the box to finish off attacks.

Goodness me. Another "Firmino isn't 100% guaranteed to start GW1" person around here. We better stick together or the hounds will get us!

Agreed about Aubameyang. Hoping helooks good enough to allow me to drop Salah after 2-4 weeks (if I own Salah from the start).

Uh oh, hounds are coming again.

Haha I've not been around here much over the summer, is everyone convinced Firmino starts GW1? I mean he might, but he's hardly nailed on as he hasn't joined up with their squad yet has he? And even if he is, I think its worth asking the question "is Mane better value?", what with his full pre season, and extra point for a goal, clean sheet, and seemingly on penalties.... I think there's the very real possibility Sturridge steals some of Firmino's minutes too (although same can be said of Shaqiri and Salah/Mane)

Wow big call on Salah! He's fairly fixture proof I think, but its worth considering all alternatives for sure. I think if you have Auba and Salah you can alternate captaincy for the following fixtures over GW1-8:

WHU, cry, WHU or BRI, car, new, SOU or EVE, WAT, ful

Not bad at all. If you think Salah will suffer with fixtures though, there is a nasty little run gw5-8, in which I guess you could make the big call to switch him out for Auba, if you dont own him already, or also KDB, Hazard, or Sanchez.

You can check this thread for just one example of the community's thoughts on Firmino in GW1 and Salah in general. https://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2018/07/19/one-week-until-wasting-your-wildcard-book-release/?hc_page=1#hc_comment_18382625 😀

I agree about Sturridge. Solanke is there too. And it's the perfect time to give them a chance. One week where he has an excuse if it doesn't work. One week where he would otherwise have to explain to Sturridge that he basically doesn't trust him and doesn't want to use him haha.

If I had to bet right this second, I would bet on Firmino starting, but there's more of a doubt with the others being with the team for longer in pre-season. As you say, Firmino's minutes could be curtailed, so if he does start, again it's the perfect opportunity to give Sturridge minutes.

Thanks for the captaincy rotation plan. With Auba's fixtures though, it would be unecessary to rotate. The general consensus on here is that your captain should be your most expensive player, yet many kept Kane while captaining Salah fairly consistently last year, and I think many will captain Auba as you suggested while keeping hold of Salah. The other consensus seems to be that Salah is only good value if you captain him. I'm likely to put 2 and 2 together and sell him as soon as I have faith in another captaincy option. If I don't, I'll keep.

                  Lol, pretty damning!

Yeah Solanke is another threat on occasion. Yeah to be honest I'd get some use out of Sturridge before he inevitably breaks down again! Poor bloke. Totally agree with you, and I think Klopp has been pleasantly surprised and impressed with Sturridge's attitude this pre season. With Klopp being the sort of guy he is, I suspect he will repay that faith and give Sturridge a chance from time to time.

No worries. I think having 2 captaincy options (commonly priced above 10m) is the sweet spot really. Just one and you're at the mercy of a surprise injury or benching, 3 or more and your squad normally becomes inbalanced. Players above 10m can only really justify their value if they are captaincy options from time to time. I think captaining Salah for 5 out the first 8 and Auba for 3/8 gives them both a good chance of justifying their value.

Cool. I was coming at with the assumption that I would have captaincy options in Mane, Aguero and Aubameyang, maybe others, if I start the season without Salah. And at least 2 other captaincy options even if I do start with him (allowing me to downgrade).

That said, I thing Aubameyang by himself would do fine. If the vice captain ever kicks in, it's not like you will have no other players on form with a good fixture, since we've picked many players based on fixtures and will be buying form players too.

Hard to ignore Aguero and Aubameyang at 2.0 less than Salah, which is why I'm quite likely to have both in my GW1 team. If that's at the expense of Salah, so be it, but it doesn't necessarily have to be. We'll see 🙂

Whats the difference between 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3?

I think we need to start refering to formations in both their defencive and attacking shapes.

      1. Deulofail
        • 8 Years

I'd hoped the differences were somewhat self-evident in the player lists for each position. The main difference I see is that there are fewer attacking players in the 4-3-3, but it allows for FBs - and at least one midfielder - to push up more in attack. So the 4-3-3 becomes something like a 3-4-3 in attack, as Torreira joins the CBs. I'm no expert on Emery tactics, but that's what I gather.

Sigh. You came here yesterday for the discussion. You came here today to shut it down. That's not the only information in the post. If you're not keen on reading it, then that's okay. But read it before you criticise, at least.

The post actually suggests that Ozil is nailed in one formation but not in the other. This also has implications for Mkhitaryan and other players. For instance, the chances of Nelson breaking into the first team (perhaps via an injury and/or rotation) are dimished in the 4-3-3, since Ozil and Mkhi are expected to be ahead in the pecking order.

You're turning into quite the wind-up merchant tbh.

From all the preseason matches its seems pretty clear that Ozil is nailed and so the implication of 4-3-3 would be that Mkhi becomes a substitute player.

I'm not sure the chances of Nelson breaking into the team is particularly strong in any formation. Definitely not something to worry about as we approach the season. It has no bearing on building a GW1 team.

Formations though are really difficult to portray in just a few numbers these days. On paper there is barely any difference between a 4-2-3-1 and a 4-3-3. Both have 4 defenders, both have two wide forwards/wingers, both have a single centre forward, both have 3 midfielders. Theres very limited difference. Where the changes come in is in what the team does on and off the ball. Look at Liverpool, off the ball they play 4-5-1, on the ball its closer to 4-2-4, yet on paper its described as a 4-3-3 which is reflective of neither of these states. Formation numbers seems outdated to me.

As I said, the only difference is where Ozil plays and the implications on Mkhi. Ramsey will be CM in all formations, Laca central and Auba left. Thats the end of the players people are looking at.

From all the pre-season matches? They've played 3 games, and Ozil was only available for one of them. In that game, both Ozil and Mkhitaryan started.

(They also played 4-2-3-1, which means they had a player "in the hole" / in the #10 position, with 2 CMs behind him (as opposed to 1 CDM and 2 CMs who share the responsibility to push up (rather than sitting farther forward as a link-up player / second striker / lazy arse).)

Mkhitaryan also came onto the pitch at 63 mins against Atl. Madrid and, previous, at half time in the Mkhi-Mouse game againse Boreham Wood. What does any of this really tell us about their GW1 line-up given that Emery (and all managers) are trying things out and giving subsidiary players a run-about, and that it's probably not the same system he will use in GW1 (midfield 2 infront of a CDM).

Against PSG, Ozil and Mkhi were subbed off at 64' and 67 respectively. Does this tell us Ozil is nailed?

Wherever it comes from, I think the opinion that Ozil would be nailed at the expense of Mkhi in (apparently predicted by the simple number formations I've used even though they are also apparently useless) comes from beliefs about the players. Perhaps there is other evidence, but I don't see how pre-season has told us much about it.

Regarding Nelson, I have talked about lots of players in this post. Some are relevant before GW1. Some I'm arguing should be avoided for a couple of weeks at least. Some might come into contention in PL or FPL terms later in the season. Some others are irrelevant in PL and/or FPL terms. All this is interesting to me. I'm sorry it's not for you.

Only thing that bothers me in the 4-2-3-1 is you have laid out the formations as thought one of Torreia and Elneny is definitely nailed on to play.

Being an arsenal fan aswell, I wouldn't say that is the case... but i agree with that majority you have said.

I'd put Leno, Bellerin, Sokratis, Ramsay, Ozil, Auba as nailed on at the moment with Laca looking like he will be aswell.

You don't think Torreira is first choice?

I put Elneny as second choice for his spot because no-one else quite has the defensive-mindedness to cover him, especially in a 4-2-3-1 with only 2 CMs. I suppose Guendouzi or Chambers could slot in there ahead of Elneny, or Xhaka, M-N or even Mkhitaryan against weaker opposition.

I suppose in a midfield 3 you can afford to go without a proper CDM, and perhaps I've underestimated Guendouzi's sweeping ability. He could be like David Luiz in more ways than one by joining the middle of the CBs in transition to attack in the event that Torreira is unavailable.

Great analysis. For what it's worth I have heard several pundits on podcasts such as Totally football show and the Guardian one talking about the fact that, in their opinion, Emery much favours 4-2-3-1. He was pretty much forced to play 4-3-3 at PSG because of the players he had there and that Neymar was bascially running the club.

Cheers Adams. Looks like he might try a 4-3-3 next, looking at Cokey's link, though the Metro calls it 4-1-4-1, which I guess means 4-1-2-2-1, which I guess means 4-3-3. 😆

4-2-3-1 seems like the best way to ensure Xhaka is not in the team, so I like that one best.

I'd be interested on what people think about Burnley in the upcoming season. I'm unsure how they will cope with the demands of Europa League and premiership (assuming they progress) given they've currently made no new signings. Having said this is their a chance they'll be more 'in form' at the start of the premiership having already taken part in competitive matches?

I'm also wondering how losing their two keepers could affect the way they will play. My guess will be they will sit back more to protect their 'third choice' keeper, but the statistics don't seem to back this up from the switch to Pope last season, although I don't know if this is a fair / valid comparison. Does this dent the appeal of their forward players who have been popular in the rmts I've seen.

I tipped them for relegation last season and boy was I wrong!

With that key caveat, I'm avoiding them early doors because I feel their small squad will be compromised by Europe. I'm more than happy to be proved wrong and will hastily get in a GK and defender if they look like repeating last year's form.

Also, with Dyche's system the identity of the keeper and individual defenders doesn't really matter - they'll all do well.

Not interested in having him or anything but do we think Christensen will be starting XI at Chelsea?

I want to slim my defence a bit.
Which one should I replace with a 4-4.5 option?
    A) Mendy (6.0)
    B) Bellerin (5.5)
    C) Coleman (5.5)
    D) Tarkowski (5.0)

      D
      B
      C
      A

      In that order

I currently have both, but that probably doesn't help. I'd say Mendy to start with, he should play the first few

Any tweaks? Not sure in Bailly atm:

    Ederson
    Robertson - Cedric - Bellerin - Bailly
    Salah - Mane - Mahrez - Richarlison
    Auba - Arnie

    4.0 - Wan bassika - Kamara - Stephens

Fan of 343 at first so I’d downgrade Bailly/Bellerin and UG Kamara

      Looks good for 442 though

Anyone reckon KDB is back for GW1? He's got amazing fitness and if so, is straight in my side as he's nailed and class.

Same here. I'm waiting til last minute for updates. I will probably stick with Sane +0.5 in the bank to begin with tho.

Right so I think I’ve got it

    Pickford speroni
    AWB PVA Mendy Robertson lowton
    Salah Mahrez richarlison chalobah gunnarsson
    Wood Aguero firmino

0.0 itb stuck between mane and firmino, Mahrez and dilva and trying to find 0.5 to get sane instead.

Isn't Mahrez wearing a protective boot? Not sure he will be fit.

If you had £0.5m itb to put somewhere on this team - where would you put it?

    Ederson (Speroni)
    Robbo, Tomkins, Ward, Tark (W-B)
    Salah (C), Mané, Pedro (Stephens,Gunnarsson)
    Kun, Laca, Arnie

I previously had Auba instead of Laca with cheaper keepers and a weaker defence but this feels more balanced. Better to throw £0.5m at mid or def?

    Thanks

      The midfield

      Tark not worth 5.0 imo

        Where though?

        Pedro > Mkhi?
Gunnarsson > Cairney (and play 3-43)?

Upgrade Speroni to a first choice 4.5?

Dumb question but who/what does W-B refer to?

I don't expect Ederson to not play unless injured. I'd rather take the risk of that happening than lose £0.5m from the start of the season on having a playing backup keeper

Fair enough. Why not just keep it in the bank then to give some flexibility at the start of the season?

    Thoughts?

    Patricio Norris
    Azpi Robertson Bailly Bednarek AWB
    Salah Sanchez Jota Richarlison Guendouzi
    Firmino Arnie Tosun

Nice team, however I'd be worried about not having any City. Best team in the league and they play the six newly promoted sides from the past two seasons in the first seven, could hardly ask for better fixtures.

I'm bringing in a City DEF after GW1 for Azpi (probs bringing in Walker). They're MID and FW are frustrating because of rotation, don't know who, if any, are nailed on.
