Fantasy Premier League managers have been handed an early look at Chelsea and Manchester City ahead of the 2018/19 season – and we’ve already learned a few things from the Community Shield team-sheets.

Much to our excitment, the cheaper options of Pedro (£6.5m) and Callum Hudson-Odoi (£4.5m) were both selected in Chelsea’s starting line-up.

FPL defender Victor Moses (£6.0m) was named among the substitutes but could get involved in the attacking front-three in the second-half, and is worth watching.

As for Manchester City, more of their returning World Cup stars have been declared fit for the Community Sheild than was initially expected.

Fantasy managers should pay attention to how well they cope with the occasion as they are competing today without much preparation since coming back to training.

Riyad Mahrez (£9.0m), Leroy Sané (£9.5m) and Benjamin Mendy (£6.0m) are of particular note as they were all in the Manchester City training camp this summer.

Meanwhile, a start for Phil Foden (£5.0m), with Raheem Sterling (£11.0m) and Kevin De Bruyne (£10.0m) yet to return to club duties, could provide a value route into their midfield for the early part of the season.

For more detail on the areas to follow in today’s match, READ THIS ARTICLE.

CHELSEA XI (4-3-3): Caballero; Alonso, David Luiz, Rüdiger, Azpilicueta; Barkley, Jorginho, Fabregas; Pedro, Morata, Hudson-Odoi.

MANCHESTER CITY XI (4-2-3-1): Bravo; Mendy, Laporte, Stones, Walker; Fernandinho, Foden; Mahrez, Bernardo, Sane; Aguero.

haha, nice. maybe a bit much then, but still a viable option. Tomkins and Sakho together were tight in the back the last quarter of the season.

not necessarily. only issue is if A or B leads to a fourth player from that team.

Worth downgrading Mahrez to a 5.0 mid to do Tosun>Agüero?

    1. TAT
      • 8 Years

Would make a front three of Agüero - Aubameyang - King, and a midfield of 5.0 - Salah - Mané - Jota.

Downgrading one of my goalies would mean tw 4.0's… Could downgrade Mane, of course - but then there's the Liverpool fixtures…

Will need to do a few more drafts, I think!

      I'm going with
      Jota/Miki/Salah/Schurrle/Richarlison
      Aguero/Aube/4.5

I think there's value to be had in the 6/6.5 range in midfield. Not so much at 5.

      1. TAT
        • 8 Years

Yeah, the 4.5 benched forward is another alternative. Would mean only Salah as the premium mid, though.

The Agüero/Auba issue is the problem! Difficult to choose one of them. Would think Arsenal want to impress at home in GW1, while Agüero has the easier GW2 fixture…

What does essential mean to you?
Or is it just a word you like to use?
There is no essential player in fantasy football.
The whole game is fluid and played in flux.
Players come in, players go out.
Unless you plan on making no transfers all season, using phrases like 'essential' just make you sound silly particulary in pre-season!

No but I remember it. Pep implied he was a bit fat and in poor condition.

I'm guessing he might take a couple of weeks to get into match shape. I'm starting with Bilva and will look to who to upgrade to when his time seems to be spent. Could be Sane, who knows?

The only nailed City mid is KDB. City will keep a lot of clean sheets in their run they have and although I’ll only be choosing one of mendy/ederson, they will still rack up a lot of points. So I don’t think it’s such a bad thing

      So torn on this one...

Mendy, Aguero and a 4.5 goalie allows flexibility on the mids. It's a long season, full of twists and turns. Ederson may prevent hopping on...

Is it? If it backfires it's an easy switch to Ramsey or Mkhi in time for Arsenal's good run.

Right. With Sane being unfit i switched him for Bilva with a view to moving him on in 2 or 3 weeks.

What on earth is Sane playing at coming back too fat mind. Horrendous really considering he should have known world cup players would be late back.

Don't think Pep will be best pleased with that at all

I had Aguero in my team to include for the first couple of weeks with the idea of replacing him with Aubameyang from GW3 onwards.

Now I think that Aguero may need to stay in my side.

What if I already have gone full value in defence? Theres just too much money left to go for "value" in every position. You pretty much have to pick a big hitter that is lower value but high scoring.
