    Ederson & Mendy too much?

Alternative is Foster / Fab rotation and save 0.5.

It's not, their defence looks solid, but I would want 2 spots for their attackers, because it's much better

its not too much...those chosing two attackers run the risk of rotation in their attack

I think it will work. If they play consistently it might work out better than forwards who are rotated.

I am on these two but think i may need to put in a 4.5 GK with Ederson from the start if his wife is pregnant.

Gabbiadini is in my team for now tbh. Seems like a more active option to Austin, nay start in tandem or ahead of Austin in XI.

i have posted this a week ago - but now as we are so close to the start of the season, i thought about posting again:

    Salah mathematics

I am trying to figure out a mathematical way of checking [salah VS (mane + 3.5)].
so let's see if i'm getting somewhere:

Step A - predicting Salah points

Last season salah had 303 points in 2905 minutes. to predict what he will do this season, i took two assumptions:
1 - last year he had no significant injuries and pool had very weak bench. the bench has really improved (shaqiri the main man) and hard to assume another completely injury free year. let's reduce his minutes by just 10% = 2610 minutes - still a lot of minutes but more reasonable than last season.
2 - the 303 rate is the most in FPL history and over 0.104 points per minute - just insane. it takes an extreme leap of faith to believe he can keep this level. let's assume he is ALMOST at that level - and give him just a 10% reduction in output = which means 0.94 points per minute - still an unbelievable rate of production, that is matched at most by one player every year if at all - yet we assume he is capable.
3 - let's multiply 2610 minutes by 0.94 points per minute = 245 points. less than last season of course - but still a top 1 or top 2 output in the game for sure.

Step B - predicting Mane points

we will make this one shorter - i assume no change in output level of points per minute (0.67) because it's the third year in a row he is putting up a very similar output, and i assume 10% increase in minutes because injuries had him at only 2189 minutes - the 10% increase gives him 2407 minutes - still 200 minutes less than salah but he is subbed off a bit more so its reasonable.
    2407*0.67= 162 points

so, for now we are at salah 245 vs mane 162. that's 83 points gap. not 156 like last year, but still very respectable. now lets see what we can do with the 3.5 extra funds.

Step C - the average points a 7.0 or less players (average cost around 6.0-6.5) did last year - obviously i assume you all choose wisely, so i selected just the top ten 7.0 or below players last year - gros, mili, lingard, zaha, perez, muirray, etc.
The average of the top 10 - 128 points

Step D - the average of the top 10 heavy hitters - players with significant price - 8.5 and over (average around 9.5-10) - sterling, KDB, Ericksen, kane, kun, etc.
the average of the top 10 heavy hitters - 204 points.

well now, we did some math and reach a very interesting place:
Mane vs Salah should be 83 points difference
3.5 extra cash upgrade should be worth 76 points

    very very close.

this was not done to justify not having salah - and i am aware of course there is many other issues like captain choice, like hitting on the heavy hitter upgrade, like spreading the 3.5 cash on several smaller upgrades and more - too many variables to calculate.

All i was trying show is the situation is actually much closer it seems, and we should not brand non salah owners as automatic morons.

Good effort but why does everyone talk about points over season rather than few gameweeks? Surely we are not going to keep them for 38 gameweeks coupled with captaincy factor and things might look different.

This...there's no way I'm gonna captain Salah gw 4 to 8 when I have alternatives from arsenal and city in my team. It's almost like everyone has forgotten how quickly things change in this game week by week

That's the beauty of the numbers, even if they are so clear, one can still interpret it their own way 🙂
As Salah is one player you will pick him, and what you do with remaining 3.5 and how they score could also go horribly wrong since you are making a choice.
I get your point its an average top hitter that you are talking about, but it is still a choice that has to be made.
Hence Salah in team = more peaceful sleep for sure 🙂

good effort. your working shows that salah may be worth it.

also shows that you could make the difference providing you choose the 2/3 players scoring just as well - that’s going to take a few weeks to figure out

to me your working shows that it’s better to start with salah and then downgrade and spread the funds elsewhere as the season develops and the best players emerge.

for me there is far more risk and little reward potential for not starting with him. regardless of what happens over the season if he scores a brace vs. West Ham with his captaincy/ownership then BAM 30pts behind everyone.

I don’t think he will perform to his price tag, but i’m happy to downgrade later

I agree. Starting with Salah is the better option than not. Transfers are precious and going without Salah feels like your taking on unnecessary transfers early in the season.

Taking this point of view: Salah 300 points from 3 000 minutes last year.
Realistically he could slip to 250 points from similar minutes.
500 points as captain will be 20% of the seasons points total.
Kun could stay fitter than last year and get in 2 500 minutes which at his points rate is 212 points.
Aubamayang is scoring last year the same as Kun and will probably hit the 3 000 minutes mark. This will be 250 points. Good rotation between the pair should get you similar captain points; total say 300 points.
To have Salah at his price means you have to get a 9 mil player alongside him. Is it not possibly logical that having Salah who creates distortion in other areas might not be the way to go?
I posted this yesterday. Not as scientific as you but going down the same street. I got lambasted for it due to many ifs and buts.
In conclusion we come out more or less the same. I think it is resting on captaincy picks. what I did not mention for lat year is how it hurts if a 13 mil player is benched. I think 2 600 minutes is low but 8 games on the sidelines would negate the captain benefit.

I like this. Very thoughtful process.

And I commented a week ago, there is no reason to think Salah wont match his performance from.last year.
Its as likely that he improves. (If he improves his finishing - more baps and goals)

      I am going Jota.

Why? Because i bought Richarlison at exactly the time his points dried up last season. Bad memories.

Because Everton are a shambles at the moment.

Because every season I always have one punt on a newly promoted player. Jota, playing OOP, fits the bill nicely (although he is a bit on the pricey side).

By no means a compelling argument, I know, but that’s my 2 cents worth.

Thanks. I'm curently on Jota too. But it's only because of the hype around him in here. Have never seen him play. Richarlison is tempting me as he could potentially explode this season. And his fixtures are great.

Can't decide between 343 and 442. Welcome thoughts on these two teams:

    A) 343
    Ryan
    Robertson Mendy D.Luiz
    Salah Mane B.Silva Jota
    Aguero Zaha King

    Button; Tomkins, Wan-Bissaka, Hudson-Odoi

    B) 442
    Ryan
    Mendy Robertson BAVIES D.Luiz
    Salah Mane B.Silva Jota
    Aguero King

    Button; Tomkins, CAIRNEY, KAMARA

Zaha to outscore Bavies? Option B also strengthens the bench a little.

Bavies could be playing CB and has competition at LWB, won't be good value imo

      Very tough.

B is similar to mine and I've been debating a similar switch. It's Bavis vs Zaha so go with your gut.

In B you could downgrade Tompkins to a 4.0 giving you flexibility and KDB ready

True. A 442 is mighty tempting.

Mailtland Niles could be a good 4.5 option for the start (if we don't sign a LB)

Monreal's carrying a knock and Kolasinac injured, he's nailed for the first few to play LB and has a good cross on him

    Wilson in a 3-4-3 or Fraser + 0.5 in a 3-5-2?

Not sure about either of them being nailed but I like Bournemouth's attacking potential with those fixtures.

Wilson much more nailed and worth the extra money I think

Which is the best option, my other defenders are Mendy, VVD, Bailly & Lindelof

    A) Jota & Wan-Bassaka (4-4-2 with wan benched)

    B) Bellerin & Neves (5-3-2 with Neves benched)

A lot of hardcore FPL folks on Twitter advocate going big on defence as it's the area where premium players pay off more so than in attack.

    Can anyone advocate?
Always done the opposite and gone big in attack but mkght change my tune this year.

    Atm my team is
    Foster Fab
    Mendy Robertson Bailly Duffy WanB
    Salah Mane Jota Richarlison Cairney
    Aguero Arnau King

I've got him right now. He's been playing up front in preseason and scored goals against Barca and Roma (I think). I know preseason isn't much to go by but you need to go from something and Barca/Roma aren't shyte teams.
