Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m), the highest-scoring Fantasy Premier League defender of 2019/20, has been handed a small price rise ahead of the new campaign.

Many of us had feared a climb to £8.0m or above and, as a result, he’ll be one of the first names on the teamsheet for a lot of Fantasy managers.

Indeed, at the time of writing, he features in more than twice as many embryonic FPL squads as any other defender.

Having started last season at the same price as his teammate, Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) is now available for half a million less.

Virgil van Dijk (£6.5m) is cheaper still, while Joe Gomez (£5.5m) is the budget route into what became the first-choice back four in the Reds’ title-winning year.

Is Alexander-Arnold a no-brainer, then? Can Robertson compete with his fellow full-back? And is double Liverpool defence worth considering?

We run the rule over the reigning champions’ backline in this Members article.

I suppose to see what type of team you can get. If Liverpool have poor fixtures, you are still likely to start with Salah/TAA et al or would you not?

None of the options you presented were Doherty and Vinagre, so I made an assumption it was because you were reluctant to double up. My apologies if I was wrong. Shouldn't ever assume really...

It was probably because the podcast is still fresh in my mind, and Mark was expressing his reluctance with doubling up. Been trying to work it out since... 😆

            Apologies, I get you now.

No, I suppose it will come down to fixtures. If I think TAA, Robertson and Vinagre will do better than TAA, Doherty and Vinagre +1m or not.

TAA is a mainstay in my team after last season. I went without for so much of it and got punished.

An attempt at a team that takes into account city/United blanking

    McCarthy/4.0
    Trent/Doherty/Vinaigrette/Saliba/Taylor
    Salah/Auba/Son/Greenwood/4.5
    Jimi/Antonio/4.0

Bench Greenwood for the first game(s) and change auba/Son to KDB/Rashford after blanks. Retains WC for later.

Must admit that outside a very small number of players FFS seem to have done a very good job on prices this year! Loads of viable options

KDB, Trent, Firmino & Vinagre look the ones.

FPL Towers really hoping Wolves get a wing back in and United get Sancho.

Mitro and Adams seem like bargains for 1.5m each

I think Antonio and Wood are far better value.

Mitro and Adams have potential, but not yet convinced...

Yeah they both look good too - all fixture dependent of course

I think Wood and Mitrovic are the known quantities here. They've both proven what they can do over a whole PL season.

Antonio and Adams I'm not sure. Antonio looked great of course but there's a big caveat over the use of Haller. Adams will need to show some consistency.

Could be good, but prefer Wood myself.

It would be nice if Everton hurried up and bought Zaha.

At 7m he is a shoe in

Tbf, at the end of the 18/19 season he looked absolutely unplayable up front with Batshuayi. Looked a bargain when he came in as a 7.0m mid.

With Good players around him I reckon he becomes a genuinely great FPL option

Not to me. 7m is an appropriate price for him. Not a shoo-in for anything.

Now that Garcia seems to have had second thoughts about Barcelona, 5m for a City defender seems a must. He joins my Reds triple, and I'll go 4-3-3.

No, an assumption based on last night and Pep starting him now.

Why would Pep prioritize a young player whose commitment is now in question

I'm assuming he's convinced Pep he's had a change of heart after least night's debacle.

Unless there's news to the contrary, I'll keep him. Worse case scenario, Vinagre steps into the breach.

Rice might be a decent 4/5th mid at 5m, esp if joins Chelski.

    Werner/adams/Bamford

    Thanks guys

I think it's too much could easily shave off 1m somewhere and use that to upgrade a 4.5 defender to Gomez for instance
