Che Adams (£6.0m) could offer value in Fantasy Premier League in 2020/21 if the way he finished last season is anything to go by.

The forward found the net four times in his final eight appearances of 2019/20, an encouraging statistic for anyone hoping he will nail down a starting place at Southampton.

If Adams can deliver on the promise shown at the back end of the previous campaign, there could be a knock-on effect of Fantasy darling Danny Ings (£8.5m), which is the focus of this article.

The Saints looked to be a lost cause when Leicester City beat them 9-0 back in October, but a remarkable turnaround in form led to 13 wins from their final 28 matches. In fact, following the restart, only Manchester City and Manchester United collected more points, which resulted in a comfortable mid-table finish.

Manager Ralph Hasenhüttl has since been rewarded with a new contract, and there is evidence he’s starting to build a really good team that could challenge for a European place next season.

So, in this latest article, I’m going to have a closer look at two of their forwards. A comparison piece between the two would have been unthinkable back in December, and is possibly still a bit unfair on Ings who had a formidable season.

But with Adams finishing strongly and coming in at a significantly cheaper price, I’m going to have a look at both players individually, before zoning in on the last four Gameweeks of the season to compare the data. Yes, it’s a small sample size, but could it maybe give us an indication of what to expect going forward?

As this uses Opta data, only those with a valid Fantasy Football Scout subscription can access it in full.

Best 5.5 m midfield option from

    A Saint-Maximin
    B Podence
    C Armstrong
    D Saka
    E Klich

All potentially great. Interesting to see what others will put. I like Podence if he's nailed, as he's really a striker when he plays. And Klich cos he's on pens

Might be biased but I think A as the most potential to go big, but it depends on how we play.
Certainly if we buy an new PROVEN striker and play with a bit more flair then ASM will rack up loads of assists, as he is a quality player

Lose Son and AWB, rotate Dalas and Vinagre. Son>Bruno/kdb

Don’t like Richarlison at that price- would save 1.5 m and get Wood, Antonio or Mitrovic depending on fixtures. Also save .5 m on Button over McCarthy to save goalie headache each week. Use cash to improve bench and get Doherty over Vinagre

Robbo pretty much guaranteed to be close to 200. 200 is a massive ask of Greenwood, its possible he can but its not likely.
Short term tho ofc Green can outscore him, season long nah

Greenwood's value at mid can't be passed up. I like Laporte at 6.0 to Robertson at 7.0 not to mention Liverpool just signed a stud to decrease his minutes.

      1. have you seen cyan
        • 7 Years
        6 years, 11 days ago

I'm interested in Laporte as well and he is good value, certainly could give Robbo a run for his money and a mil cheaper.
Rotation with Ake concerns me tho, probably a headache I'd rather not have. Ake was probably bought in as cover for Laporte, both left footed.

        1. HitSquad
          • 6 Years
          6 years, 11 days ago

Ake is no threat. Don't let his price tag fool you. City have a boat load of Defenders on their bench with similar fees attached to their signatures. Laporte is the second-best CB in the Premier League. He won't be sitting.

          1. have you seen cyan
            • 7 Years
            6 years, 11 days ago

Well Laporte would be first choice, Ake is versatile and can play numerous positions (LB and even midfield). I expect City to sign another CB. I think they just took Ake because why not, versatile, Cherries want to sell and he is a decent player.
            No brainer really

You know what Peps like with rotation tho :/
I might get Laporte at some point, but not off the bat I dont think.

This is the wrong question on so many levels. No one intends to keep Greenwood for the whole season, so it's irrelevant if Robbo will outscore him. Plus you're comparing a defender with a mid.

    4. Bring back Rafa
      • 6 Years
      6 years, 11 days ago

If Sancho signs, Robbo will score more. If Sancho doesnt, it could be close.

But I'll back at least 5 $4.5m defenders to beat the best $4.5m midfielder so it's probably not that simplistic

Play, but be casual. It's much more enjoyable. Take punts based on whims, don't follow boring players or teams. I was very casual last season after I took a big gamble early on that cost me my minileague, it's refreshing. Make your team, but don't follow it eyes glued to the screen every week. It's more fun taking a -8 with 2 FT every now and then than it is preciously counting each free transfer.

Anyone interested in 5.0 Defenders (These are very outside the box but worth the argument)

Bellerin - Overlooked due to last few seasons, but Arsenal are getting more solid at the back and he can produce attacking returns
James - A lot of defenders at chelsea, but Lampard loves him and we all know he has the potential and could turn into FPL points.
Dier - New contract, one of the leaders at spurs and with Lloris back they may keep clean sheets more often
Saiss - YC threat but wolves are very solid in defence and provides some what attacking potienal

Problem is the 4.5's are so good and we may need as much cash as reasonably possible upfield early doors. Of those Dier maybe the most solid but for half less you can get attacking FB's and maybe even an attacking Wolves WB! Don't look gift horses in the mouth at the start, there's plenty of them too.

That's all true, but Saiss comes into the equation when you want double-Wolves at the back and can't afford Doherty. Saiss+Vinny for 9.5 is a good investment given the high high number of clean sheets anticipated by the Wolves.

Both Manchester clubs were knocked out of Europe last weekend, four weeks before the new campaign. It means, in theory, City could play on 15 September, with United in action the following night.

However, these dates clash with the EFL Cup second round, which Wolves are in after their failure to secure a top-six spot.

As SF alludes to above, they can play those sides who qualified for Europe, other than Spurs. I'm assuming the delay of two days to get the fixtures out was to tweak them to cater for this.

Tell you who absolutely no one is discussing: Joe Gomez.
He was injured for much of the early part of last season, coinciding (along with Alisson) with Liverpool's wobbly start.
He played under 200 mins which is why his final points tally wasn't spectacular.
He's 1.0m cheaper than VVD and 1.5m cheaper than Robbo.
At under 5% ownership, he's a massive differential.
After reading the article above I decided to convert Davis to Adams for 1.5 to give me a third striker, thus 'reducing' Robbo to Gomez, which means still having a very decent defender.

I'm not discussing it because he was quietly added as the first name in my team and I don't want people to own him 🙂

93 points last season with 1999 minutes.. only 7 bonus points? Was that decent enough at 5.5 mil?

In a vacuum I'd rather shu defenders, despite the expected regression or even tierney

Glad you asked the question as the replies have highlighted how good the 5.5m price point is... Gomez/AWB/Tierney/Aurier and SHU. Depends on fixtures but feels like you’d always have a good option there!

It was speculation in an Athletic article I think.

Arsenal have been playing with wingbacks recently and barring a tactical shift I can’t see then changing formation permanently.

It’s strange that Foden is everywhere but Saka isn’t. Both will get heavily rotated and are a bit too expensive to be seeing them on the bench or having cameos every other week.

Assuming the Manchester clubs blank in GW 1 are you going to..

    1. Include some UTD/City options in your squad in GW 1 and bring others in for GW2. (Greenwood/Foden for example as not expensive).
    2. Ignore them altogether in GW 1 and bring them in with FT's or hits from GW 2 onwards.
    3. WC in GW 2. If Chelsea are playing Wolves in GW 1 then this option becomes stronger maybe.

I think it's worth thinking about in case it happens.

        Leaning towards option 1.

Dont want to wildcard early and united and city will be in my thinking from gw 2 and dont want to take hits to get them in. That said I dont like foden. So it will be greenwood and probably a big hitter at the expense of gw 1 team. That means I will have 15 players from the start and put trust in 4.5 defenders who luckily are great value

Leeds finally bidding a real fee to Brighton for the services of Ben White. 25m + performance based bonuses. This will be their FINAL bid.
