Arsenal 1-2 Wolves

  • Goals: Gabriel (£5.1m) | Pedro Neto (£5.5m), Daniel Podence (£5.4m)
  • Assists: Willian (£7.6m) | Leander Dendoncker (£4.8m), Neto
  • Bonus points: Neto x3, Podence x2, Gabriel x1

GET WELL SOON RAÚL

Wolves 2-1 win over Arsenal was overshadowed by a sickening injury to Raúl Jiménez (£8.3m), who looks set for an extended period on the sidelines.

The Mexican forward sustained a heavy blow to the head from David Luiz (£5.5m) and required treatment on the pitch for 10 minutes before he was taken to hospital.

On Monday, the club’s official website revealed that Jiménez had fractured his skull and had undergone a successful operation overnight.

“He’s doing a scan now but he’s conscious, he’s OK. We are worried, of course. He speaks, he’s aware, but he’s doing a scan and now we have to have a proper assessment. He’s in good hands.” – Nuno Espirito Santo

“Raul is comfortable following an operation last night, which he underwent in a London hospital. He has since seen his partner Daniela and is now resting. He will remain under observation for a few days while he begins his recovery. The club would like to thank the medical staff at Arsenal, the NHS paramedics, hospital staff and surgeons who, through their skill and early response, were of such help.” – Wolves statement

During his two-and-a-half years at Wolves, Jiménez has fast become a Fantasy cult hero so it goes without saying that everyone at FFScout wishes him a speedy recovery and the best of health.

BACK OF THE NETO

It is to Wolves’ credit that they were able to focus themselves after witnessing such a serious injury befall one of their colleagues.

“We were massively worried when it happened, you knew straight away it was serious. We hope David Luiz is OK as well. It was a horrible clash of heads, this happens in football, but you don’t like to see it. You’ve got to [refocus]. We had 80 minutes left of the game, so you’ve got to. You go and play and hope you get the win for Raul. We had to do it for him, he’s a massive part of this football club, he’s a massive friend to every single one of us in that changing room.” – Conor Coady

Pedro Neto (£5.5m) was the chief of these as he involved himself in both of Wolves’ goals, his 13-point haul making him the club’s top-scoring FPL asset for the season.

In fact, it was also enough to propel the Portuguese international into the top 10 scorers among all midfielders and, crucially, he is also the cheapest among those.

Costing just £5.5m, Neto has offered 9.3 points per million spent in 2020/21, 1.9 more than similar-priced colleague Daniel Podence (£5.4m), who also netted his second goal of the season against Arsenal.

With Liverpool (away) and Chelsea (home) two of Wolves’ next three opponents, and Spurs (home) and Manchester United (away) waiting in Gameweeks 15 and 16, it is a little while until Wolves attackers will be on our radar again.

However, Nuno’s men face Brighton (away), Everton (home) and West Bromwich Albion (home) between Gameweeks 17 and 19, when their attack might become more viable.

At that point, we may have seen enough of Fabio Silva (£5.2m), who replaced Jiménez as the centre-forward on Sunday, to assess his credentials as a Fantasy asset.

PAIN IN THE ARSENAL

Ahead of Gameweek 11’s north London derby, owners of Tottenham assets will have been licking their lips at yet another dire Arsenal performance – although the data is not quite simple enough to warrant an all-out backing of Harry Kane (£10.9m) and Son Heung-min (£9.5m) for the captaincy.

The Gunners offered very little against Wolves and have now lost five of their first 10 league games of the campaign, three of those coming at home now.

Interestingly, Arsenal have fared slightly better away from home so far this season, although only defensively.

They have let in eight league goals across five matches at the Emirates Stadium in 2020/21 so far (1.6 per game) but, having played the same number on the road, Mikel Arteta’s men have given up just four goals (0.8 per game). Over the first 10 Gameweeks, only Spurs themselves and Aston Villa have been so solid away from home.

However, where Arteta has tried to tighten the ship at Arsenal, their attack continues to be nothing short of completely anaemic.

Accordingly, owners of Spurs’ defensive assets might be a little more encouraged considering Arsenal’s key man Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.6m) has just two goals this season and the Gunners themselves have found the net in just two matches since Gameweek 5.

“It’s something that the day I decided to be a coach I knew that one day I would be sacked or leave the football club but I don’t know when that’s going to happen. In this profession, I know it will happen but I never worry about it. My only concern is to get the best out of the players and give the best possible service to the club.” – Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal XI (4-2-3-1): Leno; Tierney, Gabriel, D Luiz (Holding 46′), Bellerín; Xhaka (Lacazette 80′), Ceballos; Saka, Willock, Willian (Nelson 65′); Aubameyang.

Wolves XI (4-2-3-1): Patrício; Marçal, Coady, Boly, Semedo; Moutinho, Dendoncker; Neto, Podence (Neves 70′), Traoré; Jiménez (F Silva 15′ | Kilman 78′).

The offside law has to be changed... It could be modified slightly by benefiting the attacker (best example is the Dutch Eredivisie system) After all football is a game of goals (remember, last season villa escaped relegation by a goal so every goal does make a difference)
VAR is just ruining the game, honestly.

Villa also survived due to VAR.

No. Offside rule must remain the same. The Bamford one against Palace was actually not offside & not due to the video technology, the video showed he wasn’t offside & without it who would have known?

But the PL refs, they are just the wrong set of people.

Mind you, all these errors mainly happen in the PL. The buli, serie A etc are implementing it well with little to no error but most of the PL refs are a disgrace football.

Yeah, I think it was Robbo that came out this week and said words to the effect of fair enough it wouldn't be perfect from the off but here we are 18 months later and it's no better.

I've all but stopped cheering for goals as they go in as you just know more often than not there will be a VAR decision and as you say especially with offside we're talking the bee's proverbial of margin.

Just bin it for mine and deal with the inevitable errors from the refs, wouldn't be much difference anyway as we are still all arguing about VAR decisions as we would about those same decisions were it not in place.

Those low scoring Che vs. Spurs and Eve vs. Leeds games really hurt my score from an attack standpoint this week. Only my second red arrow of the season though. Taking it on the chin.

I think I need to spread my team and diversify my assets.

How do your FPL teams spread across the league, just curious.

It was a low-scoring GW, assuming you were short of Baggies defenders and Toon attackers. I won my weekly cash league on the back of my midfield. I'm still waiting to play my second wildcard though.

Is Nick Pope still out? tempted on doing a double FT with

    Son / James > KDB / Jota

But Everton has a really good fixture against a team that lost 5-0 the game before with a shaky GK and to add Hames dropped value. Meanwhile ManCity is against an improved Fulham... What you do think about his move?

    Early thoughts on this lot?

    Martínez (Forster)
    Chilwell, Cancelo, Lamptey (Coufal) (Mitchell)
Grealish, Fernandes, Son, De Bruyne (Burke)
    Calvert-Lewin, Bamford, Vardy

    1 FT, 1.6 in bank

Defence is a bit meh and slowly losing patience with Martinez.
Hopefully Villa game gets played or else it's deadwood cleanout.

I’d look into maybe perhaps moving Cancelo on, largely depending on minutes. Im in the same boat. If he starts and plays substantial minutes (70+) it will be a worry, as good as the fixture is. I’m looking to Cancelo > James but if you dont own Dias he might be the best move. Martinez > Mendy is an option

Has the Newcastle situation been discussed? Possibly the whole team will be quarantined and the Villa game postponed. I have 3 Villains - 2 can be benched but I'd want to lose my goalkeeper. No transfers until Friday afternoon for me.

All players & staff at Newcastle are being tested today. If they don't have too many positives I guess the game will go ahead.

Could get complicated. Say 7 first-team regulars are positive and authorities force game to be played - the other 18 clubs will rightly insist it compromises the integrity of the competition.

Unfortunately I don't have much knowledge about that situation. But haven't the PL made it clear that U-23s will be used if senior players test positive?

            • 13 Years

It will probably come to that. But teams around Villa will argue they effectively get a free hit. That's what i mean by integrity. Works for me with my 3 Villains, mind!

I might add that the training ground's been closed - the U23s, U16s etc presumably use it too.
and even if there are enough players who test negative, what Bruce has pointed out is that they'll be under-prepared both tactically and physically - with no training players who play on Friday will be more susceptible to injuries. It's a tricky situation, is all I'm saying.

Training ground closed, complete quarantine of PL bubble, no physiotherapy available ... means increase risk of injury and health & safety issues

If there is an extended list of players & staff out then the PL will find it very difficult to force the game to be played

Games have been postponed in Scotland, Norway etc that I know of.

Makes sense. I probably wouldn't be able to fit him either. But it would be easier to try and fit him than Kane. Although, I think Kane outscores him till the end of the season. Whether he outscores, the other 3 remains to be seen.

Not so much Spurs and admittedly have no love lost for Kane but you can have Son who is matching him scoring wise for 1.4 less plus gets more for his goals as with the other two mids. Couple that with the value in fwds this year makes it an easy decision for mine.

          1. WE GO FOR IT
            • 10 Years

Yeah. I do agree that there is not much value in high priced strikers. Kane is probably the only premium striker worth considering this season. Kun is always injured and Vardy has been too reliant on pens this season.

But Kane with his assist and goal potential is just a little bit better pick than Son for the entire season. Son, either gets 10/11+ or 2/3. Kane can give you a steady 6/7 most weeks as he's likely to be involved in most goals Spurs score.

I don't think we can set & forget three out of those except maybe Salah.

I'll probably get Kane back when need by selling Bruno or KDB if they are underperforming. So for now I'd say Kane misses out because of tougher fixtures on paper till GW15.

      1. Andy_Social

He's asking about a season-keeper though - that's what I'm responding to and refer to Kane's injury record.

I obviously won't set and forget. I don't think you can do that with any player. But for middle to long term, say 7-8 GWs. I want to keep 3 big hitters which would rotate captaincy and 3 mid to cheap attackers which I can keep changing depending on the fixtures.

Makes sense on leaving Kane out, if you brought him late. I got him at 10.5 in GW 1. ARS, cry, liv, LEI aren't as tough as they look imo. Arsenal and Palace have been terrible off late. Liverpool are without so many first teamers. Leicester lost to Fulham and Kane loves to score against them.

If the big hitters keep performing, they will obviously stay. So, that's why I asked for a 'season-keeper'. But, otherwise, 7-8 to GWs minimum. I just don't want to keep changing premium assets every 2/3 weeks because fixtures get difficult.

        2. Karan_G14
          • 10 Years

If you got Kane at 10.5 it's a very tough sell. I got him at 10.9 so I sold him for Vardy last week and will sell Vardy next week to have Salah, Bruno & KDB till GW15 atleast.

One thing I don't like about Kane & Spurs is that Mourinho has gone to a defence first approach. They aren't going to get many double digit hauls like they were getting earlier in the season.

It's cause he faced Chelsea and City. I'd probably see how he plays against Arsenal and decide. But since I got him at 10.5, Spurs and Kane will have to play extremely poorly for me to drop him

I agree here. Sterling hasn't had the most amazing season. But, Citeh don't need him for Big Cup, and Pep'd peppisms during the week might suggest Sterling needs to buckle down a bit... If he plays Fulham and sparks, that'll be 5-6 on target easily, maybe a brace from that.

    Current defence

    Chilwell Cancelo Coufal Digne Bernardo

Only got 2 defenders out this week.
I want to change Digne to a second Chelsea defender.
James will save some cash over Zouma and probably has more attacking threat.

Ziyech to Mahrez for free as a week punt. Then Mahrez to Salah the next week for a hit. Or just Ziyech to Salah for free before Fulham.

Mahrez is more explosive. Ziyech will be a more steady, consistent but less explosive option as the season goes on, imo. Depends on what kind of player you want.
Mahrez has a lot of goals and a fair few assists in him. Ziyech, on the other hand has more assists in him than goals. But Ziyech is nailed and more likely to return each week. Mahrez is a rotation risk.
I'd go with Ziyech for that, as long as you have someone else from City.

I like Ziyech a lot. A silky player. A lot of assists in him. Yes, consistent. But someone has to go when I bring in Salah. My mids are:

        Son, KDB, Ziyech, Grealish

        Who will you drop?

Sold Kane before Chelsea. I like Ziyech a lot as a FPL option. But Son is practically playing as a forward most of the time aided by Kane. And I believe Spurs' tough fixtures are over after facing City and Chelsea. The rest they will face soon are not as good defensively. Spurs will score goals.
