Forget bragging rights and a small green arrow – you could be £10,000 richer at the end of Gameweek 3. And it won’t cost you a penny (or a free transfer)…

We’re talking about the free-to-play weekly Fantasy5 tournament, where there are various other prizes on offer beyond the whopping jackpot.

You can even set up a mini-league and compete with colleagues, friends and family.

It’s as simple as this: pick five players from the nominated Gameweek 3 matches below and, if they all exceed their ‘points targets’ (a par score set by Fantasy5 for each asset), you’ll be in the money.

We’ve selected our own picks for Gameweek 3 below, with FPL Family’s Sam following suit. As we’ll discuss, there are some generous points targets for some of the big Fantasy names this week.

But first, the essentials for newcomers.

TRY FANTASY5 HERE

HOW DOES FANTASY5 WORK?

Fantasy Five Banner

Fantasy5 is easy to play as it follows the exact same scoring system as FPL, just without the bonus points.

It’s also the fastest media outlet for live Fantasy points, displaying all player points from the five games in question, as well as the live score and time.

For the more detailed lowdown, head here.

The competition is limited to one entry per person per round and selections must be submitted before kick-off of the first eligible match.

If two or more entrants correctly select five players who all score more than their points target, then the prize pot is split among all winners.

GAMEWEEK 3 FIXTURES

The five matches in this round of fixtures are:

  • Brighton and Hove Albion v Everton
  • West Ham United v Crystal Palace
  • Liverpool v Chelsea
  • Tottenham Hotspur v Watford
  • Wolverhampton Wanderers v Manchester United

The deadline is at 15:00 GMT on Saturday, August 28.

SCOUT’S GAMEWEEK 3 PICKS

We alluded to some players with generous points targets at the top of this piece and Michail Antonio is among them: the West Ham United striker, who tops the division for ‘big chances’ in 2021/22 so far, needs just two attacking returns to beat his target score of 6.5. Given that he’s already got six goals and assists combined to his name, it’s surely within his reach.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Romelu Lukaku will likely face tougher defensive tests than the one that Crystal Palace will pose West Ham but chances galore are falling the way of the pair this season. Calvert-Lewin has had more goal attempts than any other forward bar Antonio, while Lukaku had eight of them in Sunday’s clash with Arsenal alone. Liverpool’s risky high line, which just about held against Burnley, looks ready-made for one of the best counter-attacking forwards in the world to exploit.

It’s two clean sheets from two for Spurs, who face a Watford side that looked limp on their first Premier League away day in two years last weekend. All of the Lilywhites’ defenders need an attacking return to best their points targets and who better to have a good stab at this than Sergio Reguilon, who will surely see more of the opposition area than he did in the previous two Gameweeks when Spurs came under heavy pressure.

Most defenders in the Fantasy5 game, indeed, need to do better than just keep a clean sheet. Luke Shaw is one of the best placed for that. He had the best minutes-per-key pass rate of any defender last season and he’s been back at it again in 2021/22, carving out four opportunities in the first two Gameweeks.

SAM’S GAMEWEEK 3 PICKS

Pick the best Gameweek 3 players for a free chance to win £10k with Fantasy5

This season’s Everton team is built upon supplying crosses to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and therefore he has real potential this week, especially as Brighton are susceptible from set pieces.

Dele Alli has never blanked at home to Watford in the Premier League, returning 27 FPL points in four games. Following on from his goal in Gameweek 2, he could be a great pick this week with both his goal threat and set-piece potential.

The Liverpool v Chelsea game is difficult to call, however if Liverpool do lose their clean sheet, Romelu Lukaku is likely to be part of that. He dominated the game on his return to Chelsea in Gameweek 2 against Arsenal and whilst Liverpool will be more solid defensively. he will make it very hard for that Reds backline.

Michail Antonio is playing a Palace side who have made a slow start to the season. In contrast, Antonio has come out of the traps and was the top points-scoring attacker in Gameweek 2 – a feat he could easily replicate this week.

Paul Pogba’s assist potential is excellent at the moment as he is playing in the right position to optimise his potential returns. Manchester United’s performance against Southampton in Gameweek 2 was disappointing and this is something that they will be looking to rectify on Sunday; Pogba will likely be part of the points it they do.

It seemed like you were, when you were lecturing that guy earlier. Even had the temerity to question why his parents, who had immigrated here, didn't support a club from that location.

There are myriad reasons any individual may choose to support any club, and all can be legitimate, and personal to that individual.

It's not the place of anyone else to say 'you should or shouldn't support this club for this or that reason'.

Truly narrow-minded to think that way, and arrogant to think that you can go round dictating to people the methodology by which they should choose which team to support.

That's my opinion on your opinion, at least.

            1. MJF
              5 years, 4 days ago

I'll be honest, I've always been one to wheel out "support your local team", but you are right that its nonsense. The world is globalised and football is no longer about local identity its about buying into the brand and culture of a particular club now, for a lot of younger people. There's precisely nothing wrong with that and people from one city (or another country) supporting a side from elsehwere harms absolutely no one. We should be about trying to make football more fun and inclusive, not less.

I think people want to be associated with winners for pub/social media chat....its appalling really. I lived in Norwich in the mid eighties and they were a fantastic team...but many of the locals followed Liverpool rather Norwich. I still don't get it to this day.

Excellent. After being an instant success at Inter, I think he really wants to make a point right from the start in the PL. A league that never gave him the respect he earned at Inter. I wonder if Jorginho has the guts to take the ball away from Lukaku when a penalty foul is made on him because he will step up to take it.

If he is classified as a fwd, I think it will be very interesting. It will be one premium mid (Salah, KDB, Bruno, maybe Son) plus one premium forward (Kane, Lukaku or Ronaldo).

The most interesting issue is not his exact price, it's that we could only have two of Salah, Bruno, Kane, Lukaku and Ronaldo at a time. It would rip the template up come GW4, and loads of people would be attempting the hokey-cokey, getting and captaining one of them each week, with frequently hilarious results.

Well the best of them will have shot up in value too.
i think people who try to shoe-horn one too many in will be relying unduly on those 4m defender punts, which will dry up soon enough.

Also, will he be listed as a forward or a midfielder?

would have to be a FWD as he's been an out and out forward for years now...most GW3 wildcards will have Kane/Lukaku in place so structure should be for accomdating Ronaldo or other potential signings

There are already enough players that are blatantly forwards listed as midfielders just to allow people to have 'better' teams. Surely they can't do that with Ronaldo.

because they're run by quite literally the dumbest billionaire around. Perez will then cry about how Madrid is going broke because of UEFA

    2. @persecuted_by_mods

Because free transfers are never free. I assume it would cost up to 50m to sign players like Mbappe or Haland on free. Agent fees, player bonus, family bonus, and other things added up. PSG also can end up winning CL this year which would put much more pressure on Mbappe to sign an extension. I don't think Madrid wan't to take a risk like that. It's also a long term project. Bale, Marcelo, Isco, Modric all leave next summer. Thats a lot of wages of their bill, which means they can focus on buying the right pieces around Mbappe and be competitive for atleast next half a decade.

What if PSG win the UCL this season and he decides to stay coz he wants to play with Neymar and Messi?
What if Liverpool/Man City come for him and offer him more wages than Real come January?
Lots of things are uncertain and Papa Perez can't afford to lose one of the future stars who is going to lead the team for the next decade. Hence the huge sums of money

I love it! I hate the club, the fans, the players and the history. Horrible club. Given that Barcelona is on the verge of bankruptcy, I can only hope that Real Madrid go the same way. It couldn't happen to a nicer club.

Was listening to Andy Brassell on the Football Ramble podcast and he said its basically all about posturing.

Real Madrid want to show Mbappe how much they want him, and to show the Madrid fans they are still this serious powerhouse. They know no matter what they offer PSG won't accept, so they may as well offer a gazillion pounds.

PSG want to show Mbappe how much they value him and are hoping that a season playing with Neymar and Messi will convince him to sign a new contract. Also they are trying to show their fans they are a serious champions league team who don't sell to competition.

    Can't decide of two options:
This is the team at the moment
    Sanchez (Foster)
    Shaw Tsimikas TAA Ayling White
    Salah Bruno Raphinha Benrahma
    Ings Antonio (Perica)

    I can either A:
Swap out Tsimikas and get in Reguillon for free and have 1.5 itb
    Or B:
Swap out Smith Rowe and Perica for Gilmour (Nor) and DCL for a hit.

The first one will lock me in for a 352 or 442 at least untill gameweek 7.

I agree that it's good for that, but I do see some value and attraction to Ronaldo for going to City.

He gets to return to a country and city he became a world class player in. He gets to work with top talent to assist him in his endeavor to become the most legendary goalscorer of all time. He gets to work with Pep Guardiola who is a legendary coach in his own right.

Those are not bad perks and City can provide a competitive wage.

Agreed but I just feel City needs it more. No player can come close to Ronaldo and Messi when it comes popularity and now City have a chance as Ronaldo doesn't want to play for Juventus.

            Well said!!

If you are a football, no matter what your allegiance, then Ronaldo at city will be great entertainment, especially when they get beaten at home by Brentford lol.

    2FT.

    Sanchez
    Trent • Shaw • Tsimi
    Salah • Bruno • Mahrez • Barnes • Benrahma
    Ings • Antonio
    (Steele / Livramento / Hoever / Obafemi)

Thinking Mahrez to Raph. Roll other FT and use 2.5 in following weeks to upgrade Tsimi, Barnes, etc

Are people really selling Salah/Bruno for Lukaku? Did everyone forget what happened in GW1.

I guess Ronaldo won't be happy sitting on the bench.

Cr7 won't be affected by Pep Roulette. Ig he joins, he starts every game unless he's injured
