I'm also on a Salah draft. I have Flekken, Stones, Webster, Mitoma and Jesus instead of Pickford, Shaw, Aké, Eze and Nkunku (and a different bench)

The most minimal change I'd make would be to have two 4.5s (preference is two of Webster, Colwill and Henry) instead of Aké and Kaboré

I've got a similar roster, and am debating whether it makes more sense to have Chilwell as my first off the bench, instead of Jackson. The reasoning: more roster flexibility, in circumstances of a defender being out or having a tough match.

Thoughts on a Gabriel, Tarkowski and Botman back 3?
All three were in the top 5 defenders for XG last season and will no doubt all get 12+ clean sheets this year.

Saw someone earlier saying they'd be captaining Haaland every week other than in double gameweeks. I wonder how many will take this approach.

Would be really interested if there are any stats on what the average total captaincy score was last season; what the average in the top 10k was, etc. And how that compares to someone who captained Haaland every week.

I'm tempted to do this tbh, I do tend to overthink captaincy and try to get clever. Great when it works, but often it doesn't. We got some stats in our mini league last season, and the person who won it had the *least* differential captaincy choices in the league. (He finished c.10k in the world.) That one very small example does suggest playing it safe with captains is the way to go.

A lot of people are intending to do that. Circumstances might cause them to change their mind, but at least for their initial squad, if that's the plan there is little point in having a second premium.

      1. Jönny
        • 16 Years

Well, that depends how much you think e.g. Salah will outscore one of the 8.5ers for example.

And perhaps more relevantly this year, what you can you do with thr spare cash. Attacking prices are so kind and you will always need to bench one, I'm not finding things look that much better without Salah!

I think my question really was about how much is to be gained by trying to second guess the best captain any week, vs just setting it on Haaland and leaving it.

F4L's point about the fun element is the thing though: I can't see myself sitting on my hands all season. (Unless it works incredibly well and I'm top 10 at Christmas!)

Quite like that 4x ARS combo, especially since Foden is probably your highest risk starter. Who would you sell first though - Gabriel? Maybe the only downside is this ties you into a defender transfer being your first move?

Won't go through anyway. Unless Arsenal are selling Ramsdale. The fee proposed by Brentford is too much for a back up keeper.

But then you'd have £30m Ramsdale as back up. Just seems way over the top for me. It's very easy to pick up either a young or old quality back up keeper - usually for free.

Ramsdale himself was a expensive back up to Leno who then replaced him with Leno being sold, Ramsdale was sloppy at times & Arteta wanted Raya before, if the signing goes through & Ramsdale don’t like it, he’ll probably be moved on like Leno was.

Arsenal are clearly building a competitive squad where no one is safe & the players who don’t like it will get moved on.

Yep agree, that's why I said unless they're selling Ramsdale. Anecdotally, Spanish managers do tend to bring in Spanish players so there may be some truth in it.

The goalkeeping coach is Raya’s mentor & he’s got quite a lot of influence there, this will happen then who knows how it plays out, I do know that the squad wasn’t deep enough to compete on 4 fronts last year & now it is, there will be plenty of games for everyone, that’s no good for fantasy though.

Harry Kane is too decent a bloke, he really needed to go on strike and not show up for pre-season to force his way out. Levy knows that if he stays he'll play and give them 25+ goals and spurs have no realistic way of replacing him

Klopp seems to be going for the 4-3-3 or 3-2-2-3 with fullback inversion like the cool kids. Those left and right attacking midfield spots are best suited for these two, with Elliott, Bajčetić and the ever injured Thiago to challenge, and an occassional switch of the system to accomodate more attackers.

In the game against Bayern today, you could see the system was only abolished for 15 minutes, when there were two occupational strikers (Gakpo, Nunez) and two wingers (Diaz, Salah) on, soon turning back to the original plan with the Jota - Elliott substitution.

        It's about player types.

Sorry Gakpo went off for Elliott, which was the change that made them return to the 4-3-3 with everyone in their own position.

Their defence looked so open, not sure 8m for Trent without the CS makes much sense, in his pomp there were CS machines, now you’re relying mainly on attacking returns.

haven't looked at the stats (from World Cup), but with increased gametime in matches now surely there will be less CS

That being said you raise a good point. Potentially less CS.

For dissent? It's possible. It does tend to be certain players.

Would have been a big off putting factor for Bruno Fernandes, but given he is now the captain he might get away with it still.

Interesting factor to consider because Yellow Cards can have a brutal impact on bonus points too. YC may seem like -1 on paper but are often a -3 or so.

I guess using back of fag packet maths l that matches will be about 8 minutes longer on average, so over a season that's about 300 minutes, so probably 4 or 5 more goals conceded, not all of which will be CS busters?

      1. TheTinman
        • 10 Years
        2 years, 7 months ago

Nah, statistically injury time in the 2nd half is most likely period of time to have a goal. Your fag packet maths ain't going to cut it this time 😀

And there is a likelihood those goals will be CS busters as the team ahead / holding for 0-0 tend to sit back and the attacking team gets more aggressive / risky.

Cheers. So if I am reading it right, in the most recent sample (2nd link), 372 goals scored in the season in minutes "81-90+" - if this period is extending from 15 to 20 minutes (i.e 5 minutes to 10 minute injury time) that's a 33% increase, so approx 124 extra goals? Split across 20 teams - about 6 each? Round it up to 7/8 to take into account 1st half injury time too (where I suspect impact will be a bit less) - How many of these will be CS busters is still unknown?

Gakpo doesn't make sense...he has played less than Darwin preseason, scored less, and is a rotation risk. If anything Darwin is better or Nkunku or Jesus

yes, with Mahrez gone I'm surprised by how little Grealish is talked about. Foden/Grealish double up could be nice for first 4 GWs at least before CL. If KDB is still struggling I don't see how the Foden and Grealish don't average 80 mins+ per game for the time being

I thin kit's just people looking at Martinelli, Saka, Bruno for slightly more

    Thoughts on this?

    Currently have 2 mil ITB

    Pickford
    Gabriel Estupinan Stones
    Saka Martinelli Son Foden
    Haaland Ferguson Nkunku

    4.0 - Guehi Pinnock Nakamba

A bit worried about Martinelli and Ferguson regarding mins but if they do get the minutes I can see them going well in the first 3. Very happy with back 7

I think Joao Pedro and Welbeck are much more likely to get minutes and impact Evan compared to March / Mitoma though ..... and home to Luton you'd expect those 2 to start, whereas no idea if Welbeck or Evan would start, Joao Pedro could be #10 too ?

          1. Coys96
            • 8 Years
            2 years, 7 months ago

I think Evan is ahead of Welbeck in the pecking order and JP has being playing as a #10 in pre season so pretty confident he’ll start against Luton (which is the main reason I’ve got him - think he’s got the highest point ceiling of anyone in GW1 if he does)

A lot depends on how they line up on Sunday in their final friendly.

      1. Coys96
        • 8 Years

Watkins is firmly on my watchlist. That’s the main reason I have 2 million in the bank (for Ferguson to him).

I shouldn't think so particularly when City's most expensive defender is 5.5 any way.

You'd like to think so; don't know if he's had much of a pre-season, but if you spend that amount of money on a player of his quality, I don't think he'll be a benchwarmer!
