Having both Kane and Haaland will cripple the squad 🙁

        It works.

Plenty of viable squads been posted for weeks with both Salah and Haaland.

For those thinking that way it's a simple pivot between Salah and Kane and your 8th attacker.

There's even reasonable 11s with all 3 but bare bones on the bench.

Yeah. But Turner almost certainly won't be the only keeper signed though. Kasper Schmeichel been rumoured as well.

Definitely don't want Chilwell to start with, Chelsea have been crap in the league for a while and he's super injury prone, not to mention no chance of clean sheets in first 2 games. Stones has always been a poor pick FPL wise and looked so in the game yesterday.

Can't seem to decide on the 6.5m mids but I like a team that has a wide number of teams included. This has 9 teams in the starting 11:

    Onana
    Chilwell / Estu / Gabriel
    Salah / Diaby / Saka / Eze / Rashford
    Haaland (c) / Wissa

Main decision is Mitoma vs Diaby vs Eze for the 2 spots.
    Thoughts?

Definitely Eze. Must be a question mark over Diaby as has never played PL, but Mitoma is a bit of a dull pick so may be worth it.

Template Salah team. I would basically have the same team if I went with Salah, so nothing wrong with it. Maybe Mitoma and then one of Eze and Diaby, but that's only my preference.

      1. Olof Mellberg
        • 3 Years

Yeah what's funny is I've had this team for about 4 weeks now haha I've never gone without Salah.

Yeah I think nearer to the deadline I'll get jittery and go Mitoma and Eze based on experience. But with the Non-Salah template going Watkins, having Diaby helps when Villa haul since he'll be heavily involved.

    4. Tomerick
      • 11 Years

I was on this exact team until today but I’ve made some tweaks:

      Onana > Johnstone
      Estupinan > Pau
      Diaby > Nakamaba (benched)
      Wissa > Watkins
      Mubama (benched) > Pedro

      What do you think?

In answer to the Diaby/Eze/Mitoma. I think the first two. Particularly without Watkins you want Diaby.

      1. Olof Mellberg
        • 3 Years

I guess it depends how long term you're planning your team. I'm setting mine up for 8 gameweeks (ish) without hopefully needing to rip it up. I also never book in transfers.

My issue with the Goalkeeper change is that I think Utd are going to be solid defensively. Mount/bruno Casemiro really protect Varane/Martinez and they have way more possession now. Johnstone's fixtures aren't that good, I'd prefer Pickford as a 4.5m purely for saves. Especially with the minutes changes.

Pau isn't guaranteed minutes. The back line of Villa is changing a lot under Emery. Cash/Mings/Konsa/Pau/Digne and eventually Moreno will be a head ache. Most nailed is Mings probably at the moment. But I agree, Estupinan is the weakest of my defenders and I could just go for 2 x 4.5m rotating defenders instead.

I like Wissa as he's leading Brentford's attack and their fixtures are great and he hasn't got much competition.

Pedro is a good shout, but I just hate starting the season with any question marks over minutes, and to see him go off all the time or potentially not start with so many Brighton attackers...

Yeah similar thoughts to me tbh. I think the original way is better. My main reason for the other version is that it makes it a bit easier to get to Nkunku later but like you say, that might not pan out the way I expect !

Well, I don't really have a clue what I'm doing right now. I have Havertz and Trossard so we'll just have to wait and see how I feel on deadline day 😀

Nketiah probably isn't worth the punt imo. He might start, but it's only short-term anyway. At least Trossard will be challenging strongly for mins even when Jesus is back, and he knows how to score as much as Nketiah does.

I've gone Saliba, Timber to Gabriel in the evolution of my thoughts.

Timber gets forward on the left but is he nailed when a Zinc returns. I think he might be.

Saliba great but him and Timber stay back at corners i think, Gabriel is up in the box.

      Anyone able to confirm that?

Hence back to Gabriel as the pick.

Yer that’s where my thoughts have been (apart from the subtlety of Saliba back/Gabriel up). I think Timber did very well yesterday; enough to suggest he’ll be first pick even with Zinc back. But obvs just one game’s evidence.

Pretty much. You'd need to fill the rest of the team with 6 x 5.0 and 5 x 4.5 or similar.

Which one is the definition of too much overthinking, to the detriment of your initial squad:

    1. Bench an injured Nkunku for a few weeks, rather than just playing the cheaper Jackson in the meantime?

    2. Pick Gusto in advance for when James misses out?

    3. Select Chilwell for your gw1 bench and miss the Liverpool assists?

    4. Bring Raya in right away to save a transfer, relying on a 2nd choice goalkeeper till Fulham at home?

    5. Keep Simms on the bench in a 3-5-2 to nab 0.2m savings into the 8th attacker in the future when you wildcard or have a spare transfer?

    6. Worry excessively about optimal minutes for Pedro when he's going to smash the place wide open?

    7. All of the above.

      1. Get Jackson
      2. Avoid Gusto
      3. Start Chilwell
      4. Avoid Raya
      5. Keep Simms or get Mubama
      6. Get Pedro if he fits your structure

Neither Gvardiol or Hojlund worth it for me the first 5 gameweeks. One is not fit, the other needs some weeks to find his place in the Pep Roulette.

Agree - but at 7m Hojlund could become an unbelievable asset to have.

Stones v Chilwell appearing a lot. Why not both plus Arsenal?

I'm currently on Stones Chilwell Gabriel and 2x4m but not 100% settled with that much of a crappy bench

Yer, same. My bench is a concern. I do like those three picks.

Stones always has been and looked a shocking pick FPL wise yesterday

I usually do pick my defenders for attacking potential first. But I really want a way into MCI’s defence for those first few games and the most secure seems to be Stones at this early stage of the season. I don’t want Ederson.

First 3 are away, Newcastle, away so not the best for clean sheets, I'm going to wait then bring in Gvadiol once he's nailed at 5m

How risky is Jota? Had a good pre-season but obviously there is some element of rotation risk.. but high ceiling with good early fixtures. Don't want to ruin the rest of my team by trying to fit Salah in

Don't worry about trying to cover Salah just get the players who you think will score the most points

    On version god knows what!
    Pickford
    Stones / Gabriel / Estupinan
    Saka / Salah / Maddison / Mitoma / Eze
    Haaland / Watkins

    Turner / Baldock / Andersen / Archer
    0ITB

I'm reasonable ok with it, just would prefer to have a bit of cash in the bank.

I really like it. Only minor quibble is Maddison? Watkins - I’ve no idea how he’s gonna go this season.

Maddison I'm not sure about, had 7.5m left and though about a Foden or Grealish punt.
Did have Jesus before his injury so Watkins or another striker is a short term pick.

I’ve got £1m in the bank and yet I think this doesn’t look terrible...

    Pickford (Areola)
    Stones, Chilwill, Arsenal (fodder)
    Rashford, KDB, Eze, Martinelli, Saka
    Haaland, Pedro (fodder)

Could use the extra cash to have a more secure bench. Thoughts?

Looks good. Have something very similar, except I have Salah over kdb, with a few minor compromises

    Kane vs. Salah?

For me Kane wins because there are so many options in midfield but not so many up front.

    Thoughts?

Yup. Kane also gets baps. Usually 3 when he scores. Salah almost never.
