Yeah I’d go for Eze over Mitoma. Other option I’m thinking about is Douglas Luiz for 5.5. He has 3 assists in pre season, is nailed, on corners and free kicks, and did well last season too (6 goals and 7 assists). Would give you 1 million to upgrade elsewhere. Could bring in chilwell for udogie for example / upgrade your bench / have another 5.5 like enciso to rotate with Luiz perhaps

I’d say you’d want to spend some of that (maybe 0.5m) only on a 4th defender as you have a couple of rotation risks. Also Johnstones fixtures aren’t great, why not upgrade or have a rotational GK

Lots of chat about two (or even three) Arsenal attackers. I’ve got Mart and Saka.

It’s a good set of early fixtures but are they gonna be scoring enough to warrant the double/triple up?

Yer they did very well. Good data that.

My reticence to double or triple is you need Arsenal to have a similar season. Could v well happen. Or you could end up with some very yokey baskets given all the competitive mid options. Pivoting would be easy enough, I suppose. But transfers be precious.

Two weeks ago, 6.5M mids were the gems of the game. Now options seem to dwindle and I start looking at 4.5M and 5.0M options instead. Especially as Joao Pedro becomes a nice 3rd Fwd options alongside Haaland and Watkins.

    Mbeumo: injured
Mitoma: fixtures bad after 3 gws, rotation risk and poor output lately
Eze: I like but cpfc are losing Olise and Zaha
Diaby: I like but I have Watkins so can wait to see if he hits the ground running
    Almiron: tough fixtures

So I looked at the 4.5-5.0 bend fodding options and would love to get the view of the community:
-Ouattara (5 - BOU): in form, seems locked, passes the eye test, scored a lot for Lorient before the transfer window
-Brooks (5 - BOU): scored a bunch in pre season, may have dead balls, injury risk?
-Kluivert (5 - BOU): good pedigree at Nice and Roma, can score and assist but rotation risk
-Matheus Nunes (5.0 - WOL): assist machine and good pedigree before his transfer. Surely Wolves cant be trusted?
-Anderson (4.5 - NEW): for the bench and only the bench. Some upside that he explodes like Delle Alli did on his first season. Releases 0.5M

Any viable option here? Am I missing anyone?

    Thanks!

Mbeumo will prolly be fit in time.
Barnes better than Miggy but wait 'til fixtures ease.
Mudryk could be a dark horse.
Buendia and Andreas worth a thought.
Garnacho could return off the bench
BOU have awful opening fixtures so have time to assess

My personal favourite from the 4.5-5.0 bracket is Keane Lewis-Potter at Brentford.

Has played left wing for them in the majority of preseason games & seems to be first choice there, loved how direct he was in the game against Brighton, always looked to cut in and shoot. Maybe slightly riskier than a few others, but looks to have the highest ceiling.

A lot of talk around the Chelsea players so thought I'd give my view as a matchgoing fan on their appeal to me personally.

Kepa - Will start the season as first choice, but very much expect Sanchez to become number 1 at some point - Avoid
Sanchez - Won't start the season but for those with Pickford/Johnstone he could become a great option after 5/6 weeks if he starts playing - Avoid but keep an eye on

James - The most nailed on player in the team, will likely be slightly more defensive than Chilwell, though he will take FK's. If Caicedo deal doesn't happen, he could play holding midfield at times. Could take pens until Nkunku is back - Good option but prefer Chilwell.
Gusto - He looks to be absolute class. Will be a must-have when James inevitably gets injured. If Caicedo doesn't happen, he may get more minutes if James moves into midfield. - Avoid but buy instantly when James breaks down
Thiago/Disasi - Both 5m and will share minutes, both less nailed than full backs & Colwill initially. - Avoid
Colwill - Until Badiashile is back in early September, Colwill is nailed on - more so than anyone in the squad bar Enzo & James. Great value. - Great if you don't have James/Chilwell.
Chilwell - Has been flying forward pre season. Will be far more advanced than James and likely take corners on both sides - In my team & probably the best Chelsea asset.

Enzo - Could take pens for the first few weeks & if we sign Caicedo he will be more advanced. Should have scored 2/3 in pre season & could turn out to be decent value as an enabler, but wastes a Chelsea spot.
Gallagher - I think he might play as a number 10 for the first 3/4 weeks until Nkunku is back. Gametime will be very limited should Caicedo join when Nkunku plays - Avoid but could be a differential later in the year.
Sterling - Absolute waste of space in pre-season, don't think he is first choice, might play against West Ham if Nkunku isn't fit but would be shocked if he plays against Liverpool - Avoid.
Mudryk - He clearly has tons of ability & has looked sharp in pre season. I'd expect him to be first choice on the left side, and most the attacks have come down that side. If he looks bright in the first 2 weeks, he could be an option for the nice 3/4 games. - One to watch
Maatsen - Not seen him mentioned here at all, and am gutted he is a midfielder and not a defender on the game. Poch seems to really rate him, about to sign a new contract which suggests he's in Poch's plans. He's 5.5m and is looking like being first choice on the right wing - major major differential, but he could easily turn into an early bandwagon - am definitely monitoring for Gw3/4.
Chukwemeka - Seen him as a 4.5 option in a few teams. He will get 1 point every week because he's quite versatile so will be off the bench regularly - but think there's a few ahead of him in every position.

Nkunku - A proper poacher & can play anywhere in the front 4 positions so is guaranteed game time. Clearly avoid at the start but if he's back for Luton/Forest he could score big points. Guaranteed penalty taker also - Great value when he's back.
Jackson - I'm starting the season with Jackson - he has really impressed in pre season, he looks strong, quick & worked incredibly hard. He's contributed G/A so far & he's an easy placeholder for Nkunku. I think he'll be a regular starter even when Nkunku returns, but would prefer Nkunku of the 2.

FWIW - Kepa, James, Silva, Colwill, Chilwell, Andrey Santos, Enzo, Gallagher, Mudryk, Maatsen, Jackson is who I expect to start against Liverpool.

    1. Andy_Social
      • 13 Years

All sounds good. I'm starting with Jackson plus 0.5 itb for Nkunku. Also Chilwell (who according to your description should be nailed even though you don't say so) and Colwill.

      1. Sterling Effort
        • 2 Years
        2 years, 7 months ago

Yes, I think Chilwell is nailed too. Less so than Colwill, James & Enzo but probably next after that.

Only less so because we still have Cucurella & Maatsen can play there - but he's my pick of the defenders.

Still contemplating moving out Salah to him but I'm not sure on it. Maddison looked great yesterday so may just go with him, but Jota and Kane is possible too. Kane has been lethal in recent years and is now under an attacking manager and with no Europe to contend with so it has to be considered

What’s the general consensus on Odegaard?

I was initially put off by him as think he could play deeper with Havertz in but Xhaka did pretty well in terms of G/A last season in that role and Odegaard is about the only nailed Arsenal mid (bar Saka)

I don't own Ode atm but never understood that argument of him playing deeper this season. They signed Rice for a reason and they need Ode to find the openings in attack. Where he is one of the best in the world.

    2. Mitoma + Maddison?

Hey COYS96, what do you make of Udogie? Looks good to me and scores 3-5 goals a season.

In Draft, would you take Hojlund over Joao Pedro or Alvarez?

No. Will be eased in surely. Also coming from Italy he could take some time to take the level of the PL.

If only Gvardiol had been brought in a month earlier, it'd afford me Bowen as my fifth mid. But it is what it is. Thoughts on this lot?

    Areola
    Shaw - Stones - Gabriel - Estupinan
    Salah - Saka - Bruno - Maddi - Mitoma
    Haaland

    Pickford, Baldock, Mubama, Ui-jo
