All these players, ex players and PFA complaining about the added time in games, stop complaining and start playing the game rather than wasting time when you're playing and the game won't last so bloody long, you caused this in the first place, get over it!!

Take Varane for example - if United are playing a promoted team who keep time-wasting, he still has to play those extra minutes. What can he do about that?

He should just program himself to endure the extra 20ish mins, duh... they are robots after all not human. Just play the game!

He would probably want those extra minutes so they can try and equalise or score a winning goal?

Doesn’t change the fact they’d be on the pitch for 10-15 mins longer, which was his whole point.

The added time is to compensate for periods of inactivity, so the players won't be more fatigued or anything.
As an aside, it makes cheap players less likely to start games more viable - the likes of Trossard or Garnacho will have more time to come on and haul.

Players don’t stand completely still while keepers take forever on goal kicks, etc though. The times are inflated anyway - hardly any time-wasting on Sunday and we had 8 mins added on.

So when teams learn that time wasting won't work, the ball in pay will get better and not so much time added on, that's the whole point, surely...

    Flekken | Johnstone

    Shaw | Estu | Stones | Gabriel | Baldock

    Planned transfers/possible changes:

Both very strong, atm I’d prefer to have a 6.5 mid over an 8 forward as it’s a much stronger pool to choose from (plus Villa’s first two fixtures aren’t great).

Why everyone suddenly want Stones over Shaw? Looking at last seasons data:

    Shaw 1G 4A 12CS 20BP
    Stones 2G 2A 7CS 13BP

    Shaw 3.99 xGI
    Stones 2.0 xGI

Not to mention Man City now have 27 world class CBs at the club. Rotation is not a probability, it's guaranteed.

Yep I said a few weeks back that all of these Haaland only drafts would end up with Salah in them.

It's the same every season. The fear of being on the end of a 20pt Salah haul is still present.

Even if it is logically more sensible to not have Salah if you captain Haaland in 90% of games.

    Thoughts on this gamble team?

    Leno/Ortega
    Chilwell Estu Gabriel 4.0 4.0
    KDB Saka Jota Trossard Mbeumo
    Haaland Watkins Pedro

I know he's coming off an injury, but wanted to target City fixtures and he's the one (+Foden, but less sure of mins) that carries that team.

Jota a rotation risk but he's had a great pre-season and there's a chance he'll start in the middle with Mac Allister as the 6 and Gakpo as the 8. Even if he doesn't start, he could still grab points against tired defenders with the new time wasting rule.

Trossard also a rotation risk, but he can play LW, 9 or 8. I reckon Arteta only started Havertz in Community Shield vs a tough opponent as he is good at pressing. Against a weaker team he could go either Trossard or Nketiah as the 9. Even if he doesn't start as the 9, he can come on as LW or left 8 and get points with the same reasoning as Jota.

Because of these punts, I tried to make everyone else as nailed as possible, except Pedro as it wasn't possible with 5.5 remaining in the bank. Could go for Wissa if I can free 0.5 from somewhere (maybe in defence) who seems more nailed.

If it doesn't work out I can make a few sideways moves to hopefully fix the team early. I feel this is a fun team, but kinda punty. Thoughts?

    1. TheTinman
      • 10 Years
      3 years, 2 days ago

I just can't see KDB playing that many minutes in these early 'less important' fixtures. He had injury problems for the last couple of seasons, City are blessed in the sense they can really ease him back in over a decent time frame.

If he was a £7-8m gamble then yeah, but £10.5m seems a bit too much.

          Gabriel, Estupiñán, Botman/Cash rotation (Baldock)
          Salah, Rashford, Saka, Martinelli, Eze

Interesting. This is my team except I've gone for Watkins over Martinelli. Prefer the structure of three forwards to begin with, especially as we aren't 100% sure about Pedro. I do like your team though, and the idea of getting another Martinelli/Jota/Maddison into that midfield at some point is appealing. (As an aside, I've gone for boring Mings over Cash. Sounds like Cash might be a rotation risk with Villa likely to play three centre backs and Moreno).

I've asked before and I am still somewhat undecided. Any thoughts and reasons much appreciated:

    A. TAA, play Botman every week (Baldock first sub)
    B. Martinelli, rotate Botman and another 4.5
    C. Watkins, rotate Botman and another 4.5

Cash, Henry, Udogie or Colwill (to rotate with Botman)?

    Pickford or Leno?

    Gabriel or Saliba?

      C. Think Watkins will be lethal this season in an improved Villa.

Cant justify Trent price tag in a leaky defence, and Martinelli ia s minutes risk for me.

      Colwill out of those.

      Pickford
      Gabriel

Tough between B and C, Arsenal early fixtures so good and Martinelli probably does start all of these. He's likely to come off for Trossard around 70', but will still get points.

Watkins the main man at Villa who I reckon will have a good season under Emery. He's nailed as can be so depends if that's a factor for you.

Out of the 4.5s, I'd start with Colwill but keep a close eye on Udogie. Poch more likely to keep clean sheets than Ange, but Udogie has the greater attacking threat.

      March and Jackson for me.

I do like those picks, had March in a few drafts. I'll probably end up moving to Jackson from GW3.

Martinelli is on 14%, so barely a differential.

Jota and Foden are my risky picks. Had them in and out like the hokey cokey, but I want them and going with my gut instinct.

I think I need to stick with my instinct here too and go with Jota, can always move to a more reliable option like Eze later.

Doesn't matter. I remember having him after injury when he did nothing and his price dropped from 7.6 to 7.2 or something like that.

Hey fellas, first post here. I'm split between these two options at the moment and need some advice.

    A) Stones / Fernandes / Archer in a 4-5-1
    B) Baldock / Mbeumo / Watkins in a 3-5-2

    A) Bruno
    B) Martinelli
    C) Odegaard
    D) Jota

Pretty settled on this - thoughts?

    Pickford (Turner)
Estupinan- Gabriel - Dias (Chilwell Colwill)
Salah - Saka - Maddison - Eze (Nakamba)
    Haaland - Jackson - Pedro

Likely plan to roll FT and post Bournmouth use Salah as makeweight for KDB or Kane

Lots spent on defence, I think you could save some there and upgrade Jackson or Eze?

Agreed most weeks it has more on the bench than I’d typically like but I have scoped out the next few weeks - for instance GW2 has Eze and Colwill on the bench.

Hoping this gives me flexibility and less need to derail transfer plans if I pick up an injury

Deciding finally to not go with Trent and replace with Chilwell gave me more money than I knew what to do with given I’m not going with Salah either! Have landed - I think finally and happily - on this fairly template but slightly benching headache team to give me some options for first few weeks

    Onana (Areola/ TBC)
    Chilwell Gabriel Estu (Henry Beyer)
    Mitoma Rashford Sake Ode Eze
    Haaland Watkins (Wissa)

Jota, Rashford, Bruno F, Martinelli/ Andreas
    Haaland, Pedro, Watkins
