I've seen many predicted lineups for arsenal that have Gabriel starting. Can anyone give me a sense of whether this is likely or not?

I would love to believe those, but here's a tasty little excerpt from the first website that popped up during my search for this week's predicted lineup:

"CB: Gabriel - Much like Saliba, Gabriel's place in this team is secure and this is one of the most settled centre-back partnerships in the Premier League."

Although I must say, I've looked at 5 predictions in addition to that first one and every single one shows a lineup of Zinchenko + Gabs.

What I posted on the last page to the same question..

All depends how fit Zinchenko is, and if Arteta wants to carry on with Partey as the inverted right back.

If Zinch is fit and starts, Gabriel is 99% likely to start.

If not, it's probably more likely Kiwior starts and Gabriel is on the bench again (As in the FFS predicted lineup). Probably 25% chance Gabriel starts if Partey is the inverted RB.

best DFs for 4.5 or less?

considering Pinnock (would get Rico Henry, but is at 4.6 currently, and have 4.5; Botman and Newcastle have tough fixtures for next few weeks; looking in part to have general flexibility with team

So many options depends on fixture rotation with your other defenders. Newcastle, Chelsea, Tottenham, villa, Brentford all have quality 4.5s

I have 2ft’s and I’m struggling to decide, is Chilwell or Jackson more important

    Pickford
    Gabriel-Estu-Udogie

    Pedro-Haaland

    Subs: turner, baldock, kabore, Usalu

I'd place Osula as the first sub here, btw. Much less likely to get negative points in GW3

To answer the question: Chilwell, imo. I think you're well-placed for something like this for free:

      GW3: Rash + Gabriel > Foden + Chilwell
      GW4: Pedro to Wissa

      1. Ze_Austin

Pedro gets one more shot due to Enciso's injury and Wissa's relatively tough game, then he's gone

Is he playing the way you expected when you got him for GW1?

Not referring to the returns, but how he's actually playing: stats & eye test

The Rash I considered untouchable in my squad in preseason is different from the Rash I've seen on the pitch so far, mostly due to being isolated up top. Wouldn't blame him for that though. I mistakenly thought the Sancho false 9 experiment from preseason would continue

Foden for the next 5, however, is pretty hard to resist now that KDB is injured (wasn't injured until GW1 had started, so we couldn't have known) and Foden's suddenly the chief creator

This is why I made the move of Rashford + Richarlison to Foden + Mbeumo. My other mids (especially Salah) have been playing well, even if they've not returned as many points as I'd have liked.

Yeah. Some rather unfortunate timing there for FPL, especially considering the fixtures that other good (and mostly cheaper) attackers have

It’s tricky for sure but it also could backfire if rash and Bruno go off and I have neither

For this to backfire, Foden has to do badly. It's possible, yeah, especially if Foden's benched. Rashford definitely starts, so he'll always have that advantage

Best of luck there, Wally. Just sharing the thoughts behind my choice

      Chilwell for clean sheets.

Unlikely that Chelsea hits the goal more than twice. Apart from two friendlies they had only two games since October in which they have scored three times.

Attacking returns might change this season thanks to Poch but with so many injuries, I would wait and see who is the man. It might be Sterling or Brennan if he joins.

This is the most frustrating game week.
    2FT available
    A) Could do nothing
    B) Could just swap Pickford to Sanchez
    C) Could swap Rashford and Pedro to Mbeumo and Alvarez/Jackson

All I know is whatever I end up doing, it’s going to be the wrong move

    1. The Ilfordian

      D this is correct.

Can’t see your team but sounds like a familiar dilemma and if Jackson scores heavily tonight, there’s going to be a lot of mudded FPLers.

However, Jackson is somewhat unknown and does not seem worth losing Rashford for as he’s about to face Forest. I’d been about to lose Pedro but he’s now likely to start and seems as good a bet as Mbeumo v Palace

I’ve been brought around to doing a small change. Pickford sounds like a good transfer although I personally would go Johnstone/ Flekken. I’m also looking at Baldock to Gusto/Beyer/Kabore or Osula to Semenya (fwiw)

We've got Wissa, Diaby, Mitoma, March, Alvarez, Eze, JWP, Awoniyi, MGW, Solanke (watch Semenyo) and Antonio... Off the top of my head

I think the "best" will change every few GWs

Also, best form? Best fixtures? Best combination of form and fixtures? Most nailed? Most routes to points?

I'm currently on Mitoma - Mbeumo - Wissa, but Mitoma's probably gone for Maddison by GW4 anyway, and I'll go back by GW10, maybe via Mbeumo. Playing the fixtures until things get more obvious

"I missed the stupid hair pull at Chelsea versus Tottenham which was pathetic from my point of view," [Mike] Dean told Simon Jordan's Up Front podcast.

"It's one of them where if I had my time again, what would I do? I'd send Anthony [Taylor] to the screen. I think I knew if I did send him to the screen…he's cautioned both managers, he's had a hell of a game, it's been such a tough game end to end.

"I said to Anthony afterwards: 'I just didn't want to send you to the screen after what has gone on in the game'.

"I didn't want to send him up because he is a mate as well as a referee and I think I didn't want to send him up because I didn't want any more grief than he already had."

Cannot get over how unbelievably ridiculous this is. He knowingly didn't give the right call in a match because he didn't want to upset his mate. What is the point in having this technology or any of these rules if stuff like this is being done?

Don't think so - purely because I am not convinced Jackson outscores both of them by 5 points to make it worth your while this week. Pedro looks a good chance of big minutes with Enciso out and rotation in that Brighton attacking third. Watkins midweek hat-trick has to give him some confidence. Has returned in both games and has a good matchup this week.

Don't see it being worth the hit. Wait a week - Pedro looks a much better sell next week, for example.

Not for me at all. Pedro should have more minutes now with Enciso injured (although I thought he may come back in anyway) and these next fixtures should suit Watkins (and Villa in general) from an attacking point of view. All we've seen so far from Jackson is some decent play with poor finishing, not convinced a side that played 30 mins v 10 men and mustered one late shot on target are going to hammer Luton (who were hammered in their first game, but against one of the best attacking sides around right now)

    Start Gabriel? Team is;

    Pickford
    Chilwell, Estupiñan, Udogie
    Jota, Saka, Mbeumo, Fernandes, Rashford
    Haaland(C), Watkins

    Bench: Turner, Gabriel, Botman, Mubama

Trying to target the fixtures while slowly replacing the fallen trinity of Shaw/Gabriel/Stones. So: Which Spurs/City combo do you prefer going forward:
    A) Udogie and Foden?
    B) Dias and Maddison?
Already have Haaland, ofc. Teams is in otherwise pretty good shape, and Pedro and Pickford can both stay for now.

Adding Pedro, Pickford and the mid you're selling for Foden/Maddison to your fallen trinity, I count 6 first-team changes you're considering making

That's actually close enough to an early WC for me. I mean, when people talk about delaying the wildcard, this kind of situation is what it's saved for

Thanks. Stones is already gone for Chilwell on the first of 2FT, so it is Gabriel and Shaw the headache now. And I have some depth in my squad. But would you still actually WC this lot? Trying to avoid last seasons GW3WC 😉
        Pickford/Turner
        Estu/Chilwell/Henry/Gabriel/Shaw
        Saka/Rash/Mitoma/Eze/Mbuemo
        Haaland/ Watkins/Pedro

Oh, this is a 15-man squad. Okay, it's a lot easier to absorb injuries here

Udogie and Foden for me, then. Good team! 🙂

Thanks again, much appreciated, yeah, it is a 15 man squad with fewer benching headaches than I thought… Will probably do just the defensive switch this week, and asess Mitoma vs Rash to lose for next week. Still like the idea of a Spurs/City combo done in two turns, hence my original question. Alternatively could just get Botman in now and prepare for the Newcastle swing…

Already took the -0,1 on Gabriel so taking the chance on him for this GW. 1 FT and 0,7 ITB.

Now need a decent backup on the bench.

    A) Beyer -> Udogie
    B) Beyer -> Gusto (got chilwell)

    Learning on A.

    Though also worried about Gabriel getting some odd minutes so;
    C) Start Gabriel
    D) Start Udogie

Morning chaps so having had a look at the predicted line ups on other sites not just this one my decision is to use an FT this week and do either of following:

    Rashford to Foden
    Gabriel to Akanji/Gvardiol

    Which is the best move?

I would much rather own Rashford and a City defender (this week), than Gabriel and Foden. Just my view. Rashford > Foden still on the cards for next week.

I’m leaning towards City defender m (Gab on bench atm and will be replaced by City defender)

It depends on the rest of the team and your style of play. If everything else is alright, then I would probably go with the first option and reinvest all that money in the next few weeks. Especially if you have three playing defenders for this GW.

Rest of team fine Mikel. Yes I have three playing central defs. Most ML rivals don’t have Foden or City def so this will be a differential move. Just depends what option will be more explosive. Arguably the most upside come with Foden with fixtures, money itb and form not to mention the huge ownership swing between him and Rash. Could be a huge tank boost.

Tierney will go to Real Sociedad on loan, and Balogun will join AS Monaco in a permanent deal. Both will get regular minutes and be starters, which is what they wanted. There were no concrete offers for KT by English clubs during the summer, just interest. There is also no news yet about a sell-on, buy-back, or first refusal clause for Flo, but surely Arsenal insisted on including one. We can assume that many clubs will be after him in a season or two if he keeps on scoring goals, and he will make more progress as a starter in Ligue 1 than as a 15-minute sub here. It made sense to let him go, and he can still come back someday.

Chelsea were interested in Balogun. Is it fair to assume Arsenal didn't want to sell him to a rival (I think they added a 10M "PL tax" on his head?
I wonder why Newcastle opted for Lewis Hall over tierney.

Yeah, I'm happy he's not going there, and the price for Boehly's Chelsea would be much higher anyway.

Newcastle rather went for Hall because he's a boyhood fan, 7 years younger, less injury-prone, and has the potential to make a mockery out of his price tag and become one of the best in his position. In a few years, he will be on one side and Livramento on the other. They're both smart signings with a long-term future at the club.

I’ve been thinking (maybe overthinking) that the reason Saka didn’t take the penalty against Palace was because of who the goalkeeper was. Maybe Saka was a little bit spooked at coming up against Johnstone. Saka will have practiced penalties against him at England camps and may have thought that Johnstone had got him sussed.

There are so many worse conspiracies than that - I actually think it may have played a part in it.

Good thing with Saka is that he's so involved in regular play goals that he is still worth 8.5. If nailed on pens, he really should be priced closer to 10.0.

Johnstone's shocked face and pleading glance at his bench (does anybody know which side Odegaard favours, please?) when he saw Saka hand it over to Odegaard was so funny

I didn't even realize they were national teammates. Johnstone's reaction makes sense now

Yeah, I like that theory that the last-second change was to befuddle the goalkeeper. It worked. Want to see more of this.

Odegaard said he simply asked Saka if he could take it as he scored all of his penalties in preseason and Saka gave it to him. I can see Saka maybe taking another again in a less pressurised situation than 0-0 away at Palace in a tight game, but I'd say Odegaard is likelier to take most now

In this sea of wildcard teams flying around I've noticed a distinct lack of some of the players I most want to get in my team. If I were wildcarding I'd definitely be bringing in isak, Alvarez, trippier. And I would want to keep eze, Bowen and TAA. With the exception of a few Alvarez's I don't see any of these guys in wildcard teams.

I'd be wary of plumping on Isak this close to CL games kicking off. We know him and Wilson will rotate at times already (although it seems Isak starting and Wilson subbed on is preferred) but when you have midweek games coming on I'd be quite unsure of how much rotation we'll see. Maybe there'll be a pattern of something like Isak: PL, Wilson: CL but I wouldn't be too sure. Even Trippier may begin to get rests given Livramento was signed, he is nearly 33 after all and does a lot of work in every game

I need to shift Shaw. 1FT.

    A) Shaw -> Akanji / Walker (already own Gvardiol)
    B) Shaw -> Botman (getting ready for NEW fixture swing)
    C) Shaw -> Chilwell

Am I insane to not do (C)?
It’s just so… boring. Tempted to chase the thrill of a double Man C defence as differential, and hide whenever Chelsea are playing.

Planning to bring in Sterling next week, depending on how he looks tonight. FWIW.

Morning guys, anything you’d change on this WC? 2m in the bank, could swap Pedro for someone cheaper & bank some extra?

    Ederson
    Estup - Chilwell - Saliba
    Foden - Saka - Diaz - Diaby - Mbeumo
    Haaland - Jackson

Areola - Joao Pedro - Henry - Botman
