I once had 10 of 11 on the Bus Team. 4 of 4 likely captains.

    Dubravka
    Porro Konsa Taylor
    Saka Foden Bowen Palmer Richarlison
    Watkins Alvarez

Trippier Archer Branthwaite - 0 FT, 11.9M ITB

Is it worth taking any hits? I am thinking Taylor > TAA for -4. I would then have enough ITB to bring Haaland in for Alvarez for BUR.

I’d probably prioritise getting Haaland for alvarez this week for the -4 if he is actually back. Then reevaluate next week re TAA

If NU lays an egg in the FA Cup, they have an easy run to end the season.

No champions, no domestic cup, no pressure for a EPL run.

Whoever physically evaluates their signings is no good. They seem to collect some brittle boys.

Bowen feels like a banker for 7-9 points, same as Saka ... Feel it's better to gamble given that selecting a blanker is unlikely to drop more than 5 points

Palmer will be my C or VC, so that I have that early game safety net

No Watkins for Toney... Come on, when will Watkins get the respect he deserves?

Otherwise, my team looks a lot like the picks this week except in defense - but who cares since they're getting no more than 4 points between them anyway...

I think that it's fair enough for them opt for Toney since Brentford are at home and he should be very keen to impress, but I think that Watkins should be considered to be close to being picked rather than what was stated.

Anyone else not convinced by any of Salah/Son replacements?

Bowen - the safe boring pick. West Ham have been doing well but I don't think they're actually that good and it remains to be seen how they cope without Kudus. Paqueta's availability is key here.

Foden - looks great at the moment but concerns about his position/minutes when Haaland and De Bruyne are back.

De Bruyne - too early to go there. Pep will be careful with him.

Odegaard - good player but Arsenal's form doesn't merit doubling up on their attack.

Rashford/Garnacho - interesting differentials but I'm not ready to trust United.

Bailey - I like him a lot but so injury prone.

I already own Saka, Richarlison and Palmer. Would happily buy any of them if I didn't.

    Is there anyone else?

I share a lot of your doubts actually. Only player I own from your list is Foden & he's in the short-term punt category for me. Looking at Groß & Neto as my Salah/Son replacements.

Hinshelwood has been excellent at RB & Estupiñan back so Groß unlikely to play FB/WB. In the absence of Mitoma & co he looks like their key attacking mid now. Next 5 fixtures are delightful

Yeah, I’m not even sure I’m going to bother replacing Salah.

My 5th mid is Soucek, and next week he has Sheffield United, so I don’t mind playing him in that one. Which then leaves GW22 (Soucek has Bournemouth) and after that we are into February.

I own Salah, Saka, Bowen, Gordon, Palmer.

I'm likely to hold Salah on the bench and replace him nearer to the start of GW22 which is over 3 weeks away. By then we'd know more about blank/double gameweeks in the near future, or any injuries picked up from the cup games and one PL matchweek in between. KDB and Maddison should also be closer to fitness or available and could be a better Salah replacement then those available for this gameweek.

      1. HashAttack
        • 9 Years
        2 years, 3 months ago

I've got Saka, Bowen, Palmer, Foden and Salah. The default replacement for Salah is probably Richarlison or Jota, but that would mean benching Solanke, which could be a bad idea

May just go early on Maddison / KDB, before Salah's next price drop

Finally got around to looking at Toney and... The fixtures are absolutely godawful lol. After this week against NFO, they have:
tot, MCY, wol, LIV, whu, CHE, ars

      Toney is fixture proof.

The only issue is that he doesn’t have Rico Henry or MBuemo to provide the bullets. If those two were available then fixtures are irrelevant.

After Haaland Toney is by far and away the best striker in the premier league.

You're talking about him like he's the second coming of Pele... Saw a poll today from FPL Harry about him being more valuable than Osimhen. You have to be joking.

He was a championship striker 3 years ago. He's a decent finisher, and can hold up the ball quite well and link play but he's not a huge difference maker. He's more in the mould of Watkins.

Camzy, do you think you fall for the exotic lure of players from foreign leagues? Toney is a proven premier league goal scorer now (doesn't matter where he was 3 years ago), and has elite level mentality. I remember you telling everyone on here that they had no idea how good Darwin was, not as good as Toney it would seem.

If I remember right, picking Toney only to flat-track-bully his way through easy fixture runs was never a particularly rewarding strategy. Tends to perform just as well against some of the bigger sides. E.g. (all small samples, but...) 1G in 4 v EVE/SOU/LEi, 2 in 2 v MCI, 3 in 4 v BHA/NEW).

But with all the lack of match practice & transfer rumours I'm not really considering him just yet

    5. Arteta

After Brentford's promotion, Toney has scored against 18 of the 22 Premier League clubs he has faced so far (https://www.transfermarkt.com/ivan-toney/bilanz/spieler/251664/plus/0?wettbewerb=GB1). Surprisingly, only Watford and Crystal Palace have been able to prevent him from scoring or assisting any goals.

With Haaland back in full training it lessens the impact of Foden as Alvarez will play in the hold and Foden out wide.

Maybe but Foden could keep the number 10 spot with Bernardo right, Doku/Grealish left, and Alvarez dropping out of the team.

Not based on Pep comments. While Foden looks flashy in that role, Pep isn't impressed with him, Alvarez is giving the team more balance. Nunes is also a consideration, as well as Bilva, then you have Doku, Grealish on the wings, Bobb could get more minutes. Kovacic is there.

as long as Haaland continues to train and is in the squad in the FA cup, I'll take a -4 to get him in for Alvarez. Newcastle are awful defensively at the moment, and we know the kind of hauls Haaland can deliver. Wouldn't be as tempted if Salah was around, but there is a real lack of captaincy options.

It could go almost anywhere, as both teams have free midweek the entire season. Talk is that it maybe will slot in in 25 due to other fixtures could slot in there, but it's only speculation. One factor that can play a part is that FA likes to have the table as much equal as possible, in terms of games played. February is my guess.

Saka may have 27 shots over the last seven GWs, but his xG is a paltry 2.66, and nearly 1.00 of that xG is from the sitter he slotted in vs Fulham. Watch the games and you'll see that the opposition has been setting two defenders against Saka to neutralize his goal scoring threat. He's been reduced to providing assists, or trying to anyway with Arsenal lacking a clinical finisher.

Saka is giving Grealish-like returns. At 9.0m, that's not good enough.

(Go back to GW9 versus CHE and his xG is absolutely abysmal.)

Yeah, despite the consistent returns I think he will be making way when Salah and Son return.

His problem is that he is doubled (correct phrase?) and Jesus isn't clinical finisher. Defending against him is still difficult and should Arsenal buy Toney this situation would change radically. Impossible to have two men against both Saka and Toney without giving too much space for Martinelli etc.

Saka is in danger of becoming an extremely predictable winger. Watched Arsenal a few times recently and you know what he's going to do every time.

Needs to be able to mix it up a bit if he's going to become genuinely world class.

Yes, building TV early in the season is very risky business. But somehow I am bit like the famous Lateriser. My OR usually rises late. Blanks and doubles and also chip strategy come into play during 2nd half. Easy to pass those who have used theirs. I also at least try to take less hits when there is less time to gain from them.

It's the SV, not TV that's important - Did my WC last week with a SV just under 105m, I think that extra money tends to mean extra points

Yes, I agree. I have sold Salah and Son now and my TV (106.6) is about 2.5 millions more than SV. However, players like Palmer (4.9 PP) could be "season keepers".

      Definitely considering KDB
It means I would have to sell Avarez, and would exclude getting Haaland (but I haven't had him since gw8 anyway)
On the other hand, it gives me the extra money to upgrade Gusto to Trippier and allows an easy route back to Salah & Son

Can't see anyone forking out for him in January. Arsenal couldn't afford to outright buy Raya in the summer, Spurs spent a lot of money so it's probably just Chelsea? They have to be careful too with new rules brought in to curb long contract lengths recently
